Yes, Electronic Warfare; used for jamming enemy radar. The SEAD Mission is conducted by an EC platform and an attack platform.

SEAD is Suppression of Enemy Air Defense
Attack Platform is an Aircraft carrying air to ground missiles.

The EC aircraft flies in at normal altitude, while the strike aircraft flies in low, under the radar ahead of the EC aircraft. the EC platform detects and jams radars and then relays location to the strike aircraft who destroys it. This is known as Wild Weasel.

I have a recap of all the submitted ships thusfar to include Air Assets and Marine units.

I decided to tone down some of the Navassa Island's stuff for balance, but since it seems accepted that there could be more stuff I'll go back and edit that in when I finish the application.

You know, I was thinking of making, if it was possible to have two ships, either: a Missile Range Instrumentation Ships, Range Ships, or Tracking Ships (Same thing) with a crew of navy, navy intelligence, air force intelligence and CIA that hate eachother's guts.

Or, if it would even be allowed, a nuclear AWAC aircraft, super large and with a sizeable crew so it works like a submarine, staying in the air a substential amount of time without refuel.

Wernher: looks excellent, you're in

If Queen Raidne, is cool with this, let him keep the LHD, just allow me and if Rare chooses to create a second ship as well. I say this because this fleet is sadly lacking FFG, DD and CG. They form the protective barrier against lurking Submarines and other surface vessels as well as a flight of incoming Attack Aircraft. We need 1-2 ASW Ships (FF/DD) and maybe 1-2 AAW ships with ASuW capabilities like a DDG or CG.Having 2x Marine Expeditionary Units would be way cool. Also, Skip the Essex Class and come join me in making an America Class. It is coming on line in June 2014, so isn't an actual active ship yet. But Queen Raidne seems to desire to something extraordinary. I'll start working on an ASW DD too.AAW - Anti Air WarfareASW - Anti Submarine WarfareASuW - Anti Surface Warfare

Sure, go for it!

What I was going to say. Especially since my sub will be an Attack Sub, thus giving a sort of a multi-role position XDAnd having multiple ships would be cool. But running the crew on board the ships would be hellish. Since running one ships crew is hell enough in a combat scenario XD

Though Slypheed has a point. Don't overtax your writing abilities, but if anyone wants to have a second ship and thinks that they can handle it, go for it. If you start becoming unable to handle it, we can always reassign your second ship to a different fleet.

TheEvanCat: Looks good so far. I'm excited to see how a battlecruiser's going to fare.
Gunther (2): Accepted
Slypheed: Cecilia doesn't wear the armband? Gee, that's probably a good thing. I'm also amused that all of your "main characters" are female. +1 for womankind! Any way, accepted.

Nuclear aircraft - Well, there's two issues I've got. First is that it'd be Air Force, not Navy (which I admit likely bothers me more than it should). Second is that nobody ever actually dared to fire up the reactor while flying, and I'm not sure anyone would bother to resurrect the program (although I bet that you could come up with sufficient reasons to suspend disbelief).

This may be a strange and/or lame alternative that I'd be okay with (somewhat contradictarily to my latter reason in the previous paragraph), but perhaps you could make a hybrid airship if you really want to have a flying nuke? An airship would fall under Navy purview (or at least could be argued to fall under Navy purview, as they were the last branch to fly them). But a conventional airship would not be able to lift the sheilding needed for any nuclear reactor, which is why I suggest a hybrid, which is like a nearly-bouyant-neutral plane.

I'm gonna make a second ship. And it should fulfill our EW problems (that Gunther mentioned) as well.

As for nuke aircraft, they could never get them to work because the shielding would be too heavy. Now they're irrelevant because missiles have gotten rid of a need for a bomber to circle indefinitely.

Hey, I'm kind of interested in this, and I have an idea for ships/characters, though I do have a reservation that it might be a bit too... 'wacky', for me, and end up being more comedic than I'm comfortable with. So, would it be possible to get some kind of clarification on what the 'tone' will be before I decide to join in or not?
Also, I'm pretty confident in my own writing abilities, but I've never gone for an advanced RP before, and similarly I'm a little nervous about the player-driven aspect, but I'm sure I can cope.

The advantage of nuclear power is, cheap energy that lasts for extended period of times. It is not necessarily designed for speed or any other benefit. Aircraft rely on speed and low weight in order to perform effectively. Placing a nuclear reactor in an aircraft undermines its potential. Sure the thing can fly for 30 days without stopping to refuel, but who wants that? Who needs that? The components that make up a nuclear reactor small enough to fit into an airframe would be very heavy. I wonder if it could get up off the ground? Sure, this is fantasy, science fiction, but a line should be drawn somewhere. Reading that only makes me groan.

Planes with nuclear reactors aboard have been flown by the USSR and by the US, but much like you say, Gunther and EvanCat, the outcomes were that it's extremely dangerous and very, very heavy. Neither aircraft were powered by their reactors, as both were testbeds to see if it was possible. The answers were pretty much as surmised: yes, sort of, but there's not much point having an aircraft with a huge endurance, as the crew couldn't stay up there forever anyway. Also, the radiation shielding was the biggest problem, as it was difficult to effectively shield the crew and keep the aircraft flyable.
Unsurprisingly, the idea came about in the 1950's around the time the Cold War was really getting going, and shortly before ICBM's became the next step. The idea was it was supposed to increase the ability to reply to impending attacks, and increase the deterrence factor. There's plenty of info about it on the internet in various places.

The only reason they needed them was to put them for days on end ready to roll in and drop oldschool bombs on Moscow and shit. Sure, arguments could be made for reconnaissance but satellites (and now drones) defeat the purpose of that as well.

Plus, we're not keen on spending shittons of money on military equipment anymore with our economy, which is partially why the Navassa Island is using (modernized) guns for shore bombardment. A cannon shell is cheaper than a multimillion dollar Tomahawk missile.
