A set of worn black Converse All-stars hit the metal grate hard as a young man walked down through the market of Amradan, in the Maxos Galaxy. He carried a large sack on one of his shoulders, the obnoxious load moving past the crowds of vendors, and patron's from across the galaxy selling items from their homelands. He passed by a few prostitutes from Aquaria, who shouted at him to rustle their gills. He kept moving his yellow eyes focused ahead, barely darting past a few men arguing about which of the small fighting robots would take the win in front of them. A neon sign hovered a few feet ahead of him, he paused his "Tony-Treo's Pizza Hutz" hat tilting up so that he could read, "Rachet's Grotto." He smirked ever so slightly before walking forward, his grip loosening on the sack as he came up to the joint. A large black man with metal dreads and a goatee was walking towards the young man in tow with a young green-haired reptile man from Terrar. They were laughing at an inside joke, just outside the grotto. The young man tried to step around them but the green haired guy stepped back and the young man was knocked to the side, his sack falling to the ground, his voice was gruff and a little off, "HEY MAN! WATCH WHAT YOUR FREAKING DOING! Some of us have some work to do."

The young man picked up the bag as the large black man in dreads spoke up, "Yeah, being the colony's ditch bitch! Carrying Aderthal crystals to the ship are you."

The young man flipped him the bird then proceeded towards the docks where the large resource cruisers were at bay. He wasn't alone either. Many other young men with sacks were crowding the docks moving towards the headship. The young man rushed forward, getting into line so he could dump his load with the rest of the crystals on the Queen Anne's Batalia. When he finished he ran out, wiping his hands as he headed to one of the black-suited soldiers with a clipboard,"How many left?"

The soldier in charge eyed the young man with cold eyes beneath his black helmet,"Number?"

The young man grunted, "Two-Twenty-Eight."

The soldier, used his finger to scroll through the virtual page when another soldier came up, "Just checked the Eastern Port. No sign of smugglers."

The head soldier smirked, "Of course not. You think any smugglers would dare try to steal the Queen's crystals. Not even Cooper would have the balls..to take on our armada."

The young man itched at his neck, "So I can have my kredits then?"

The head soldier turned to the young man and backhanded him across the face. The young boy took a step back as the soldier growled, "Do not interrupt your superiors whilst they are talking. You are done for the day and I will be taking half your kredits you earned today for your insolence."

The young boys yellow eyes turned to the soldier, no rage or anger visible behind them, "I..I...I need those kredits..."

The man took a step forward and the young man stepped back, "Fine...fine..I'll take half. I am sorry for my in..sold ance."

The man shook his head, "Idiot...here..take your money and be on your way." He released the Kredits into the young man's hand and the young man smiled,"It was nice doing business with you."

The young man turned heading into the crowd. As he walked, he removed Tony-Treo's pizza hat, a cascade of teal green hair fell onto his shoulders. He unzipped his jacket, dropping it into one of the rogue garbage bags to expose a white crop top that hugged a pair of firm breasts and a gun holster holding two Beretta 92FS Inox "9mm Sword Cutlass'" which hugged her armpits lightly. She kept walking a young blue child with two antennas running up to hand her a worn black leather jacket with a skull and crossbones etched into the back. She slid it over her shoulders before pulling out a pair of sunglasses which she plugged over her yellow eyes. She rubbed the head of the little kid and gave him the kredits before she moved through the crowd into an alleyway. She found a ladder a few feet away and climbed up a building so she could arrive on the roof. She looked around quietly enjoying the quiet as she eyed the two moons over on the horizon. She took a few moments before she walked over the roof, moving over a few other rooftops before she came to an air grate, that was partly open, the wind sliding through it's partly open doorway. She took a step forward and slid down the air shaft, her shoulders and shoes hitting the edges of the metal as she moved towards the ground.

Suddenly the metal disappeared and she hit the dirt ground with a soft thud. She stood up, looking around at the real market of the city. The underground tunnels were well lit and covered in bright lanterns. Vendors with forbidden gold, weaponry and, even alien parts screamed and bartered right below the high streets of Amaran. Prostitutes of a lower status were half-naked and dancing around drunkards who weren't even hiding the fact they were jerking off. The girl walked forward, a smirk lifting one of her lips as she headed towards the port o thieves. She licked her lips, her smile widening as the S.S. Ranger stood in front of her, a black devil among the other cheap and overpriced cruisers hidden within the underground port/cave a few meters over and under the real docks. The black man with the dreads from earlier turned giving her a cheeky smirk, "Hey ditch bitch, we are almost loaded up."

The small little green guy came over and spoke evenly, "Fucking morons didn't even double check the zip cards on the boys. Our boys completed the switch without even a fucking problem."

The girl laughed and came to fist bump the man with the dreads, "That's because when you have your nose shoved so high up your own ass you can't smell when snakes enter the garden. Did the men get their rewards, Mac."

Mac, the black man, nodded, "Of course. Also the bonus you added."

The girl nodded, "Takashi, get the engine running and let's burn outta here."

Mac frowned, "Cooper...you didn't do it did you. What did Jerry say about smuggling! The less they know about the smuggler the better."

The girl walked up the grate into the ship, as Takashi, the little reptile dude, ran ahead of her down a hallway towards the cockpit. She turned giving a cocky grin, "Yeah but what's the point of fucking over the man when you don't get to shove it down their throat."

She stuck out her tongue before she turned back around into the depths of her ship.

A few seconds later the Ranger was up and leaving port, cloaks and shields hiding it as they came up behind a large freight ship carrying Amradan garbage towards open space. Just as they breached the planets airlock, the head soldier on the dock was called towards the beautiful cruiser with a shout. He ran forward as one of the soldiers lifted up one of the bags, "Sir, one of the men noticed a hole in one of the bags and opened it to find this."

He handed over a pamphlet for Tony-Treo's Pizza Hut, a note etched in green ink on the back,

"Here's a Free Pizza for the Aderthal crystals. It was a pleasure doing business with you. Ursa Cooper."

The general commanded the men to cut open the sacks, as granite like blue rocks fell to the steel floor, he let out one long angry scream of pure rage at the realization of his mistake, "GOD DAMN SMUGGLIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGGG BITTTTTTTTTTTTCCCCCCCCCCCCCHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Cajjy Space, Fourth Quadrant.
System: Nethplume.
Planet: Nethplume Prime.

A toxic cloud of vapors hung over the gloomy interior of The Guta’s Saloon giving anyone entering without a cleansing mask an almost instant buzz. The chemical concoction perpetuated every aspect of the run down little bar, giving it a smell that took some getting used too. The source of this chemical mix stemmed from the numerous alien smoking devices from a hundred different systems. The diverse collection of creatures ensured the bar always had some new smell and cloud and sight to see. Cajjinxs with their pink tobacco pipes dominated the local scene tonight, filling the tiny saloon with their slimy bulks. A large mining cruiser full of invaluable scented stones from the depths of some gaseous planet had arrived intending to refuel, bringing with it a full crew of thirsty, stressed out Cajjinx workers. And as is common amongst all races, after acquiring their pay they dispersed in droves to the nearest saloons in town.

One wasn’t like the others though. The waiter lass with too many arms and a fuzzy bod noted this early on, giving this newcomer her special attention. While the majority of his kind were dressed in ragged jumpsuits he was adorned in fancy clothes, and his slimy skin was clean and even perfumed and waxed. Clearly he was an officer or manager aboard the mining ship, someone with more than a few kredits to rub together. Why someone high-class like that spent his money in a seedy little alehouse like Guta’s while fancier options were readily available was beyond her. It might’ve had to do with his nervous shaky hand that a few drinks calmed, or the way he checked over his shoulder every few seconds that the intoxicating buzz soon cured, but whatever the reason she knew she was going to take the opportunity and milk him of every kredit he had.

The night was going well for everyone involved, the mysterious rich Cajjinx was enjoying himself very much, even as his bank account grew emptier. The waiter lass was about to call it a good night when a strange looking human walked into the saloon, bold as brass expectorating into the spittoon. Most everyone ignored him as he strode across the room boots clacking on the wooden floor before taking a seat at the bar next to the rich Cajjinx and waiter lass.

