The screams and cries of war echo through the tainted, bloody atmosphere of a long battle between three relentless, merciless factions. Arrows fly through the air, blades are swung overhead, and catapults fling boulders onto legions of men, yet an eery presence and a peculiar light alters the familiar environment. The occasional spell could be heard chanted among the ravages of war, having unimaginable results -- whether it be incredible healing, an unbreakable shield, or an invocation of great destruction. With a broad spectrum of spells, they all stem from an unusual possessor.

Mamodos. Creatures from another world that journey to earth to partake in a war to establish the new king of their realm, binding themselves to a human individual to act as their spell caster and primary ally. A spellbook is assigned to each Mamodo in which contain the commands to unleash their power, each being different from vast diversity of their race. Adding to the diversity of spells that the Mamodos conjure, they all come in many different forms. Some say they've witnessed giant, demonic-looking beings that hold bold strengths and spells, while others could be small children that dominate in the battlefield and unleash unmatched abilities. Making an appearance in this time, the Mamodos have quite the selection of humans to decide on.

The English [+]

Cunning, intelligent, and controlling, with incredible knights that could be seen as unstoppable if they were given the chance to cast spells. In control of a vast amount of land, the English are a common race, their lands being the popular grounds of Mamodo battles. The knights of the English are trained to be fierce fighters with skills of various weapons, holding a well-known, strong calvary that really eliminates the front lines of any opposing army.

The hierarchy for the English is very vast, though there is a fine line that separates the nobles from the commoners. Even in a time of great war with consist battles, the nobles still find the time to indulge in their own dramas within the royal court, many of which are blind or dismissive of the issues going on between the countries. With that, the military does not receive the respect they deserve from many of the nobles, but they are revered by the citizens.

The Vikings [+]

Brave, stout, and fierce, with driven warriors that thirst for battle and contain many talents in combat who wield all sorts of weapons ranging from strong bows, to sharp spears. The Vikings are clever with their weaponry, and with the aid of a Mamodo, they can only enhance their advancing battle technologies. Home to many of the worlds best fighters, they may appear few in numbers, but each soldier is incredibly skilled due to their harsh trainings. They control the northern islands and the land mass that seems to be buried in the frigid chill and the large accumulation of snow. They have the best domination in the sea that separates itself from surrounding countries, having very advanced naval technologies and ships. They have adapted to the cold and are excellent hunters and survivors.

The Vikings only allow the bravest and most deadliest fighters enter the high ranks of their noble hierarchy, believing that being a strong, courageous warrior is a necessary prerequisite to leading a population. Without knowledge of what the armies go through, how could their plans of attack be wise and successful? Thus, the major leaders of the Vikings are great, renowned fighters.

The Chinese [+]

Strategic, traditional, and swift, with a long-line and a perfected art of swordsmanship, their samurais are ruthless in battle and commence incredible techniques. To add the abilities of the Mamodos would make for a fearful army, full of unbeatable strategies. The Chinese are very high in numbers with brave warriors that will fight for their country and defend their honor. The military is very strict to gain the support of each and every soldier. With very traditional, though powerful weaponry, they slice through their enemies with their growing techniques. The Chinese are careful with their attacks, generally striking at just the right time and rallying their abundance of troops to ensure victory.

The Chinese are lead by a great deal of educated individuals, believing that a diverse and proper education is necessary to leading. While actual experiences are beneficial to making a great leader, they only submitted a small sum of leaders to be on the front lines by request of the individual. The Chinese are lead by wise scholars who go through many lessons and take all things into consideration.

In an incredible battle to overtake land and release growing frustrations to the opponents, the three countries utilize their best acts of war to see who it is that will succumb first. Although they all see the strength of the Mamodos as blessings and personal weapons to aid in their own war, some have formed an alliance, regardless of which faction they are apart of, in hopes to make an outside party to help build a rebellion against the ongoing war. They are led by three Mamodo-users, one from each faction, who founded what is called 'The White Knights'. While they were quick to receive their Mamodos, they are still growing in strength despite their already strong and famous battle prowess. The White Knights are small in numbers though capable of battling large armies, but they are recruiting more, especially those in possession of a Mamodo, to try to build a fearful army.

Many of the towns and villages that lie on the border of each country are unpopulated due to the dangers and inconsistently reoccurring attacks. Battles exist on the shores of each country, even to the populated streets of reinforced cities, and to the deep seas that separate each faction. The zones for war stretches far and wide, with unpredictable events taking place anywhere within the zone.

The Vikings rule the northern islands and are not consistent attackers, focusing more on their defenses due to their shortage of numbers. Though their attacks are commonly seen on the shores of England and China, they never maintain their newly conquered territories for the sake of being low in numbers.

The English control a large land mass that has several hills and beautiful architecture. Their lands are well-populated and their borders are heavily defended, stationing many of their knights at various bases along their shores.

