That much of a slog eh? Sorry, I guess the song I posted is a more typical song, probably not the best example of the genre.

Punk as a genre that is quite all similar to itself. Punk style vocals and lyrics often have a reliable amount of rebellion or angst, emotional content. I can't for the life of me find Punk Groups as musically avant-garde as Diablo Swing Orchestra or Igorrr. So it's something I'll stand on til the day I die. But metal is quite different from punk, especially nowadays. :P

Personally, For Me Metal Is One Of The Most Diverse Genres. Vocally And Lyrically. Often Because
It Has The Most Concept Songs, Themes Or Even Albums.

All of those songs sound different vocally, lyrically and nearly all have some unique instrument or genre mix, you won't find in the other. I feel like there's bound to be something you can like in this genre, with time. ^_^

5.5/10 Lyrically, it's okay but crafted well enough, vocally and musically very flat for me. Though I understand sometimes, people enjoy more subtle, less overblown punk.

Today I have mostly been listening to The Smiths and they sound unbelievable still, 30 years after they recorded amazing music.

@SleepingSilence 4/10. It was bland, but catchy at parts. Singer has a good voice though.

@Heat The drums were easily the highlight of the song for me. Everything else was good, but I definitely preferred the rhythm the drummer had. The vocalist was good too. The video itself, however, portrayed a touchy subject of rioting against injustice (at least that's what I gathered from it). Suffice to say it relates to what's going today with all of corruption and conpsiracies across the world. But that aside, a good showing of thrash. 8/10

My song is not at all close to the same genre as yours was, though, I hope you guys will enjoy it. Personally, it's a pretty chill track with a good vibe throughout.

@Heat I won't rate it, but I liked the you posted song too. Though the vocalist sounded like he was straining/hurting his voice. :P

@Altered Tundra 4/10 Now, I didn't dislike the track personally. Because I could see it as background music to fall asleep to. But I almost have like a sneaking suspicion, nearly anyone could have replicated the track...very minimalist/empty sounding, one whisper sung phrase without any vocal effects. (I tried looking up other things from the artist, one song he samples Daughter and while listening I'd probably rather just listen to Daughter.)

Okay, I'll actually try posting something good this time. Since my last track was radio music, let's go for the opposite of that.

@SleepingSilence 5/10. First off, damn an 11 minute song, second off didn't realize right away it was Christian music. Not normally the kind of music I listen to. The instruments were solid, I dug the little section towards the end where it instrument after instrument. Pipes were cool. I didn't like the singer's voice, and the song probably could've served being cut in half.


And now something that's pretty much the polar opposite in lyrical content.

@Heat Aw, that hurts a bit. Only an average song? I think pretty much everything makes that a pretty solid metal song. And yes I'm not usually overly fond of super long songs either. But you know, I feel like they don't waste much time or repeat themselves musically like most drawn out metal tends to. Even vocally, it has enough variety that it doesn't get stale. Black metal often absolutely suffers for this for me. (Unless the fact that it was christian was the reason for the rating? I mean it's not like I haven't seen that before, especially from those who actually enjoy metal. But it's a personal rating, so I guess maybe I should consider the 5 a good sign? :P)

7/10 Actually has a pretty decent, maybe slightly pretentious effort in song writing. But metal is bombastic it's allowed to get away with that and I can appreciate it. I enjoyed the one riff that repeated through the song. Musically have no real complaints. Vocalist reminded me a little bit of living sacrifice's vocalist? (albeit much weaker, probably the weakest part of the song.)

Okay, I just listened to this song. Reddit has giving me a glorious helping on music. Speaking of pipes and musical/vocal variety. Another album I need to listen to.

8/10. I like how the song keeps contrasting up and down, fast and slow, soft and loud without sounding discountinued and that really matches the lyrics. I mean, it is discontinuing, but it sounds right. The singer's voice is pleasant and the harmonies are great. And the song's theme... I really like songs that talk about how we're always so close yet so far from everyone around us due to our phones or technology in general. From Magritte's painting as the album cover and this song's lyrics, which I feel suit each other, I want to listen to the rest of it. I do feel like the stretched semitones could sometimes be a bit annoying, but in general, I loved it.

I've also found some interesting music on reddit before, it's certainly a good place to look for suggestions.
Your song kind of reminded me of Mumford & Sons (probably just because of the mandolin) and of Hozier (because of the nice lyrics? Don't know why...). So yep, here's a M&S song.

Oh Mumford. Whatever happened to them? They were huge for like a year or two. They write catchy music but all the stuff I've heard by them all kinda sounds the same. Either way its a catchy song.

@Heat 4/10 Vocals felt weak and had no punch. (And for me, vocals and lyrics are metal's bread and butter.) The one riff pattern that repeat out through this song, wasn't even to keep me interested. (While skimming through twice I noticed a solo part that sounded nice at the end, but it was drown out by the riff.) The acoustic guitar bit was close to salvaging the song for me, but the drum fill afterward sounded really fake/off for some reason.

I'll admit I woke up with an ear hurting and aching back and probably tired. Maybe it effected my listening experience.

Vocally, this guy is closer to mewithoutyou with simpler lyrics. (So not exactly a powerhouse) But musically this album is great and lyrically the whole album is a sucker punch in the gut.

