Nyte looked down to her missing leg. "So I am, wanderer, so I am..." After a moment of deliberation, she pulled off her left arm at the shoulder. "There we are. Now I'm all right."

She snickered and looked to the old man that had just entered the scene. She jammed her arm back into place and walked closer, as if her left boot were still in place. "Excuse me, um, sir! It would appear your home has ventured far from the village. Was it out of control? The legs were too weak, unfortunately!"

She leaned over to Sunny and whispered loudly to her. "I bet he's some kind of mad scientist." She nodded at the vagrant, then straightened, remembering the point of this... quest...?

"Oh yes, sir! Um! Would you mind trading your set of armor with mine? And, uh, contacting Occurro for repairs, or, uh, something?"

The forest-guardian's arm simply popped off, and Sunny's jaw dropped. "WAAA?! No way!" While Nyte spoke with the old man on the porch, Sunny (with Laphi still balanced, slumped, against her shoulders) rushed over to peer into the armor's arm-socket. "You're empty!' she gasped. Sunny banged her knuckles on the hollow armor, mystified.

The old man, meanwhile, didn't react at all to Nyte's state of dismemberment -- in fact, it was doubtful he could see any more than the blurry shapes of his visitors.

"Heh? My armor? This hunk o' junk?" the old man called feebly. "Are you the ones who stopped my house?"

"Definitely a mad scientist," Sunny agreed confidentially with Nyte.

"I've been tossed and tumbled for four days," the man continued. "I just want off this crazy ride. It's not worth it. I don't care what my son says, I don't care what anyone says, I don't need any fancy tosser of a house. I like my feet on the ground. Can you git me down? Help me down offer this thing, you kin have the whole mess. I'm jess gonna walk home, I'd like ter walk home. My son made this thing and he gave it to me and he says it's some wonderful thing that'll make my life easy, never gotta leave my house, well guess what I'm leavin' and I'm not goin' back in that crazy thing, not if ya paid me, kin ya help me down and I'll gift ya the armor and the full pantry and the whole dang demon-house --"

"Did you say there's food in there?" Sunny piped suddenly, after having tuned out most of what the old man had just said. With renewed interest she rushed over to Nyte. "'Scuse me, forest-guardian? Would you mind holding onto Laphi for a minute?" She hefted Laphicet up for Nyte to take care of him while Sunny rushed and scrambled to assist the old man to the ground.

"If yer hungry," the old man went on while he leaned on Sunny, "there's salted fish and a couple rabbits in the bottom cupboard, and two new loaves of bread, and stacks of potatoes, carrots, plenty of beans -- have at it, you people as much saved my life, I never want to see this thing again, it'll be too soon if I never do..."

"W-well, I'm n-not sure what I did to offend you, wanderer, for you to insult me like that..." She muttered sadly (and very sarcastically), fixing her arm back into place. "I can be a bit hollow-headed at times, I suppose..."

She looked back up to the old man, and gave him a nod to confirm. "These vagrants helped greatly, sir! I believe their names were... um... Sunny and Laphi?" She looked down at the pair questioningly, towering over them in her height, then glanced back to the old man. "Thank you sir!! I'd love a new set of armor, this set is slightly shorter than I'm used to!"

She looked back to Sunny after her outburst about food, and hoped that her helmet did a good job of showing just how incredulous her expression would be. "H-hold on?"

Nyte nodded hesitantly, taking the pale child from the vagrant and holding him carefully but naturally. She muttered something to herself and pulled the sleeping boy a bit closer to her chest, treating him like a precious vase. The knight sighed and looked down at the boy, ignoring her surroundings for a few moments to merely watch his cat ears flick gently in his sleep.

"There's a joke about cats and napping I can make here..." She mumbled, looking down at the peaceful child. "But it would probably ruin the moment..."

Shaking her head, Nyte carried Laphicet close to the porch and looked up at the new set of armor, shining in the light of the newly risen sun. The sounds of the forest were reserved, only an occasional rush of wind making the twisted trees shake, and the silence was nearly deafening after the terribly loud stumbling of the man's house.

Laphicet had been sleeping peacefully for the most part. He could feel his body moving around, but his eyes wouldn't open no matter how hard he tried.

