The Revenants

You were killed, murdered by the God-King's soldiers. Your death was unfair, without due process or even provocation. Perhaps you were a baker trying to flee from the battle, or even a soldier trying to defend the weak and destitute. Either way, your life was snuffed out by the vast armies of the God-King himself. Through magical or perhaps other ways, you did not stay dead for long. Resurrected back into your body, you have awoken once again. Your city is burned all around you, and heaps of the dead litter the streets. The armies of the destructive monster that has held this country in his iron claws have left for the most part, leaving the city to burn. All you are left with is questions and unimaginable power.

A whisper in the back of your ear tells you one thing; The God-King must pay for this.

World Info

The continent of Aether is a vast world, filled with races of all sorts and sizes. Dwarves, elves, humans and even halflings can be found across the extensive land. At one time, Aether was divided in separate kingdoms, all different and varied. These kingdom's have since been absorbed into the God-king's Empire. Cultural significance is difficult to take away from people however, and some citizens still identify by their past allegiance. Altar, the God-King himself, took over the continent of Aether over 200 years ago, and the effects of his warmongering is wearing on the world itself. Furthermore, the border provinces and towns that survived his attacks early on are falling quickly, as evidence of your recent death.

Aether is dying under the yoke of Altar, as he drains of the continent of its power and life. Whole forests are being uprooted and farmed to make way for more houses and people. Mountains are being mined out, with Dwarven teams bringing unimaginable riches from below. This has been going on for 200 years, and the continent is screaming for release. Furthermore, the economy has stagnated, and the rich, upper echelon of society could care less about those less fortunate. Peasants are constantly starving, and some are sold into consensual slavery to pay for their own families.

The Empire is split up into 5 distinct districts, all united by their cultural significance. Additionally, these districts are led by a Magistrate, an administrator that has been given control of their district by the God-King himself. These Magistrates are rumored to be given power from the God-King and harbor magical abilities. The Magistrates must be taken care of before the God-King can fall.

Magic is completely banned, and those that are found to be gifted are whisked away by the Imperial Police. Over 60 years ago, it was discovered the God-King was converting these magical users into beings that are now known as Unseen. They are former shells of themselves, monsters that can sniff out other magical beings. Imperial Police use them like drug sniffing dogs, and they are abhorrent to see by the general public.

Sorcerers and Wizards are very few now, and this allows Altar to continue his reign of power. Without the amazing fabric of magic, opposing armies can do nothing against the might of Altar. If your character knew a slight amount of magic before his/her demise, please detail how they were able to keep secret for so long.

Religion has been completely replaced as well, and the churches of the old kingdoms have been converted or destroyed. The Altarian religion is now dominant in most circles, the number one tenant being worshiping Altar himself. Some believe the religion to be more for looks then substance, though their are fanatical believers in the Altarian flock. Some people truly believe Altar is the savior of Aether, and his rule is important for the continent to stay alive. This could not be further from the truth of course.

Character Sheet

This section will detail the character sheet and how to create a character for this roleplay. Please read every section carefully, as your character must make sense in the grand scheme of the world itself.

For starters, your character can choose from any of these races:

  • Human: Aetherian Humans arrived over a millennia ago on boats, survivors from some apocalyptic event from their own home continent. Wars between the elves and humans raged for centuries before peace finally carved out the original kingdoms. Now, humans have not changed much since then. Still determined as ever, Humans are known for their industrial nature and lust for life.
  • Elves: Elves were an original race on Aether, having been living there for thousands of years. Long life-spans and a natural affinity for most magic allowed them to edge over the humans in the original wars long ago. Now however, elves are being killed and converted daily, with many of their numbers dwindling. Elves that are born without natural affinity in magic are considered lucky, though they would be seen as unlucky long ago.
  • Dwarves: The dwarves came up from the crust of the earth shortly after the humans arrived, wielding their axes and hammers. Their kingdoms were much smaller of course, but they are mighty in their strength. Today, the Dwarves are the workers of the kingdom, which makes many of their kind richer then most. However, their rebellious nature is noted as well, as many do not like bending the knee to Altar or his Empire.
  • Halflings: The halflings have always been in Aether, considered by many to be an offshoot of Elves. Today, halflings are discriminated against by the older races, as the Empire places low worth on them as a race. Many are slaves in mines, and free halflings are a rare sight.
  • Orcs: Orcs are the newest addition to Aether, having arrived perhaps 600 years ago. They came in large tribal groups from the south of Aether, crossing into the continent from the desert lands, which harbor no life. Their tribes quickly went to war with the old kingdoms, resulting in campaigns of marauding orcs and destruction. Today, Orcs are more used to society, though they are still quick to temper and vastly physically superior to others.