“Whisky hon, and bring it fast. I’ve been to every bar in this damned station town looking for this here man. I haven’t gotten to drink once and I’m thirstier than a desert locked tumbleweed.” The waitress eyed the stranger, a look of bemusement on her face. The man waited patiently for a moment before tipping his cattle hat. “Yes, I know I’m dashing, just, th’ drink please. I’ve got business with my quarry here.”

“You’re in these here parts illegal mister.” The waitress accused at last, gathering enough wits to challenge this intruder. “Humans ‘r banned from Cajjy space, by law ya know. I ought to call th’ coppers on ya.”

“Oh that really wouldn’t be necessary. I’m Sheriff Jean Wylder after all, no need to be all repetitious with more lawmen. I’m sure I could handle any illegals on my own.”

The wealthy Cajjinx who was looking rather ill began to stand up, slurring some excuse under his breath. Faster than a snake’s bite Jean’s hand whipped down to his waist unsheathing a dangerous looking pistol. Keeping the weapon hidden under the bar’s lip Jean motioned for the Cajjinx to retake his seat, a new deadly hint plainly evident in his voice. “Now we don’t want no mess do we? So I suggest we all play nice and talk this out like reasonable folk over a shot of whisky. Wouldn’t you agree honey? So why don’t ya amble over to them bottles nice and pleasant like, get us something to drink so we can discuss our problems out together.”

The waiter lass stood, eyeing Jean maliciously. “I’m gonna call th’ coppers. There ain’t no weapons allowed in here. Ya need to leave ‘afore ya get ya’self killed human!”

“No, don’t!” The wealthy Cajjinx grabbed the waitress’s arm, stopping her from striding over to the holophone.

“Oh Bart’s also wanted here.” Jean explained. “Even in Cajjy space he’s a hunted man. Smart of you to come here by the way, it was like number fifty on my list of where I’d find you sulking."

“Just bring us drinks.” The wealthy Cajjinx urged. “I’ll handle him.” He said this final part a little louder, and through the smoke gloom a few of the nearby Cajjinx miners began taking an interest in the goings on at the bar.

Jean didn’t seem to notice, instead focusing his attention on the Cajjinx seated next to him, his pistol kept pointed at the Cajjinx’s groin. “So, Barty, Barty, my Bart. You’ve been a bad boy as of late. Your wanted alive, and my what a bounty.” Jean gave a low whistle, settling back into his bar stool. “So, remind me. What’s it you’ve been doing that’d get you such a high price to see you locked away for good?”

“Smuggling…”

“And?”

“Money laundering…”

“And…?”

“…”

“Nothing else ya wanna to admit too, that’s all ya did wrong? But I know better, sneaking hundreds of untraceable kredits ya stole from hard working folk back on system Juplif wasn’t enough for ya was it. No, of course not. You had to go an’ murder Detective Vincent while ya were about it too!”

Bart slammed his fist down on the bar a look of horrified anger. “You have no proof of that Sheriff! I didn’t murder the detective, he died from an accident that was tragic and unavoidable. Your own personal vendetta against me is bad enough, but I will not stand by and be accused of crimes I didn’t commit!”

“Ya murdered him, and I’ll prove it too!”

The two men seemed about to go to blows, guns aside when the waitress returned with two whisky glasses which she set down beside them. Jean reached for his with his free hand downing it in a single gulp. The waiter lass gave a slight giggle, which Jean, still angry from his confrontation with Bart snapped at.

“What are ya guffawing ‘bout?”

“Nothin’, sorry mister. I ain’t laughing at nothin’.”

Jean turned back to Bart, sizing the Cajjinx up and down. Slowly he raised the pistol until it pointed straight between the alien’s eyes.
“Come clean you son of a bitch, you murdered Detective Vincent.”

“No. I. Didn’t. Don’t think you can sentence me to your gallows so easily Sheriff. I know your rules, if you bring me in dead ya don’t get your reward. You’re a dirty cop trying to strike it rich. Accuse me of what you want, you’ll never get that out of me!”

“You’re talking mighty bold for someone who just wet himself Bart.”

“And you’re talking mighty bold for someone who’s outnumbered and outgunned.” It was Bart’s turn to smile defiantly as the clicks of many hammers and bolts being drawn back sounded all around. The waiter lass laughed aloud this time, and many others joined her in the chorus of good humor. Jean on the other hand looked stony faced.

“Things’ll be worse for ya if’n ya kill a lawman Bart. Tell ya boys to back off.”

“You forget where we are Sheriff, this ain’t Tejaxs. This here is Cajjy space and you’re not welcome round these parts.”

“Bet’cha I could shoot six of y’all ‘afore I go down. Includin’ you Bart. Wanna test my iron?” Jean, clearly grasping at straws began to slowly stand, the iron sights of a dozen weapons following his movements.

“No, not at all.” Bart agreed, rising with the cornered Sheriff. “Which is why you’ll have to search for your jackpot elsewhere. Lest you make the same mistake as the good Detective. Accidents are bound to happen to the foolhardy. My boys’ll escort you out Sheriff.”

A low growl rumbled in Jean’s throat but he had no other choice. Keeping his pistol centered on Bart’s face in an attempt to maintain the tiny bit of control he had left over the situation he began to back away. “I’ve been in tighter spots before Barty, Detective Vincent will get his justice. And all y’all get yours too.” Jean took a step and suddenly swayed like drunken man, as if he was struggling to stay balanced. The Cajjinx miners tensed a hairs-breadth away from shooting the Sheriff dead, thinking this was some kind of ploy to catch them off guard.

“What th’ Hell is wrong with you?” Bart said at last, once it became clear this was no trick. “One glass o’ whiskey did that to ya?”

“He drugged!” The waitress lass crowed, having been about to burst from keeping secret her own play in the dangerous game. “I put it in his drink, he’s helpless, hahaha!”

Jean Wylder gave the waitress one last look of pure fury before succumbing to the drug’s effects and toppling to the dirty floor. The Cajjinxes joined in with the waitress’s laughter, and even Bart, despite his soiled under garments joined in.

“I suppose I’m lucky to have such a smart and beautiful friend.” He quipped planting a kiss on the waitress’s fuzzy head. The lass’s many arms quivered and she hugged the Bart close.

“I’ll be your friend long as ya keep paying for drinks mister.”

“Wot should we do with him?” One of the Cajjinx miners asked, kicking at Jean’s limp body. The Sheriff was very much still conscious. He’d lost all control of his body, and try as he might no amount of will power could convince even his little finger to move.

“I don’t care,” Bart said distracted, having become very interested in the waitress all of a sudden. “Take him outside, rough him up a bit and toss him off a bridge. Find some way to get rid of him, he’s spoiling the atmosphere. Just don’t been seen by any law enforcement. Remember I’m still a wanted man ‘round here.”

Three of the drunker Cajjinx, jumping at the chance to off the Sheriff stepped forward assuring they would handle it. Taking Jean by his hair and arms they dragged him outside onto the filthy street and proceeded to do just that…

Juniper sat quietly on the edge of a small cliff side, her legs dangling off, swaying back and forth easily. A slight breeze rustled her short black hair, making it wave around the nape of her neck. It felt nice against her skin, and she shut her eyes, breathing in slowly through her nose, simply taking in her surroundings with every sense she had. She could hear water flowing nearby down the rocks of the cliff, animals moving and rustling around, calling out to their fellow friends. She could smell the light from Theonia's suns and it warmed her skin in contrast to the cool air. When she finally opened her eyes again, they gazed down passed her feet, noting the homes and hanging pods, which were used in a similar manner. There were many little villages on her planet like this, and one main city where the more high tech buildings and things were, named Ozloron. She lived part time in Ozloron, part time in her village, Aslens. Aslens forests were gorgeous, filled with creatures of all kinds, bio-luminescent plants and water, peaceful and calm.

Turning her head, she saw a brightly colored bird, though tiny at only 3 inches high, chirping toward her. Juniper held her hand out, and the bird moved and jumped into her warm, open palm. "What do you say, Fidget? Should we head home?" The bird simply stared at her, and chirped a little louder.