All he wanted to do was sleep...and he would have remained so if it weren't for Nyte's shining new armor reflecting in his eyes. At first, it wasn't much of a problem, but after a while, it caused the silver haired boy to stir. Ears twitching before flattening against his head, ruby eyes fluttered opened. Laphi stared blankly into space for a moment, his eyes unconsciously focused on the 'forest guardian'...wait, forest guardian?!

Realization slowly formed in Laphi's dazed eyes, his skin becoming even paler than normal. His mouth slowly opened as if he was about to say something, but instead of word, a shrill cry escaped the child's lips.
"NYAHHHHHHHH!" The child screamed/meowed as he began to squirm in the knight's grasp. "LETMEGO! LETMEGO! LET! ME! GO!" He continued to shout angrily, almost on the verge of a tantrum. Did Sunny leave him behind with the forest guardian? What happened?

The child could barely think straight as he attempted to push away from Nyte, small hands prying hastely at the hollow armor in hopes that he might be able to get free.

Nyte squeaked as the boy in her arms cried out, and held him tightly as he started to squirm, not wanting him to fall and hurt his head. "C-calm down! Your mother is right inside, you're safe, I'm not going to hurt you!"

She started to lower him to the ground carefully even as he struggled. "My name is Nyte, and I am no monster, just another vagrant," she explained as she set him down and backed away nervously. "So please don't worry! I am rather good with children, so, um, your mother made the right choice! She's getting you food right now!"

She coughed into her fist, rubbing her helmet and looking up to the new set of armor still latched to the porch. "I will not hurt you, Laphi...? I promise."

Visions of a hesitant orphan and better days flashed through Nyte's vision, and she sighed, pulling herself up onto the porch to inspect the new set closely.

Laphicet continued to move in the knights grasp. He thought that with enough movement he might be able to set himself free. Unfortunately for him, Nyte's attempts to calm him down only made him embarrassed and squirm even more. A bright pink blush dusted the boy's pale cheeks as his ears flattened harder against his head. Although he was relieved to hear that Sunny didn't completely abandon him, hearing this forest guardian refer to Sunny as his mother was too embarrassing for him to handle; at that point Laphi was more than prepared to hide under a rock for the rest of his life.

Finally, after enough struggling, Laphicet was put down and he backed away at the same time that Nyte had. He clutched his tarot cards tightly to his chest as he watched the knight move and speak, his ears twitching every time Nyte moved. And although he didn't respond to anything Nyte said, his eyes followed the girl as she made her way up onto the porch, probably to get a better look at the armor they were assigned to get her.

...Wait a second...

Curiosity getting the better of him, Laphicet struggled to get himself up the porch. He stood quite a bit away from the hollow knight and was silent for the most part...that is, until he gathered enough courage to say something.
"...Wh-Why do you lie to Sunny?" The child kept his tarot cards in hand in case the knight did anything funny. "You're not a f-forest guardian." He continued, lowering his head in the process.

"She's not?" Sunny poked her head over the porch banister and draped her elbows over it. The old man was still below, in an argument with a fairy over who had been driving the runaway house. Sunny had abandoned them to sort out their differences on their own.

Instead, she stared curiously between Laphicet and the mysterious not-a-forest-guardian, a small grin on her face. "Well, you definitely look like a forest-guardian. You could probably be one if you wanted to. But Laphi!" she suddenly shouted, her grin beaming. She hoisted herself up higher, eager to tell him the story.

"You teleported! We were right down there, then we were up there, in an instant!" she flung her hands in the air for drama, nearly losing her balance in the process. "That's impossible and amazing! And then! You didn't see, we were trapped up here on the porch with no way down, and you," she patted Nyte's hollow armor, "ran right underneath the house, right into all those mechanical legs, I lost sight of you and thought for sure you'd be crushed -- but instead you brought the whole thing down. You didn't get a scratch, did ya?" She held a hand out to Nyte by way of introduction. "Since you're not a forest-guardian, I guess it's okay to introduce myself. I'm Sunny. This is Laphicet. We're vagrants, on our way to Occurro. Know how we can get there?"

Sunny looked from Laphi to Nyte and back again, then leaned close to whisper in Laphi's ear. "I think she likes you."

"Lie?" She asked the child, tiling her head and looking back at him. "I'm a vagrant. Your mother did call me a forest guardian when she handed you to me, but I had assumed that was because she didn't know my name..."

Suddenly, Sunny appeared! Nyte looked to her. "I do enjoy forests, and guarding things!"

