Your assignment just arrived. Castle Rock Complex a.k.a the Minerva Archive. An underfunded Cold-War era research institute and archive that has seen better days. Supposedly, the Castle is on it's last leg and the Federal Government is pulling the plug. Looks like you've got a lot of boring, monotonous work ahead of you cataloging and organizing half a century worth of occult BS. Have fun!

OOC: This is a non-traditional role play in that you may create any number of characters in order to advance the setting canon. What do I mean by canon? These are assumptions about the world the characters occupy. Namely, occult science, conspiracy, and the supernatural all exist. While you may participate in the IC with straightforward narrative posts, players are encouraged to try alternate methods of role playing. Creating Archive Entries, sending e-mail or snail mail, writing up Operation Reports are just some of the things that are OK to submit in the IC tab. {{this section changed from the Advanced Interest Check Thread}}.

As World War II came to a close and an Allied Victory was assured, a division of the Nazi Special Research Division was tasked with investigating the occult, supernatural and even extra-terrestrial. The Office of Strategic Services dismissed reports of Nazi activity regarding fringe-science and 'mythological studies', but was soon forced to reassess the threats posed by the Occult Science Division.

While speculation varied, and was undoubtedly confounded by conflicting Soviet reports, the Allies took no chances with victory so close at hand. On May 8th, 1944 these suspicions were confirmed when a Soviet double-agent reported the death of Adolph Hitler1 on May 9th. Just as word of the death of the Fuhrer was received, an Allied Commando Unit2 successfully infiltrated a Nazi Submarine pen at Heligoland. Documents and artifacts captured in the operation would provide the foundation for what would eventually become the M I N E R V A A R C H I V E.

Footnotes:
1 It is unclear whether this is Clone 'A' or 'D'.
2 No records exist of this operation.

@Polybius
Are you telling me I could make an Occult Steve Irwin to write reports about?

To be clear, you need not even invent a character, although it might limit some RP opportunities. You could simply insert research files into the archive for other players to use to their own ends. I don't know if I've clearly presented the idea I have for this world-it's sort of SCP-Foundation but less disturbing and cruel. I would say it's like Warehouse 13 (but I've only seen like 2 episodes of that show). There is a bit of Hellboy thrown in, some X-Files, but the overall tone is not nearly as dark.

Name: Aoife Quinn
Age:33
Requested Assignment: Rogue research specialist
Note 1: I knew my degree in History and the martial arts training would be a winning combo.
Note 2: I'm liable to get distracted if there will be any hot librarians.
Note 3: If there is anything on Hollow Earth in the archive, I'll be all over it!

@Polybius I'm interested, but is there a format for the entries and operation reports we can make in the Archive?

Yes I was thinking about that. Since the possibilities of what the archives actually contain are pretty open to interpretation at the start of the RP, I was going to let the players submit their own formats but with a formal archive heading. Something like this:

Noparse version:

EDIT: It need not be that complicated either. Maybe something simpler?