With that Juniper shifted her weight, jumping forward while kicking off of the cliffs edge and suddenly transformed. Her features went from human to avian, a copy cat version of Fidget, but bigger. Her hair lengthened and shifted into feathers, her nose and mouth into a small beak, and so on. This only took a few moments, and she was then gliding downward toward Ozloron, Fidget right beside her to keep her company. Her eyes smiled as she gazed down at her home from above, before tilting her tail and upper body downward, dive bombing town toward the forest floor. Just as she neared the ground though, she shifted back into her human form, landing in a run. Fidget landed on her shoulder in the same instant, and Juniper kept up her pace, headed straight for the heart of the city, through the forests, running along a special path she had created when she was younger, since she spent a lot of her time hiding away there.

The closer she got to Ozloron though, the tighter her stomach knotted. Something was wrong. She could smell dust and fire, and hear space vessels hovering around. And not just one of them. The sound was deafening as she entered the city limits, and she turned her gaze upward. Fidget was going crazy on her shoulder, panic in her tone as she chirped. Juniper grabbed the bird carefully and shoved her into a small pocket like area in the side of her dress.

"Shh..." Juniper whispered.

Fidget went quiet, and Juniper slowly tried to take in her surroundings, staying half hidden behind a stone wall. She could just barely make out the outline of the ships above her, a giant plume of dark grey smoke masking the sky's true beauty. She noticed the ships weren't in any type of special formation, and they weren't really moving around at the moment. Despite knowing that whoever the ships belonged to, were the ones who were attacking, she couldn't see any specific organization to the assault. Her perfect brows furrowed together, her amber eyes moving back to the area directly in front of her. She needed to make it to the city towers, and find her parents. All Juniper really wanted to do was cry. Her planet had been under attack for some time, and always resulted in casualties. The population on her planet was almost nothing at this point, and through it all she tried to stay strong, hiding and attempting to keep as many people safe as possible. Every attack happened outside of Ozloron though, so she never had an immediate need to worry. Villages could be rebuilt. The city would take much more time, Kredits and effort.

Instead of letting herself cry however, Juniper took Fidget from her pocket, and placed her on top of the stone wall. "Find me after. Stay safe."

Juniper then inhaled a deep breath, and shifted into a common creature on her planet, one might consider a "cat". Quickly she skittered along the cobblestone, making a bee line directly for the towers. Once she was about a third of the way to the tower, and it loomed over her, she heard another deafening explosion. And it was a little too close for comfort. She snapped her head back over her shoulder and saw the road and buildings behind and around her were blown to bits and on fire, smoke filtering into the air at a rapid pace. She whimpered slightly, and finally neared the main entrance.

She shifted back into her human form, brushing dirt and ash from her body and then entered the building. She began to run again to search for her parents, and nearly ran into them as they were likewise running toward her. Her mother's hair was in a mess, little beads of sweat dripping off her face. Her father held her mothers' hand, tugging her along.

"Mom! Dad! We need to go down, to the bunkers. C'mon!" Juniper exclaimed, panic in her voice. Her mother's head piece shifted to the side slightly, and she adjusted it. Her fingers lingering slightly, trying to hide the worry in her face. Juniper took both of their hands and ran as fast as she could with them, down many flights of stairs. The stairs lead under ground, where one decent sized bunker was hidden, in case of situations just as this. Two guards stood outside of a huge thick metal door. It had one window made with bullet, bomb and fire proof material. The guards both nodded, their faces blank and their demeanor unwavering. Juniper shoved toward the door, turning the huge handle and opening it.

She stepped inside all the way, turning around to make sure her parents were following, but the last thing she saw was the bunker door slamming shut, her parents faces on the other side for a brief moment before watching as they got crushed beneath the weight and rubble of the towers being blown to bits. She slammed her fists against the bunker door, screaming until her throat was sore, her voice gone. She slid down the door, curling up into a ball on the concrete floor, sobbing silently into her knees.

After receiving his next contract Emmett must travel to a small planet called Utania in the Uranion galaxy. Remembering that the best pilot in the galaxy that he was aware of, had work at the market of Amradan, in the Maxos Galaxy Emmett sought out his mostly used traveling buddy, Ursa Cooper. Knowing that this was on the way he figured it would be alright seeing as Ursa never rejects payment especially when she doesnt have to use extra fuel. After being dropped off on the planet Utania, Emmett wandered into the small town that his contract was supposed to be living in. He wandered around looking for the bank, which the contract works at. He wandered in and just his luck there he was right in front.

Good day sir, is there anything i can help you with here today?

Ah yes, I'd like to make a withdraw of 50,000 Kredits

Okay, sir that's a fairly large amount is there any reason in particular? like is it for business or pleasure?

You could say it's a bit of both the number is 113

Okay sir let me go and get it. We will take you into the private room just bring in your key.

Ieth goes into the back to grab the deposit box labeled 113. Emmett continues to the privacy room as he does, he continues to watch security and find the easiest way out after he eliminates Ieth.

Okay here you go sir, you have your key right?

Reaching into his pocket oh darn i think i forgot it i thought i had it right here. You know what how about i take the money from you. With a swift motion Emmett impales Ieth with his hidden blade while also covering his mouth.

Honestly i was surprised you even had that high of a number i just used my favorite number hoping it would work. Emmett says to Ieth's lifeless body. He wipes his blade on his jacket and looks through his pockets for his id and anything of value to Ieth for proof that he was killed. Ah this might make my getaway Emmett says as he takes the keys to Ieth's ship. Emmett then hides the body so he would have a lot more time to get out.

Emmett leaves the bank in a fashion not to look suspicious so he can get away from the bank unnoticed, gets in the ship and leaves before any one notices. As he starts up the ship the last thing he hears is a shrieking noise coming from the bank. Looking at his watch New record. i must be getting sloppy if it only took them this long to find him He pulls out heading back to deliver the news and collect the payment on Ieth's head.

Ursa looked down at the mapping table pensively, moving her finger over a few planets before resting on one, "Here. Didn't we have reports that Theonia was attacked? What do you say, Anna?"

An older woman with two dark black eyes and zebra striped skin looked up from her computer, "Yeah, from what I hear the planet has been under attack for months, but casualties are basically ziltch...Plus...they are known for their Ragar Fuel mines. Earth government has been trying to work out a mining deal for years, but the locals won't budge. The plans were put on hold when they started to be attacked though."

Ursa smirked, "So what your saying is it's a planet with free fuel, probably wealthy goods and it's completely abandoned. Well, I suppose we should respect the recently dead and bypass it for Agrathea our regular port."

There was a brief silence around the room before Ursa let out a laugh, "Hah...Just kidding. Fuck the dead. Set a course Takashi, and Mac prepare the shovels for the men if they want a take of what we find, they are digging for it. EVEN YOU METE!"

A fat little goblin-looking, creature, poked his head around his small seat/scooter, his voice a harsh squeak,"Fuck you. I'm on Jenny Craig's Goblanax diet. I already lost 3 pounds."

Ursa laughed walking over to the corner of the cockpit where a small ledge by the window was suited with a small green plaid pillow,"Three pounds. Look at you go girl. Work it honey bear, work it!"

She sat down on the ledge and picked up her current book, the paper slightly worn and rare. Paper books were banned eon's ago, but Ursa couldn't get enough of them. She had more kredits then she could handle with her smuggling business but she didn't see much use in paying for luxury when she never really traveled anywhere luxurious. She did, however, spend quite a fine buckeroo on books. Her library was her treasure, taking her to new worlds everytime she opened a page. She read whatever came her way to, whether it be Dalai Maroon's, 'Philosophical Understanding of a Garbage Cruiser' or Morticai Tim's 'History of the Eight Moon's of Glamora.' she would eat it up. Her favorite was fiction though and the one she had sitting on her lap was a fantasy western with a classic cowboy heading off into danger to save the galactic princess Enchantra from the Robots of Gaboon. She was just getting into a juicy romantic part in the novel where Leroy Hawkins was going to kiss Enchantra when suddenly Takashi spoke up, "We are just a few miles off now, Coop."

Ursa sighed, closing the novel with a soft thud as she hopped down and headed towards Anna, "Is the planet fine for oxygen levels or will we need the suits?"

Anna shrugged,"I think we should be fine. Theonia Z17 has a large botanical inventory that sustains high oxygen levels on the planet, even with the attacks there are still many remote areas that haven't been touched. Only cities have been hit."