She then looked between the two vagrants as Sunny ranted about their awesomeness, then looked down as her armor was patted. "W-well, I probably got a scratch or two, I suppose..."

"O-oh, um, Nyte. Just Nyte. Nyte the Knight, heh." She said sheepishly, reaching out to shake her hand. "Occurro is just west of here, and I'd guess the path of this house would lead us to it. It's wonderful to meet you both!"

As Sunny moved to whisper something to the child, Nyte wandered over to the set, awkwardly tossing each part over the railing before hopping down to change her armor out of view. It would be a hassle for the old man to have to hang up or get rid of her old set from his porch, after all.

She stretched her new armor, silver coated and shining in the rising sunlight, then strapped her old sword to her belt and gave herself a thumbs up for some reason. She jumped back onto the porch moments after having left.

The boy stared warily at the other, furrowing his brows faintly at her response. If that was the case, then why act like one? As he was about to question the knight again, Laphicet's attention was brought over to Sunny. He was a bit surprised to see that Sunny was rather forgiving, despite both of their lives being put in danger in order to complete this 'request', but nothing surprised him more than said girl shouting his name. Flinching back a bit, Laphicet nodded slowly when Sunny mentioned his teleportation.
"...Y-Yeah..." Was all the child could mutter out as Sunny kept going on, and her story became more and more surreal.

So it was Nyte that managed to stop the mechanical beast in its tracks? All by herself? Now feeling a little bit guilty for yelling at her and accusing her of lying even though she pretty much saved their lives, Laphi bowed slightly, now staring at the ground.
"U-Um, thank you..." He muttered, practically under his breath before standing straight again, his eyes never leaving the ground, even as introductions continued and information was traded. It was only when Sunny whispered something into his ear that he spared her a glance. "She d-does?" He questioned, as he looked back at Nyte to see that she changed armor. "Wh-Why do you think so?" He followed up, now giving Sunny a confused look.

"We're that close to Occurro?!" Sunny hollered, her jaw dropped -- and she burst into a laugh. "This must be it! Laphi! There's something here we need on our way to Whistlehowl! We made it, and we didn't even know it!" She laughed again and leaped up onto the porch, exhilarated by the knowledge that pure fate had brought them where they needed to go, and had the star-map spread out between her hands. They could cross off another point -- if only they could determine what, exactly, they were supposed to collect. She sat down with a flop and frowned at the crinkled map. "Maybe this walking house is supposed to be our new transport. But it's broken, and really too big for the roads, and Nyte said it wasn't even balanced right to begin with. Sounds like more trouble than it's worth, ya think? I dunno anything about making a house walk." Maybe if it was a flying house she'd have a very different opinion, but she wasn't thrilled about running around knocking down trees and other people's houses. She smirked at the thought.

She raised her head and glanced back -- Nyte hadn't returned yet from wherever she'd disappeared to -- then leaned closer to Laphi to whisper: "She obviously likes you 'cause she knows all the cat puns!" She gave him a grin and a wink just as Nyte returned, glinting, with a resounding strike and ring of new armor. The sunlight brightened against her; she looked almost like she was glowing.

"Whoa, Nyte! You're shiny!" Sunny hopped to her feet and jammed the map in her pocket again. "C'mon, let's eat! Either of you good at cooking?"

Together they could rummage through the stores in the ruined house to discover the hidden food supplies. Sunny threw some of the broken pieces of furniture into the stove and set them alight; after a pan was found among the wreckage, and some butter among the food stores, soon a nice meal was frying and sizzling over the fire. A blanket was spread on the tilted floor, two unbroken bowls found, and soon Sunny and Laphi each had a heaping, fresh hot lunch of salted fish and potatoes and carrots.

"I'm after the Whistlehowl Star," Sunny explained to Nyte over lunch. She produced the crumpled star-map and handed it to the knight. "The brightest star in the sky and the biggest legend in history. We're gonna find it, and we're gonna be an even bigger legend than Whistlehowl ever was. But to get there, we have to follow Shambler's Dragon -- the stars in the constellation are points on the map. The first point was where Laphi and I met, and we found that map. The second is right here where we are now. So after this, we're on our way to Rymoln Wood." Her grin turned smug. "You should come with us!"

