The world has entered a new age of technological advancement. Video games, television, hover vehicles of all shapes and sizes. Virtual reality interface systems with internet servers rivalling the mythical Digital World have become commonplace. In the land of the humans things run rather smoothly. A technologically advanced, if not a bit overly reliant, World has risen. And yet, despite the setting all else seems unchanged. Children go to school, teens and adults work as they can, various individuals rebel in different ways, the government keeps its secrets, civil servants do what they do and criminals prey on the helpless.

“What if I told you the Digital World was real?”
“I’d say you were nuts.”
“And if I could prove the existence of the Digital monsters of legend?”
“When was the last time you ate and had a good night’s rest?”

In the shadows of the net, hidden away in a world parallel to our own lies the home of these creatures once thought to be a fallacy, a figment of human imagination. Digimon, as they are known, live, play and work. However, unbeknownst to the innocent of both worlds the Demon Lords of the Digital World were moving, gaining power and spreading their influence. The first year of their rise to power was instant. And yet, 5 years later, though once six, the Great Demon Lords of the Digital World find themselves down to four. It began with the betrayal of Beelzemon.

The Slumberer
Though he is one of the great general Leviamon spends his time slumbering in the depths of the the Net Ocean near the dark area. No digimon dares ventures to his supposed territory. Even the other Demon Lords leave the massive beast alone. It was decided he would be left alone unless the Demon Lords were to be driven into a corner.

The Traitor
Beelzemon, a digimon of great power, capable of possible becoming the most powerful of all the Demon Lords, save for perhaps Leviamon, left the sides of his former comrades. Though the embodiment of the sin of gluttony initially he grow beyond such chains. He grew to better understand the innocent digimon of the Digital World. He grew to feel a compassion for them and turned his back on the other lords. He has not been seen since his departure some 3 years ago. Even now, after his battle with Belphemon, he is sought after by the other Demon Lords to be made an example of and to be forced to use his power for them.

The Defeated
Belphemon attempted to bring Beelzemon back a year after he left. This led to the two coming to blows. The battle was great. In the end Beelzemon managed to deal a powerful blow forcing his former ally into what is known as the beast’s “Sleep Mode.” Many misjudge this admittedly adorable creature to be a sort of mascot or underling of the current four Demon Lords, but he is resting, healing, biding his time until he can rejoin the fray.

The Remaining
The remaining active members of the Demon lords continue to spread their influence, wreaking havoc in the Digital World in their quest for dominance. Daemon, Barbamon, Laylamon and Lucemon show no mercy to those who oppose them. However, they rarely move of their own volition. They use pawns and minions to complete their dirty work as a show of their power. They are not needed if their forces can get the jobs done. And if the inhabitants of the digital world can’t take down their minions how could they hope to handle the four themselves?

The Plan for Salvation
At the beginning of the fourth year of the Demon Lord’s reign a young man by the name of Junichi Miyamoto was contacted by an unknown entity. Fearful that the rise of the Demon Lords, and chaos of the Digital World, would spill over into his own world a Junichi developed a program with help from this unknown source. It would allow a human the chance to travel between his own and the Digital World. All that was needed was a group to help combat the rising evil. However, Junichi’s unknown aid would be tasked with the creation of this group while he got to work creating another program.

Junichi would soon create the popular app Digi-Protocal. The public has access to features that include an online trading card game in which players collect cards and strategically play against others with the aid of a virtual simulation of the digimon they’ve collected. Additionally owners of the app are treated to a guide to various digimon as well as an augmented reality camera which add various digimon to shots taken.

Unbeknownst to those who purchase the app is a series of others features that’ll be acceptable only to the chosen few. Digi-volution, Digi-modify, Digi-track, Digi-Map, and Digi-HUD were just a few of the programs Junichi had developed to help the Digi-Destined, as he learned they would be called, bond with and help their future digital partners combat the threat that laid before the.

