@Heat Ha ha of course. I think you damn possible spiritual messages just a bit much. But hey, it's your taste. But if you read those lyrics "I tune to my ears to the BBC. I can hear them, they can't hear me, I long to forget the horrors I've seen. I live like a ghost and I'll die with the free." yet got "generic love song" out of that, I got absolutely nothing to add. (except that I wish more generic bands had an entire band of good singers that knew how to harmonize like that. XP)

Though if we must talk about lyrics and how a song improves by adding them, or on rare occasion they'd just be better if they were removed. If they're bad lyrics, or if they are meaningless. These lyrics seem to fall in the latter category. (And there's no particular lines that would get stuck in your head either.) They just seem to be a bet on how many bigger words that they could use in a song. You could find lyrics like this in most Deathcore albums. Though a possible saving grace, could be the vocalist, but he sounds the same as most generic weak metal vocalists. Basically musical filler that you're not supposed to pay attention to. (And vocalists often make or break songs for me.) He has absolutely no powerful moments.

So really the song lives or dies on it's instrumental, which technical death metal tends to focus on anyway. I enjoy the talent being displayed, solid drumming and guitar work (and solo) etc. Though I've listened to the track 3 times now and I still can't really fully enjoy the piece. Maybe it's because I woke up this morning with a bit too much wax in my ears. But it just seems too haphazard or disconnected, but not weird/impressive enough for it to suddenly shift into me loving it again. However, I may give the whole album a shot. Because it just seems like it's a band that's far better as a whole than individually. So thanks for the album recommendation. 6/10

Some awesome guitar work, without any clumsy vocals to get in the way.

@SleepingSilence

7/10 on the Joe Satriani track. As much as I respect the guy's work, nothing can top Surfing with the Alien.

@Exit One where you merely give thoughts on the track provided without number scores? (I suppose that could be fruitful in more ways than one, I still like using rating scores myself. :3)

That would definitely be part of it.

@Cheetuhman This song feels really good. Old school. Kind of transports me to another time and place and makes me feel great. Like a nice song to wake up to in the morning to start your day and empower you. Something to listen to while drinking Folgers. If I had to score it? Probably a good 8 to 8.5.

@Exit A nice little catchy tune. Definitely had a nice beat to it, and it was very easy on the ears. Something which makes you tap your feet while listening to it. Solid 8/10

@KaijuBaragon I actually really like this song. When it first started out, I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it, but by the end of the song I was searching it up on Apple Music so that I could add it to my playlist. He sort of reminds me a bit of Tyler, the Creator, in a way. I'd give it a solid 8/10.

Oh dear. Okay, I've just never been a fan of this kind of rap.

"N*gga" word count: 34 times, or roughly 5 percent of all total words in the verses.

Even if I disagree with a message, if you're going to make a song about oppression and appropriation, typical lines like "Bitches leave n*ggas for cunnilingus, Fuck me like her n*gga non-existent." really make seem as hollow as it likely is...

The beat is too minimalist and repetitive for me to really enjoy or relax to it. (the lyrics also don't match/help make it any kind of soothing hum worthy experience.) But I get it was clearly meant to be uncomfortable, matching the video's tone in the chorus of him being hung. The "chorus" is simple, but effectively unnerving. I won't deny both rappers had flow, though having some wordplay here and there. Rhyming n*gga with itself four times, needs to stop being such a cornerstone that prevails in this particular genre. 4/10

(Well this isn't exactly a lyrical masterpiece. But it's very fun, there's not enough music like this.)

@SleepingSilenceI like the string in the background. I used to play back when I was in school so it's always nice to see it pop up in something other than classical music. Raak's voice is unbearable however during the hook. The message is fine and something I can get behind but his delivery isn't the best although I don't see how it could have been improved unless Gilbere sang the whole song himself. Nice pick up in pace in the middle and flow to go along with it. Used sparingly enough for me to want more and definitely not played to overabundance.

6.5 to 7ish.

@Ejected There's something I love about songs like this. Rap songs tend to lean one of two ways, we either talk about the money we have or we talk about how we made that money. Both are good but one has a story, and that's ultimately why we're all here. He's got good rhythm, good bars, nothing too heavy. Just enough to keep you interested in the story he's trying to tell you. Lines are clever. "Straight enough to lick a plate clean without using soap" (heavily paraphrased). Beat is simple but it's never really about the beat. He could just be talking and it would have been a spoken word... kind of.

Really reminds me of a lot of the songs I used to listen to back when I was a kid... when my father would leave his radio and cassettes out. Both a terrible idea and an amazing coincidence.

7/10

Edit: changed the song trying to keep with some kind of theme.

@EjectedI listened to this last night, but decided not to rate it, however I cannot pass on the opportunity to show where I first heard the song.

@Exit Alright. The only line that made me do a double take was "Brown hairs like Chewbacca." But the 2nd half of his 2nd verse was at least had some heart/emotion on the track (and the first line was a decent start to the song about him growing up) Musically, very mellow, easy listening rap. So, I'm sure anyone who preferred easy listening rap would like this song more. But it sort of went in one ear and out the other for me. I appreciated that the chorus had no auto-tune and was more than one phrase/or word over and over again. 5/10

Here's a rock band I didn't know existed, but now that I do...

@Exit The fact that we just put some Dreamville artists back to back, lol. I really like that song, though. When the album dropped I listened to the whole thing in one sitting. It def wasn't one of my favorites off the albums, but still a gem.

@SleepingSilence Whoever that guy is, he's a dickhead an idiot who's trying too hard to be funny and obviously didn't understand what Cozz was saying. That's all I'm gonna say on that...

As for this song, I'm like eighty percent sure I've heard this on the radio a while back. It took a while for me to get into it, though. I was about to switch stations right before it hit that 1:35 mark. Great vocals, nice video to interpret, I just thought that the lyrics to the song were a tad bit creepy, at first.. I'll give it a 6/10.

@Ejected I believe he has some very dumb opinions at times, but he's an actual rapper and he does like the genre and speak passionately about it when he enjoys something, he just focuses on being humorous. He's not worth taking that seriously. ;P

As for this song, the instrumental is very much background music feeling for me, albeit pleasant enough. Which on it's own isn't a good or bad thing, but it does make what the artist is saying and his lyrical content stick out. So they need to be a good lyricist. But yeah every song I've heard from Joey Badass (still groan when people use $ signs) shows he's pretty good with wordplay/rhyming/flow. He makes it enjoyable to look at the lyrics while listening, to appreciate the effort put in his craft. And while I'll always prefer serious/heartfelt emotional rap to punchline/brag rap. I still like well crafted lyricism. 7/10

Starts at 1:18. (yeah I'm never a fan of music videos like this either.)

@SleepingSilence Although not my type of music, I can appreciate the quality at show hear. The lead singer is very talented, and the quiet introduction to the song was very nice and easy on the ears. I can also appreciate the very interesting music video that runs behind it, with good cinematography throughout. The guitar work is also well done.

@KaijuBaragon Wow, that was a pleasant surprise considering the last one that was posted on here. Was a simple/fun song. 7/10

First Aid Kit, made another one that got me on the first listen. <3