No other races exist in Aether. Please do not ask to create a race, as this list is important to the storyline. Half-races are also incredibly rare of course, though they do happen. If you go that route, prepare for a hard time in social situations, as half-races are seen as disgusting at the very least.

Your character, before they died, were staying in a border province city known as Dalath. This city was once a prosperous trading kingdom, but had fallen on hard times since the Empire took over. Through diplomatic means, the Dalathian council were able to pay off Altar long enough to survive, though that seems to have changed since the siege. The entire city has been destroyed at this point, with thousands of civilians killed. Your character does have to be from Dalath mind you, just staying. This means you could of been a citizen of the Empire itself, but you were killed all the same.

Now that you have returned from the dead, your abilities have increased 100 fold. If you were merely a good hunter before your death, now you are an astute marksman that can possibly summon a wraith bow from the spectral realm. A militia-man cut down in his prime is now a death-dealing swordsman, able to cut through swaths of infantry with little problem. You are the Empire's biggest nightmare, and your abilities are powerful. As the roleplay continues on-wards, your abilities will grow and you will gain new ones as well. You will have ultimate creativity in your abilities, and we can talk about what you want to be able to do. Since no PvP will be occurring, some strong abilities can be used here.

Please fill out the CS below when you are ready. I will make criticisms and changes as we go along the application process.

Name: This is fairly obvious. What is your name?

Age: What is your age? Elves can live to be over 800, as can Dwarves. Orcs, humans and halflings all have similar lifespans.

Race: What race is your character?

Gender: Another fairly obvious question.

Profession: What did you do before you died? How did you make ends meet?

Appearance: Pictures are fine, but I still want a description of your character. Please do not use anime pictures.

Revenant Ability: This will be the hardest part of the CS and is subject to change throughout the application. What is your first major ability as a Revenant? Please note, all skills have been increased by your resurrection, and are already included in your character. This section defines a special ability you now have. For instance, a hunter might now be able to create a special spectral arrow that can pierce multiple targets. That would be an ability you can use.

Personality: What is your character like? How do they react to events around them? What is their opinion on Altar and the Empire in general? Are they afraid of magic?

History: What is your characters backstory. What was their upbringing like? How did they fare at Hogwarts their first couple of years there?

I will be adding more to this as we go along, so keep checking back for more. Also, if you have any questions, do not be afraid to ask!

Name: Ilium Carenth

Age: 23

Race: Human

Gender: Female

Profession: Forager and wilderness guide.

Appearance:
Long black hair that sometimes hides her deep green eyes. Her skin fair. A deep green almost black cloak around her. Her clothes under the cloak look light weight but still warm. Long black boots travel up to just below the knee. On her back a bow and a machete. On her side a quiver and knife. She truly looks like someone who belongs in the woods.

Revenant Ability: (Want some feedback on this and I am willing to change it) Ilium has the ability to leave an Illusionary clone in her place as she fades away into shadow for a moment. Physical contact can make the clone disappear but that should leave enough time for an arrow to hit her foe that she uses the clone to fool. Eventually this power may grow to multiple clones or ones that can actual harm others.

Personality: Ilium is a risk taker and a loner. She doesn't see the need to socialize in this field of work. She goes out and gets what you need and you pay her, that's all. She is very in control of her emotions and doesn't let emotion cloud her judgement. She sees magic as part of nature, if it wasn't meant to be used, no one would have it. She is observant of everything around her and feels the creep darkness of that god-king is something unnatural and wishes to see it end.