"Which city are we landing on?" Ursa asked casually, looking through the large window to see the planet growing larger as they came up within range of it.

Anna spoke evenly,"Ozloron? I think. It's hard to tell with our camera's. I haven't been to this planet before but the map coordinates match with the GPS."

Ursa nodded placing her hands on her hips, remaining quiet as the ship descended on the planet. It took some time to find an area that was flat enough to land, but eventually, they came across a spot and headed out onto the planet's surface. Ursa walked out, looking around at what once would have been a beautiful city, but was nothing more than rubble, broken glass and bones. The smell of smoke, burnt wood and blood filled the area, but also a tinge of fresh forest and running water could be identified a few miles off. Ursa took a few steps forward, kicking a few of the stones away to find a small burlap doll, set with one button eye and a leaf. She picked it up, a sigh leaving her body, "Fucking assholes.." Before she could let the real tragedy of this planet get to her she turned to her crew and chucked the doll aside, "Alright. Take a shovel, collect whatever you can sell and if you find some fuel cans you get 300 extra credits. Find a barrel you get 500. We can only stay here for a few hours before the Armada is going to start sending out tracker ships. Now start digging bitches."

She headed back towards the ship when Mac placed his hand on her shoulder,"Where are you going?"

She looked at him, raising her tattooed eyebrow,"To read."

He shook his head,"Nope. Take a shovel and get busy, you don't work for free on this ship."

She gave a half-hearted retort as he handed her a shovel and pushed her towards the rubble,"But...But...I'm the captain. I get the privilege of putting my crew to work. Ow...Hey, this is bullshit.."

Mac shook his head, "You sound like a child. You work for Jerry still Coop. Which means you pull your load you lazy bugger. Now get to it."

Ursa dropped her lower jaw then pulled off her jacket so that her tattooed shoulders were exposed to the elements. She muttered to herself,"You're a child...What's the point of being captain if you can't tell people what to do..might as well just call me Cooper the crewmate who doesn't shut up."

The crew spoke up in unision, "SHUT UP!" They all began laughing as she sighed shaking her head, striking her shovel in the rubble and started digging.

-------------------------------------------------

After a few hours, Ursa was covered in sweat along with most of her crew, and all they found was a few high-end statuettes, paintings, and three tanks of fuel. Takashi walked over to Ursa with some water, "Here. I've given some to the men to. The stream actually has some pretty clean water to drink."

Ursa thanked him before downing the cool water quickly when suddenly a large tan colored crew member with aquamarine eyes and long black hair ran up, "Hey, we think we found something. Dill and some of the other boys that have been to the planet before think they could find where the bank is located. We used some of our larger unearthing tools to take out some rubble and we found a bunker. We figured you'd want to head in first."

Ursa handed her shovel and water to Takashi,"The bank? OH HELL YEAH! Show me where it is Darian!"

She headed over moving towards an awkwardly shaped hole that led deep into the rubble, a few of her men crowded the entrance but weren't getting too close. She followed Darian into the hand-made tunnel, a crew member handing her a flashlight as they came to a sealed door. She touched the cool metal, knocking once before placing an ear to it to see if she heard anything. Nothing. She pulled back, "Anyone thinks it was a good idea to go grab some hammers or the lock picking tools?"

Everyone gave her sheepish looks, "I really question your guys' initiative sometimes."

She looked at the door for a few minutes before moving over to chuck a few stones away from the wall beside it. She knocked lightly in a few areas before she took a step back and pulled out her gun, shooting the wall beside the door in an even circle. After the shooting had ceased she turned on her heel and kicked the area she had shot a crack echoing through her little tunnel. She paused before kicking again when suddenly the wall collapsed leaving a dark black hole in its wake. Ursa took a breath before taking out her other gun and pointing it into the room,"Honey, Momma's home! Hope no ones naked in there! Wouldn't want to be surprised."

A deathly silence was her response. She shrugged and headed into the room, her men following in behind her, using their lights to expose the room. No gold. No cash. No fuel. Just a few beds, water, and a BOOKSHELF! Ursa squealed, "We struck gold!!!! Dill, you rock!"

The man who was green all over with little bumps covering his body blushed purple, "Awe! Thanks Ursa."

She ran over to the shelf picking up a few scrolls and books, as the men sighed, irritated that there was no kredits or jewelry to be seen "Take all of these and bring them to my quarters. Gods, they're gorgeous. I have a few already but we can sell these copies on the black market for a few kredits."

Darian and a few of the other crew members grabbed the rest of the books and headed out of the room, with Ursa in tow, cradling the books lovingly back towards the ship. After a few more hours Mac called the search off and everyone headed back in so they could blast off towards the next port. There they could rest up before they went to drop off the crystals to the buyer. Another job completed. Ursa was exhausted and smelled like a water buffalo from the planet Aquaria, so she figured a shower was well due. Once they were up in the air, she decided to turn in for a few hours, the excitement of the day wearing thin. She headed down the hallway towards her room when Anna came forward heading towards the kitchens. Ursa walked a few feet before she stopped turning, "Hey Anna."

Anna stopped and turned to look at her,"Yes?"

Ursa gave a wide smile before walking over,"Thanks for all your help today. It was just our luck that you visited here before!"

Anna took a step back, "No problem. I help where I can."

Ursa looked down towards the ground itching her neck "Of course...Problem is, Anna wasn't the one who traveled here before. Dill did." suddenly she pulled out her gun and aimed it at Anna's head her expression turning serious,"Look asshole. I don't know who you are, or how you got through my radars, but if you don't show me your real face quickly, I am gonna give you a new one."

Jean Wylder could accurately recall a number of instances where he’d been in considerably more discomfort than in his current situation. Such as that time when he’d nearly frozen to death on the tundra of Palpetometha, or when he'd received his frost burns and plasma wounds from his first encounter with Cibby. All of those circumstances aside the current beating he was now receiving from the drunken Cajjinxs ranked very high on that list. Their large slimy fists pounded his defenseless form again and again, punctuated by kicks to the face and groin. One of the brutes even smashed every bone in his right hand by pounding his metal heel into the callused appendage. Jean held through all of it unable to even groan or cry out due to his total paralysis, forced to suffer every painful blow. It seemed like hours, days, weeks of torture before Jean was finally released by the total void of unconsciousness.

When Jean came to it felt as if his body was aflame. Pain flared from every nerve protesting their brutal treatment. Blood filled his mouth and nose making it hard to breathe and large angry welts kept his eyes squinted shut. Jean clenched his left hand wishing the agony away.

Wait! Jean clenched his hand again feeling the muscles respond to his commands. A sense of relief washed over him. It was comforting to be back in some control again, the effects of the drugs must have been wearing off. So he wasn’t dead yet…

“Day cycles are short ‘ere on Nethplume.” One of his Cajjinx tormentors was saying. They must’ve grown bored with assaulting him when they realized he’d passed out. “We need to find someplace no one will find him. Any ideas Garth?”

“I arrived with ya bud, how in fuck sake would I know more than y’all?”

Jean wiggled his big toe.

“Just grab him, I’ll check th’ holomaps for someplace to dump him. Any old mineshaft or alley will do. We’re leaving today.”

Rough hands grabbed ahold of Jean’s jacket and the three Cajjinx began dragging him away. A trail of blood following in their wake. Darkness still held sway over the town hiding it in shadow. The three continued muttering to each other but Jean ignored them, instead opening his eyes ever so slightly to take stalk of his situation. Apparently he was facing downward, while two of them held onto fistfuls of his clothing for purchase. And right there a mere three inches from his face was none other than a shiny new blaster pistol, freshly bought and fitted snugly into a leather holster. Jean grinned despite of himself, clenching and unclenching his left hand. He’d have to use his left, his right was currently out of commission. It’d be tough but Jean reckoned he could whip the pistol out, shoot the two holding him before they could react, and blast the third before he could draw iron. What did have to lose?

“There be a Riverwalk ‘bout half a mile from ‘ere. We’ll walk down fifth to avoid any curious folk an’ cut across this ‘ere pleasure field to shave off time. Lookie ‘ere.” The two Cajjinx lugging Jean stopped walking and leaned forward to see what their companion was pointing out. Jean lashed out, his famous speed shown in high regard. Easily snagging ahold of the pistol and wrapping his finger around the trigger.

