A Tale of Owls and Wolves

The world of Ithea is a wondrous one; fraught with powerful nations and technologies that aim to shake the foundations of this realm. Be it the High Elves of Valenndale, the Orcs of High Mist, or the humans of Carthus and Penault. This tale is one of triumph, exploration, and conquest.

Beware the misty glimmer of Ithean shores; not all is at it seems. For even the owl's ivory feathers may be plucked, and the wolf's fangs, dulled.

The year is 138 in the Age of Owls. The focus of our tale lies with a group of strangers all brought together by the Talon Company of Ardent's Fall. The local organization is a union of various artisan guilds in Ardent's Fall and throughout all of Carthus. Each member of the unlikely partnership has been brought to this great city for their own reasons, but all of them are indebted to the Talon Company. They find themselves arriving to the city on the day of the 'Festival of Broken Conquerors"- a festival celebrating the vanquishing of elven dragon "Deis the Conqueror" by Ardent Lady of the Bog.

After a string of murders has terrorized the city the group is formed as a discreet investigative body. As stories of old warn not all is as it seems in Ithea. The magic of this world is an ancient and deceitful mistress. Do take care in unearthing secrets that were never meant for mortal eyes.

Rules and Character Sheet

Rules

Character Sheet

If there are more submissions than expected I may have to select from the pool of applicants for the most fitting of the applications. With only myself as GM I would prefer a smaller party of around 4 (not including myself) players. However, if some players want to sign on as Co-GMs as well then I'd be willing to have a slightly larger party. Feel free to let me know if you're interested in being a Co-GM!

I will also allow for reserve submissions if you'd like to secure a spot should anyone drop out down the road!

*Feel free to take design liberties with the CS Sheet. I've found this sheet to be a useful skeleton, but as long as you include the information most relevant to your character in a concise and readable way it's fine.*

Personally, I don't mind highlighting the text, but it is kind of hard to see so it might be a good idea to switch it up. I'll have a review/suggestions up for you later on today! (I'm on EST-US time just so you know)

WIP, just posting it here for the time being. Feel free to critique as it goes, or wait til I'm done.

I will say that I'm not entirely sure about all the skills I'd put, particularly for any race-related advantages, if any.

I'm going to be adding a natural ability for all races, but Dwarves have the natural ability of Forge Touched which makes their bodies temporarily more resistant to intense heats or non-fatal blows. They can still be hurt, but they are capable of ignoring pain for longer than most races at least in this regard. This is particularly true of burning. As for other skills, is Berris skilled in the forge like many of his kin? Perhaps some more roguish abilities would work for him? Is he a marksman or quick at the draw (fast reflexes). Skills aren't set abilities in the way spells are. They are more just what your character is talented at since we aren't rolling or anything.

They are also more prone to know/figure out history relevant to stone-work throughout Ithea. Were you thinking of Barris hailing from the Viguard or Ostguard empire?

Do you have the neutral ability for Tieflings too?

@LordofthePies

Yes, Tieflings have a natural ability known as "Dread Call". Tieflings are heavily resistant to demonic and otherworldly possession (except from the Dread God itself) and can temporarily call upon the Dreaded One to read ancient texts (though the Dread God may not always answer).

@LordofthePies Sorry my response is taking a bit. I'm working on notes, suggestions, lore bits, and potential NPCs and the like involving Light. I'll PM you soon with my thoughts!

I figured it might help others to see my recommendations so I'm going to post them here. If you have any concerns or questions please don't hesitate to shoot me a PM. I'm still working to fix-up or add some lore bits to the Atlas so it's understandable if you're confused or need help!

@LordofthePies

Okay so here are some of the notes I have for Light. I really enjoyed reading about the character. I always find tieflings to have some of the most interesting stories to tell. I really enjoyed the skillset you gave him. I think it could really create some interesting moments in the RP:

@Famotill

Viguard Empire, personally.

Also, what kind of technology limits do we really have in terms of weaponry?

Like in my case, are we talking about early fire-arms like flintlocks, or old-west 1800s caliber in some places?

@Templar Knight Also, Templar I realize the Atlas isn't filled to the brim with Dwarven lore. I'm still building on the lore for the Atlas, but also trying to be sensitive to that fact that some of it could be spoilery. This RP is really about helping to establish and build upon the world including what you discover throughout the RP.

If you have any particular questions or suggestions related to your character, potential NPCs, villains, etc. please feel free to shoot me a PM!

That goes for anyone interested in potentially making a character btw

You have no idea how excited that makes me! I constantly am making lore-specific tavern songs. It'd be great to have someone share my madness!

If you have any questions please feel free to PM me!

@Templar Knight

Sorry for the late reply! I hadn't realized you added to your message. We're looking at early firearms. So they are still a bit cumbersome and inaccurate, but obviously more deadly than the weaponry contemporary for that time. Flintlocks would be a rare commodity with only a few select cities even having matchlocks for their guards.

Because magic exists firearms haven't really replaced sword-combat in the way they have in our would. Most technology has been geared towards dealing with magic, and while firearms are quite powerful a Mage is more easily defeated at close range than at a stand-off. Still there will be opportunities to upgrade down the line.

In this world blackpowder was developed by the Gnomes. If your character is somewhat of an aficionado with guns I can PM some additional lore that he'd know specifically.

Just gonna drop this WIP here! Feel free to give me some suggestions!

I'm thinking of making a free spirited, jester like bard. Shines in battle by insulting, mocking, berating people into mistakes or into madness. And perhaps even controlling or manipulating foes with a few well worded quips, or a crafty song.

I may swap around wisdom and strength depending on what the personality and her background is.