History: Ilium grew up in a small house in the woods. Her father and mother made their living in the woods, and so would she. Her parents taught her everything she knew. Herbs for medicine and poison, Berries for food and pain remedy, how to track and hunt, how to live off the woodlands and hide from that which hunts her. Her father also taught her to defend herself from not only beast but man. She learned how to disarm and hurt those who hurt her.

At the age of fifteen she started working with her parents, going out to forage and hunt for money and goods. It was an amazing 3 years of working with them, then that evil king came. The citizens couldn't pay as much as they used to... The woods didn't provide as much as before. They moved to woods on the other side of Dalath.

One day Ilium's mother got in an accident in town... Ilium didn't know all the details. Something with a person from the kingdom of Aether not wanting to pay for the herbs... She was taken away... At least that's what Ilium knows. She has worked alone since that day four years ago. Her father moved after that but Ilium couldn't leave the place she grew up in. She currently lives about a mile into the woods near Dalath's trading district. A small camp with all she needs to live the day to day.

The day of the attack on Dalath, Ilium was trying to sell her good when the soldiers and flames came attacking. She did her best to escape but ultimately fell in the flames of the falling buildings. The screams all around her. She wasn't sad with this... More mad and upset that it came to this. How could anyone let HIM come to such power...

Awwww yiss! Time to do this.

Westwall you sure this be a casual-standards group? :P Not that there's anything wrong with high standards; it does not change my interest.

Now decisions to make ... I tend to write predominantly female characters to the tone of me having vastly more of them in storage than men. Of course, all my RPs died so none of them are in use right now and the active-play balance is even. I'm torn as to whether I should write a man for this, or stick to my guns so to speak.

Also think I can get away with a halfbreed of a halfling? It'd reduce the usual distinctions to make blending in a bit easier, but still coming with some of the intrigue both good and bad. Just a thought I was dabbling with while concepting characters.

EDIT: @percius388 I'm not Westwall but I feel like you could totally go full-on Loki with fully lifelike false projections. That could be very awesome.

EDIT 2: @WestWall I have a discord server I've extended to RPs before (pretty sure the one that's currently using it is dead anyway) so let me know if you want that. I have permissions systems set up so RPs get private rooms only visible to them, and GMs get moderator powers within their respective rooms (obviously this isn't the first time I've done this). Clearly this is loosely dependent on me getting thoroughly involved with this since it is my personal server, but I don't really see that being too much of an issue so I'm offering this service way early.

@Sierra That is a good idea. I wasn't sure if I should start with a full power speaking illusion or just and image of one to start.
I can't really give input to your character but we could totally be Charlie's Revenant Angles. XD

@percius388 :D I think you would have liked Adrianna, the character I had wanted to use for this but actually was underpowered (which is ironic given her design). Not at all that benevolent, but rather fascinating nonetheless.

Good to already see interest and posting!

@DawningAurora This is up to you honestly. The power given to you should be very strong, as it will give you an edge over numerous enemies. I love creativity, so I am leaving this up to the character and we can work with it to get it more balanced.

@percius388 Congrats on being the first application! Now, onto my criticisms. I love the name, first of. I'd love to see more meat to the application, but it is a great starting point.

As for her ability, I do like what Sierra suggested, the illusion clone ability would be no doubt helpful and could bring you some strength to the team. Just one image may not be powerful enough.

Also, I'd like you to expand on her history a little more. How was she killed? Her mother being taken away, is that due to her having magical abilities?

Honestly, a fantastic application.

@Sierra I dont mind whatever gender you decide to use. Ive played both genders in the past. Also, a halfbreed of a halfling would be terrible in social situations, but if you want to, I will not stop you. A halfbreed halfling would be seen as a disgusting abomination by most, as halflings are already seen that way without the inclusion of being halfbred.

I tend to shy away from Discord, as I am not experienced with it enough to use it. I think I may decline for now, but if this gains a lot of interest, then perhaps I will ask to use it.

@WestWall Okay! I can power up the afterimage to a full on illusion! As for the mother since Ilium doesn't know I was leaving a little mysterious so maybe you could play with it. She thinks it was because someone framed her for magic using. I was also under the impression everyone would die in the raid, I gave give Ilium an interesting death though.

