@SleepingSilence Soo, it was a bit long, but I really loved it, actually. Not admittedly what I was expecting, but the vocals were great, and I really liked the drums. It ended a bit abruptly. 8/10

@Arya10108909 3/10. Didn't expect a musical, haha. The guys in it have great voices but I've never been big into musicals.

@Heat Okay that's just not fair. That's basically my favorite Sabaton song, the synth/drumming in this song just makes song like audio crack. This would of given you a 9/10 or 10/10 on the spot. But the live video and the audience made it a lesser song for me. 8.95/10 (I'm sorry, it had to be done.)

One of the best lyricists. Musics always pretty good too. If you can listen to spoken word/hardcore punk-like vocals. These albums are masterpieces.

This page really shouldn't be so dead. It's a shame.

4.5/10 *shrugs* Listenable I suppose? Very typical mainstream radio easy listening stuff. Didn't have a strong opinion either way. Though a Jaden Smith feature can do nothing but lessen the quality of a song, so that drops it by .5 (and because the word hella was uttered.) XD

Just within keeping the theme going, though I think I'd enjoy this guy more so if I could actually understand him...

I'm thinking I'm going to relaunch it, or make a completely new one with revised rules.

In regards to the song:

I actually have quite a few songs sung in other languages that I don't understand that I still enjoy. I of course end up looking up the meaning to get a general understanding of the song which only ends up enhancing the taste of the music. This piece is no different. Interesting exposé of his time in prison cut over fairly generic but by no means a terrible rock tune.

Well, in the case of foreign music, one of my favorite songs has to be "Dernière danse" by Indila. It's about how an immigrant has to deal with racism in her new home and how she changes into a woman. Good song with a good tone. It's in French if you don't know already.

@The Spectre If nothing else, her voice is fucking velvet. I need to learn to speak the language. And great topic for a song, really well produced video.

Mine is more on the casual side. Just a dude being an idiot and trying to get his girl back. When I first heard it though it sounded catchy until I learned what it was about. Now it's just a little somber. Video is alright.

@ExitIt's okay. 5/10. It just fell flat. Though I see we've managed to forget about metal somewhat.

@Arya10108909Heey I loved that show! And great opening theme. Now i need to go back and rewatch it...

I have a feeling someone's already posted this at some point, but in trying to continue this trend, here is the opening for the Naruto season I remember most from my childhood.

@Exit One where you merely give thoughts on the track provided without number scores? (I suppose that could be fruitful in more ways than one, I still like using rating scores myself. :3)

Edit: Well shoot you beat me to the punch. The funny thing is about the big original 3 shounen anime, I always found Bleach OP's my favorite, in music terms. I never got into the others as much. Though that was when I was younger and still enjoyed Bleach. The 2nd bleach opening is still pretty fantastic though. But Asian Kung-Fu Generation just has a powerfully emotional vocalist. (Also better as a full song, just because there's more of his singing in it. :P) 7/10 Enjoyable song (even if not the full one.) though the actual opening itself isn't particularly interesting. (doesn't effect the rating.)

@The Spectre I enjoyed that track alot, choirs are always cheesetastic. Though looking at the translated lyrics, it looks like it's about nothing like that. xD

@Arya10108909 Well it's one of the better anime openings, on visual story telling. But I'm rating music here. ;3 I'd also prefer listening to the whole song vs the edited intro if it's possible to. (The full song is better, can't go wrong with a guitar solo, so I'd feel like it would be cheating posting a score equivalent to ranking the full song.) So I'll throw it a 7.5/10. Still a fantastic anime OP and song though. Rewrite from the original FMA, will still always be my favorite song though.

Okay, now some random, quite enjoyable indie folk music. From many bands I need to look deeper into their discography.

@SleepingSilence I really don't like indie music - not because it sounds terrible but because it all sounds the exact same.

Overall I think this track is a little too quiet, but overall not bad. It's very melodic which I like - I'll give them that, they're pretty good at harmonizing. The vocals flow together with the instruments well too, which is a plus. But I just can't get over the fact that, to me, this sounds the exact same as literally any other indie band out there. (Hyperbole, before you ask.)

I guess I don't mind the music if it were on the radio but I'd never go out of my way to find it (or any music like this for that matter).

@Odin (Though admitted hyperbole.) I can vaguely understand that feeling with indie folk, because a lot of it has very similar elements in them. Gang vocals are often present in songs of the like. (Though that could be said about many genres I suppose.)

However just indie music period? Indie rock, pop, folk and the rest? There's honestly plenty of differences between many of the bands. Even in just indie folk, you could easily find plenty of variety within it's genre. (The Mountain Goats don't sound like The Decemberists which don't sound like Bright Eyes which doesn't sound like Emma Ruth Rundle-well you get my point...)

Though posting a trap rap song, is a little humorous because I'd probably say a similar thing...at least the genre itself and less so the beats, since everyone, even more talented artists are following that particular trend. It's a lot easier to make that case as well, since in mainstream people literally just steal people's flow's or parts of wholes of others beats. The repeat one word or phrase over and over again as a chorus is a thing, song writers really should try harder than that. It just sounds very typical to the genre and the lyrics I did understand like "swag" make me cringe. (Sorry. ^-^') 2/10

I'm not completely opposed to trap music. (well at least not completely...though Astronautalis and Kristoff Krane who are good artists made pretty abysmal trap records...) Sadistik's trap album was enjoyable enough...