Unfortunately Jean wasn’t his usual self after his recent beating, and having to use his left hand didn’t help. Jean jerked hard on the pistol grip but couldn’t force it from the sheath. A cry rang out from the Cajjinx he was attacking who reached to force Jean’s hand away. In the split second struggle, the pistol went off. A spray of charred flesh exploded everywhere, the plasma ripping straight through leather, flesh, and bone before burrowing a few feet into the ground. The Cajjinx screamed, falling backward in agony and releasing Jean at the same time. The other two having realized what was happening bellowed in surprise, one jumping to take hold of Jean while the other reached for his own weapon.

Three more blaster bolts lit up the quiet corner flashing two green and one red. A single bolt zipping away into the sky only to be lost from sight moments later. Jean, no longer supported by the Cajjinx’s hand fell wincing as he hit the concrete road. The fight wasn’t over yet. Even as he tried to sit up Jean felt someone grab his leg. Without hesitation Jean aimed in that general direction firing six times in a desperate fury. He counted out five seconds, waiting for the pressure on his leg to subside. Then with the satisfying sound of a collapsing organic body the screaming stopped and silence reigned supreme.

~*~*~*~*~

The early hours of morning brought many headaches with it within Gruta’s Saloon. More than a few Cajjinx miners were sprawled across the tables snoring. Others were wrapping up the night preparing to stagger their way back to the mining ship. Due to Gurta’s distractions with Bart she’d not bothered to close at the customary hour, and so even though the tavern emptied of most of the local assemblage most of the Cajjinx remained.

At the bar Bart was feeling a lot better after his encounter with Sheriff Jean Wylder. The vengeful human would soon be dead if he wasn’t already. And it would take who knew how many cycles before someone found his body, and the human ban in Cajjy space would mean the wrong questions would be asked in regards to his demise. It was the perfect accident to tie up the final loose ends to this entire debacle. Eyes drooping from exhaustion the Cajjinx smuggler stood up, stretching and yawning.

“T’was a pleasure meeting ya miss Gurta. I wish you and this establishment well in the future to come.” He tweaked her fuzzy chin, a wry grin on his face. “Maybe I’ll stop by to visit sometime, I could never forget what you did for me. T’was very courageous.”

“No problem mister. Feel free to come on back If’n ya ever flyin’ by.”

“He ain’t coming back for a long time hon!” At that moment the saloon door burst open off its hinges flying inward to crush a table under its massive weight. Metal bolts, bits of durafiber and chunks of wood flew in every direction. None other than Jean Wylder forced his way into the alehouse astride his massive spughoss Leeroy. The great beast reared scattered tables and Cajjinxes alike. “It’s me bitches! And I went n’ brought the cavalry this time! Yeehaw!”

“Shoot him you idiots, shoot him!” Bart screamed, hurling himself over the bar counter as plasma bolts began flying. The ancient wooden walls burst into flame as wild shots sank into the flammable material, adding to the general chaos of the scene. Jean shot with all his renowned skill dropping any Cajjinx that dared stir, his spreadshot Spacechester in hand. The shotgun nullified the weak hastily taken cover the aliens attempted to hide behind, and within moments those who weren’t passed out drunk were either dead or dying. Some slain outright by Jean, others stomped down under Leeroy’s hooves. Guiding the snorting spughoss over to the bar counter Jean leered over at the cowering Bart.

“Howdy there, I’d appreciate my pistol back.” Jean jerked away, narrowly dodging a red bolt from his own pistol which Bart now held. “Motherfucker, listen close Bart. I could blast ya dead even if you're hide back there. But I still wanna talk. And you have a date with lady justice back on Juplif. So do th cowardly thing, toss me up my gun, then stand up and reach for th’ sky.”

“Don’t shoot, I’ll come out!” Bart cried from behind the bar, and a moment later the pistol clattered onto the surface. Setting the shotgun into his saddle holster Jean scooped up his pistol, checking to make sure no damage was done. Tapping the barrel on the countertop Jean cocked the hammer back pointing it in Bart’s general direction.

“Stand up where I can see ya.”

“This place is on fire.” Bart insisted, nevertheless doing as he was told. Both of his webbed hands stretched high over his head. “We need to leave.”

“I want some answers first Barty. Did you murder, or arrange th’ killing of Detective Vincent?”

“No! I had nothing to do with that. They arranged his accident not me, all I knew was that he would no longer be bothering my run.”

Jean mulled this over for a moment, not seeming to care that the fire was spreading fast and smoke was filling up the saloon. “Whose they?”

“I don’t know. Not really. You know how these things go, they’re careful. And dangerous.” Bart explained. “They took care of any problems and I delivered the kredits right to their fleet. That’s it. Please you gotta believe me.”

The roof creaked ominously and in the distance sirens could be heard.

“Where were you delivering too?” Jean asked at last, releasing the pressure on the hammer, sheathing the pistol into its holster. Looking very relieved Bart lowered his hands a little, a more cynical tone in his voice.

“Ozloron, Theonia, err Z17 I think. I was supposed to give it to the commander of the fleet. I’d get paid my bit then I’d be free to go. They’re undergoing some kind of invasion, I wasn’t filled in on any more than that. But I’ll tell you more, everything I know, just please get me out of here before we all die.”

Jean’s brow creased. “Theonia’s being invaded…” Using his heels Jean guided the big stallion around making a beeline for the entrance, even as the flames rose licking greedily at the bar, spreading faster than ever thanks to the spilt liquor.

“Wait, wait what about me?” Bart cried, not yet confident enough to lower his hands.

“The Cajjy law can deal with y’all. If any of y’all live through the fire.” Jean turned in the saddle, touching the rim of his hat to the shocked Cajjinx. “I’ve got a bigger steer to break. See ya ‘round Barty. I wish ya Hell.”

Juniper was startled by the sounds of crunching, banging, and voices. Her eyes widened and she stood up abruptly, the tears having left dry streaks on her cheeks. She brushed herself off, looking around for a place to hide. There was no way to tell who was on the other side of the rubble outside of her door. It was possible that it was locals, but the chances were slim.

Instinctively, Juniper shifted into a black shrew, and skittered into the corner near the bookshelf. There wasn’t much in this bunker. Some provisions to keep from dehydration and hunger, a bed, the book shelf with important documents and a few random books, a sink and toilet. Suddenly there was the sound of gunfire, and a piece of the wall flew inward toward the middle of the room.

A woman walked into the room, her eyes almost immediately coming to rest on the bookshelf. Books must not be a common object where she is from, Juniper thought. She took in her features, teal hair surrounding a slender tattooed face. She was attractive, and Juniper shifted just slightly closer to get a better look. Some men followed in behind her, and Juniper learned the woman’s name was Ursa.

Once Ursa and her crew were finished gathering whatever they wanted to take, they turned their backs to the bunker and began their way back onto whatever ship they had used to get there in the first place. Juniper didn’t want to be left alone here though, so she carefully launched herself from the ground, up the bookshelf and onto the back of Ursa’s jacket, the color hiding Juniper perfectly.

Finally aboard the ship, Juniper jumped down off of Ursa’s jacket and ran towards the edge of the wall, looking for someone or something aboard she could shift into, to go unnoticed. A woman walked by heading somewhere away from them, and luckily it seemed as though Ursa didn’t notice. Juniper changed again, her skin shifting from the black fur to zebra striped, and Juniper brushed herself off once the transformation was complete, and she began to walk in the direction away from Ursa.

Ursa gave a yawn her body aching after shovelling for the past couple hours. She smelled absolutely nasty and figured she should go shower before they took off. Before she got to her room though a few crewmates came up with an inventory list asking her to overlook what they had pillaged from the planet. She took the list and looked it over, “Well it wasn’t particularly the best haul we’ve had..but it will be a couple extra kredits on top of what we earn for the crystals. Thanks boys.”

They clapped Ursa on the back then headed on their way. She smiled happy that her crew seemed in good spirits. Anna walked by with Kira an earthling with fire red hair and wolf tattoos. They waved to her as she went by. She kept moving, turning down a few more hallways cutting through a few passageways to head down towards her room when she came across Anna going past her towards the kitchens. Ursa walked a few feet before she stopped. Wait a minute. No way she could make it down here that fast! She turned to face the girl, "Hey Anna."