Now, coming into the beginning of the sixth year of the rule of the Demon Lords, the time has come for the destined to be chosen. It has taken time for Junichi’s unknown friend to decide using the app and to raise a group of digimon who will help them fight. Should they accept the burden they will be offered, the fate of the Digital World and the real world will be in their hands.

Alright guys! So, that is a bit of backstory on what we’ll be going with. From here on out I will be adding more information, but not in the form of a narrative as I did above.

How?
You wanna know what I decided?! Number 2!
So, each player will be in charge of designing their tamer. You will also pick your partner digimon as well as their digivolution line. HOWEVER, another player will be in charge of developing their personality to either compliment or contrast your character’s (you two can discuss as needed). I understand this plan of action comes with the risk of one player dropping. However, in the event that a player drops I have a sort of plan. To elaborate, if a play drops that means a tamer and digimon slot will be opened. The person who was controlling the digital partner of said (dropped)player will most likely be able to pick of the digimon of whichever tamer is left without a buddy. I know that seems confusing, but trust me, a plan is better than nothing. Additionally, not trying this out because of the fear of failure would be like saying we might not as well try to RP at all.

Digivice
Ladies and Gentlemen, our digivices will be our phones. Upon entering the digital world the tamer’s phones will transform:

(Of course, you get to decide the color scheme of your own.)

They will retain the features held before, along with stored data and the previous capabilities, but they will gain access to all the features of the Digi-Protocal App and much more as we come to find out. They will be durable, one of a kind and pretty much beyond anything the characters have ever had access to before as far as the realms of phones go.

For Your Consideration
I'm thinking the final group will be something like 6-8 people. This isn't really a large group, but that's what it is considered in the tags. I do not run things on a first come first serve basis. I'll accept any number of Characters applications up to a date that is not yet set. From there I will approve the people who will form the group. I recommend you have an idea of the digimon you want to use in mind when drafting the tamer, but do not partner up yet as we do not know for sure right off the bat who will be in the roleplay.

Rules:
  • First and foremost, standard RPG rules do indeed apply.
  • As the GM of this roleplay my word is law. As such, please follow the guidelines set by myself along with any, and all, Co-GMs.
  • No Mary/Gary Sue, Overpowered, bullshit tier characters please. While it is important to note that not every character will be on the same level, it is also important that nobody is immortal/untouchable.
  • No power playing, metagaming, whatever. OOC knowledge should not be utilized in the IC, you should not, in any major way, attempt to control, harm, or move another player’s character without permission.
  • Romance is, of course, allowed. However, please take any sexual content and other acts above the PG-13 mark to PM or fade to black or whatever
  • It is likely that there may be death, but all matters will be discussed beforehand. Still, there will most certainly be destruction and gore, within reason. So, please be aware of this.
  • Have fun and try to be as active as your schedule allows. I know it is tough, but please try to let someone know whether or not you'll need to go if you can.
  • I honestly don't mind cursing or other variations of coarse language too much. However, please do not go overboard.
  • Being that this is casual level roleplay I expect a paragraph per post. Understand that this is a MINIMUM requirement, lowballing at that, as I understand it can be difficult to slam out large posts on a regular basis for some.
  • Finally, as the Gm of this RP I reserve the right to add and/or change any of these rules as I see fit, although I will only do so within reason of course.

Character Sheet (Tamer)
Image/Face Claim
“Quote”

Name:
Age: {I’d like to keep things within the age group of 16-18. Not too old, but not too young I think is good enough to save the world and deal with some of the crap they’ll be hit with.}
Gender:
Digimon: {List the digimon and the player controlling them.}
Appearance: {Please provide extra information on your character’s appearance. If you find yourself having trouble here allow me to help you. How tall are they? How much do they weigh? Do they have any piercings, tattoos, or birthmarks that might not be included in the face claim?}