Nyte waved to Sunny, hand on her hip. "It's just my bright personality, actually," she drawled as she stepped closer, then stopped when Sunny suggested eating. "Oooo, I can cook a decent cabbage! Though I'm not much of a fan... It goes right through me."

Coughing at the joke and trying not to snicker, she quickly shook her helm and marched into the ruined house through the front door, bounding from the pantry to the cabinets and back looking for food. She found loads of canned foods alongside Sunny, like beans and fish and carrots and tomatoes and potatoes! She set out the blanket while one of the others cooked.

"Oh, I'm not hungry," she said quickly, "so make sure to give little Laphi here extra! He probably likes fish."

"Er, I mean, maybe. N-no particular reason I'd think that," she apologized to the boy immediately, then plopped onto the wooden floor loudly. As the two started to eat, she looked between the two vagrants fondly. Before she could ask what they had been doing in the forest, Sunny produced an intriguing map!

"The Whistlehowl Star... Would you perhaps mean the legend of the Coterie ship in the sky...?" she muttered, carefully taking the map from the girl and looking at it closely. "Rymoln Wood, hm? I don't think I've ever been there, but then again, I wood not remember the name of a random forest I've passed through!"

She coughed.

"I'd love to come with, if you'll have me! Perhaps the thing you acquired here was my set... Oh!"

She unwrapped the iron-studded belt from her hip, setting it down and unsheathing her sword. It shone brightly even in the dimly lit inside of the destroyed home, the long blade etched with ancient runes and the edges obviously worn from countless battles... Or perhaps it was used as a walking stick far too much. "What is a legend without a blade? I've no use for this, nor do I even really know how to use it, but it's been with me for a long time. Maybe this is what you needed here?"

Despite how stone faced the child was, Laphicet gave the dark haired girl a nod of acknowledgment. He was glad that Sunny's wish was slowly being realized; that's all that really mattered her him at this point.
"Doubt it. I-It's broken too, l-like you said. It's probably something e-else..." He stuttered, his eyes stealing a quick glance to Nyte before looking back at Sunny, who was now very close, whispering into one of his ears which he quickly flattened. "Th-That's not a good reason at all!" He whisper yelled, falling silent when Nyte returned.

When asked if he could cook, Laphicet shook his head slowly. Most of the food he ate was given to him by the ones who guarded him from the outside. He opted to mostly watch the food being made, turning away when Sunny lit the fire.

Before he knew it, there was food ready for everyone. Nyte had declined any food, which was fine with Laphi until she continued with the cat stereotyping, in which he glared intensely at the knight as if looks could kill.

He minded his own business as Sunny talked about the Whistlehowl Star and even offered Nyte to join them. He was a little bit put off by the gesture, but knowing that the knight was strong made him overrule his original thoughts of the set of armor.

When Nyte pulled out her blade, Laphicet nearly choked on his food from shock. It took a set of body shaking coughs for the child to regain his composure, and once he did, he pulled out a tarot card and placed it beside the sword.
"...They have the same...symbols on them." He pointed out before gazing at the map deeply. What was it trying to make them collect exactly? Items with the same runes on them, or was it just a coincidence? The boy furrowed his brows in defeat, unsure of what to make of the whole thing.

To hear a reference to the coterie ship in the sky coming from the shiny hollow armor of their newest strange friend was a wonderful moment for Sunny. She raised her bowl in cheers -- this picnic in good company, on the scraped and lopsided floor of a ruined house on broken metal legs. She tilted her bowl to drink the brothy oil at the bottom, and nearly choked on a laugh at Nyte's latest pun.

But it was Nyte's decision to join their coterie that brought a big grin to Sunny's face. "Yes!" she hissed through grinning teeth, a fist pumped. Nyte was so strange and unique, with a power enough to stop a runaway house in its tracks -- but the most important thing was her honesty and her kindness. Someone who seemed to like company so much -- who cared so much -- couldn't be left behind in those lonely woods. Only the best, the most amazing, for Sunny's coterie.

The presentation of the sword cast a breathless spell on the chaos of the house. Sunny's eyes grew wide, and she put down her bowl while she crawled closer on all fours, until the shine of the blade reflected on her mystified face. A choking noise snapped her attention back to Laphi, who -- until he had pulled out his tarot -- looked as if he'd seen a ghost.

After Laphicet's explanation, all three had fallen to staring at the sword and the card and the map of Shambler's Dragon.

