This game needs more comic books. Don't worry though, I'm here to help.

Basic Information
=========
Superhero/Villain Name: Various
Civilian Name: Dialman
Origin: Dimension Z
Hometown: Danny The Park
Sex: None
Race: Benign Independent Thoughtform
Height: Pretty Tall
Weight: Pretty Light
Age: ?? Birth Date: ??
--------
Costumed Appearance: That of his current persona, but with the addition of the Dial embedded in the back of their head.

Icon: Varies, but Dialman has his H-E-R-O, which is the only part of him that can't change tone.

Costumed Personality: More stable than the vanilla untransformed Dialman, but at the same time in a constant mental battle between the original Dialman's mind vs. the personality and ethical principles of his current persona.

Civilian Personality: Dialman's mind is a hazy, jumbled mess of conflicting information from a hundred thousand worlds and times. He doesn't know who he is or where he came from but he's pretty sure that he's meant to fight a terrible looming threat that is even now drawing closer, even if he can't actually articulate what it is.

Super abilities:
-Powers: Unique Physiology: Dialman isn't real. He's not alive, not in the same way people are. He breathes different. Sees different. Bleeds different. He's got waxy smooth skin and staples down his spine and he leaches colors and words and thoughts right up into his own self and back out through him. Imagination is his lifeblood.

-Gadgets: Dial: A functioning Dial, though the exact model is unknown. Embedded in the back of Dialman's head. By using the buttons, he can reach through hypertime and become someone else. Be careful, though, because becoming someone else means giving up yourself, staining you with little drops of other people's hopes and dreams forever until you can't tell who you were before you were yourself.

-Weaknesses: Acetone, ethanol, citric acid, criticism

Civilian Occupation: Hobo

Biography
-------------
I was just a boy on Krypton when my parents were ambushed in a blind alley by a man with a hook for a hand, who stabbed them both with a dagger forged from Nth Metal and merged them into one superpowered being. Just as he was about to come after me, too, a stray transmitter beam hit me, teleporting me to Oa. There, I swore revenge and received cybernetic implants that made me the perfect fusion of man and machine. When I reached adulthood, I left Paradise Island as an envoy to the world of men.

But that can't be right.

Can it?

Hello, operator?

Right, forgot to tag. I've really got to get out of this mindset that people read of their own volition.

@MenhirNo, I saw it the first time. I just...had no idea how to respond to it. Your profile is both very bare bones and potentially broken (not to mention bizarre), given that your H-Dial lets your character basically turn into anyone at will (unlike the "broken" ones which give a random hero). Honestly, I'm gonna have to say no.

@Blackstripe
Actually, all forms of Dial give a randomized result in every continuity. The concept of a "broken" Dial was actually introduced in the 2012 Dial H run, with the primary difference being that a defective Dial steals identities rather than copying them. The only way to "game" a Dial's outcome is the ability to reverse time like Centipede did with his Q-Dial, which was kind of like savescumming until he got a good result. You could see this when the Operator, despite creating and perfecting the D-Dial himself, still had times when he dialed useless events and couldn't actually effect which outcome the dial bunch got.

But this actually isn't that Dial but a pastiche of the negative effects of the 4th generation H/S/Q-Dials and the overall powerset of the 3rd generation Dial from the 90's H-E-R-O run, though without the residual effects.

I'd suggest reading both they're very good comics.

@MenhirI gave your post history a glance over, and you seem like a pretty good RPer. I suppose with everything you just said you deserve the benefit of the doubt, assuming that you've read the history of this RP's setting and are familiar with it? It's not a typical DC world and has its own history, rules, conventions and lore.

You mean that textwall at the beginning? I'll admit it's a little tangled up in places and has some minor issues with not actually fitting into the current DC cosmology, but we can cross that bridge when we come to it. I mean, you basically just want Miracleman with a coat of paint, right? I can do a pretty good Miracleman, though honestly I'm more of a Morrison guy.

@MenhirIt doesn't fit within the current DC Cosmology at all and that isn't an issue, that's how I want it.

How's it a DC roleplay if it's not supposed to have anything to do with DC, though?

@MenhirIt is inspired by DC, has some of the same analogues and concepts (Captain Marvel, Batman, Green Lantern, Flash, etc), but they're under no obligation to follow DC Canon. It exists entirely in a separate multiverse from the main DCU.

@Blackstripe
The metaphysical ramifications of having more than one of an idea that encompasses all things that exist, have existed, or will ever exist aside, even the DC multiverse doesn't consistently have analogues to those people. In fact, even within the post-Flashpoint Orrery of Worlds, the only multiversal constant is The Atom for reasons nobody entirely understands. It stands to reason that a separate multiverse wouldn't have any analogues to DC stuff except by pure coincidence, right? So if we go by those rules then, for example, Lady Arcana would just be a version of Lady Arcana that superficially resembles Captain Marvel, rather than the other way around, right?

So why are you centering this on DC when you've got a setting all your own right there in the opening post?

I wouldn't say it's a bad setting, all told. If you just had a little confidence in what you could do this could easily stand on it's own. All you'd have to do is drop those weird forced references to "Earth-1" because, I'll be straight with you, it's very misleading when there's already an Earth-1.

So why don't you give it a try? Just, you know... drop all this bait and switch stuff. "Heroes Reborn - A Blackstripe Universe Roleplay", or something. Maybe that's a little narcissistic, I dunno. But it can't be any fun being on the defensive like this all the time, right?

@Menhir With anything there's usually a decent enough bit of give and take, and Blackstripe was willing to work with you after the first back and forth between you. Personally, I find the idea unique, but inherently in need of some tweaking. All of which I be more than happy to work out with you, so long as we stop this little game we're playing here. Blackstripe is the GM, and you're right about it not being any fun being on the defensive like this. That's where I step in.

I will work with you, should you choose to accept my help, but my flexibility only goes so far. This setting will not break in order to cater to what your idea of the RP should be, nor should it. If that is your intention, to come into this RP and make declarations and try to shoehorn your character in come hell or high water, then I feel you know what time it is. No one is pulling a bait and switch on you. You chose to make a CS for this RP, and that meant that you chose to subject yourself to the mercies of the GMs of this RP. We do not have to accept any person that just happens into the RP and decides to make a CS. We have an obligation to maintain the consistency of the universe that was created for us to RP in, and everyone before you that is actively participating in this thread has read the background for the setting and agreed to the terms of it.

Now, I leave you with this decision:

Either accept a compromise and work with us on making a character more fitting for this DC RP
Or accept that this conversation is finished and let us go our separate ways.

Your choice, you can contact me either through this thread or via PMs.

@Menhirone of the three GM's we have. Please treat them all with the same level of respect, instead of discrediting them because there's a CO in front of that GM

@MenhirSo, let's go over all the wonderful things you've displayed in your quest to gain entry into this RP.

1) Barebones profile: generally not a good idea, but hey maybe I can let it slide if the person seems cool.

2) Disparaging the premise of RP and its setting: always a class move. Always endearing. You apparently believe diverging from DC Canon means it shouldn't be called a DC RP...despite it having the Green Lantern Corps, The Question, Superman, Shazam, Aquaman, etc...uh-huh.

3) Disrespecting my CO-GMs: oh boy, do you know how to make an impression! Everyone here thinks you're very powerful now.

4) Overall dismissive and disrespectful attitude: and doesn't this just clinch it? Man, you practically make my job too easy for me. How could I possibly give you any other response but...

I think Blazion's turn was next, actually.
You have to wait your turn even if you're the GM, okay?
