@LordofthePies Well, you can look at the already accepted character in the other tab. But if you want a comparison with a specialist similar to your own, then look that the @FourthKing did. That one is acceptable too. It doesn't follow every guideline, but it has the most crucial parts. And probably the most important thing, is that they have a unique sort of feel. Their character has a lot of history and personality. Even if they didn't include a history and personality bit, from the quotes alone I was able to tell what their character was all about. The sheet just speaks for itself.
But I don't get that from your sheet. For a 4 year running diver, I'm expecting more than that. I barely know anything. Doesn't feel like he is a character yet. You know what I mean?
Btw @RyuShura, if you feel as though there are changes that can be made to my character feel free to PM me about them and I'll gladly try to adjust the sheet to fit the RP.
@FourthKing Yeah, I checked just now. You're good. Toss him over whenever you want.
And rats. You know what, I forgot to put down a fifth specialty: 'Mechanic'. This one is something of a cross between a technician and a crasher. They build bots. I only remembered because I am writing one up and went to check some info and it isn't there. I swear I put it in during one of my last edits... ah, My bad.
I made minor adjustments to my sheet, mostly tweaking Kane's second artifact to an imagery that I feel better fits the setting. Another question for you @RyuShura, are there Relics that change the user implementing its commands? I was thinking of a Relic that would temporarily boost the users speed or stength immensely for a duration of time, obviously with a cool down. I wouldn't want my character to have it at the start but I like the concept.
Most of a Cipher CS done, hopefully it makes some sense. :3
"Truth can only be found in one place: the code."
NAME:
Sophia
CODENAME:
Summoner / Knower of Names
AGE:
~24 years old (~15 year as a diver)
APPEARANCE:
Sophia has a slender, elfin build, and a decidedly otherworldly appearance. She has freckled, light brown skin and brilliant violet eyes, that only shine with interest when she's gazing into the code of the Hieracon. She keeps her hair perceptually shoulder length and colored a gentle shade of blue, although it's clear that the color of her hair is not the result of any coloring dye.
While Spohia is unmarked by any ink or identifiable scars, she has had a septum piercing for as long as anyone can remember.
The young Cipher is impractical dresser at the best of times, favoring beautiful sweeping dresses, intricate long skirts, pretty blouses, and generally anything that would seem impractical or far too formal for a diver to wear. Somehow, even mysteriously, her fashion sense does not appear to impede her movements through the Eclipse Zone.
If absolutely necessary, Sophia can be convinced to wear something boring and plain, such as pants.
SPECIALITY:
Cipher
TALENTS/SKILLS
"To call up a demon you must learn its name. Men dreamed that, once, but now it is real in another way. You know that, Sophia. Your business is to learn the names of programs, the long formal names, names the owners seek to conceal. True names . . ."
TECHNOMANCER "You don't get it, sir, she doesn't just understand the Hieracon, she's connected to it somehow." "T- That's not possible." "I know, it shouldn't be, but it is. Look at these readings, look at the pattern in the code, it's changing, she's changing it." "Apothos protect us!"
➜ Extended exposure to the Abyss has changed Sophia at the very core of her being and she has developed a powerful connection to the Hieracon and any ancient machinery that still runs on it.
ANALYTICAL MIND "Look, she may be crazy, but her mind is sharp, real sharp, just give her a puzzle, and you'll see what I mean."
➜ Sophia possess an uncanny ability to logically analyze information and to deduce solutions to complex problems.
CODESLINGER "Hmmm...this is interesting, very interesting, it's some of the oldest Hieracon I've ever seen. Where did you find it?" "Don't worry about that, just tell me, can you figure out what it means?" "No, this is way above my pay grade, friend." "Shit. Know anyone else?" "Ask Sophia, the Summoner...if anyone can tell you, it's her."
➜ Sophia has a remarkable gift for interpreting complex glyphs and deciphering lines of Hieracon code that leave even the most talented of Ciphers puzzled.
EIDETIC MEMORY "Alright, Miss Know-It-All! What's the one hundred thirty-second word of the Codex Historia?" "Eldritch." "She's right!" "Saviors. I can't believe it. How could she remember?" "I told you...but you wouldn't listen." "Yeah, yeah, I know, just take the ration and shut it."
➜ Perhaps as a result of her particularly strange neural structure, Sophia has a prodigious memory and can instantly recall facts, dates, numbers, or anything else she has seen or heard.