Ilium is actually a part of the pelvis bone and a perversion of the Lilium family of flowers.

@percius388 Her original gimmick was actually this (qtd from int check):

Adrianna carried something called a Wraith Pendant. It might be obvious what that does. It contains a wraith that can be summoned for a massive, if temporary and later-debilitating, surge of power. Its not far off from the power level that seems to be targeted for this RP's characters. For this, I was wondering if I could invoke something similar. The character is actually two entities: a living person who never died, and the soul form or someone who did and has gained the powers associated with time spent in the incorporeal world which can inhabit the living person's body (control of the body remains cooperative, not adversarial). The possible advantage here is that it can be suppressed (the soul can occupy a small trinket in place of the person) to be a completely normal living human, but with the added disadvantage of mortality. Being still a living human makes the character vulnerable as such, even if they have the power of a wraith at their hands.

That actually ends up being substantially underpowered when everyone else is semi-immortal demigods basically (though it was originally balanced against normal human party members). I'm most likely just going to do something new. I also want to play with a different set of weapons than she traditionally carries.

I was wondering about the ability to Enslave others. I was thinking of Branding through touch. And through touch I am able to exert my will over the object, animal or person. I can turn anyone into a spy, assassin, or soldier. When it comes to objects it allows me to control them as if through telekinesis. I figure against someone named God King the powers have to be quite strong.

If enslaving isn't possible then perhaps Creating and Manipulating poison?

@WestWall First draft. This is an odd iteration of this character if you knew what he was before, but I'm quite pleased with it.

Name: Levi Yve Nykolas
Age: 37
Race: Human
Gender: Male

Profession: Soldier of Fortune - Travelling from village to village, doing whatever work is available. The march of Altar’s armies has made safe work - that which is unlikely to get him killed - a scarce find. He keeps ahead of the marching death, never staying to aid places he has learned are about to come under siege. No amount of gold has convinced him to face Altar’s legions; he would never live to collect it.

Appearance: Aged, scarred, gruff, not known for appearing friendly. He neither barks nor bites as harshly as he may appear however. He has a set of three scars cutting across the right half of his face, stemming from the corner of his mouth, the bridge of his nose, and just under his eye ... courtesy of a long night in the woods in winter and a pair of hungry wolves. His armor is a lightweight, yet durable mix of steel plate and thick leather, scratched and gouged by both blade and fang. His waistbelt is heavy with steel, a pair of high-quality arming swords he has carried for years without end, and a set of carefully balanced kunai bought from an elven trader.

Revenant Ability: Walk the Shadows - Levi fades from existence, leaving only a wispy black fog in his wake. He moves swiftly to strike from unexpected angles and evade attackers.

Personality: Blunt, brutally honest, and a bit pessimistic, but loyal to a fault. Though his line of work would suggest he is loyal only to wealth, he grew up on stories of heroes of old. But in his own words, “There are no great causes left to fight for, no feats worth fighting for, no battles worth dying for. There is no valor to be had in throwing one’s life away vainly trying to stop Altar’s conquest.” When the legion’s came for Dalath, his last wish was that his inevitable death would be worth something, that some townspeople could escape with their lives. In his mind there may be no heroes anymore, but sometimes one fool who tries to be can make the difference.

History: Levi originally was an apprentice blacksmith. He never finished his apprenticeship before his village had to be abandoned when word arrived that Altar’s legions had set the town in their sights and were on the march. Barely a man, he answered the call for volunteers to fight. The town’s few trained warriors planned to strike the army when they made camp, slowing their advance and buying time for the townspeople to make it to the next village. A sound plan in theory, but the god-king’s legions marched through the night, burning the town as they passed though rather than making camp. It was deemed too risky to return to the townspeople, and the war party scattered into the woods. None of them were ever sure if the townspeople made it.

Levi and a few of the others made it a day later to another town that had no idea how close the army of the apocalypse had come to them. Of the small band, only one was a trained soldier who trained the others whenever possible. Levi, being somewhat familiar with swords from forging some, picked up the skill a bit more readily than the others. As years past and they traveled, men parted the group and went their separate ways. Eventually, even Levi’s master believed it was time to settle. He said it was better to live while one could, than constantly running until the end of one’s days.

