[Mech image subject to change.]
Name: Daniel Ramos Correia
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Appearance: Daniel stands on the shorter side with a compact frame; not what most might call ‘model status.’ His build is square and athletic, honed solely for the rigors of military service. His olive skin and dark hair are characteristic of his Iberian origin. He possesses a stern face, strong and angular. Daniel’s usual attire is rather pseudo-military, pairing camouflage BDU pants and tactical boots with a simple bomber or denim jacket. He keeps his hair in a ‘short back and sides’ style, slicked neatly with product.
Faction: Wanderer (formerly NTC)
Occupation: Contractor
Personality: Daniel has grown something of an independent streak since falling out with the NTC. He usually presents a calm, sometimes aloof, demeanor which isn’t always an accurate indicator of his mood. He’s more likely to operate semi-independently during operations, though he won’t ignore the parameters of a given operation and knows full well the importance of team cohesion. Daniel is confident in his abilities, and if he feels he is in a position to take advantage of them, he won’t hesitate to do so.
The nature of the actions he unwillingly committed left Daniel with resentment for the NTC military, but has also desensitized him to many wartime sights that would churn stomachs. Morally, there are still lines Daniel is reluctant to cross, but he has grown to anticipate and even expect the worst of human nature.
Yet despite what some might perceive as a sullen character, Daniel is not so distant and is more than willing to create new friendships. He doesn’t enjoy talking about his history with the NTC, but with that exception, he can be an amicable, social individual given the right environment and team.
Background: Daniel was born a citizen of the New Terran Coalition to parents of Portuguese-Cuban origin. He served the NTC as a retainer, like his father and many others before him. While the Correia family was granted NTC citizenship upon its founding, most of its members didn’t fully agree with its heavy-handed politics and methods. However, retainer service came with benefits and in theory, allayed suspicions of dissent.
At one point during his service, Daniel and a handful of other retainers were attached to the newly-created 16th Special Operations Mobile Armor Corps (SOMAC). This detachment operated within a zone containing several fringe NTC colonies. The unit conducted patrols and screened traffic in the region, scouting for signs of dissidence following rumors of an insurgent uprising. The rumors proved to be true, and the 16th was tasked with quelling it. In its pursuit of the separatists, NTC High Command distinguished little between honest colonists and the guerillas. When it was clear that the insurgent fighters would not be halted by conventional means, High Command devised a brutal operation to root out and destroy them.
Daniel and the other retainers were unknowingly armed with a deadly chemical agent under the guise of a powerful anesthetic. They were told the chemical would only render civilians inert to facilitate their transit to safety before the offensive. In reality, NTC High Command planned to use the gas to wipe out the colony populations – thereby eradicating all traces of separatist activity. When the retainers administered the agent, they were horrified to discover its true effect. When they reported the incident, they were ordered to fulfill their task until they’d emptied their tanks. At the conclusion of the operation, Daniel and his unit were awarded with decorations for “defending the integrity of NTC space,” and forced to keep a strict silence regarding the details of the operation. They were reassigned from SOMAC to low-priority duties.
Following the incident, Daniel developed a deep remorse for what he’d done – he’d essentially been used to perpetrate a war crime. With that weight on his shoulders, Daniel’s loyalty to the NTC waned, eventually culminating is a decision to abandon the NTC altogether. He kept in touch with several of the other retainers who had become resentful of their former loyalties. As their service terms came to a close, they flew out of NTC territory and settled in other sectors. Daniel wasn’t content to live the rest of his life in hiding, and struck out on his own as a soldier for-hire. He found himself in the employ of various independent governors and petty kingdoms before settling in the Andevin Hegemony and working for a small list of trusted associates.
Currently without contract, Daniel finds himself on New Devon in search of a new job…
Motivation(s): Financial stability and living to see another day are the foremost of Daniel’s concerns. Someday he’d like to see his family again, but with circumstances as they are, he loathes the idea of going back to the NTC. He has a sense of wanderlust, needing to travel often and experience new places. Mercenary work tends to be a good outlet for that.
Technical DataModel Number: HCF-08M
Code Name: Hammond
Manufacturer: Ceres Industries
Dimensions: 5.380 meters tall
Weight: 30.932 metric tons
Armaments
- HVC-27 autocannon - The primary armament of the Hammond is a gas-operated, single-barrel 30 mm cannon. The primary tactical round carried by the Hammond contains a bit of explosive charge sealed in a shaped-charge liner. The liner collapses into an armor-piercing jet of metal that is capable of penetrating more than 2 inches of rolled homogeneous armor. The shell is also designed to fragment upon impact, having a lethal radius against unprotected targets in a 10 ft radius. The cannon is mounted on the left shoulder.
- SGM-89 AT missile - The Hammond’s right shoulder mounts a an anti-tank missile launcher. The missiles use a fire-and-forget infrared homing system to seek their targets. The SGM-89 is designed to knock out tanks with a top-down approach, firing missiles in an arc to exploit vehicles’ weaker top armor. Their range exceeds 4,000 meters and they are powerful enough to defeat 600-800 millimeters of rolled homogeneous armor.
- M180 rotary machine gun - An antipersonnel 7.62 mm rotary machine gun is mounted on the side of the chest. It has an independent axis with which it can traverse and fire across the frame’s frontal arc. Its rate of fire is variable, ranging from 2,000-6,000 RPM, with a muzzle velocity of 2,800 feet per second. Its maximum effective range exceeds 1,000 yards.
Equipment:- Countermeasures - The Hammond is fitted with smoke and chaff launchers, which discharge tiny particles to confuse the detection systems of guided missiles fired at the frame. The smoke blocks both vision and thermal imaging. A Windbreaker active protection system is designed to intercept and destroy incoming missiles and rockets with a blast of buckshot-like projectiles. A 360-degree field-of-view fire-control radar detects incoming projectiles, immediately calculates its vector of approach, the elevation and time required to intercept it. Once it’s done so, two rotating launchers release a blast of shot at the projectile, negating it at a safe distance from the frame.
- M-TADS/PNVS - The Hammond makes use of a new targeting and night vision system. The Modernized Target Acquisition and Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor (M-TADS/PNVS) is developed by defense, security and advanced technology company Ackerman-Liao. It features infrared sensors with multiple fields of view, a TV camera, electronic zoom, target tracker and auto-boresight.
- C3i 'Command, Communication, Control, Intelligence' suite - This suite uses complex algorithms to fuse sensor data from all friendly battlefield sources and known records for a commander’s overview of the battlefield, allowing for more efficient tactical control of the situation. It is only found on frames used by officers and NCOs.
Technical & Historical Notes: The Hammond is Ceres Industries’ flagship multirole frame. It’s ideal in a variety of combat roles and excels at destroying heavily-armored. It’s proven popular with the cream of the NTC, and is not an uncommon sight in foreign territories. Its armaments enable it to perform well against a variety of targets, and its speed gives it considerable mobility. An advanced control computer gives it considerable ease acquiring and locking onto targets. To give Daniel greater battlefield awareness, his Hammond as a C3i suite installed.