SPEED READING "How long will it take you to read that code!?" "Look, Jon, relax, it's going to take her some time to open the door, there's thousands of line of Hieracon to check..." "We don't have time! Those monsters are going to-" "Done." "What?" "I'm finished, we can go now."
➜ Sophia can read text and code at a rate that seems positively inhuman, a trait that serves her well in her capacity as a Cipher.
EQUIPMENT:
➜ Ultralight Diver Harness (exo-rig w/ grapple lines, torch, and Echo-box) ➜ A Broken Pocket-watch (Gold) ➜ A Blue Umbrella
:LINKS
SUMMONER LVL III ➜ Sophia has carried this particular relic with her for some years. Retrieved from a long forgotten tomb in the Eclipse Zone, she has since modified the relic via her Cipher ability, making it capable of summoning not just one but several ethereal entities to do her bidding.
PERSONALITY:
CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT "Do you think there are any more relics behind that door?" "I don't know Sophia, but we're not here to find out." "Why not? It wouldn't take me long to open it." "This was a military base, that's a blast door, I don't want to find out what War-Forged monstrosity is waiting behind it." "Why not? Don't you want to know?"
➜ Sophia is curious, especially about anything related to the ancient ancestors, and she's willing to do almost anything to satisfy this curiosity.
LESS THAN SOCIAL "Talk is cheap. Show me the code."
➜ Sophia, like many Ciphers, is not always the most social of people, and generally prefers the company of clever lines of code.
RECKLESS "Get down, Sophia!" "I have to get to the terminal!" "YOU IDIOT! GET ON THE GROUND! THEY'RE SHOOTING AT US!" "But the terminal-" "What goods the terminal if you're dead?" "I have to know, I have to know what's on there, I can hear it, speaking to me, it wants me to save it." "What!?"
➜ In pursuit of ancient technology, information or Hieracon, Sophia is completely and utterly reckless, seemingly untouched by fear or any concern for her own safety.
BOUTS OF MADNESS "Yes, that shade of blue is quite lovely." "Ummm...Sophia? Who are you talking to?" "An old friend." "Sophia, dear, there's no one here." "Beatrix, don't be ridiculous, just because you can't see him doesn't mean he's not real."
➜ Long talks with what appear to be imaginary friends is generally frowned upon once one is older than twenty, Sophia, however, doesn't appear to pay this social norm much mind.
EMPATHETIC "Here." "What is it?" "It's a relic, I altered it, it's better now." "Thanks?" "Sell it. It should be enough to buy you a new arm."
➜ For a Cipher, Sophia is oddly good at understanding the feelings and thoughts of other people. Most of the time, this only means that she can avoid undue attention, but on occasion Sophia will actually show genuine kindness to those around her, a rarity among Ciphers.
SHORT HISTORY:
"My past is the Hieracon, my present is the Hieracon, and my future is the Hieracon...all else is an illusion."
Born in a bustling trading port of the Sprawling City, Sophia has long since forgotten the faces of her parents and siblings, much less the name of the unremarkable settlement that spawned her. Of her early life, she remembers precious little, save for the smell of baking bread and the ballad of an ancient bard.
Sophia manifested her powers as a Cipher at an early age, but when exactly, she doesn't remember, time, time has precious little meaning to those attuned to the mysteries of the Hieracon. However, her earliest memories are of the Eclipse Zone and the strongest are inseparable from her memories of the Hieracon. She has been a diver, both sanctioned and unsanctioned for most of her life, unquestioningly accepting any job that will allow her to once more venture into the heart of the Eclipse Zone, no matter the risk, no matter the price, and no matter the punishment.
With each dive Sophia seems to lose a little bit more of herself to the arcane code of the ancestors and she returns a little bit less human each time. She has survived, but she has changed, and she continues to change with each step she takes deeper into the Abyss.
MISCELLANEOUS:
To understand, to not just see, but to truly understand the source code of the Hieracon requires a great sacrifice, not of riches or gold, but of the mind, and perhaps of the soul eternal. Sophia, like all other Ciphers, has already paid this heavy price, and the very neuronal connections of her brain have been forged for one purpose, for one singular, maddening goal, to understand the arcane symbols and ancient code of the Hieracon.
Divorced from the reality of mundane humans, Sophia lives in a world of her own choosing, holding animated discussions with enigmatic entities that no one else can perceive, much less communicate with or understand, and losing herself in the language of a long dead civilization. Retaining some of her humanity, Sophia can, to the surprise of many, nonetheless gets along well with other people and she is capable of passing for a neurotypical human, at least for a time. However, she rarely engages with other human beings, apart from when it is absolutely necessary, as she finds them, on average, to be far less talented conversationalists than the cryptic creatures of her mind.
