Why don't we have guilds? A group of people that trust each other. Could be useful when trying to set up a big role play story. Having public guilds new players could choose to join could lead to a lot of coll things. I don't know... Don't kill me just an idea. Tell me what you think?

I guess that the Guild kind of already works like this, to say the truth. People drift naturally for the groups that they feel more comfortable with the whole time.

Making it an official business, would either require someone to go out of their way to make a thread, or threads, or Mahz to do more coding (which is always the last resort measure). Plus, I think that creating official Guild/teams/whatever would promote far too much rivalry between the site members as they filter into self-contained communities, which in turn would make it harder for people to experiment with ideas/groups outside of their comfort zone.

At least from where I stand, the cons outweigh the pros, for this kind of idea.

@KoL Basically explained it. There's enough of a gap between groups on here without making it more toxic like this. There's a natural strong mutual trust between certain roleplayers already, and even if there are guilds of similar interest, it doesn't mean you'll have people you like. Not to mention there are sure to be control freaks who insist on domineering over the guilds, making things fit a specific mold or kicking people out all together.

Our community ain't big, lets not implement ways to cut it up and make it smaller.

I've seen people do something like that before unofficially where to join a game run by them, you had to be an approved member. I don't think it ever took off.

Honestly, the concept is kind of divisive and you're dealing with something that can cause a lot of petty conflicts and newer members feeling ostracised. Imagine being new to the guild and seeing that most RPs are exclusive clubs that you can't join unless you apply, and while you may counter with "but they can just apply to those guilds!", consider that a big reason a lot of people don't play in advanced is because they see it as an elitist club, or think they aren't good enough when they write excellently.

I hate that Advanced is viewed like this. I've been in plenty of fun-loving easy going Advanced RP's (I'm in one right now, in fact!) And I've never really seen people act like elitists in the slightest.

I think we do have the idea like what you just mentioned. And it is called as "Expanding Horizon." That place is almost as desolate as the Desolate of Smaug. Besides, people come and go making the whole idea of that extremely hard. Especially when all of us have RL to take care about. So when we leave, we may letting the whole Rp into a stagnant without realizing.

EDIT: Okay, serious answer, we do have those "guilds". And those guilds are just groups of petty people who follow each other around and don't let other people into their little worlds. We're already a guild of people who like roleplaying, no need to fracture it into smaller communities.

That being said, if it's something you want to do, just make an IC recruitment thread and go for it. See if there's anyone out there into it. It sounds mostly like you want inter-roleplay adventures and politics like multiple threads with interlinking storylines. That in and of itself is a good thing. The forum version of a West March D&D campaign xD

It's more a logistics issue of how to do it in a way that encourages beneficial things in the guild, like people getting together with new groups of people and building epic plotlines, rather then it becoming a bit of a petty mess with OOC squabbling and drama.

As @Scarescrow said, Expanding Horizon is a very similar concept, with threads and groups of people and different planets and all sorts of things like that. But it hasn't seemed to have taken off. I think perhaps implementing something on that sort of scale in a way that is accessable to everyone is the real challenge. We don't have many options to put up supports and foundation and scaffolding to keep something large scale trucking, imo. So if you did want something sprawling and vibrant, it'd have to be a grass roots type deal with alot of people putting in the time and effort to keep it going. And that comes with it's own issues.

I think perhaps if you wanted to do a thing like that, you'd need to either simplify it, and heavily keep the focus on the roleplay aspects and what you want to achieve with it. To be honest, there are alot of roleplays out there that have IC factions and they work just fine. It's the pulling that into OOC in a way that works and doesn't devolve into a hot mess, I don't think this forum is really the type of place for that.

My favourite thing about this forum is that it's all pretty chill. You have only four types of categories where all the roleplays go rather then a website that splits up the 6 fantasy roleplays from the 2 sci fi and the 30 slice of life ones, making everything move a little slower. I don't know, bringing OOC guilds into the occasion doesn't seem to mesh well with the structure in place here.

Maybe as a small time event deal for a while. You could have kawaii desu desu badges you give to newbies along with balloons and cookies and stuffed animals. Could be fun as a smol thing. Or have some Spam games about guild allegiances.

Anyway, thats my stream of consciousness conflicted barf for the day.
