"You wanted to talk to me Robert? What did you need, were starting to load the equipment and I want to make sure those idiots bolt them down this time."
Eddy was silent as he stood there with his arms crossed, the sudden meeting with Robert so close to shipping off was a bit weird honestly, and it was also at the same time not the time for them to be talking as he needed to ensure nothing went wrong with the loading of their equipment. However Eddy could tell Robert had something really important to say, he could see the lines on his forehead squinting up which usually meant they had something they needed to get off their chest and or something the other person wasn't going to like hearing.
"Yes I did, I know the timing is a bit close to shoving off but its important. I know you have set your mind on going to the island, but I am here one last time to try and persuade you not to go. I understand your reasons why you want to go, why you feel the need to go. But Eddy try to understand that risking your life isn't worth it, and that is what you will doing if you go to this island. We can plan, we can come up with ideas and we can mark a map until were sure nothing will go wrong... but things will go wrong Eddy and when they do people are going to die. You have a son who loves you, are you really so set on possibly making him grow up without a mother and even a father?"
Eddy tightened his hands that were crossed on each shoulder, this was really the last thing he needed right now, someone else telling him that he was making a bad choice. Sure it was okay for his father to run off and die on some heroic venture and leave him and his mother here with the pain but it was a sin for him to try and make a better life for his own kid. His whole life he lived in a state of perpetual safety, he made all the right choice, did what was best for himself and by his family and what did he get out of it? He was broke, his son was going to starve and his mother was on her last legs and would soon need him to take care of her. Everything... it all hinged on him and this was the one opportunity to make things right and everyone criticized him for it.
"This is my life Robert and I will do with it as I please. You speak as if I am a helpless little child going to a place where I will get lost and need to be rescued. I am not a child and I can make my own decisions, my father he made his decisions and because of it we all suffered. When he died he left us nothing, there was no money, barely anything to live on, I even had to give up my final years of college because mother is sick and had been for years, to help support her. This is the one time where I can change things, the money can change things for all of us. I made my choice and I will be better then my father was Robert I was go off on some ridiculous hero quest and leave everyone I care about to suffer."
Eddy spoke harshly to Robert, he loved his father but because he went off and tried to be a hero they were off left to suffer for it and he couldn't forgive him for that. He couldn't just simply keep going forward and then getting thrown ten steps back, he needed to do what his dad couldn't do in the end and support the ones he loved. An Robert seemed to be one of the people who was trying to push him back those ten steps and it made him angry.
"There are a lot of things I don't understand Eddy, and many more things I wish I didn't understand, but there is one thing I can say without doubt in my mind and that is you shouldn't be so quick to think your father left you for some heroic conquest. There are things you don't understand Eddy, things that in time you will come to see, I am not treating you like a child I am trying to save your life. If you understand this or not, money is useless if your not alive to receive it, life is hard and harder sometimes for others. But risking everything for a quick dollar is a fools gamble.
"An what do you know about my father Robert?!? You speak as if you knew him, as if you know something that I was not allowed to know! You wouldn't understand, you have your father and you have money and a damn lot of it! You don't even know what its like to grow up without food, water, or a home and nothing about losing your father! Yet you speak to me like you know not only what it feels like but if you know my father himself and I will not stand for that! Do you hear me!?"
Eddy was seething at the teeth but the sudden pinch in his chest widened his eye's as he saw a tranquilizer dart sticking out of his chest. Looking back up his eye's became a bit hazy and he saw doubles of Robert with a pistol in his hand, Eddy fell to his knee's heavily as his breathing became a bit labored. He heard the footsteps as they seemed to echo in his ears, feeling a twinge in his chest he could feel the needle leave his skin as Robert stood above him.
"I didn't know your father Eddy that is true, but I do know how he died and he was a hero, and he didn't do it because of some some kind heroic honor or for some adventure but he did it was his family. I can understand your anger towards him, but your wrong about him and your wrong about me. Iv known the pain of loss and even now I am still suffering it, and soon beyond this island and this assignment I will suffer the loss of pain again and this time I don't know if I will be able to bare it. But I do know that I wont you let you suffer the same end as your father did, not while I can breath. You may not see it but I am trying to look out for you and your son, you may hate me after this is said and done but in time I hope you see I am doing this because I don't want to see you hurt or worse. Sleep Eddy and when you wake up it will be done."
Eddy felt his head spinning as the trailer came back into view, his entire world seemed to be moving all around his eye's as he heard the loud growl of the animal outside. His heart pounded in his chest hard as he felt the warmth that seethed down his pants as the large head looked above the trailer, the horror of it all was clutching at his chest like sharpened claws ripping away at his chest. He looked at Maddie as there was terror in her eye's too, he wanted to try and go and help but his body was frozen, he looked to his right seeing the smashed windshield nearby and then to Maddie. The animal above them was still distracted and it would give him the time to away while it was concentrated on Maddie and Maxwell. Eddy felt a tear roll down his cheek as he made his decision, he could not die here even if it meant leaving Maddie to her fate with Maxwell. Climbing up he sneaked out the broken windshield not looking back, letting himself fall to the ground he quickly went around the RV while the animal trying to release metal from its gaping mouth and quickly made his way to the car where Robert was.
Robert looked on in horror as the Rex attacked the RV he barely noticed EJ come up beside him as the beast of a predator dipped its head back into the wreck of the RV and hit what it was looking for. The Rex's head popped back out as he saw for the briefest of moments the lower half of a person and the blood dripping down its jaw. His heart sank as he could not tell who it had been that the Rex had caught, all he knew was that he had to do something but what could he do? He had no guns and nothing that could stop that monstrosity from having its way.