Skills: {These are things that your character can do that can typically be learned or practiced by just about anybody given time and effort. Nothing really magical or special about it.}
Strengths: {Give three strengths. That is NOT a maximum, but don’t go overboard. Be reasonable. These can be physical, mental, emotional or whatever.}
Weaknesses: {Every good character is likely to have just as many weaknesses as they do strengths. Provide three, MINIMUM. These can be physical, mental, emotional or whatever.}

Personality: {Who is (Charater Name)? What do they like? Hopes? Dreams? Likes? Dislikes? Insight into the deeper aspects of who this character is.}
History: {Please provide at least a paragraph, for this portion of the app. It doesn’t have to be too much. I’ll generally be lenient and leave you room to work here, but honestly, it should be coherent and consistent with just who your character is.. I’ll try to make myself available to help if you need it. Everything else is all you.}

Character Goals: {1-2 paragraphs here. There are two points that you have to hit. First, youre plans for the character as the writer. Writing without a plan usually isn’t a good idea after all.}

Other: {Is there something not included in this app that you, the creator of this character, would like to add? Please feel free to add that information beginning with this section.}

Character Sheet (Digimon)

Well, I was thinking after we make the tamers we could discuss or I could pick for everyone. Regardless we shouldn't choose right off the bat. Especially if we aren't even sure about the Tamers just yet.

EDIT: So, don't worry about filling out the Digimon CS just yet.
But do enter the digimon of your choice in your tamer sheets. We'll save the rest, such as digimon characterization, for later.

*pokes head in* Oh, someone's actually doing a roleplay I'd be interested in. That's an interesting idea, sounds like there will be a lot of Collabs, though these might actually make some sense doing them. Count me in, glad you're not strictly first come. I've been rather absent, need a nice roleplay to keep me writing. I'll throw a tamer out there. I assume to not bother with the digimon one yet? I'll edit this with my CS.

So do we need to fill out an application for both digimon and tamer, or can we just apply for the role we intend to play? I.e. If i just want to play a digimon, do i still need to fill out a tamer sheet?

@LordLinguinie I know I'm not him. But I think the point is, to start writing a tamer character. And pick what digimon and their evolutions you want. But the backstory and personality will be choosen and played by someone else. So you're playing two characters, the tamer and
someone else's digimon.

@SleepingSilence is correct in their assessment of what is going for. If you want to play a wild digimon that is fine but keep in mind they are more likely to be along the lines of a side/support character than a primary.

@Demon Shinobi I'm basically done writing my CS. (not sure how smart it was writing it all down in the middle of the night, half awake. But I digress.) Before I go to bed, what exactly should I be putting in for character goals? I get that it seems to be, a breaking the fourth wall description. Basically asking, what do you want your character to do in the roleplay? Though I'm not 100% sure what the difference is between the first question of "how I want to write my character to effect the narrative." and the second? How I want them to play the app game in universe? Should I know the different styles of play? Like I'm not entirely sure what that's about.

Like unless, you're open to the idea of players helping as the antagonists and third parties. I'd assume all answers chalk up to very similar answers? Maybe it's the lack of sleep. I guess I'll find out when I wake up tomorrow.

Edit: I'm awake...kind of.

Firstly, I'm glad you caught that little typo and pointed this out. I'd like to apologize for the "second" part of the character goals. It was a bit late when I was completing my draft of the ooc. So I removed that little part.

Secondly, if you're having troubles with the character goal section it basically is like what do you want out of the character and the game. Are they written to fulfill the role of a particular archetype or trope? Do you want them to go against the tropes associated with a particular archetype? How might you want them to grow as a character throughout the roleplay? Some characters might need to become more trusting, or more caring while others might need to grow in maturity, etc.

Hopefully, this makes it a bit more clear.

@Demon Shinobi Okay. Thanks for clarifying. I think I have something that I'd -like- to happen for character growth.

