I saw a different variation of this question on Space Battles many years ago. It asked if you would rather live in a small confined but comfortable area, the size of around 1000 square feet worth of living space, that was protected from an infestation of head crabs. Beyond the room there was a large building that was infested with the little bastards. Headcrabs, which are little alien beasts that can jump on your face, like a face hugger, and possess you by slowly feeding on your mind. While you are conscious it is controlling you, so you are immortal for as long as it is devouring you for whatever it's life span is, until it dies. Whatever it feels you feel. The only way to save you is if it dies, and if it dies, you die with it.

However the protected room possessed 1,000 square feet of living space. with plenty of video games, TV programs, etcetera to entertain yourself by. It possesses bad for your health but good for your taste buds kind of food, and mediocre sanitary supplies that would allow you live until your 70's or maybe just barely beyond that. You have infinite electrical power and running water, even the internet, but your identity is prohibited from the Computer software from being shared, and your location is out of range for anyone reach you anyway. However you could try to escape the massive building by moving past the room into the rest of the complex. If one of those things latch onto your head though you're screwed.

In this version, which I call "Headcrab Escape or Lonely Paradise, it's a lot different. You have a 3,000+ square foot little paradise of a world to live in for the rest of your life, which will be hundreds of years, up to 1,000 years old. You can eat basically whatever you want, you have indoor hot plumbing, infinite electrical power, the internet, and basically a small mansion like living space with all the comforts you could want, including video games, etcetera. The situation is the same as above, only you have hundreds of years to live alone. If you enter your small mansion like paradise where you will be the healthiest person who ever lived, knowing that you'll live longer than anyone else who ever lived, but will never meet another living person as long as you live, would you try to escape the infestation past your living area, or would you be content with living in your Lonely Paradise?

Well this is a very philosophical question, and I love to answer this. I will choose this lonely paradise. And find a knife or something sharp and thrust it through my heart. By doing so, there will never be a paradise on earth anymore. And it is fun to watch the world burn. I will not have to be controlled by those " face hugger", nor will I have to face the silent of the world. So this is my answer, I will enter this paradise and corrupted it by my blood. It would be so fun doing so.

Paradise

It is quite simple in the end to find a loophole to the requirements of staying inside and never meeting another person. That is, quite simply, a sentient AI. It is not a person and thus is the loophole to being unable to find another person. Due to its nature as an AI and, since it'd require a lot of computing power to have a sentient AI in the first place, it would be capable of creating endless scenarios of how to advance outside to contact other humans.

However, if the loophole doesn't quite work in the end, then I'd rather just go out there and fight with whatever equipment I can make from the mansion. It is the annoyance of living forever yet watching all you care for die before your eyes. The loneliness of a vampire that I wouldn't personally subject even the person I hate the most to.

Interesting. I wonder if there are people that wouldn't mind the loneliness so much. After all, you ahve the internet. You can talk to someone but you can never be face to face.

If I could, I would stay in the room and try to dig underground and establish an elaborate complex and spend time fortifying it with traps and the like and craft various crude weapons. After a hundred years or so I would douse the complex and the room in some kind of combustable substance and Lure as many of the Headcrabs as I can towards me as I retreat further and further within. I would also set up a timer at the entrance that would create a small fire once the timer counts down from say an hour or so and will ignite the 'paradise' into an inferno. Knowing they await outside this 'paradise' would not provide comfort to me even with the knowledge they could not get to me (I imagine because of a locked door or something?). It would be a tortuous life as I would live like a caged animal unable to be free and I would rather die than live like that. They indirectly controlled my movements as I dare not to leave but dead, I am truly free.

Normally though, I do avoid physical contact with others when I can. So I would stay in that room even without headcrabs.

What if you were presented between just those two choices? And remember, it's not so much of a room as it is a mansion.

I would still choose a route that will likely end in self-termination while attempting to eliminate as many headcrabs as I could. I think it would be easy to find some pans to place over my head and secure with duct tape or something. While by no means impenetrable, I think it would buy me a few minutes.

I don't do enough with the time I have now to know that a couple hundred of years would be more motherfucking, boring than a political debate with a chronic stutterer.

I leave but before I do I put together some sort of motorcycle helmet and duct tape some spikes on top.

Shit, man. I guess I could motherfucking, strapp myself in pillows and belts and just smack 'em with a lamp or something. I mean, wouldn't be any different than when my mother in law comes to visit.
