There have been eight previous worlds.
You may refer to them as ages, aeons, epochs, or
eras, but it’s not wrong to think of each as its
own individual world. Each former world stretched
across vast millennia of time. Each played host
to a race whose civilizations rose to supremacy
but eventually died or scattered, disappeared or
transcended. During the time that each world
flourished, those that ruled it spoke to the stars,
reengineered their physical bodies, and mastered
form and essence, all in their own unique ways.

Each left behind remnants.
The Ninth World is built on the bones of the
previous eight, and in particular the last four. Reach
into the dust, and you’ll find that each particle
has been worked, manufactured, or grown,
and then ground back into drit—a fine, artificial
soil—by the relentless power of time. Look to
the horizon—is that a mountain, or part of an
impossible monument to the forgotten emperor
of a lost people? Feel that subtle vibration beneath
your feet and know that ancient engines—vast machines
the size of kingdoms—still operate in the bowels of the earth.

Each of the prior eight worlds, in its own way, is
too distant, too different, too incomprehensible. Life
today is too dangerous to dwell on a past that cannot
be understood. The people excavate and study the
marvels of the prior epochs just enough to help
them survive in the world they have been given. They
know that energies and knowledge are suspended
invisibly in the air, that reshaped continents of iron
and glass—below, upon, and above the earth—hold
vast treasures, and that secret doorways to stars and
other dimensions and realms provide power and
secrets and death. They sometimes call it magic, and
who are we to say that they’re wrong?

More often, however, when they find leftovers
of the old worlds—the devices, the vast machine
complexes, the altered landscapes, the changes
wrought upon living creatures by ancient energies,
the invisible nano-spirits hovering in the air in clouds
called the Iron Wind, the information transmitted
into the so-called datasphere, and the remnants of
visitors from other dimensions and alien planets—
they call these things the Numenera.

~ ]Numenera Core Rulebook

To say the Ninth World is weird, would be to say
humans are carbon. The technology (or magic) left behind
by the denizens of the previous epochs is as alien to any
Ninth Worlder as it is to us. Thus, the strange and unexpected
are commonplace in the Ninth World. Grass and flowers are just as
mundane and 'natural' as the floating mirror in the center of town
that reflects different points in time. The dreadful Iron Wind, a storm
that deconstructs and transforms everything it touches on the
molecular level is no stranger than the storms that bring only
foul smelling breezes Most don't understand how and none understand why.

The technology level of the Ninth World is roughly parallel
to our history's 100 C.E. (A.D.) But the Numenera allow Ninth Worlders
to control beasts, people, the elements, time, space and the very particles
that make all of it up. The challenge is understanding how any of it works.
Numenera allows you a very special level of freedom with character
creation. Do you want to be a human ranger type with a giant yellow
slug as a companion? Perhaps you'd prefer to be a practiced psionic
with an artificial brain, and a third eye. Have your fingers be one
foot long tendrils if you'd like. Maybe you prefer a good old fashioned
thief...with green skin and a mouth on your stomach. The Ninth World is
weird enough for you, are you weird enough for the Ninth World?

Feel free to ask if you are unsure of anything. (Reply or PM)
I'm looking for a minimum of three, no maximum. Who's Interested?
ALL PLAYERS WELCOME

I like the look of this. I guess it's the setting of a tabletop game, but will we be using any tabletop aspects in our playing?

@Gisk No rules from the tabletop or video game will be incorporated into play.
I am however, stealing a part of character creation from the tabletop game, but it has nothing to do with mechanics. Players choose a Character Type from a list of five, think of them like character classes.

@Mortalya Alright, sounds cool. It sounds from the description like characters are pretty much anything goes, thematically and mechanically, is that right? What are the character types, and what limitations are there?

@Gisk The five archetypes are:

~ Numenera Core Rulebook & Character Options 2

There are 4 limitations:
  • Characters must be at least somewhat humanoid. Between 3 and 9 feet. (Additional limbs are acceptable)
  • Characters should be experienced and decently competent in their skill set. However, they are not gods.
  • Characters should be no more powerful than a veteran hero or adventurer. You may be impressive, strong enough to tip a carriage with strain, or adept enough to manipulate gravity in your close proximity.
  • Backstory has almost no limitations. As long as it makes sense for you to be in the small town of Omar at the start of things.

I am also interested in this role-play! I love the idea and freedom of it. If allowed, I have a few PCs that may be of interest and fit in well!

@Cao the Exiled Jacks are the best fit. They can be skilled fighters and adept spell casters simultaneously. The catch being, you aren't a master of either.