Levi carried on alone. His blacksmithing skills were still rudimentary, not proficient enough to make a profession out of, so he made a name for himself on the one other proficiency he had: swordsmanship. For years he was a travelling blade for hire, but work in that realm grew scarce over time. He kept ahead of Altar’s rampage most of the time, but during a stay in Dalath, he was caught unaware. He was among the first to notice the faint sound in the distance: a charging cavalry.

With the legions coming, there was only one thing to do: hold the line. Half the soldiers would go with the evacuating townspeople to a mountain pass a mile west of Dalath where they could hold off Altar’s army for a time. Everyone else who could swing a blade efficiently would hold the first line at the town itself to buy time for the retreat. Levi took up his place at the first line of defense. Each successive hold would buy more time than the last, but it all rested on the first one. The first-choke defense held longer than expected, cutting down nearly a battalion, but in the end it would not be enough time. The fleeing caravan did not make it to the pass in time. The second wave defense was not even a defense, it was a slaughter.

Gael Pardus

Name
Gael Pardus or just Gael

Age
68

Race
Dwarf

Gender
Male

Profession
Knight, and Eternal Protector. Gael protected and prayed for his sanctuary, and protected it from any who dare defile or mean harm to it. He did not need money. The inhabitants fed him, and gave him a bed, and a roof. He only had his duty to care for.

Appearance

He was rather thin compared to his comrades, even if he accomplished his duty best, and he was made fun of because of it. His cloak was also unique to him, a gift to him from his niece. It covered his face, extremely rarely seen, and his long white beard contrasted with it. It flowed down to his feet, but with it's constant movement, it was never seen fully down. His sword was always with him. he didn't have a sheathe, it was at his side, or in his hands. He is short compared to most, but tall for his race at 5'3" and 90 lbs. His sword was old, and was given to him by his mentor as a small child, kept in good condition even if it doesn't look like it.

Revenant Ability

Corruption: Gael infuses himself with the power of the people he had protected, his comrades. The disciples, and turns into a hulking beast. He can easily wield his sword now, and flings it around, slicing through the air with grace. His hood helps with this, as it goes with the sword, and is used as a blunt weapon, and corrupting the people it touches. The power of this ability is stored in the hood, and he can release the souls of the people, to seek and destroy his enemies. Rarely uses the prayers of the disciples that he learned to cast a force that pushes away everything around him.

Personality
Gael is an extremely nice person, and will go out of the way to do things for his friends and family. He is very serious, and doesn't joke very much. He shows a great deal of love and care for his niece who is his only family left. He doesn't talk much. His voice is crackly and deep, rarely used, and he puts a great deal of thoughts into his words. He usually talks with nonverbal ques if possible. Very protective of his family, and if anyone tries to mess with them, he would go to the end of the world to try and regret doing so.

History
Gael was born into a family of protectors. He was trained by a monk in a local monastery, who taught him that you need to care for others, and they will you. He taught him to use leverage and advantage to use things most people couldn't, and to make people underestimate them. He then went on and off on fasts, and was briefly schooled on history and English.

He then trained every day of his life to use the large sword as fluid as he could. He didn't use it as a hulking mass, more as a straight sword. He went on and off of this and protecting the monastery. He got very good at predicting attacks, and stringing together his own in a very unpredictable pattern, throwing the enemy even more than they were beforehand.

Soon he learned of the God-King and his soldiers, and prepared himself. He prayed with the monks. He learned how to live with barely anything, and still fight. He learned and trained, but no training could stop what had happened. They came in with force like no other, slaughtering his entire family, they lived in the same place. Only one remained, one who lived in a very far away place, seen by few, visited by even fewer. Even he was killed in the slaughter, ganged by 20 men, all of the other protectors went without a fight.

The whole place was razed, he cried. He cried for the first time in his life when he came back. His family was killed. Everyone he knew and loved was dead. The God-King was going to pay for this. He was going to die, and he had the powers to do so.