Anna stopped and turned to look at her, "Yes?"

Ursa gave a wide smile before walking over, "Thanks for all your help today. It was just our luck that you visited here before!"

Anna took a step back, "No problem. I help where I can."

Ursa looked down towards the ground itching her neck "Of course… Problem is, Anna wasn't the one who traveled here before. Dill did." Suddenly she pulled out her gun and aimed it at Anna's head her expression turning serious, "Look asshole. I don't know who you are, or how you got through my radars, but if you don't show me your real face quickly, I am gonna give you a new one."

Juniper’s amber colored eyes widened at the gun being pointed in her face. Immediately without any hesitation, she shifted back into her normal human form. Her black hair was a mess around her face, and the blue silk necklace around her throat hung loosely. She reached up to show she wouldn’t be a threat, her words a gentle whisper, and her eyes wide. She wore a white colored dress, made of pieces of plant from her planet, the edges of the detail colored green.

“Please don’t shoot. I was trapped down there…” When first hearing Juniper talk, you’d think she would be from planet Earth, from the London area. But it had a shadow of something else as well.

Ursa watched in slight amazement as Anna changed into a young but very pretty girl. She guessed her age was around 17 but she couldn’t be sure, “So you’re a local? Shit.”

She pulled the gun away and put it back into her holster letting out a yawn before walking forward, “Alright. Follow me.”

She walked forward towards the kitchen area, her sway casual and confident. When she entered the kitchen area she noted that they were alone. She pointed to the large rust covered island in the center of the room, “Sit.”

She then walked over to a cupboard over in the corner, opening it to expose a wide variety of cans, dried goods and some bottles. She pulled one bottle down then grabbed two cups from a cabinet and walked over to the young girl placing a cup in front of her, before pouring some of the amber coloured liquid into it, “Here. I think the destruction of your homeland warrants a drink if anything else.”

She sat back on a stool and poured herself one, lifting the glass up for a clink, “Cheers?”

Ursa guided Juniper to the kitchen area, and told her to sit down. She did as she was told, and watched as the woman poured each of them a drink. The liquid was the same color as her eyes, and she tilted her head slightly. She looked around the room curiously, taking in the details of the cupboards and cookware, the lights and decoration. Juniper lifted the glass slightly and Ursa clinked her own against it. Juniper’s brow furrowed and she sipped the drink hesitantly. When she swallowed it burned her throat, and she pushed the glass away as an automatic instinct to get rid of it.

She trembled, gagging at the taste and stared at Ursa. “Are you trying to poison me?”

Ursa downed the liquid in one go before she dropped the cup back on the countertop and laughed, “Haha. No. If I wanted to kill you I would have plugged you in the hallway back there.” She lifted Juniper’s glass and downed it as well, “See..Not poison. It’s a gesture. This liquid costs more than this ship, kid.”

She yawned, “So...What’s your name?”

Juniper watched as Ursa downed her drink as well, telling her it was a gesture. She could understand that, and knew things were different everywhere. “My name is Juniper Niahm. And you are Ursa.” She said it as a fact, though she didn’t know, nor really needed to know Ursa’s last name. “Were you the one attacking Theonia Z17?” She asked bluntly, her eyes watching Ursa’s face.

Ursa turned leaning against the countertop as she crossed her legs speaking in a matter of fact, and slightly bored voice, “First off..it’s Ursa Cooper. Second off. You have the courtesy of being on my ship so I will be the one asking the questions, and third off. No. I am not responsible for attacking Theonia, I am just here to look for fuel and take some goods so I can sell them on the black market.”

She stood up moving towards the fridge to take out a small container of leftover Plasmagetti. She grabbed two forks then walked over to Juniper setting it down in front of her, thinking she would probably be hungry, “Before you ask me who did attack your planet...I have no idea. I don’t really follow planet politics. Hungry?”

Juniper’s eyes shifted downward, though she could hear Ursa moving and gathering things from the room. At least Ursa didn’t murder her right off the bat, she thought. Her lip began to quiver when Ursa mentioned she didn’t attack Theonia Z17, and didn’t know who was responsible. She had been crying for what seemed like days, but again tears fell from her face onto the island counter.

Ursa asked if she was hungry as well, and Juniper barely looked up at the container of weird noodly looking food. Her nose scrunched, her mind wanting to say no, though her stomach growled in protest. Instead of giving a yes or no answer, Juniper simply shrugged, reaching for the fork. She felt sick to her stomach, and wasn’t sure whether it was the hunger, death of her parents, or the fact her planet had been destroyed. And thinking about it, she wasn’t sure whether or not her planet had been fully destroyed. She looked up again, unsure whether she was allowed to ask, since Ursa said she shouldn’t ask questions.

Ursa’s confident smile faltered when she saw the girl was genuinely upset. Well of course she would be you idiot. She just lost everyone she cared about. Ursa’s tone turned a little softer, her words slightly more calculated, “Look...I’m sorry, kid. I won’t be able to understand the loss you are facing or how you are going to face the future but I can however give you some food, take you somewhere safe and give you a couple space kredits so you can figure it out, okay?”

She gave a large creepy smile, trying to be comforting as she pulled her leg up onto the seat as Takashi walked in looking over at Ursa with a curious expression, “Uh...Hi?”

Ursa gave Takashi a bored expression, “Hey. This is Juniper. She’s a stowaway.”

Takashi paused for a second before nodding, “Cool! Hey Juniper! Did you finish the plasmagetti, Coop?”

She spoke evenly, “Yeah. Make some taquitos or something.”

He shrugged, “Fine…That was supposed to be mine.”

Ursa rolled her eyes then turned to Juniper, “This is Takashi. He’s a whiner.”

[i]Juniper looked at Takashi curiously, wanting to turn her attention away from Ursa’s weird smile. It was nice though that she was offering to help her out. She wondered where Ursa was planning to drop her off.

“Hello,” was all Juniper managed to say.

Ursa took a bite of the food in front of her before Takashi turned back to give Juniper a smirk, “So what are we doing with her then.”

Ursa slurped up a noodle, “We will drop her off in Agrathea. We have work there anyway and she could probably hitch a ride from someone there.”

Takashi eyed the girl quietly, “So we are just going to let her go...what if she tells someone about us?”

Ursa laughed, “She doesn’t even know who we are. Do you? She didn’t even blink when I told her my full name. Plus I believe in good karma. We help you out...you keep your mouth shut about us.”

She looked at Juniper evenly, “Right?”

“I don’t know anything about you. What would it benefit me to say?” Juniper said in response, gazing back evenly. She finished eating her part of the plasmaghetti and placed the fork down, breathing slowly.

“If my home wasn’t destroyed, I would still be there. But I doubt there is anything left for me. I won’t be any trouble,” Juniper said again, her voice extremely soft. She looked at Takashi for a moment, then back to Ursa.

“Is there a shower room I can use?” she asked, knowing she probably looked like a mess.

Ursa nodded, “See told you. Yeah! No problem kid! Takashi bring her to the guest room. She can stay there until we get to Agrathea.”

She stood up looking evenly at Juniper, “Also don’t try to leave unless one of us gets you. I am usually patient with stowaways but some of my crew won’t be. So no exploring. Got it?” She paused waiting for a response then said, “Good.”

She turned to Takashi, “Come grab me when we get within range of Agrathea and inform Mac of our guest.” She patted Juniper on the shoulder awkwardly before she headed out of the kitchen, “Alright. Have a good sleep, kid.” She walked out of the kitchen, making her way to her room.

Juniper followed Takashi to the guest room, and closed the door behind her after he said goodbye. She immediately searched for something clean to wear, and showered. The only clothing she could find was a simple white nightgown, and once she was finished her shower, she put it on. She combed through her hair with her fingers, and fixed the silk thread around her throat.

Looking around, she climbed into the bed, pulling up the covers completely over her head and curled up into a ball, falling into a deep sleep.