Sophia has an obsession with discovering and recording the the true names of other beings, believing that knowledge of the true name of any creature will give her power over them. When left to her own devices, she often recites, barely above a whisper, the long list of names she has collected to herself. Many if not most of these names are clearly human in nature, but others make little sense and sound...wrong...very wrong...as if they were words never intended for human beings to speak to begin with.
@Avice Psshh. 'Mostly Done'. What can I say? It's good. Very good. From the looks of things, you're still working on the extra appearance stuff. After you're done, feel free to add it to the list.
Isaac stands 6’3” and weighs roughly 200 Lbs. of strong able bodied man. He keeps his dark brown hair short but scruffy and normally has some facial hair but tries to keep it shaved. He has several long scars across his body from both diving accidents and from injuries suffered on the streets. His appearance like most is rough, for example the old trench coat he wears is torn and stitched in several places with the odd bit of metal here and there for armor.
Personality:
To say Isaac is a bit protective isn’t entirely correct, he has a heart of gold when it comes to orphan children and is protective of them and those few he considers friends. However, he will be friendly towards others but will hold off on calling them friends till he feels they are worth trying to spend time on being friends. He can be quiet at times or very vocal, normally he won’t try to take control of a group or anything but will be pushy to make sure he gets his fair share.
Specialty: Crasher
Talents/Skills:
No like this it’s easier this way: Isaac is a natural engineer and tinkerer, normally finding new and more efficient ways for things to work, build, or repair. This allows him to add to, repair, and swap out components on his armor to make the most of a Catalyst.
“As long as it works, I don’t care if it looks good”
Magpies of the outer ring: The orphans he cares for and trains, to steal and scavenge, often bring him strange things. Most things are junk or just look cool to the kids, but occasionally they bring him something good or something he can use with his things.
“Magpies adore shiny things”
Been on my knees 6 but gotten up 7 times: he can get hit and keep going, his suit and even himself is modified to be strong and resilient and normally can take a few good hits before faltering. This is not to say he’s invincible, he just has grater pain tolerance than most and the things he builds can weather the storm.
“This is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.”
To hell and back: Isaac has a knack for keeping his composure in even the worst situations, whether it be during an interrogation or in the middle of a bloody shootout. You can count on him to keep a level head and keep everyone as safe as he can.
“Aiming for heaven though serving in hell”
Equipment:
Basic Gear: - Basic medical kit. You know just in case. - Extra food rations. Tries to get the unflavored ones, all you have to get over is the texture. - Water collection unit. Dehydration ain't no joke. - Repair and armor modification kit. Sometimes things wear out or something better comes along. - Echo-box modified. Works better in the helmet. - Hand held welder and plasma cutter. For those hard to get through areas.
Unique Gear:
the suit works as a suit of armor pared with a harness, not as heavy as a power suit but light and strong enough to be a good fit for an illegal diver.
Specific Modifications: - Armored catalyst back pack. The power source that brings life to the whole deal. - 4 shoulder mounted torches. - Air purification system. A gas mask that takes out most pollutants if any exists and notify the wearer of any abnormal airborne substances. - Exoskeleton support system. An array of assisted mechanical servos and joints to assist the wearer with movement and strength. - Auto tint lenses. To block out harmful radiation when welding. - Integrated Exo-Rigg with stronger tension scaling wires to support the user while climbing. Weapons: - Climbing ax’s, used both offensively and as an aid while climbing he’s very handy with them. - Damaged arcane pistol, it would do more damage if it wasn’t damaged itself and it needs to charge before every shot but at least he doesn’t need to worry about ammo. - Collapsible shield, the shield although riddled with damage is very useful when it comes to protecting oneself and it collapses into a neat long piece of metal that fixes itself very nicely to the back.
Short History: Growing up wasn’t that interesting for him, grew up in an orphanage after his mother disappeared and his father died while diving. He grew up with the other orphans, fought with them, struggled with them, laughed with them, and lived with them. Eventually when he turned 15 he began to drop down into the eclipse, divers they were called. Sometimes sanctioned but mostly it wasn’t. He did this for a good reason, he was running an orphanage with the other orphans he called his family, and he was the major bread winner in their broken and jarred family. This isn’t something he tells a lot of people, and they try to stay neutral with all the local gangs while teaching the orphans they house about how to live and survive on the streets.