"I swear I had no clue she was a princess! I just thought she had a daddy complex!"
Deekin Sin-Scale while being arrested for sleeping with a princess

<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>

Name: Deekin Sin-Scale

Age: 35

Height: 2'4"

Weight: 38 pounds

Hair color: None

Eye color: Gold

Skin tone: Gold Scales

Species: Kobold

Sex: Male

Sexuality: Whoever climbs in bed

Occupation/position/ title: Keeper and owner of the Bottle and Blade Speak Easy

(-4)Str|11|+0
Dex|18|+4
(-2)Con|13|+2
Wis|16|+3
Int|18|+4
(+2)Cha|18|+4

~Kobold Traits

  • Kobolds are weak and frail, but their size grants them quickness.
  • Kobolds are humanoids with the dragonblood and reptilian subtypes. For all effects related to race, a kobold is considered a dragon
  • Kobolds can see in the dark up to 60 feet.
Darkvision is black and white only, but it is otherwise like normal sight. Kobolds can function just fine with no light at all.
  • Kobolds are sensitive to light, making it hate to see.

~Unusual Body: Through a deal with a wizard, (task totally classified), all of Deekin's scales were turned to solid gold. This caused him to be less dexterous as his scales now have the properties of scale mail. That said, his scales now has the durability of average scale mail.

Theme song:

<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>

Personality:

Sanguine, troublesome:
Can be quite inappropriate at the wrong times. Deekin's only real good qualities are that he is very charismatic, quite often convincing others to see his point or ultimately do was he wants. This trait has been a double edged sword, keeping him from getting in (too) much trouble, or getting him in trouble.

Appearance:
A short and tiny lizard on two legs: The ideal description for a Kobold. Deekin is just over two feet and is rather frail. He has Scales the color of gold and his claws and teeth were magically changed to gold, why? Cause he's Deekin and can do what ever the hell he wants!

Likes:
Deekin likes many things, woman, booze, money, causing trouble, getting out if said trouble.... Yeah... He's not a very good man I must say....

<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>

"Any drunk can be convinced to do anything as long as you know how to speak, and how much Mead they had..."

<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>

Dislike:
He hates trouble caused by others that involves him. He hates others stealing from him and has no problem with send someone to retrieve it. Oh.... He also hates dog's... He has bad luck with them, dwarves too, but that's more of an ancient war kind of thing.

Habits:
Knitting sweaters for the Orphanage

Fears:
Others finding out that the sweater shipments are actually illegal booze

Scars/ tattoos:
A scar over his left eye, why is it there? Woman love scars

Abilities:
Can make any consumable substance disappear.... -wink-

Skills:
He's actually a master flute player, no seriously! He's amazing! Violins too!

Quick facts:
-He hates others commenting on his size an has poisoned and stabbed men for it.
-Was arrested in another kingdom for sleeping with a princess. When the princess begged for his release, he was banished.
-Has two companions, a female elf warrior who puts up with his shit due to a deal, and a female elf ghost that is bounded to a cursed ring he wears

<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<¤>

Bio:
Deekin was the hare to the chieftain position of his den. Problem is that he couldn't keep out of trouble. One day while him and a group of friends were sneaking through an enemy dwarven settlement, came across a Kobold slave from an ally den. Him and his friends saved her, but also showed the way to the den. The dwarves invaded, slaying eighty present of his den. After a truce was made, the slave was returned and Deekin was banished.

He lived ten years up in the content of Aldonia before he ran into another slave. He was working in a secret thieves guild when he was given the job to steal an amulet from an Orc chieftain. In the middle of the night, he snuck in, just to find a wood elf, beaten and afraid. He snuck to her, holding his finger over his lip and used his tool to free her. He noticed the the Orc was wearing the amulet, so he figured he could simply snag it....

Nope...

Turns out this man has done some..... Not so good things, so the elf took his great sword from the rack, unsheathed it and swung down, taking his head. The Kobold grabbed the amulet and the elf and ran like hell.

The rest will be told at a later time when Deekin and his creator are more sober....

Rp Example:
Deekin grinned as he stood on the bar top, flipping a coin in the air, catching it, just to flip it again. "Looks here pal! I have a battle ready Elf with sexual frustration issues! Don't make me sick her on you! Give me my fucking gold or she'll gut cha!"

Salerin rolled her eyes as she slapped the Kobold in the back of the head then popped her knuckles as she pulled her large great sword. "Hmm.... You look pretty fat sir. Should I take a little off the top? Maybe the midsection? Your fat ass looks like it can use a reduction!"

As she held the blade over her head, the man dropped the pouch of gold and squatted into the fetal position and balled, "NO! DON'T KILL ME! ILL LEAVE, TAKE MY GOLD! JUST DON'T KILL ME!!!" She looked at Deekin and in an instant, kicked the man in the nose, knocking him unconscious. Deekin hopped down, digging a claw into the man's forehead as he carved the Kobold symbol for shame into his forehead. "Take the bastard to the forest.... The wolves can have fun...

*Delivers a envelope with a beer mug stain*

I, Deekin Sin-Scale, here by swear that I will be loyal to the this kingdom (as long as if remains lucrative). I will allow others to not let any harm come to the Queen and King for as long as i am being paid well in this kingdom and this kingdom alone. I will appear to abide by the laws of this land if not I am held responsible for my own fate. I take on the role of the most badass inn keep in the kingdom. It's a pleasure serving the woman of the kingdom.