This looks pretty cool!, I made up a small character

Name: Danwan Lavium

Age: 43

Race: Halfling

Gender: Male

Profession: Chef - Danwan is a master chef, no matter what kind of food you want, he can make it. It isn't a exciting job, but for him it was his life, a life without a tasty meal isn't one he wants to live. He is also a skilled butcher, he is able to both kill, skin AND cook his meals.

Appearance: Danwan is a gruff Chef, he is well-built and muscled, his hair is a dark red and mud-caked, he has mutton-chop sideburns which cover the sides of his face, he both smells and looks like he hasn't bathed in a decade, he tends to wear a chef outfit with a white hat and apron, with kitchen tools held on a belt, being a halfling he is really small, his eyes are light blue.

Revenant Ability: Magically Delicious: Danwan is a master chef, the food he makes not only tastes amazing, but it also gives special abilities to whoever eats it, this can be anything from incredible strength, to instant death

Dark Resurrection: Danwan had the power to magically Resurrect anyone before he died, though his hatred and lust for revenge has perverted that power, whoever he resurrects comes back as a zombie, half-alive and half-dead, it will do anything he commands.

Personality: Danwan is terrified the Unseen, as he spent his life trying to avoid them. He is sympathetic towards mages as he understands their struggle to survive in society. In order to throw off the Unseen, he does whatever he can to make himself smell horrible, causing his horrible odor to mask his magic. Danwan is obsessed with revenge, he is cruel towards the Empire and it's lackey's, this can cause him to go to extreme lengths to get his revenge, anyone in his path of revenge will simply be trampled.

He loves cooking, it's his passion to cook. He dreams of opening his own shop, though he has long forgotten about those dreams, he is a family man. He is abrasive and rude, having no politeness to those he doesn't like, this is because of his anger over the death of his family. Though he can be unexpectedly compassionate towards people he can relate too. He is incredibly determined, if he wants something he'll do whatever it takes to get it.

Danwan is also obsessed with finding his lost children and wife, he misses them more than anything else. If he ever finds out where they are, God-King have mercy on whoever hurts them.

History: Danwan was a ordinary Halfling, born free in the city of Dalath, he dreamed of becoming a chef and owning his own restaurant like his father, His dad named Janver, taught him how to cook the finest meals in all Aether. Life was simple for him, he spent most of his life working at various restaurants, cooking whatever food he can make. He married a smelly baker named Lemita and started a family of three, life was simple.

Then one day, he learned that he had magic, strange things happened around him, dead animals would come back to life unharmed, though his wife Lemita secretly knew magic as well, she taught him how to control his healing magic and most importantly, how to hide it. He started rolling around in mud and shit in order to make himself smell awful, as a result any Unseen that'd sniff him out would only smell shit. he spent his entire life worrying about getting caught, ironically it wasn't him that was caught, it was Lemita his wife, she was taken away in order to be turned to the Unseen, Danwan tried to save her but was killed, without any parents for his children, they simply disappeared, no one knows what happened to his kids. Danwan's body was thrown into a ditch, to be forgotten about by the world.

But one day Danwan woke up and now the Empire will suffer for it.

Name: Aymon Nawarin
Age: 300
Race: Elven
Gender: Male
Profession: Empire Soldier, Mage Catcher
Appearance: Aymon was inscribed with Elven face tattoos upon birth, marks of his family. Grown he has long brown hair that goes past his shoulders, high cheek bones with emerald green eyes. Since he is or was rather a soldier of the Empire, he remains beardless, with his imposing 6’1 well-muscled physique to help put the fear in the God-King’s enemies. Returning to the world after death he wields two elven katana’s and deep green, loose fitted, steel armour.

Revnant Ability: Time dilatation and master swordsman. What is perceived to others as the ability to move with immense speed, Aymon can tear through his enemies in a mere moment by slowing down time, this is also not restricted to battle but (for the moment perhaps) can only be used for a short time (lol). His prior average swordsman knowledge has turned to mastery, allowing the elf to dual wield two swords at one time

Personality: Before his death Aymon was a cold, unrelenting killer. He didn’t speak often and when he did it was only in small amounts, blunt and abrasive. He hated himself, hated what he did and what he represented but this life was all he knew. The elf plays his cards close his chest, often trying to read and suss people out before speaking, he does his best to ensure you don’t know how he feels.