Emmett had reached the capitol within a few days after completing his contract. Once he arrived he had gone to collect his money so he could go and do what he did best, or rather second best. After he collected his bounty, he headed for the bar that the capitol was best known for. The Flaming Lute was known for having lots of different types of alcohol. From kinds that could put you to sleep peacefully or kinds that could fuck you up for months. Emmett headed in and ordered the usual and proceeded to watch the room, looking for his next "target". The one problem he faced was that most of the races that went there knew him fairly well, and know what he does.

"I'll have the usual, as always Sylnu" Emmett said as he sad down at the bar.

"Another contract down Emmett?" Sylnu Replied as he poured from the small draft system they had.

"Of course. You should know me by now; never stop working and I always get my guy." Emmett said as he took a swig of his drink.

"Didn't get caught I see," Sylnu said with a smirk on his face as he was cleaning a cup.

"Pffft me? Never." Tossing a coin "Here's the Payment. I'm going to head out, maybe turn in early."

Emmett left the tavern and headed home. The next day Emmett decided he would go traveling in his new spaceship (that he took from his last contract). He headed off to the Draconis Galaxy to see if there's any thing that would be new from his last visit. Once Emmett landed on the planet Ephus, he wandered the town just looking for exits and such like he always did. As he walked the quiet little town, he heard some arguing coming from down the road. Curious, Emmett walked towards the noise, and found there was a crowd of people standing around this woman who was bleeding from her arm. In front of her was standing a masked man with a knife.

"I wont ask you again, next time I will make it much deeper, and more painful. Now for the last time, where is the money you owe?" The masked man said, tossing the knife back and forth between his hands.

"Please I just need a bit more time. I am trying to come up with it but work has been slow." She said on the ground grabbing her arm where it was bleeding.

Emmett wandered over "Is there something wrong?" He said standing between them.

"Leave now or you will get hurt" The man said getting ready to attack.

"Oh? Is that a promise? Or are you just hoping to?" Emmett said in a mocking tone.

"Why you!" The man lunged at Emmett. Emmett stood there watching him, studying him to see if he can see the mans movements. After a second Emmett closed is eyes, and moved to the left an inch and the man completely missed. They danced around for a bit as Emmett had his eyes closed the whole time. As he kept avoiding the man was getting more and more angry and continued attacking in a rage.

"Stand still you piece of shit! Let me cut you."

"Well if I did that, this wouldn't be any fun," Emmett said in a mocking tone. "Well if this is all you have then I guess the fun will have to end," With a twist Emmett kicked the man across the face. With a bit of air, the man twisted around a couple of times before he hit the ground and was knocked unconscious.

"Excuse me sir what's your name?" She said, getting up while everyone in the crowd was talking to each other before dispersing.

Ripping the mans shirt, Emmett walked over to the lady and wrapped up her arm to help with the bleeding. "There that should stop the bleeding. My name?.. It's not really important."

"Oh well who ever you are I thank you for saving me. You're my hero!"

Taken aback "Uhh hero? No I'm no hero. In fact I'm more of an anti hero, but I'm also no villain. I just do what I get paid for. Even sometimes I don't get paid for it I still enjoy doing it."

She looked at him curiously, "What is it that you get paid for?"

Without hesitation and a smile "I kill people. How ever I don't kill innocent people, so you're safe in this case."

"Oh, thanks then. Look I don't have any money so I cant pay you for your help"

Emmett got a little closer to the woman. "Well if you truly want to pay me back, how about you accompany me to dinner? My treat of course."

The next day Emmett woke up and left the lady's house, got in his ship and traveled back home to get his next contract.

"AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A RAGNAR PARTY! AIN'T NO PARTY LIKE A RAGNAR PARTY!" Ursa woke up with a start the alarm filling her room with a bright neon blue light. She sat up slowly, her book falling to the ground as she rubbed her eyes. She smacked the little green box to get it to shut up before she hopped down to the ground itching her exposed stomach as she pulled down the window shutter a few centimeters before letting it roll up to expose the glow of deep space. She walked over to the stereo inserted in the side of the wall and clicked on her morning tunes. As the music filled her little room she scooted over to her wardrobe and propped it open pulling out a purple velvet bra, a dark blue crop top with the word, 'Brunchin' embroidered in a vibrant yellow. She pulled out some black jeans shaking slightly as she danced to the beat of the song. She turned to look in the mirror leaning forward only to flip her hair back, her hands running down her body to play an air guitar. She let out a small squeal, kicking away some clothes so she could find her brush. When she saw it she fell to her knees and picked it up brushing her hair in tune to the film, before throwing it away and shimmying down so her back was on the ground. She arched back lip syncing part of the song before she picked up some sunglasses, shoving them over her eyes as the beat went dead.

She sat up and let out a sigh before standing up and turning off the music. She then put on her trademark shoes and leather jacket before heading down the hall towards the cockpit. As she entered she walked over to Mac who handed her a mug with the word, 'Head Bitch' stamped on the side. She sipped the coffee slowly, "Thanks, sexy. Now, how we doin' are we close?"

He smirked at her comment, "Yeah we are close. Should be there in an hour. The crystals are packed and ready for shipment. We contacted Yondi and he and his crew will meet us at the drop off with his crew. Also, we got a new contract."

Ursa groaned, moving over to the large screen set into the table showing the map of the surrounding area. She scooted it over a few meters and spoke evenly, "Yeah I read it. We have to transport Mr. Flirt for a group within the Capitol. Money's good though so I accepted."

Mac laughed, "Figured you would. He really isn't that bad of a guy."

Ursa sipped her coffee and turned to give him a pointed stare, "Grow a set of tit's and see how nice he is then."

Mac laughed before speaking slowly, "Speaking about an extra set of tits. Takashi was telling me we have a guest?"

Ursa nodded briefly, "Shapeshifter. We saved her from the wreckage on Theonia. Posed as Anna before I caught her."

Ursa waved over Takashi as he entered and spoke to him aside from Mac, "Go tell, our stowaway that we arrive in an hour and bring her to the kitchen for some food. When we reach Agrathea make sure she finds her way on a respectable shuttle."

Her eyes drifted back to Mac, "Give her 500 kredits from my account before she leaves the Ranger, and you know damn well how I feel about stowaways, so don't give me that look. You have the balls to bust into my ship. You have the balls to earn my respect. Now let's motor. Yondi has my money." She paused at his look, "Our money."

She moved to the captain's seat and hiked her leg up on the armrest as Takashi and Mac headed to their own stations. She was being rude when it came to Juniper. She should give her a formal goodbye but to be honest she didn't find it necessary to see her again. Poor kid was a pit of misery and Ursa didn't want to see the waterworks if she had to. Plus the farther away the kid was from their business...the better. She looked out the window into deep space the barest dot of red blaring back at her in the distance. Agrathea..one of the large port planets in the business and the main hub for criminal activity. Control was based on the unwritten rule of freedom from the planets. You let us play our games and we keep our game in our own atmosphere. Even legitimate governments played the game over time. Hell Ursa worked for at least half of them. Hypocritical fucks. She shut her eyes and settled in, knowing that they would be arriving soon.

---------------------- Agrathea ---------------------------

Ursa hopped out of the Ranger, with a cigarette in her mouth and her hands in her pockets. Darian and Mac carried each two metal cases full of crystals. The port was full of various styles of ships and carriers. The city was lit up with floating neon signs, layers of housing and shops piled on top of each other, clawing for their small scrap of space. A maze of intricate cultures the city was alive and thriving. At the gritty bottom though was druggies shoving needles into every god damn weak point of their skin, prostitutes giving away the goods with only dumpsters available for privacy. Children were stealing anything they could get their grubby little paws on, and animals moved in packs in order to hunt for scraps. The place was a beehive of depravity and Ursa knew every god damn corner of it. She smiled, pulling away the cigarette to let a puff of air fade into the air. She heard a noise behind her and turned to see Juniper and Takashi at the top of the exit platform. She eyed Juniper for a few minutes and gave a small smile before she spoke to Mac, "She would make one hell of a smuggler with that skill she's got...you know."

He turned her back around, "Get out of the clouds Ursa. We have a job to do."

Ursa nodded, pulling out some sunglasses as she shoved the cigarette back into her mouth, "You're right. Yondi is waiting."