"Something profound is at work here," Sunny said quietly, quoting something her mother often said. She released a slow breath, smiled, and climbed steadily to her feet. She looked to Laphicet and to Nyte, having barely met them but so proud to know them.

She extended a hand to Nyte with a confident smile. "Nyte. Welcome to the coterie. Together we're gonna be legends." She then reached down to help Laphi up -- and was suddenly filled with a giddy energy. "Pack all the supplies you can!" she told them both, already rushing to rummage through the piles and to open the cupboards and doors. "Food, clothes, blankets, kindling! It's a long way to Rymoln Wood!"

When, after a long while of sorting and packing and eating their fill, the coterie was ready to go, they would find the old man and the fairies had all gone. All that was left was a curled note, pinned to a tree by a sewing needle. It read, in flowing script:

we may meet again
in the city of smoke

The birds warbled and squeaked all around; a fragrant breeze rustled in the trees, dappling the ground in moving sunlight. The twisted branches arched overhead, while a rainbow of little flowers blossomed at their roots. Sunny rushed ahead with a laugh -- leading the way onward, to the next star in the constellation.

Laphicet placed a hand on his chin, deep in thought. Was this some kind of clue? A way of picking out what needed to be collected? If so, why his tarot cards? They were just a "gift" from a mother he hadn't seen in years, right? Why entrust him with something so important and them lock him up? Was it to keep the cards safe? Or maybe just add on to his suffering?

Multiply questions reeled through the boy's head as he tried to make sense of what he was seeing. It was only when he felt himself being hoisted up to his feet that he snapped out of his thoughts and looked up at Sunny, who asked them to grab as much stuff as they could and get ready to leave.

Choosing to busy himself with that, Laphicet got to work, checking mostly the bedrooms for blankets and clothes; most of which he would have to tailor to his size.

They had finished in no time and were about to head out, only to see that the old man from before and the fairies left. Ears twitching curiously, Laphi followed the others and moved up to his tippy toes to get a better read of the script. It was small, but gave them information that could be helpful for them in the future.

As Sunny lead them to their next location, Laphicet couldn't help but stare at the runes that lined his tarot cards, wondering mostly about what would happen if all the items were brought together. Knowing that he shouldn't worry too much about it now, Laphicet got to work on making the newest addition feel more welcome, much like Sunny had did for him, by wrapping a hand around two of Nyte's fingers; we wouldn't want the newbie getting lost, now would we?

Nyte looked to the card in silence, the ruined house suddenly as silent as the forest around it. She waited a moment, then quietly nodded at Sunny's statement. Something was indeed at work here, and perhaps... Perhaps Nyte was meant to be a part of it, too. She glanced up at the extended hand, and to the smiling vagrant holding it out to her. Someone she'd met mere minutes earlier, and yet...

She took the hand and stood weightlessly, almost lifting herself up off of the lopsided, partially destroyed floor. "And you will be my captain," She replied easily, watching the two for a moment.

As she looked between the smiling young woman and the cautious child, she felt something she had not felt in a very long time. Silently looking out the window of the house and to the forest, she watched a violet flower petal flutter onto the windowsill. She clenched her fists and nodded to herself, and moved to gather up everything she could find, sneakily stuffing blankets, clothes, and cans of food inside her armor for later use.

After finally getting everything together, Nyte stood at the edge of the porch and watched the fog finally fade completely, life seeming to return as the sun rose higher and higher into the sky. It would be a long adventure ahead of her, she could tell, but with her sword, a sword she had been using for many years, matching the child's cards, perhaps... just maybe, she was destined to follow them, to become a legend greater than any other...

She followed her two new companions, friends, quickly, happy to help with whatever came their way in the future.

CHAPTER 3

Aro swung in the air, her only support being the vines wrapped around her feet. They were what got her in trouble in the first place. Lost in thought, like usual, she stumbled upon a trap. She really needs to pay better attention to her surroundings, especially if she was going to walk around in forests that were most likely enchanted.

Aro blew her black hair out of her eyes, only for it to fall back in front of her face. She could call for help and hoped someone heard her, but she didn't want to risk looking like a fool. So, she tried to sit up and reach her feet. After a few attempts and a lot of struggling, she finally got a grip on the vines. Aro was curled in a ball, twisting in the air.