"We gotta go Robert, come on we gotta get out of here!"
Robert heard the voice as his head shot left to see Eddy beside him, blood was drizzling from a shallow wound in his head, Robert stood up as he released JC who looked terrified of the beast in front of him. Even he could see that this dinosaur was dangerous and intended to kill them all, quickly clinging to his father he was already shaking as EJ wasted no time getting him into the back of the car.
"Robert get in there is nothing we can do, Maddie is dead! We have to save ourselves!"
Robert looked at EJ as he then looked at the trailer, he heard a loud bang echo off its metal interior as the Rex launched its head back, for a moment Robert saw its eye was missing from its skull, ripped away by his gun no doubt, someone was still alive in that trailer and he couldn't leave them there. Robert looked back at the car and then back to the trailer, he couldn't leave them he just can't if he left they it meant certain death and that something he couldn't live with. Robert felt the hand on his shoulder as it tried to guide him to the car he but he raised his own hands and pushed EJ away from him defiantly.
"No I won't I am not leaving, I will not leave who is ever left inside that trailer to die a horrible death... we need to help them EJ, somehow someway."
"I can't Robert, I can't, my son comes first and if its between him and Maddie or Maxwell or even you I will pick him every time."
Robert watched helplessly as EJ got into the driver side seat and quickly started the energy powered vehicle. Before he could even try to convince EJ to stay the car back away fast and headed for the jungle, Robert turned his head back as the Rex was now enraged having been hurt and viciously attacked the trailer even more, intent on securing this area once and for all. When Robert heard the chipper voice he thought he was imagining things, when a sack seemed to fly down to his feet out of nowhere he scanned the area quickly but spotted no one. Reaching down he grabbed the pack and saw what it contained, pulling out the flare gun he quickly proceeded to load in one of the two shots, this just might be enough to save whoever was left inside that trailer if he could play his cards right. Robert grabbed the extra larger flared and shoved them in his pocket and dropped the sack as he ran from the spot towards the Rex, he ran to the side where its good eye was and yelled as loud as he could waving his arms:
"HEY YOU!!!! OVER HERE!!!!"
The Rex was too enraged to notice him as it crushed the trailer with his foot, Robert raised the flare gun and took aim, pulling the trigger the flare shot out like a firework and smacked the Rex right in the side of the head. The Rex clearly feeling the impact turned to face Robert as he could feel his heart beating right out of his chest.
"COME ON YOUR BIG BITCH! COME GET ME!"
Robert loaded the second and last shot into the flare gun as the Rex gave off a roar that chilled him to the very bone and turned to him in all its terrifying glory. He could feel the ground shake beneath his feet as it walked towards him, intent on killing him in one blow. Robert aimed the loaded flare gun, if he missed it was over and they were both dead. He would not run, he had to save Maddie, he knew she had to be the one who was alive and he wouldn't let her face this alone, even if it meant they would both die he had to try. Closing one of his eye's Robert felt the wind on his ear, holding his breath he aimed in the direction of the wind pulling the trigger.
The second flare went active from the pipe of the gun and closed the distance striking the Rex right in its good eye. The Rex gave off a shrill scream its sight now temporarily blinded from the bright flare. Its lunged back its tiny arms trying and flailing towards its face but to no avail it turned from him and stumbled across the field in a rage as it smacked a tree trying to move its head against the thick bark, to try and soothe the mysterious burn on it. Robert dropped the flare gun and ran the rest of the short distance to the trailer, he climbed it rather shakily as he got on top of it where the huge hole currently was.
"Maddie! I know your there, it has to be you, give me the tranquilizer gun, quickly before it can see again!"
Robert leaned into the darkened RV and grabbed the tranquilizer gun from a really shook up Maddie, looking down for the briefest of moments he saw Maxwell, or at least what was left of her. Robert couldn't help but feel a slight pity in his stomach for her but there was no time for tears now. Lifting himself back up he located the Rex as he loaded the dart into the chamber and took aim. He had to strike it in the neck otherwise the tranq would not knock it out fast enough to save them. Robert got down on one knee and raised the rifle to his eye's and held her steady in his arms, he had one shot to get this right, the Rex was flailing around knocking down near by weaker tree's.
Holding his breath one last time Robert aimed in the direction of the Rex trying his best to account for the wind strength and pulled the trigger, the rifle bucked in his hands as the dart left the chamber and then the tube and sailed across the clearing and struck the Rex right in the side of the neck. The dinosaur gave of a fierce roar as it no doubt felt the prick in its neck. It reared back on its legs and turned to the trailer roaring loudly and angrily and it charged. Robert tried to move but it was too close, the entire trailer rocked hard as the Rex ran into it, he was launched backwards smacking the metal sickly before rolling off the side smashing into the softer dirt below. Robert crumbled on the ground as he felt a sick pain in his shoulder, the impact had popped his joint out of place, he screamed in pain as he tried to get up but slammed the dirt as his arm gave away. The Rex growled as it came around the trailer right towards Robert he quickly back away with whatever strength he could muster pushing his legs, but there was no running now. It was over he failed, Robert prepared for the inevitable death that was coming but at the last moment when the Rex meant to close the distance it suddenly stopped as its body fell forward and it smacked the ground chin fist. It twitched a couple times but other then that its movements became still as the tranq took its hold pulling it into an unconscious stupor. Robert let himself fall backwards as he smacked the ground with his back letting his breath escape his mouth and nose for the first time in the last many seconds.
