Costumed Appearance: Lightning Bug wears a brown hooded cloak, rounded at the bottom, over a long sleeved tan shirt. She wears neon green pants, designed to mimic the flash of a firefly, and heavy black boots laced up to her calves. Lightning Bug wears black leather gloves to cover her fingerprints, and a pair of green-tinted goggles to hide her appearance, in addition to the hood.

Civilian Appearance: Jessica can often be seen wearing various colors and patterns of checkered or plaid buttoned shirts, though they are often unbuttoned or the corners are tied in front of her to reveal the white shirt she wears underneath. She usually wears boys jeans, as they have pockets both deeper and more numerous than girls jeans. Jessie does still wear the same boots she wears in her costumed form however, as she thinks they're generic enough that she won't be recognized.

Costumed Personality: Lightning Bug delights in causing chaos. While she rarely wants to see any of her potential victims get hurt, she finds that causing panic and confusion is a fantastic tool to help her reach her goals. Lightning Bug is quick and efficient in her schemes, and attempts to plan ahead, often laying the groundwork for a job weeks in advance. In the moment however, she allows herself to cut loose, improving speeches, one-liners, displays of power, and the like; so long as it doesn't interfere with her plans as a whole. She has been called deranged due to the fact that she wears a big smirk during all of her jobs, but truth be told it's simply because that is when she feels in her element, and most like herself.

Civilian Personality: Jessie is bored. Bored of the mundane, of traffic, of people, of work and school and grocery shopping and small talk. She craves excitement and adventure, feeling frustrated at being stuck in college and working at her parents flower shop. Deep down Jessie fears disappointing her parents, even though she's an adult and insists she makes her own decisions. She wants to provide a comfortable, wealthy life to the people she cares about, and when she's done that she plans on disappearing and living her own life, doing whatever she wants.

--Electrokinesis: Lightning Bug's body constantly creates a high-powered static field. She is able to manipulate this power to manifest purple bolts of electrical energy from her hands, firing them at a range of about 15 feet or using them up close and personal. She is able to control the level of shock, from as small enough to simply charge a device such as an iPod up to being able to short out someone's heart. She is also able to manipulate electricity in the environment around her, though to a lesser degree of control.

--Short Range Teleportation: Lightning Bug has manifested an ability to instantly transport herself and any inanimate object she can hold to any spot within her line of sight. She disappears in a bright spark of purple energy and reappears in a similar manner at her chosen destination. Currently she is only able to teleport about five or six times before needing to pause and rest for a few hours.

--Limited Technopathy: Lightning Bug is able to project her will onto simple computer systems, making it easier for her to access things she shouldn't or bypass security systems. This is a low-level power, and takes most of her concentration to be able to do.

--Telescopic Goggles: The green goggles Lightning Bug wears have a built in telescoping system, allowing for her to more clearly see distant points she might be able to teleport to. These further jumps wear her out more quickly, but have provided a way out of a few tight situations.

Biography---------

Character History/Origin: Jessica Beedle was born in Coast City California, the daughter of accomplished geneticist Gerard Beedle and his wife, Susanne. Her early years were filled with joy and comfort as her father's position afforded them a fair amount of wealth. When she was around eight years old however, her father presented some research stating the he believed humanity was not the peak of evolution on Earth, and that a greater change to the species was coming. This was seen as a ludicrous theory by his peers, and Gerard was eventually forced out of the field he loved so much. The family was forced to move out of their luxurious home after their saving dried up, selling off their assets and investments. Jessie watched her family go from happy and wealthy to poor and frustrated.

Several years after her father lost his position, Jessie began to discover her unusual abilities. They began as simple, explainable things; static buildup leading to small shocks, being good with computers, things like that. It wasn't until she was standing in the small kitchen one day, staring out the window and daydreaming as she washed dishes that she began to realize something was very different about herself. She went from washing dishes to suddenly standing in the empty lot across the street, dishrag and plate in hand. She ran back to her house where she was met by her concerned parents, who had seen her sudden vanishing act. After that she began to experiment more and more, discovering her electrical abilities and testing the range on her teleportation. Gerard was thrilled at this discovery, seeing it as vindication of his theory that humans were set to have an evolutionary leap, though he could never have predicted something as drastic as this. Jessie's parents encouraged her to push the limits of her powers, to see what she could do, and to test how much better she was than a normal person.

As the years went by, Gerard used his waning influence to help Jessie get into a prestigious tech school in Coast City, and most of the funds from the flower shop went to support his superpowered daughter. Jessie worked weekends in the shop to help pay back the debt she owed her parents, but soon found herself bored with it all. She still remembered living in the lap of luxury, and with these abilities what was keeping her from simply taking what she wanted? Of course, she didn't want to leave her parents in the dust, and so she began to concoct her plans. She'd stay in school and earn a degree, something useful that could land her a job wherever she went. She'd cut back on working at the flower shop, only coming in a few times a month now. She used her new free time and a limited budget to construct her costume, a design she hoped would hide her identity and remind her of her parents nickname for her: Lightning Bug. And then, once it was all complete... Well, there were certainly people and places out there with some excess green to spare. Who would mind if she simply... Liberated some of it?