History:
There was once a time when the name Nawarin meant something, hell, Aymons father, Virion, had even heard an Orc speak their name once, the half-witted creatures they were. Together he and his wife bore three beautiful baby boys and four gorgeous little girls, all perfect, powerful mages. The family was a testament to Elven nature and superiority.

At least that was the case until their little abomination came along. Aymon was born like any other, gifted with the tattoos of his family’s name across his face they all waited for them to glow with the extraordinary wonder of magic. One year turned to two, then to three and four before the question finally came about.

What if he was born cursed? What if the boy was magic-less?

What would their community say? How could they face the other Elves? There was an expectation for them to uphold, they couldn’t simply let Aymon roam free and tarnish what they had worked hard to maintain. They couldn’t send him out into the world either, what if he were to return? The tattoos would identify him immediately. The family came to the decision to keep the boy inside, raise him as a servant to the family and never let him leave. They would tell others he had died, a great tragedy that only served to boost the Nawarin name, while telling him that he was born to attend to their every need.

Aymon was only ever content with this in his early years, happy and filled with life the boy cooked cleaned and assisted daily with whatever the family needed. It took a few years for the question of why he wasn’t allowed outside to crop up. Virion took the opportunity to explain the dangers of the outside world and how only great people blessed with magic could survive its horrors. They were doing him a favour by keeping him safe and allowing no one to know he existed. Warped, Aymon understood, wishing he could change things so that his family didn’t have to bear the burden of keeping him safe.

That change came but not in the form Aymon wished. It was a winters day like any other, the boy was only twenty (a mere speck on the timescale of Elven lives) when, while preparing dinner from the family, he noticed that they were out of firewood.

This was it! He thought.

If he could prove he could go outside and live, he would show them that they didn’t need to constantly care for him and maybe, just maybe they would be proud. While out gleefully chopping wood, a human family came across Aymon. Taken by surprise and fearful they would kill him he ran, though not getting to far the elf tripped on a root and partially knocking himself out. He came to with the humans taking care of him, when he questioned why they had not killed him they laughed, explaining the war was long over and they wished no harm.

Before Aymon could question any further there was suddenly a green blast, knocking down the mother. It was Virion and he had just killed the human woman! The human father brandished his sword and charged in a fit of rage but Aymon’s father dispatched him easily with a fireball, reducing the man to ashes. Virion berated the young elf, asking him how he could do this to his own family after everything they did for him! Aymon’s father finished by fireballing the little girl,

“Look at what you made me do! You’ve killed them all!”

Aymon was taken back to the house where he was beaten mercilessly. The family told him the truth, that he was the monstrosity and that they had kept him away from the world for the protection of themselves and others. Aymon rebelled all he could but he was no match for these powerful mages. The beat him, humiliated him into submission.

This continued for the next 60 years until the great war. The family spoke of the “God-King” recruiting non magic elves for his cause and by this time the boy had grown into a spiteful and hate filled man. The first opportunity he got he ran away, joining the Empire’s Army and taking the fight to the mages himself. Soon war engulfed the land; Altar’s army was all but unstoppable toppling the mightiest of kingdoms. Aymon had finally found his calling, a place to be accepted and his real home. He had learned how to draw in mages during battle, he had learned how to tire them and while weakened, kill them. The war was ferocious but quick, before he knew it the Empire was victorious and now it was just days filled with hunting down the mages that remained.

Scattered and broken, the elves hid like rats but it was ultimately useless as the God-King had his own mages, terrible disgusting husks called “The Unseen”, that would find any and all who wielded magic. One day Aymon caught a lucky break, he was given the names of one of his brothers to track and return to his Lord. It was all too easy capturing him but on the way back they got to talking. His brother told him that their parents were caught long ago and that they were turned into husks that seek out mages. His brother asked to be killed rather than turn into one of them. Aymon did not believe him, nor was he about to disobey orders but that night his brother tried to escape and so Aymon was forced to kill him.