@SleepingSilence I don't know what it is about me, but I just seem to need a higher tempo most of the time. There are songs that I like that are slower like this one, but they're very few and far between and I don't actually know what makes them different. Everything else just tends to remind me of the slower songs that I do like, which usually just gets me wanting to listen to the stuff that I already like.

For example, this one makes me think of American Pie by Don McLean, but for some reason I like American Pie better. The singing is still good, the music is still pleasing and catchy, but it just feels like I've heard it before. And I know I'm not judging it unfairly because of the lyrics or anything because if you took Lamb of God's King Me and slowed it to this tempo, making it an acoustic cover, thematically it would be pretty similar, with ideas of overcoming personal struggle, except focusing on personal demons as opposed to a rough year like this song does.

I don't know, I'd say 6/10 because it's a good song, but I feel like I could find five more songs by five other bands that are basically the same, right down to the pianos and guitars, just with slightly different chords. It feels like the kind of song I'd hear at the end of an episode of Scrubs.

Anyway, here's a dramatic change of pace. I found these guys about a month ago and I can't stop listening to them, I have no idea why.

@GoliahDon't have much to say about this; I've heard of Death Grips for a while and I've had a listen to a handful of their other songs. As someone who listens to metal, their work is probably the easiest rap/hip hop for metalheads to digest. Some of Death Grips's songs lean more towards harsh, noisy territory. This one seemed to be a little more catchy, spunky - accessible. I'm not a regular listener, so some of the appreciation might be lost on me, but it was fun.
No number ratings because I detest quantification.

Onto more metal - I had the pleasure of seeing these Finns Saturday night in Brooklyn. Put on a hell of a show!

@Goliah I actually completely agree with some of that, the chorus certainly sounds like something they play on Scrubs. (Their music/this album has been on television.) Maybe the song has a little more lyrical specificity/finesse, which is why I'd give it an edge of songs like 'Superman' or something like that. American Pie is certainly more poppy, which probably makes it more 'fun' to listen to. The album itself has a couple faster/'upbeat' tempo songs. If your curious. (Honestly, I'm listening to the album again. And stuff like this is far better at being an emotionally slow tempo song than 'this year.')

I'll rate your song though. :P I've listened to several death grips song because how they're talked about, and I really never got into them. But you might have found the first one that hooked me into listening, was an enjoyable listen. Now it does remind me of this rock song where's it's basically the same words over and over again and it might walk the line of getting obnoxious on repeated listens. Very simple and slightly repetitive. But it worked for first listen and I liked it. 6/10

@Aristo I'll rate it because I know (at least for me) high pitched screams are the hardest for anyone who doesn't like metal to enjoy. x3 When I was warming up to metal, even I didn't like the higher screams. That riff sounds a little familiar? But it's very enjoyable. Had some vocal range/variety, and the drum fill was a solid ending. (Lyrics certainly are cheesy and a little try hard, but I didn't understand them, so I didn't factor them in my rating. lol.) 7.5/10

This artist does quirky pop best.

@SleepingSilence 7.3/10. The vocal pops were a bit weird, and the tempo was a bit funky, and the lyrics were a bit strange, but I enjoyed the melody and the singer's voice.

@Arya10108909 Not exactly sure what I just listened to, but do you know what? I honestly don't care because this was refreshingly pleasant. I got an earnest delight from listening to this. I'm not one for these types of folkish songs, but this one seems to be one of the rare few that got me to smile. 8/10

6/10 My first admittedly not so gracious interpretation of this band would be flyleaf without a great singer. But I'll admit I enjoyed the melody/chorus presented in the song. Lyrics are pretty typical. But it's an enjoyable song.

Back to metal, with one of the more talented musicians in the genre. (With a lot of music that's a little hard to get into.) But this song is an exception for me as long as you have a little time on your hands.

Devin Townsend is almost always an automatic 8/10 for me, and he still is here. The grand, sweeping, almost orchestral soundscapes he weaves are amazing, never mind the fact that he apparently had to relearn songwriting without the aid of substances after Strapping Young Lad. I will never not like Devin Townsend.

Anyway, here's some industrial post-metal.

@Goliah I'm generally adverse to anything under the "industrial" label, as it reminds me of corny goth aesthetic and vampire club-type scenes. Industrial metal is no exception; I would rather just separate the genres and be done with it. I wasn't a fan of this track. Even though 4:30 is on the shorter end of the spectrum of what I listen to, I found it tedious, since he first three minutes just loop the same riff, which is pretty minimal and boring to begin with (that just being my opinion, of course).
I've no problem with minimalism and repetition when there's substance behind it, but I just can't imagine a ton of effort going into this track, and there's not a whole lot going on within. So yeah - hard pass on this one.

It'll probably take an appreciation for rawness and low fidelity to milk any enjoyment out of this, especially if you aren't a regular listener of underground black metal. But why not give it a shot:

I also don't hate religious themes just for being there, or when their not pseudo-satanic. So I'm perfect for rating this...

6.5/10 Very simple song, simple lyrics but good singer and reminded me of "Something There" from beauty and beast or "Cheer Up, Charlie" from Willa Wonka. (Sounds like a musical sing along song is my point. XD) Maybe with a bit more disney's hunchback of notredame choir/instrumentation in there. Though she belts out a few notes, so the singing is a bit better than that.

One of the best pop punk vocalists by a mile. (not the best example of that, but it does show off some lyrical story telling.)