Aro placed her hands on the knot that held the trap together. As soon as she tugged, the vines released. She flew towards the ground with a loud yelp, surprised at the sudden drop. She smashed against the ground, which was apparently hollow. Aro fell into the cave that was under the trap. She smacked the ground, the air being knocked out of her for the second time. The pale rocks fell around her, making small noises compared to the initial CRACK of her breaking the ground beneath her.

Aro groaned and rolled onto her side, her back aching from both falls. "Today..." She spoke through gritted teeth, "...is not my day."

----------

The ground coming apart at the seams was loud enough to reverberate throughout the entire forest. Birds flew away from the scene, afraid of a sudden Earthquake. Rabbits ran into their holes, nothing but black eyes looking out. It sounded like thunder, but there couldn't have been any, with the lack of rain. The forest quickly regained it's composure as the earth settled. The forest seemed to agree with Aro as she sat in a cave, pebbles puttering down from the collapsed roof. Today was not her day.

"There's got to be something here somewhere!" Sunny dodged a long-reaching flower and scrambled up the sloped side of a boulder to peer over it -- but there was nothing to see except the fluted white trunks of ferny trees, flowers the size of horses leaning sideways by their own weight, and curiously spiraled stone structures that shone like the night sky, looping up out of soft and squishy moss like statuesque serpents. The air here was thick with moisture and the pungent aromas of the heady flowers; sunlight filtered and flickered through the canopy, casting a golden dappled glow on the shifting grasses.

This was the place on the map -- their next destination, finally reached after days of hiking and hitching rides with friendly wagoners, camping under the stars or in a gracious farmer's barn. Finally -- their feet sore and the sun hot on their skin -- Rymoln Wood was all around them, but it occurred to Sunny that they had no idea what they were looking for.

"Helloooooo!" she called into the dense forest, hands around her mouth. Sunny turned suddenly, certain she'd just seen something move -- but there was only a tree. She was certain that tree hadn't been there a moment ago.

There was something about these woods that constantly felt out-of-place, but she never actually saw anything moving.

Sunny felt something tugging at her hair, and she waved away a little orange flitterdid -- pudgy, squeaky, buzzy things the size of dragonflies that liked to steal whatever they could get their tiny paws on. A lazy swarm of flitterdids had followed the coterie since they entered Rymoln Wood, and Sunny had warned her companions to keep close anything small and valuable.

There was no birdsong here -- no sound of toads or insects or wildlife. Apart from the flitterdids, there was little wildlife to be found at all -- just the hush and creak and rustle of the trees and flowers in the breeze. It was as if nothing lived here at all.

With a yelp, Sunny leaped suddenly while a stray vine snapped away from her feet. It would have caught her ankles if she'd been any less vigilant. "Watch where you step!" she called to Laphi and Nyte, and she stopped in a grove of spiral-stones to turn and check on the others. "Find anything yet? I get the feeling these woods are trying to catch us or eat us." The sentiment was said with a grin. "Is it just me or are these trees moving?"
*CRACK*

The trees shook and shuddered with a sound like the strike of lighting or the split of a gigantic egg; the ground beneath their feet shuddered from a sudden impact. The flitterdids scattered and zoomed in all directions, spooked. Sunny smiled wide. "There!" she shouted, speeding off in the direction of the great noise, crashing recklessly through the mossy brush. "This way!"

Meanwhile, Aro would find herself laying in soft pale grass, bathed in a pool of sunlight that only reached her through a new split crevice in the rock high above. All around her, wherever the sunlight didn't penetrate, was darkness -- but she would get the feeling, by the way the space smelled and the way sound echoed faintly whenever she moved, that she had stumbled into a cavern that was far more enormous than it at first appeared.

Should she explore the place where she had fallen, she might find that the grassy spot where she stood was only as big as the floor of a small cottage -- beyond that perimeter it dropped off suddenly into a dark abyss. She had been lucky to have fallen upon this little island of safety.

On one side, shadowed by the thick darkness, was the beginning of a precarious staircase that spiraled down ... and down.

Aboveground, Sunny skidded to a stop when she spotted the crevice in the ground; it was the shape of a hungry mouth, or a hollow eye, gaping dark among the heavy flowers and shifting trees. "Helloooo!" she called again -- this time, hopeful.