It wasn’t until a few years later the elf got the chance to see how the Unseen worked. Entering the chamber he spotted familiar tattooed faces, albeit husks of their former selves. From then on the elf questioned everything, for all his hatred did they deserve this? Did the world deserve the evil that they committed?

Turn to the attack, the Unseen had identified an elven boy being held in the city and Aymon had been sent to help kill two birds with one stone. He managed to catch and corner the family but the boy, his green eyes reminded him of himself at that age, full of hope and love. Aymon asked the father to kill him, take his horse and flee the besieged city. The father obliged.

I am absolutely LOVING what I have read so far. I will be posting criticisms/nitpicking later tonight or tomorrow morning.

@Weed I do not have a problem with the branding, but I will make it distance based to start. The farther away you are, the less powerful it is.

Hmm, well I was originally going to make a male character, but seeing as everyone else is male, minus the one, I think I'll try to make a female. Don't hesitate to correct or critique as I'm used to playing male characters.

Name: Dahlia Cailteux

Age: 102

Race: Elf

Gender: Female

Profession: Dahlia made her living foraging and hunting, selling various herbs, meats and animal pelts in different towns she came across in her travels.

Appearance:

Dahlia is tall and pale with white hair and dark eyes. Her hair comes down to her lower back and is often mostly pulled back leaving some strands to lay loosely around her face. She wears dark clothes with many pouches, pockets and baubles attached to her belts. She wears long, fingerless gloves that end just above her elbows with wraps and some bracelets. She often wears shorts or form-fitting pants that tuck into her boots. She has a bustle skirt that she wears when she's in towns but takes off to hunt, as it would get in the way.

Revenant Ability: Animal Manipulation: Dahlia can control any animal she can see or that is within 30 feet from her. She can call on them for help, cause them to attack an enemy or even go fetch something for her. (As time goes on and her powers grow, I intend her to be able to take on certain animal abilities, such as flight, water breathing, speed, etc.)

Along with her newfound abilities, her magic that she has stifled since birth has started blooming, much more powerful although she is inexperienced and doesn't quite know how to use it. Her previous hunting experience has also blossomed. She can now shoot arrows with pinpoint accuracy from great distances. In close range, she is also very skilled with a dagger.

Personality: Dahlia often come across as reserved and quiet, as she spends a good portion of her time alone. She is flighty and can often be seen as too careful, sometimes paranoid. She is mistrusting of most people, but isn't unkind unless an individual gives her a reason to be. She has an intense hatred for Altar and all he stands for. He has made her life one of constant fear and movement as she can't risk staying in one place too long, or else she may be found by the Unseen.

History: From the time Dahlia was born, she was on the run. She was born with magic abilities and her parents knew immediately that they had to hide her from Altar and his minions. They left the town they were living in and began their lifelong journey. They had relative success for the first few years of her life, moving from town to town, sometimes staying in the forests if they felt at all in danger. It wasn't until she was 6 that things started to go downhill.

They had been staying in a small town when one of Altar's armies stormed the town. Being the only elves there, they were immediately targeted. They managed to escape, just barely, fleeing the town and moving into a cavern some ways off. Instances like this happened every once in a while, and they began wearing hoods and other things to hide their elven ears. She learned to hide her magic abilities, never practicing it or speaking of it.

Finally when she was 18, they were unable to escape from these minions. Her parents were captured and killed publicly. She was able to escape during the chaos and she stayed on her own ever since.

She had learned to hunt and live off the land as soon as she was able to hold a bow, so that's what she did. She spent much of her time in the forests, away from civilization getting by on her skills as a hunter and gatherer. After some time, she began traveling from town to town, selling dried meats, pelts and herbs she gathered in the woods. She was in Dalath at the time of the attack, staying at an inn and selling her wares in the marketplace. She tried to run but, as so often happens, her luck ran out and she was caught in the battle. This time she was simply killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. When she came back to life, she felt an increased hatred for the ones that caused her death. She had been running her entire life. Now she had died and it was time to stop running.