Though for archetypes and tropes they're supposed to fill or avert/subvert. I don't tend to write based around existing tropes or archetypes. But if I read a characters personality and their strengths/weaknesses. I should already kind of know what archetype/trope they may be, or based on. If someone is full of edge and is a loner, and puts "team leader" for their intended archetype. I'll be like, how does that make sense?

I guess the point is seeing if you actually understand the character you wrote and having it simplified, so it doesn't have to inferred by others. Also I know what I'd -like- to happen for my character is the broadest sense. But that really should depend on how other characters and my digimon partner interacts with me. The story should shape/change are characters and it hasn't started yet. ;P

My character for instance has a hang up about the opposite sex because of a past incident, that I'd like for her to get over that. But I won't warm up to people, if they all decide to be terrible to my character. Which isn't even out of left field for their characters to do, because my character will have abrasive attitude toward them. Sometimes people change and not always for the better, after all.

I suppose I'll read what I wrote last night, make sure it's not a total mess. Fish out some kind of quote that make senses and write something for my goal and be sending it for inspection to see if everything looks good.

Try not to get into your head too much. What I'm writing as examples aren't requirements. More like suggestions or possible ideas for those who might get stuck.

Now I understand completely what you're getting at. What you want and what will happen are two different things. But it is more so about developing an sense of what you want and showing that you aren't going in blind. Plus I find it helps for the writing process.

It's also a bit of force practice on myself as an English major/tutor and what not lol

@SleepingSilence Like Demon said, you might be overthinking things. I think the general idea of the section is just "what is the arc you have in mind for your character". Just the general idea is all. While it may be weird to have in a CS, I think it's a good idea for an RP with limited participants. It probably helps the GM structure the story as we go to create scenarios and chances for our chars to grow as well as move the story forward.

EDIT: Although, a paragraph seems a bit much just to get that across ^_^;

@Vongola_HasayoI put 1-2 paragraph to sort of force a slight minimum of thought, but also cap it for those who can get a little lost in their character creation process and rambling.

It will help in my own musings for story and plot progression, but it will also (hopefully) serve to help all of your in your own thoughts and organization of the character. Maybe what you have in mind you'll look back on your character and think, "I'm not sure this part of the cs fits with what I want," or something else along those lines. definitely don't overthink it. This is sort of an experiment for me on my part. But hey, if it gets to be a big deal or anything i can always remove it.

EDIT: We are entering the 6th year of the Demon Lord reign. And the app was created around the beginning of the fourth year. So around 1 and a half to 2 years now.

Well I did some much needed polishing, here's hoping it isn't a mess and looks good.

Edit: May not actually be specified (or I'm blind). But where exactly is the location of where we are starting? Does it matter? Are we getting sucked into the digital world right away? Or are we going the tamers route? May lead to a name and history change. :3

@Vongola_Hasayo Yeah. Point taken. Here's some feedback.

First thing that immediately jumps out at me is Selfishness, Selflessness being two weaknesses.
Now you can have both of those as character flaws honestly the more I think about it, I'm not so sure about that statement., but they need to (well should) be specified. Or else it sounds contradictory, like he's somehow both in every situation.

Like my character for example, doesn't like boys. But I specify around her age group. Because she also respects authority figures and protects those younger than her that she sees getting bullied. So I don't just have 'hates guys' 'respects dad and protects the youth' which would seem contradicting on it's own.

So for instance, maybe selfless could be toward strangers to make himself look good to those he doesn't know, but anyone who actually is around him, he's selfish towards. Though that may be more superficial...

(I'd suggest maybe changing words. I honestly consider that a strength. Even if it doesn't usually inherit good results for a character. It's still not a real 'flaw'. It's not a negative character trait or something that character would be better off without, if you get me. Maybe Naive or Gullible? Those kind of things, lead to being friendly to those who don't have you best interest. And leads people to do kind things for others, they shouldn't. Believing in the good in others, who aren't good at all. Etc. But unlike, selflessness, that is something they'd be better off without.)
