@Mahz

This is a really low-tier importance thing to talk about, but it popped into my head just now and I wanted to ask before i forget:

how hard would it be to add in extra, rename-able tabs? I mean, for example, if I wanted a lore page because i have a fuckton of writing on a world, would it be tough to add in the ability to add a new tab to the RP and name it "Lore Database" or something? That would make RPguild the top tier rp place on the internet for me (not that it isnt already)

@Mercenary Lord
It is much harder than one would hope for. Its been brought up quite a few times in the past but not been worked much on because of the difficulty.

What about just adding a fourth, static tab? A sort of "miscellaneous" tab, so to speak

that'd still require reworking the subscriptions page, which is already rather cramped. Pesky, but true.

Many would've loved to have a "lore" tab or somesuch, but for now its not coming.

For now, I suggest using the 0th post in ooc. If you have more than a post's worth of lore, toss in a few links to the posts you make. Might not be optimal, but it works.

Anyway we can roll back and get rid of the hidden posts that GM's can see? I go back to reread for details or double check something in an RP and I see them and it is ugly... We had the post deleted for a reason, why would we want to see it now? Can we please get rid of it?

@Lady Amalthea Part of why the DM can see the hidden posts is because they can hide/show the 0th post. At least, that is my assumption. If @Mahz decides to implement this, could he warn us ahead of time so we can unhide our 0th posts?

@JBRam2002 Ahh, that makes a bit of sense. (Still ugly lol) - though if we can hide and unhide the 0th post, wonder if we will soon be able to just hide unhide posts over all on our own rps we gm.

we believe its just something he hasn't patched up yet. One of the (unfortunately) numerous bugs still running around, @JBRam2002. It wasn't his plan to have GMs see all hidden posts in their threads.

EDIT:

@Mahz

We have a suggestion for the "view all roleplays" system...

Right now, when you select tags, you can choose n tags and either set the system to one of two states:
- Roleplay must have at least one of the n selected tags.
- Roleplay must have all of the n selected tags.

Considering how the system searches all RPs, that will leave people with either too few RPs seen, or too many.

What we propose is the following:
Rather than have the selection thing at the bottom of it for All/some of the above, we suggest giving each tag three states rather than the current two.

State A: Gray. Can be present. (default)
State B: Blue. Must be present.
State C: Red. Not to be present.

With such a system, the filtering will be much easier to go through to find roleplays. (clicking on a tag once turns it blue, clicking again turns it red, and the third click takes it back to gray)

Also, another suggestion, fairly closely related. Bring in a system just like this one, only for interest checks. We believe it is at least as often that people want to browse interest checks as it is that they want to search for launched RPs.

Third and final suggestion:
Add two elements to the filtering here:
Time: Thread has been posted in within the last [insert appropriate time increment units]
(for RPs) Ability to filter existing RPs based on whether they are open.

Do you (or anyone else) like any/all of these ideas and/or have comments about them (or suggestions for improvements)?

@Ellri Not a bad idea. I like the idea of clicking a button to cycle it through the 4 states (Unselected | Maybe | Must | Not).

I agree that Interest Checks should have the same exact system. I wanted to field test the RP version first to get feedback.

I definitely need to add a sort for join-status. Maybe an "Only show open roleplays" checkbox would be a start.

Thanks for the feedback.

Probably makes sense to get the Interest Checks version online first.

we probably wouldn't have thought of at least part of that idea without the dry test in the form of the existing RP one.

That sounds like a good way to solve it too (adding "maybe" as well as having "unselected")

I don't know if it would be a viable option but is it possible to get a new tag for Rps? One for mentoring that a Gm could add to their rp's to let Rpers know that they are willing to teach newer Rpers the ropes, or established Rpers on honing their skills. I'd love to have an entire section of the Rp for this type of RP (or more so this type of GM) where the Rps hosted there are not only what the general population thinks of as free, casual, or advanced, but where part of the over structure of the Rp has a geared learning experience in it. But hey, would be very happy just to see a tag for it. ^^

Wasn't there talk of a mentoring program a bit back, or was that the welcomer program that could be adjusted as mentoring?

The idea was bought up a couple weeks ago about a welcome committee of sorts and they can be ones who can be approached by new users. I can't remember the exact details but it was only recently discussed.

There was a bit of debate as to whether such a committee were to be recognized as such via "tutor" under their avatar (or some similar title), similar to that of a mod, and there was also the debate as to how one would be selected to be a part of this group. I honestly think that in such cases, it may simply be best to let the community decide for themselves, and simply have a group of volunteers go out and attempt to aid new members, so long as the new member feels the need for tutorship.

I believe that was really as far as we had gotten in that conversation before the topic was shifted to something else. A lot of the points that were put forth were debated by valid counterarguments, so no exact decisions were made.
