I think having true love break the curse is good, since Akito will die early I would need necessarily think that when he does the curse breaks because that wouldn't really explain the previous generations of the curse. Did they simply not have an Akito type leader? What happened when that person died if they did have one? All very confusing and since I haven't read the Manga I don't know a whole lot about it.
I say, that him dying doesn't break it, but true love does. Of course I agree they should find this out over time.
