The birds sang outside of the window and a young man with crystal blue eyes slowly opened the look out the open window. “Today’s the day!” He shouted as he sprang from his head. He and his best friend from college moved into together for a couple reasons; one was what they could save money and start paying off their school loans and the second was that the apartment complex only had one place open and it was two blocks away from the hospital they both were employed at. Yes this was Alexander, Alex, Le’Fontane and he was a new doctor at HSS Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
Alex hurried down to the shared bathroom to make claim of it as he got ready. Washing his face he stared at his reflection in the mirror. His hand ran across his face feeling the lack of facial hair, a groan left him. His family genetics prevented him from being able to grow facial hair and he always wondered if he could pull it off. Shrugging softly to himself he sighed and looked at his hand. Taking in a deep breath, his fingers and palm began to glow a faint white glow. Smiling brightly he ran his hand through his hair and his hair was perfectly styled and shaped. Pull his hand from his hair he finished up getting ready and hurried to kitchen.
Taking a moment to check to make sure his roommate had not started to stir, he clapped his hands together; the white glow eliminating both hands. Holding out his hands towards the kitchen, things began to move, the components to make pancakes.
Magic was a key part of Alex’s life and something he grew up using even though he lived in the human world, this magical being, this elf, lived among the humans. The problem is that the elves are scattered about the world and have to hide themselves until they felt the humans would accept them. So it should come as no surprise that they filled the locations of politics, civil servants and doctors as their powers are very useful in many different ways. The HSS Hospital was a hospital ran by elves cloaking themselves as humans and his father was the director of the hospital. Alex was destined to take over the hospital and he was okay with that but per his wishes, he will work his way up the ranks before earning his spot at the top.
His father was desperate for his son to come the hospital that he even agreed to take on the first human to ever work at the hospital and… well that was a bit problematic.
Elves were never supposed to reveal themselves to humans until the collective community agreed it was time but suppressing magic causes magical bursts of uncontrollable energy which can be dangerous so, Alex always took a chance at using his magic so he never had a burst; which is why his father was okay with hiring Kiera along with his son. One human can’t cause that many problems… right?
As the pancakes finished cooking and loaded themselves onto the plates and floated to their small dining room table, Alex hurried to Kiera’s door. His large hand knocked against the door as he was in his white tank top and black pajama bottoms. “Kiera wake up! Let’s have breakfast before we go. Hurry hurry hurry!”
Despite his looks, Alex was about 200 years old; very young for an elf but drastically old for a human but he had never enjoyed time around humans then when he met Kiera at a Comic convention and she showed him a couple outfits that were for sale. The next thing he knew he was dressed as the hero from the Zelda series and he even unmasked his ears and everyone went nuts! He became incredibly popular and the two became fast friends, even finding out they attended the same college and Alex became a very popular Cosplayer. In fact he became so popular around NYC that he no longer masked his ears and just had people convinced he had them implanted since he only cosplays elf creatures. It was fun to ‘be himself’ but it was hard because he wasn’t continually using magic hide his ears.
Now he was an elf pretending to be a human who cosplays as an elf with a human roommate and coworker to go work at a hospital ran completely by elves who help humans heal but cannot use magic around humans (conscious humans) and the entire hospital is under the supervision of his father.
What could possibly go wrong?
“Get up sleepyhead!”
