There's a reason why I don't bother applying anymore unless I can rewrite the applying character back into my own lore.

I'm mostly here for the comunity and the group effort. As it stands I don't much see a point of staying on.

While not really bitching though I do suppose it is difficult recruiting new players in a generally old RP, that and finding consistent rpers. Any RP that is say more than 8 months or so old, well there are bound to be times where activity dips. In those times some RPers tend to take flight and that does affect the over-all pacing.

I'm incredibly bothered by the number of 18+ roleplays popping up. When you're 17 and under, that's not fun. Honestly, in my opinion, if there's stuff like explicit gore and descriptive adult romance, then it's 18+. From what I can tell, most of the games don't even qualify for that. Maybe it's a stigma that teenaged players are less than able, or not as dedicated. Maybe I'm missing something. Maybe some people are just putting it there because of the 'one in each category' recommendation. But, I've given up looking at those games, because clearly, they don't want me, and I'm not just going to age up and call myself 18 to satisfy them.

It's almost like the gender problem to me in some regards. I don't care, unless there is the potential for it to get dark and/or steamy. Which is something I don't block from my interactions, so by default, roleplaying with me generally means you should be 18+, or I should have that impression so I can legally deny any shit happened.

While I doubt too many of them think of the legal aspect, that's still there. It's easier to throw off parents when you say "hey, he never told me he was 18, I didn't see it anywhere, and I had a rule that only adults were supposed to be in anyways". Liability is a bitch.

Sometimes it really is the stigma. While there are good 17 and under roleplayers, the truth is that many (well, just like adults) are simply posing as competent when they're really in a stage of growing out of metagaming and godmodding and the other shit that some people just don't want to deal with.

It's naive to assume 18+ stipulations will be more accurate than gender restrictions, but if I used it, I would consider liability, and on some level try and avoid having some forms of people younger than 18 contact me. I know it doesn't work at a fundamental level, but there are sometimes merits to such restrictions, and some people would honor the request. That said, I don't really care about player age and only want to have an idea before roleplaying if I can assume my partner is above or below 18, in which case I can manipulate content accordingly and have a case to build in case some deranged parents try to call liability on me. I'll interact with above and below, and I may well have interacted with people below or far below without having a clear picture of it.

In short, liability is the main argument that I would consider valid. Comfort is naive, "I prefer to roleplay with x" is meant well but naive.

Doesn't help that the entire forum has, shall we say, "aged up" in terms of content that is more frequently seen in there.

The meaningful thing it adds is that sometimes, things aren't how you want them to be, and complaining about them won't do anything. That aside, nothing is stopping said person from actually sending out a PM and saying, hey, I'm 17, wanna do an RP without all that content because I liked your idea for x and y. But, yeah, I guess you are right, Sierra. Best solution is to come here and complain about something nobody can do anything about because of the way this website is set up.

Wait, are you talking about the RPG-function 'tag' that says 18+? Or are you talking about people labeling their thread name 18+? Because the tag barely gets used and could just be an alert that 18+ material could be in the thread.

For things like gore that's a discretion thing. It's more of a warning. That said the advice I gave you still stands. If you see a thread with a plot you like and it's labeled 18+ for some reason and you can't decipher why, then why not just PM them? If it's because there's possible smut involved then ask them if the plot is possible without.

I wouldn't really call it belittling but I suppose your threshold for calling something belittling is lower than mine. The long and short of it is that I see so many ways around the issue presented that can be undertaken by the poster themselves that I see little use in bitching about it.

It's almost as though speech and the recognition there of is entirely subjective in nature. If you perceived it that way, by all means. Words have the power you give them, etc, etc. Offense is taken not given, etc, etc.