The Chinese maintain a very diverse, large, and beautiful land mass that is very-populated despite the many acres of land that are popular to the abundant wildlife and beautiful natural beauties. The Chinese are well-rounded individuals from having territory in the deserts, the frigid mountains, and the incredible rainforests that house a harsh jungle climate. With this, they have many leaders across the land that control their own city-states.

So this roleplay is medieval-themed while taking on the concept of Zatch Bell in that they are participating in the Mamodo war to decide who is their next King. Zatch Bell is about a war of a race known as the Mamodos who are fighting each other until one is left. The only way to kill a Mamodo is by REALLY killing them down, or by burning their book with an offensive spell. The Mamodos depict a human to be the caster of their spells, reciting the words in the book that appear. Through practice, battle, and/or increased emotional relations between caster and Mamodo, newer and more powerful spells will be unlocked. The book is basically full of unreadable, slightly-transparent words, glowing and becoming readable when the caster is of ability. Their citations and spells are listed here, but feel free to be creative and make up your own and whatnot; feel free to use that site as a guideline!

Aside from the battling that'll commence in this roleplay, we'll also be dealing with political plots and alliances and whatnot. So don't expect to constantly be fighting! The first post will probably take place at the end of a battle, and receiving an invitation from the White Knights to meet at a specific spot which would be their hideout. Then the proposition of joining the White Knights would take place, and that's when you can accept or deny it. Not sure how I'm going to go about this just yet.

✿ Creating Your Character

So you'll be creating two characters essentially, your human character and your Mamodo character. Your human can be of any faction and have any status, whether it be a strong knight, a commander, a commoner, or a beggar even. Your Mamodo can be of exotic appearances or take the appearance of humans as well. I know in the anime they use a lot of child-like appearances for the Mamodo since it is about children battling to become King, but I'm not going to enforce a drastically youthful appearance here. Feel free to do that if you wish, but just know you have free-reign unless I say otherwise!

As for creating your Mamodo, within the anime, they have a widely diverse amount of Mamodos. Here are an examples of some themes that they have:

If you have any other ideas, just let me know! The only thing I ask of you guys, is to not have your Mamodo extraordinarily powerful since the beginning will mostly take place soon after their arrival. So your beginning post can consist of just finding your Mamodo and forming the bond, or perhaps they've already found each other and they're exploring each other's personalities. In addition to this, please don't make your two characters be incredibly unstoppable, but don't be afraid to make them rather strong!

While I'm a huge fan of having powerful characters and really being creative with abilities and whatnot, please don't make your character super overly strong. Auto-hitting also falls under these guidelines; please never assume the outcome of your attacks when interacting with other PCS.

Please, please, please be creative with your characters~! For this RP, I'm giving people free reign to a broad spectrum of possible characters, BUT it must fall under the medieval theme. So, you could create a noble, a knight, a samurai, a viking, a commoner, a farmer, etc.

▲ Character Sheets
I definitely want to see a good amount of effort and thought in your characters. Please don't half-ass your character sheets and pull a character out of your ass. I'm not too strict with what kind of artwork/photography is used for your characters and face claims, but please just make sure they fall under the medieval theme. Be creative~! Since there's not a whole lot of artwork to claim, be descriptive with appearances and such.

I want this to be a casual roleplay, but that doesn't mean you can get away with posting one-liners. Be considerate and read everyone else's posts before going to post your own, even if they're not interacting with your character! I expect a few paragraphs, but please make the content of your posts to be descriptive of your actions and thoughts of your character. There's nothing I hate more than seeing somebody include content in their post that re-explains the actions of a previous post just for the sake of adding more 'meat' to the post. If that makes sense... Just don't be copy/pasting anything!

I definitely wish to see active players in this roleplay and if you're unable to post or be active, please inform us! If you go a week without posting or mentioning that you're to be inactive, I will either post as your character or just continue without you. With that, I hope that everyone makes characters that they enjoy playing and that the story I create will keep everyone interested enough to roleplay~! THUS, I'm not opposed to any feedback or suggestions that you guys give me!

One thing that I wanted to do with this roleplay that is different than Zatch Bell is to add a lot more realism to it. I'm not opposed to excessive swearing if that's how your character is, nor am I opposed to nudity. But I am opposed to ERP and descriptive sexual encounters. If you wish to do that with another PC, then just take it to the PMs or something. If you wanna flash your titties, or whip your dick out, I don't really care. I don't want to limit your characters just for the sake of the rating of the RP, but there are lines that shouldn't be crossed.

I strongly encourage in-character drama, but don't be sensitive and take it to OOC drama, nor do I want to see any form of OOC drama. If you wish to give someone a piece of your mind, simply do it in the PMs and don't involve other people of the roleplay.

