Not to put @BlackBishop's map work to waste, but there's also the option of choosing a pre-generated map via Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator. It's pretty customizable; you can choose how many regions the map has, add hills and islands, select a few different views (topographical, poltiical etc.), customize location labels and it can auto-generate borders. In short, it does a lot of the work for you and you can tweak to taste, giving you more time to focus on the writing.

That's a neat little mapmaker, and I'm all for us going that route for a simpler rendition of the map. I can make a copy of it with CC+ to add in more detail too. It looks like a great program to get a solid foundation and build from if we so choose.

As long as the geographies remain more or less the same, I'm fine with people making as many artistically different kinds of maps as they like. Any differences can just be retconned by the fact that cartography in this kind of setting is not an exact science.

This idea of the deities fighting to maintain control over a pantheon is absolutely great. It is actually partially inspiration for my own world I've been working on for years. You might consider that while the landscape is rather barren as a result that there is some other terrible side effects of this battle. For example, perhaps the setting is mainly a wasteland and water is in extremely short supply having been consumed as a means of exploiting magic. Or perhaps, something similar being sacrificed as a means to obtain victory. Other examples of things that may have been sacrified, Iron or other metals making armor less effective, shaping the way fighting styles arise and subsequently forcing the world to advance in a different manner. Maybe life forms are emaciated, their life force drained as a means to supplement the existence of deities as they struggled to fight on each forcing civilization to become vegetarian as eating most animals is difficult with very little meat to be harvested. These are things to consider. Anyone can build a world - but what sets the world apart is what will draw people to the attraction.

@Vahir Looks good. Although a bit disappointed in that we won't have a hand in developing gods for the setting.

I mean, nothing was getting done anyway. I had to make some executive decisions to get the ball rolling somehow.

Disappointed as well that we didn't get a hand in godmaking, but in favour of getting us moving forward.

If it makes you guys feel any better, the Old Ones are still undefined, if anyone feels particularly Lovecraftian.

@Vahir One of the best pieces of advice I can provide you with when it comes to collaborative world building is to allow players to create things with the obvious oversight. So while the gods may be predefined, why not start with a blank map and one major city/region/country then allowing the players to fill in the blanks. Allow players to create races, flora, fauna, et cetera.
