Alternative history always seems to result in the dissection of the grandest of the world's empires.

But back on topic: the background for this RP seems very strange and unusually specific. Is the world as it is described in the wiki?

Beware of the wiki.

It's very, very incomplete. And a lot of its articles aren't even canon anymore. We have been running a lot of years, and through those years we have seen players make a lot of bullshit moves that make no sense, and that we somehow let pass. But a lot of it is being wiped off the official canon when we decide to move the RP here. There may be inconsistencies and contradictions in there too.

Basically, the wiki's alright if you want a very bare-bones idea of what may be happening in some places, but you shouldn't go there looking for an absolute answer on something. You're better off asking us here. But as said before, we'll be making some lore summaries for new potential players to read when we make the move.

As for our nations:
Aaron is China.
Vilageidiot is Ethiopia.
I am Germany/Prussia
Gorgenmast is Spain
TheEvanCat is Armenia.

There's a few other people around but those are the main player nations right now. And of course, we've had plenty of other players play other nations in the past, but we've lost a lot of people to a lot of reasons.

Things may seem very specific because again, we've been running for like.. three years, at least one or two of those nonstop. So there is already plenty of established lore that is considered canon, that we'd like to keep that way.

Also for the wiki...

Don't trust anything with the name Feokris attached to it, either. I had the derm, really really bad, and did lots of dumb stuff that's not canon anymore.

As Hugs said the Wiki is probably not THE best source since there's a lot of articles to update and fix. I'm still in the process of cataloging the posts of the second generation thread for referencing purposes. Beyond that, it'll be a sort-of picture of what's going on.

Per the unusually specific nature of the setting: it's because we're not starting over. Most of the surviving members of this RP put three years of writing into our nations and we're not eager to let it go and start over from day one. We're continuing a month after where we left off, which should start up in an era of Great Habbening. And because of that, many of the at-first strange specefic elements of the RP are being brought into here as the plot setting.

But the general gist is: alternate, longer First World War that killed everyone that would have been a major player in the Second World War and didn't end on a note that would lead to another within living memory.

Alright...

I hope that the in-jokes won't be too abundant. Half of the wiki is memes.

Which is fair enough, since I happily say "Fuck you" to myself for being that dumb in the first place.

Seriously though, I promise to not post derm stuff ever again, or shall I forever be banished from the RP.

Another reason why the wiki shouldn't be taken very seriously.

If you have specific questions, ask them here or wait for the lore summaries we're writing up. Whatever is in those summaries will be canon.

The wiki is mostly about stuff from early-mid 2012. By the end of that year, we had found our form, and by 2013 we were taking it pretty seriously.

So don't worry about in-jokes.

We will probably have to reintro characters, I suspect. Because the RP has been going on for so long, those of us who have been going with it already know the main characters pretty closely, but a new forum won't have that connection. So, A note to everyone coming from the MCF, Remember to describe your characters again when you first introduce them, and insert biographical information when you can get away with it to get people up to speed.

...which reminds me, what we do is largely character based, in that we handle nations by following the people who make the decisions within them. Some of us have even went further than that and follow characters who aren't involved in the politics at all, but rather travel across borders and experience their own stories. There isn't any "France orders ten thousand ships built." posts. This isn't to say you have to follow a lot of characters - we have had players who only followed one or two.

And so, the long march of freedom from MCF's chains of oppression to the promised land begins.

So... Since I really had no idea what state Britain was ever supposed to be in, what it's limits were or exactly how bad it was, and still don't really. (I don't even know what of it all is being kept canon)

Can I perma jump back to Japan? It's isolated, has plenty of potential for good story lines now that I know what I'm doing, and because of it's location, I'll need to check with Aaron before I do anything outside of Japan, which prevents me from doing anything stupid. All in all, it's a benefit for everyone.

On top of that, I've been learning the language and all about the culture for the last three years now, so I kind of have a pretty good grasp on it.

So... What do you say?

Too hot, too humid there. Terrible for the skin. Also, have you ever got an African sunburn? Sheesh, I don't want to die!

EDIT: I've been around, mostly just reading your posts ever since I said I had to leave. Internet sucks. *Shrugs*

That's the same reason you gave with your other jumps. "Can't think of anything." Why do you think that now, suddenly, you will be hit by a bunch of Japan-specific inspiration that you couldn't conjure before?

You need to learn to be happy where you are. Britain has a lot of potential.

As for cannon, just because we decanonize something doesn't mean you can't re-add it. It just can't contradict any canon changes we have made. There are a few things we are decanonizing because they don't make sense (mainly Florida being capable of independence, and some of the crazy that went on in the Americas in general). The reason we decanonized the rest is because we want people to be able to join nations without being burdened with a bunch of other peoples ideas, so we are stripping all the secondary nations down to the basic requirements they need to fit in with world history. That means that, though we would only really keep the anarchy as a requirement for a new person playing Britain, if you decide to take it up then you can read all your characters and the like. Though, it would be a chance to get rid of weird little things you came up with that you didn't like. I've went back and changed a few motivations and some of the events surrounding how land changed hand in my nations history, for instance.

Now now, lets not accidentally start World War 3. Other wars have been started by less. And I would much rather the Ukraine give up its little dangly then have to do something uncomfortable like be drafted and die in some muddy field in Poland.