▲ List of nomenclature

So I see that we have interest from people that haven't seen the anime, which is totally fine~! I linked a nomenclature list above that will describe prefixes and such to build the citation of the designated spell. Keep in mind that they have different levels of spells at the bottom, but I'm not really requiring you guys to use them. I believe those citations are only paired with spells to describe them as a stronger version of the original spell. For example Brago's 'Reis' fires a small, compressed, gravitational well that does pretty good damage. The upgraded version uses the proper suffix and is known as 'Gigano Reis'.

There are several different types of combinations that I'm sure will fit everyone's characters~! If there's nothing that properly fits your character's spells, feel free to make your own suffix or prefix or whatever it is. I'll add it to a list here and we'll all go by it!

As a For Honor fan who has probably logged something like 100 hours in the game, I'm excited to incorporate my main fat man Shugoki into this RP as a Mamodo. I also must say I have never watched Zatch Bell, is there anywhere I can find it online? Is it on Netflix?

Lan Xu is a very petite boy as he only stands around four feet and ten inches without his shoes on. He has delicate white skin that wouldn't be expected of a swordsman, free from any scars, bruises, etc; the only exceptions are the bandages that cover his chest and the polygonal shaped birthmarks that run along his left shoulder and pectoral. Lan was born with dull blue, practically silver, layered hair that tends to stick up in various directions, and sharp and narrow blue-green eyes.

Lan's most iconic outfit is a

Lan's casual wear is a traditional steel blue Chinese kimono with dark blue accents, a blue sash, and red tie. He wears wooden sandals that add an inch to his height. Lan tends to wear this kimono loosely, only wearing one sleeve. In terms of accessories, Lan wears three earrings on his left ear.

When first meeting Lan, he seems to have a cold, aloof personality based off of his appearance. He appears to have a distant attitude around everyone besides Dorothy...that is until you get close enough to actually talk to him.
The true Lan is a very crude, violent, arrogant, and aggressive person. Having an attitude reminiscent of a teenage delinquent, Lan tends to come off as very anti-Bushido, if not downright evil. This problematic behavior goes all the way back to his early childhood days. Uncomfortably brutal at times, Lan smiles eerily when finding himself in the middle of a battle. His personality reflects his fighting style when alone or with Dorothy: mercilessly assaulting the opponent and having no regard for anything other than the enemy around him. Despite this, he's quite talented in fighting, using his katana in various ways besides attacking. He's also very intelligent, being capable of strategic planning, to the point that some even consider him a prodigy.
While not the most mentally stable fighter, despite having the image of one, he knows who his enemies and allies are. Cold to his allies, but colder to his enemies. He's also very rude and foul-mouthed, which makes him hard to approach; with the help of Dorothy, his aggressive outbursts become less aggressive. With that in mind, Lan knows when to be mature, although is still quite aloof and unsociable, showing disinterest in hanging out with his fellow allies.
Due to the constant praise of his abilities, Lan has a superiority complex and wants to be first and the best at everything. He doesn't like when people look down on him, as if they were superior; thus, it diminishes his already short fuse. Because of his complex, he's implied to be anti-social; he seems not to care for much people aside from Dorothy.
Lan is also immensely prideful, as he hates the idea of others either helping him or him having to rely on others to assist him in battle. Because of his pride, Lan refuses to work together with others (aside from Dorothy of course) claiming he can do whatever he's assigned on his own. However, he will repay those who help him.

Dorothy, much like her partner, is a small girl standing around three feet tall. With fair skin mostly covered up by either her clothing or bandages, Dorothy has short straight purple hair styled to have side bangs, and large ruby red eyes that are covered by bandages, indicating that she is blind.

Tristan typically has a traditional Chinese sword on him as well as a book and several vial attached to his waist. His hair is a silky smooth greyish white and his eyes a sharp yellow. His build is rather slim and stands at five foot six inches tall. He has two particularly sharp front teeth and he often wears a light brown cloak.

Tristan can be a bit condescending and rather sarcastic at times though he's more well known for his silver tongue. He enjoys a being tested so he seeks battles of skill rather than brute Force. When you've earned his friendship he is one of the kindest and most loyal people you will know. He's a bit of a scholar and alchemist.

Tristan was never really one who cared all too much about war though he did love fighting. His main talents lie elsewhere in putting together various mixtures be they poisons, soothing tinctures, or flammable materials. Such is to be expected of one raised by a traditional Chinese medicine man though he himself has sought to separate him from those traditional methods and discover new ways to go about making mixtures. Just because he's knowledgeable in many things does not mean he cannot fight. He's was trained with the higher class samurai so his swordplay is nearly on par with his alchemy.

Jach Teruk- Fires off four feathers at high speed from a long range. Each individual feather can be fired at once or over the course of a few seconds. The feathers have sharp piercing and cutting abilities better than most arrows of the age.

Lonz Inkierdor- Strengthens the density of the feathers on her wings allowing them to be used as a tough shield or a heavy close range blunt weapon.
