Gender: Female
Age: 21
Sexuality: Bisexual
Godly ancestor: Persephone
Son/daughter or further removed: Daughter
Relationship with godly ancestor: Close, but tense. As Mel has come of age and breached
into adulthood, she's gained a slowly growing angst toward her mother due to their abilities being,
as she considers them, "lame" in comparison to all of the others surrounding her. For this, she
blames her mother and grandmother, despite their lack of control over the situation.
Relationship with mortal family: Mel's father is a quiet, soft-spoken man, which is perhaps
what his appeal was to Persephone -- he could not be further opposite of Hades. While most would
consider these attributes weak, Melaena admires her father's simple personality and lifestyle,
and because of this, she feels comfortable and safe with him.
Powers: Persephone, being the goddess of Vegetation, and Queen of the Underworld, passed
down not only her environmental influence powers to her daughter, but also an angst and
dissatisfaction with the world that would rival that of popular alternative bands. All joking aside,
Melaena is able to manipulate plants and, at times, the dirt/earth surrounding it.
Personality: Sarcastic, witty, and cynical with an underlying sweetness that came from her
father. Fiercely protective and independent, to the point that she comes off as defensive. Lost and
constantly trying to find her place in the world.
Bio: Born to the goddess Persephone and human David Vlastisi, Mel grew up in rural Texas.
Her father was a gardener, and from a very young age, Mel could tell you the type of tree based on
the leaf, bark patterns, and everything about it from its age to its preferred weather and season.
As she got older, she was often patronized for her father's profession and eventually began to avoid
all things plant-related. She became anti-social and modest, trying desperately to keep out of the
spotlight and get attention away from her.