Eh . . . 4/10 - not bad, but not too good, either

The instrumentation is varied but perhaps to a fault. It definitely feels like it should be a powerful background track, but there isn't any real focus on one instrument to serve as the support. This leads to the beat feeling flaky and uninteresting as all these different tones compete for the listener's attention. Add to that the fact that most rap songs are very reliant on their beats to provide support, groove, tempo, catch the listeners attention, etc., the lack of any real consistency or strength in the instrumentation definitely undermines the potential of the song.

The vocals aren't really my cup of tea either but I do appreciate the varied inflections of the voice and the concerted effort to actually try and rap. I think that the meter of the piece is too brief, which results in the phrases becoming choppy with strange pauses that feel like they come too early. I also think that the vocalist's enunciation could use work, as due to his speed it becomes difficult to understand what he's saying (the fact that alot of the things he's talking are often based on strange and otherwise disconnected topics/ideas doesn't help either)

4/10. It's laid back and chill but nothing really that noteworthy. The singer has a good voice, but the lyrics are pretty simple.

@Didgeridont I actually don't entirely disagree with a lot of that. The artist can do much better, I'd show off more of his better work if you were curious/or we're particularly interested in rap. I'd be curious to know if you any particular trap rap that you'd find particularly well made/lyrically compelling? It almost seems purposefully created to be dumbed down entertainment.

@Heat Harsh vocals, so few people like metal on this site. I guess I'll do my civic duty. I've only really listened to Dissociation as a whole and it was just hard to really parse all in one go. I wasn't really sure what I'd rate it, or whether I liked the album or not. I even listened to this song twice, 2nd time looking at the lyrics. And the lyrics certainly don't help with understanding exactly what anything is about. The guitar riff was enough to keep me engaged with it, I didn't dislike any part of the song. It's still a band that though I recognize their talent, it's hard to really sink my teeth into their music. Was enjoyable though. 7/10

I'm not sure if I liked this album as much as his previous two, but I can't deny that it's still not enjoyable. Sorry, you'll need to give this one some of your time. Hopefully you enjoy the ride. (you can turn it off after the static around 6:20. Can you tell it's an album closer? :D)

@SleepingSilence So, I figure I'll be honest no matter how much it sucks. This song had zero appeal for me and the parts that stood out kind of only stood out because they irritated me. I don't how to explain it. It sounds like Trent Reznor and The Pixies decided they wanted to be Queens of The Stone Age and I suppose it doesn't help that I've always had an aversion to blatant "Fight the power/You can't keep us down man" songs, it doesn't matter if it's Twisted Sister singing "We're not gonna take it" or pretty much any punk rock band. I can barely stand Rage Against the Machine and I definitely can't stand Prophets of Rage. The only reason I can think of is because the entire idea of "Fight the power" has been twisted and distorted over the decades and it feels like people are trying to recreate the power that music displayed at Woodstock and during the 60's but with less effort. Not to mention the people singing "Fight the power" have typically never actually been wronged by "the power". I mean come on. White dudes singing about how they won't be kept down? The worst a white guy can be kept down is with minimum wage. It just that those kinds of lyrics take me right out of it and the Trent/Pixies/Queens mashup just seemed to have all the sound of those groups, but none of the style to me.

Sorry, I know it's a song you like to some extent but I figured it's better to explain why I give it a 2/10 instead of just rating it with no explanation. It just really isn't my thing at all.

If I'm being completely and totally honest, this is the only song with that "Fight the power" theme that I kind of liked back in '08 and even nowadays I can't really figure out why a band with four white dudes are singing about needing to rise up against the majority. Yeah, yeah, underlying "We are the 99%" themes, but still.

Feel free to tear it to shreds or praise it, either or.

@Goliah (Well I figured someone would say it was a little too long for it's own good or something, there's certainly other flaws about the song itself.)

But it's certainly fair enough to be annoyed at lyrical content and it sounding hollow to you. (He is sort of someone in his 30's portraying things to be about his 20's.) Though the idea of specifically white people merely talking about overcoming odds, not being a possible/realistic outcome for you, is a particular view I certainly don't agree with. (But this is a music thread. So I'll leave it at that.)

Though I don't like people protesting in songs either, usually for the reason of if it sounding more bitter and preachy. Some bands can be so good at writing catchy tunes it doesn't matter, like Rise Against's older material. But "I'm oppressed, feel my pain." song's are often annoying when they're purposefully selective or pandering to a particular group. Like you aren't trying to make catchy/good music for anyone to enjoy, you're doing something to be someone's moral better.

Well, I'd say if any song was pandering, that one ticked off a lot of boxes in quick succession. (you can tell it's an older song or skinny wouldn't be apart of that list, at the very least.) Even mentioned the man closing their frat house and wanting to start a war, certainly a modern college song. But lyrically I've certainly heard worse. Instrumental was decent and it had a decent melody, though was a little too short to get into it all the same. 5.5/10

(Incidentally, also a song from 2008. Also I find the idea of a song not being good, solely because they didn't experience such things make it a little harder for concept albums, my favorite thing ever, to work as well as they do.)

@SleepingSilence 3/10.

It's pretty generic sounding, not good, but not unbearably bad. It seems like another alt rock-ish love song, though it vaguely seems sort of religious? I'm kind of getting that vibe from it.