Nyte sighed, a branch Sunny had pulled back suddenly smacking the knight in the face and nearly sending her helmet flying off. This was not the first time this had happened during their long trek through the carnivorous woods, and it would certainly not be the last. Her armor, much less angular than her previous set, did well not to catch on any of the hanging vines or curiously large flowers.

"I'm sure we'll find what we're looking for eventually," Nyte responded brightly, wagging her finger before a flitterdid tried to pry it from her gauntlet. "I'm just slightly worried about what exactly it may be that we find here."

She waved her hand lazily, spooking the pudgy little creature from trying to steal her fingers. It had been a long journey, of course, and all for an unknown object, but the sights had been wonderful, and having a goal in mind was surprisingly much nicer than endless wandering. As her companion called out, just as she had to her in the forests outside Occurro, Nyte spotted a tree that hadn't been there the last time she looked...

"I miss the birds," Nyte muttered sadly to herself, holding her palm out for a flutterdid to rest on. "I wonder why it is that birds don't like this place?"
*CRACK*

Nyte froze for only a moment, watching her small buzzing friends fly away scared as the trees and ground shook from what must have been something very large falling over. She hoped whatever had fallen was okay! Nyte bolted after her companion, armor surprisingly quiet compared to her old, clanking set she wore previously, but she made sure Laphi did not fall behind.

"Holy moly," she muttered as Sunny came to an abrupt stop in front of a crevice. "Was that the noise...?"

The greeting reverberated through the cavern, making Aro's ears ache along with her back. It took her a moment to realize that the noise came from a person and not some horrible creatures cry.

Aro rolled on her back, the sun hitting her eyes. "Yeah?" Aro groaned. She didn't really want to talk, feeling foolish and angry about what had happened. Plus, talking meant moving, and she wasnt quite up for that. She painfully moved her arm over her eyes, blocking the sun.

"I uh," Aro thought about whether or not she wanted to admit what had happened to a stranger. She figured she was in too deep now.

"I'm in quite the precarious position," Aro rolled her head back onto the soft grass, her arm still on her face. "Moving doesn't seem like an option right now. I uh, fell and landed on my back. Twice." Everything hurt, but she didn't want to move anything. She didn't want to talk anymore, she didn't even really want to breathe.

"Some help would be greatly appreciated."

It took days for the trio to reach the next star on the map. Unfortunately Laphicet couldn't say they were the best past days of this journey. Hiking to hitching rides, and even sleeping in a barn of all places! He could barely keep up.

The air was making him sneeze and his nose stuffy while the squishy ground didn't help with his sore feet. His clothes were getting dirty, especially his socks, and he knew he would have to change soon, but unfortunately for him, sewing while on a journey proved to take longer than he thought.

A heavy sigh escaped the silver haired boy's mouth as Sunny called out to nothing once again and flitterdids attempted to pull his ears off his head. It was annoying to say the least, especially since he was hot, bothered, and a little cranky; luckily his tarot cards were tucked away for safe keeping. When Sunny brought up that the forest was trying to possibly eat them, the boy couldn't help but flatten his ears to his head, resulting in some of the flitterdids backing off.
"E-Eat us?" Laphi repeated with a confused and slightly frightened look on his face. Most of the color on his face had drained away, except for his bright red cheeks which were because it was too hot.

Laphicet chose to let that thought leave his mind, and before he knew it, his attention was brought back to Nyte, who mentioned missing the birds.
"...I-I don't see why any animal would want to live here..." He groaned in response to Nyte. "It's hot, st-stuffy, and dirty..." He started complaining as he slowed down and moved behind Nyte to avoid any flora that wanted to come out of nowhere.

Before he had the chance to complain about anything else, a loud crack reverberated around the trio, causing Laphicet to yelp in surprise. He didn't have a hard time keeping his balance, however, it did take him a little to start running after the two girls that were rushing towards the noise. Any smart person would try to avoid it, but unfortunately for him Sunny and Nyte were the exact opposite.

The top of his head was burning, but his feet felt really cold, Laphicet thought as he finally caught up to the two, staring down at something Laphicet couldn't quite describe. Keeping his distance, the child stood behind Sunny and Nyte, listening quietly for any response to the prior's calls. Thankfully, his ears came in handy as he furrowed his brows a little worriedly.
"S-Someone's down there..." He whispered as his ears flattened back down again. "A-And they want help..." He continued, looking at Sunny to see what she would say. He didn't want to do something unless Sunny had taken the initiative.