Misc: He tends to collect anything that can be used as a toy for the kids or if it’s something he thinks they might like. It should also be noted that the children he takes care of refer to him as Papa bear.
Oooh I freakin love the dark, cyberpunk fantasy, Made in Abyss vibe going on here it's beautiful! And the quality and dedication! I'll reserve this post spot for a CS later if you're still open, at work atm.
@Excal Thanks! I appreciate the compliment. Ah. I think there is still one person from the OOC who has yet posted a character. If you want, you can submit a character idea. Nothing like a full sheet. Just an idea. Maybe, if it comes down to it. I'll pick the best ideas out of them.
@RyuShura Mmm, right now I'm trying fully take in and understand all the details of your wonderfully dark world. I really like it so far! I actually had a similar idea, though it was more near-apocalypse steampunk hextech/too much magic factories causing planet instability kinda thing.
So far I've got a few char ideas.
1) A STALKER (the movie and game series) esque character who worships the Abyssal zones/ancient tech and has a fanatical/adrenaline like compulsion/addiction to go out, demanding reverance and respect from his companions for the old tech. Class Artificer.
2) A 'Doll' ex-sanctioned diver who had a terrible mental/physical confrontation in the abyss with some unknown monster, who after recovery changed from a cheery action girl to an emotionless ghost whose only desire is to, for some reason, return to her previous spot of trauma. She was able to afford jacks and took off so much flesh that she became a 'Doll' (what you mentioned), and was so obsessed that they cut her off from her license for puttting others in danger, so now she tries illegal means. Probably Technician.
3) Similar to the idea above, except more combat grizzled. A magistrate officer or witch hunter who was obsessed with catching the one criminal who always outsmarted her, leading to a recent illegal abandoning of her post to persue said criminal beyond the walls.
4) A soft spoken, kind Alchemist whose actually deeply voyeristic/curiosiry obsessed, nonmalicious but has a deep desire ro know "secrets" by any means. One day he sought to access the Blackdatabase and whatever he found gave him a deep religious vision, which has now propelled him to cross the Abyss to the strange Spire with the flowing ocean above.
@Excal Damn. You're good at this. Nah, that's enough I need to see. You're in. Uh, pick whatever you think is most interesting and would add a nice dynamic twist to the already established cast.
And your world idea sounds interesting too! Mine just came from a stem of wanted something more 'Grand' and 'Metaphysical', something daunting and complex by which to challenge myself. I think it has a nice medley of ugly and beautiful.
@Excal You got the basic ideas, I'd just like to add in a few extra details.
Crasher/Launchers specialize in high-powered technology. But not 'Advanced'. This usually ends up with big weapons, lower end power armor, etc. So yeah, they're weapon specialists. But they are often tanks too.
Artificers/Collectors - yeah pretty much.
Ciphers - Yeah, this is a good way of putting it. Technically, anyone having enough knowledge of Hieracon can use :links, so it makes sense these people can too. But because of their mutation, they have to carry less to avoid detection. Did I put that in there? I'll check later.
Techs - I see them in as more technical and practical, in terms of machinery at least, than Artificers/Collectors. Because they usually have some form of modded body replacement, they are not as restricted to cool downs. Obviously, they don't have the vast amount of options that :links provide, as a result.
I added in a new class recently the 'Mechanic' - Basically a cross between a techy and a crasher/launcher, who handles robots. Pretty simple.
Having looked over the team dynamic so far, we appear to need a priest/heart/idealist char, and to make sure this works, another question:
Are ciphers the only bizarre "Witches" or are there other abilities/mutations?
And how free is the ability potential of the links? Do we assume standard magic abilities or do we assume a cut off at, say, time distortion or mind reading or life syphoning and that kind of stuff.
Witches are a rather new phenomena. Their mutation, or whatever it is, has somehow also eluded the system. But the difference, is that whatever changed about them grants these people powerful, wild abilities. As I eluded a few times, a witch/warlock is what caused the collapse of District 26. It is hard to tell whether it was one alone, or many, that caused so much havoc. But that should be enough of a tell. These folks are a real threat to the current society. 'Magic' as it were, is seen as the reason the world was nearly destroyed in the first place.
Yeah, nothing that crazy. If the ancestors could control time, they wouldn't be gone. Maybe artifacts might have some pretty crazy effects, but these are just relics. Not to say they are weak, by any stretch of the imagination.
