Television is weird and oddly addicting. Well, it used to back then. Cable service is not utilized that much considering the start of streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and other video applications. Even then, people would record only certain shows or only newer episodes.

Channel suffering is dying. It did provide entertainment for those who had nothing better to do. Hell, it might even help those who do not have the luxuries of streaming services and DirecTV. Charlie Chaplin claimed television would not last long after its first debut. I think television can still hold up a bit longer.

Executive producers just need to stop pitching the same shows over and over again. They need to halt on the cancellation of very popular programmings. You guys remember Firefly? No more reality television shows that we never considered watching; I never asked for a show about Honey Boo Boo.

Despite all the crap on television and all the complaints I have, it’s still entertainment. I still find my eyes glued to the monitor. I think it’s an addiction, but little by little, tv is improving. I feel that right now, television is just on a downward slope. And I have just the procedure to make it exciting again!

“You have been invited amongst one of your friends to attend a television viewing party. The party regards the premiere of a new season of a critically acclaimed show. Multiple hashtags and pop culture references emanated from this series. Twitter blew up as fans counted the days from the hiatus. This show built up a lot of hype.

You decide to go to the series premiere. Most of the people attending are people who you have met before. Even then, you know the host. The person hosting the event always seemed a bit odd, but who isn’t weird?

Everyone communicated a bit with each other. Thirty minutes and everyone gathered around the high definition flat screen. The commercials were coming to a close and transitioned into the opening song. Unfortunately, the television immediately turned to static.
Almost all of the party-goers booed and began throwing the commemorative snacks at the screen. Some people began to whine while others sighed and thanked the Lord they decided to Tivo the episode. The silence suddenly broke when the tv acted strange. Weirdly enough, the television had a gravitational pull.

Nobody saw it coming as the pull seemed like nothing to worry about. At that exact moment, the flatscreen increased the strength. People began flying into the screen one by one. People tried holding onto the furniture, but the sofa and coffee table got sucked in as well. All throughout this madness, the host was not present.

All of the people attending became trapped in sort of a limbo world. By observing the surroundings, everyone seemed to have been transported in a bar or a saloon. No colors resided in this place -- only black and white remained.

An old television set on a wooden stage began to flicker on. The host of the party reared her ugly mug on the screen. “Hello, folks! Don’t worry, this was all planned out! I would go on a speal about the unappreciation of channeling surfing, but it’s all just a cliche. I’m not your bad guy. I’m merely a researcher.”

She clapped her hands enthusiastically. “I am bringing channeling surfing to a new level. Now then, your objective is to pass through all 101 channels. If you guys can make it through the programming, then that would be amazing. Essentially, you guys are my guinea pigs. I also wouldn’t try dying. Mainly because you kind of die as well...yeah, not so great, but I still think this is very innovative.”

What is this roleplay about?

Have you seen Fairly Oddparents Channel Chasers?

No.

How about Supernatural “Changing Channels”?

Nani?

Have you watched Sword Art Online?
I love that anime!

Sigh, yes. This is basically Sword Art Online, but channel surfing. Each level will have a theme. Whether it be a sci-fi adventure or a cheesy sitcom, players have to fight the boss or solve the problem in order to get to the next channel.

Each character will also have a power or ability of sorts depending on their favorite television show. Like a player who is a fan of The Walking Dead will have the abilities of a zombie and be powerful in horror genres.

I might set up a level system. If I do that, I will have to set a stat chart and spawn Heartless-esque tv minions.

This incomplete of course, but you get the premise and the idea. Any questions? It will help me fully polish it. Note that I might start this off in two weeks or three.

There's also no specific genre given we will be surfing through parody versions of popular television shows.