A cruiser pulled up a few minutes later and the three crew members hopped inside, Ursa taking one more look at Juniper before they headed straight into depravity.

---------Sometime Later-------------

The warehouse was filled with busted cars and metal boxes of stock that could be filled with either teddy bears or explosives. Ursa and her men walked into the darkly lit warehouse to find a group of tall copper coloured aliens in deep gray charcoal suits. Yondi stood at the front of them. Ursa entered with a soft boom, "Yondi, sugar. It's been some time. How's the wife?"

He responded with an arrogant smirk, "Shelia? Dead for all I care. Bitch was screwing the neighbor."

Ursa smiled, taking out her cigarette and crushing it on the floor, "Ouch. I would judge her but I haven't seen the neighbor yet?"

Yondi gave her the finger then motioned towards the cases, "Those what I think they are."

Ursa nodded, "Two hundred Aderthal crystals by noon on Agrathea. Just what you asked for. You got my payment?"

Yondi turned lifting a hand as a young man walked up opening the case to show a case full of kredits. Ursa felt a shiver of excitement role through her body as she eyed the kredits. She turned to Mac then to Darian and the boys walked forward opening the box to expose the glittering crystals. Ursa spoke evenly, "Always good business with you Yondi. So we do a straight trade and we both end up back where we.."

"Not so fast Ursa. Look you and I have been doing business for a long time now. I know how you operate and I know your weaknesses. Usually business is clean but right now I can't afford to lose these kredits. I have employers that are calling in on some debts and I can't afford to pay service charges so..."

Suddenly the men held up their guns, rays aimed directly at Mac and the boys. Darian swore in his native language, "Kunta Proga."

Mac remained quiet, apart from a raised eyebrow and a violent glare. Ursa shoved her hands on her hips, a shocked expression on her face, "Well...Fuck Yondi. I'm actually surprised you had the balls to do this..shit. I was not prepared for this today."

She walked forward slightly, "I mean I can handle the loss. I can pay the men for my personal account..but I went through three months of planning and fuel for this shit. I thought we were friends."

Yondi laughed, "Friends. Oh come on Ursa, you know you were always the bitch in our relationship."

Ursa nodded, "Well apparent fuckingly...okay. Give him the crystals. What? Do not give me that look, Mac. I ain't dying for some rocks. What do think I'm going to go...attack Yondi and his people by myself that's stupid."

Mac and Damian brought the cases forward setting them at Yondi's feet, before backing away slowly. Ursa raised her hands, "Look lower your fucking pistols. I know when I've been beaten. I can handle the loss anyway Yondi..It's not a big deal. Besides you're big business. Why ruin a relationship over a bad deal."

Yondi laughed, leaning down to pick up a crystal, "Oh I wasn't worried about that. You haven't lifted your pistols in the eight years I've known you. I mean that old shit for brains Jerry, maybe I would have been scared of but you? Hah. I figured you weren't an idiot. A good bitch knows who her employers are. Lower em boys."

Yondi stood up slowly, "See I knew you would be..."

Suddenly the crystals exploded in front of him shooting up into the air. Mac and Damian rolled to the sides pulling out two pistols to shoot at the crew behind Yondi. Ursa hit the deck as soon as the crystals exploded, rolling forward and then onto her feet as screams began to fill the air. She twisted to the side kicking up one of the metal cases to block the oncoming barrage of gun fire. She smirked, pulling out her guns as she kicked the case forward towards one of the men, knocking him to the ground. She jumped up shooting the man who was trying to get up and rolling him up and over her body as shots came her way. She grunted lifting the corpse to use him as a shield as she went running towards Yondi who was picking up crystal shards and shoving them into the other case. She threw the corpse to the left sliding down to turn on her back kicking backward up into Yondi's chin. He fell to the dirt in a crash, bullets grazing Ursa as she darted towards him rolling to the side just in time to miss them. She twisted, leaning up to aim a shot at his hand. The bullet hit with the precision she was known for, blowing the gun right out of her way. She hit the ground on her shoulder, crystals stabbing into her stomach and legs, moving back onto her knee's as Yondi screamed out in pain. She darted behind a storage box, a bullet grazing her arm as she slid behind it, "YOU KNOW YONDI...I COULD HAVE FORGIVEN YOU FOR FUCKING ME OVER. HELL, I SEE THE REASON BEHIND IT. I HAVE CONSIDERED DOING THE SAME THING TO YOU MULTIPLE TIMES.."

She moved to the sides letting a few shots go off, her aim excellent as one of Yondi's men poked his head up behind a box to aim at her, about to take the shot when she performed a perfect headshot. She spoke above the barrage of bullets, "I COULD EVEN FORGIVE YOU FOR MENTIONING JERRY IN A DEROGATORY MANNER."

She stood up randomly shooting two more of Jerry's men before Mac put another one down to the left that took the chance to aim at her. She waited for another to shoot but it was only the young man left and he was huddled in the corner, tears streaming down his cheeks as he gripped the case of money. Ursa walked out from behind the box, her shoes crunching the crystal and bullets beneath them as she walked over to Yondi who was gripping his bleeding hand, his eyes shooting daggers up at her. She lifted her gun, her yellow eyes baring down onto him with an angry expression, as she spoke evenly, "But I'm nobody's bitch."

She let out a final beautiful shot into his skull before she walked over to Damian and Mac who were standing in front of the young man. As she approached the young man lifted up the case and Ursa reached down taking it slowly, "Thank you. You just earned 200 Anderthal crystals for your troubles." She handed the case to Mac and then headed for the exit stretching lightly, "Pleasure doing business with you. Let's do it again some time."

Damian and Mac followed her outside, Mac speaking slowly, "We have to get out of here. Even if we are on Agrathea, Yondi had a lot of friends. They find out we killed him it could go bad. They need time to cool off."

Ursa nodded, "That fucking punk thought I was just going to sit back and take it from behind. I didn't think he would do it you know? For a split second, I thought he would actually back down once we were face to face. Bullshit. I could kill that mother fucker again, if I didn't have to waste the bullet. God damn waste of a relationship, that is."

She shoved her gun into it's holster harshly as they headed into the cruiser darting through the streets back towards the Ranger. When they arrived she hoped out noting Takashi was waiting for her by the entry door, "How did it go?"

She growled, "Yondi is no longer a valued customer of Cooper incorporated."

He smirked, "Told you the intel was good."

Ursa walked past him into the ship, as he followed behind her, blood running down her left hand from her cut shoulder, "That fucker. I hate. HATE using my damn guns. Makes the job so damn messy. Now I'm gonna have families cursing my name and whoever Yondi was in touch with is going to be on my ass. PLUS...HE THINKS I WAS HIS BITCH. FOR EIGHT YEARS...HE THOUGHT I WAS WORKING FOR HIM...THAT MOTHER...What the hell is she doing on my ship?"

She eyed Juniper with a confused expression as Takashi spoke up, "Well about that..."

Suddenly a blast came from outside of the ship. Ursa swore moving to the window to see a few cruisers heading towards the port. She turned to Anna, yelling out angrily, "GET US OFF THE GROUND NOW!"

Another blast went off as the ship slowly lifted off the ground the engines running at full burn. Takashi turned to his station helping with taking off as Ursa walked over to the Tabletop setting in coordinates for their next port, where they would be off to handle their next contract. Mr. Flirt or rather Emmett Draykon. When the coordinates were imputed into the system, she turned to look back at Juniper with slightly angry yellow eyes, "Now...let me ask again. What are you still doing on my ship?"

Juniper was woken by banging on the cabin door and she put her dress back on, unsure what to do with the night gown she had wore for pajamas. She decided to just leave it folded on the bed, which she made, and she opened the door to see a tall person standing there, his expression serious. He had dark skin, with silver dreads that complimented the tone.

"We arrive in an hour. I'll take you to the kitchen to eat, give you some money, and then you'll be getting off and can head out on your own," he said, his voice matter of fact.

Juniper stared at him, feeling unsure and she was sure her eyes gave away her fear. But instead of saying anything, she simply nodded and followed Mac to the kitchen. She wondered if there was any more food already made, but figured she should probably make something for herself instead. After a bit of cooking and searching for items to use and eat from, she sat down at the island in the middle of the room in the same spot she had the day before. She liked that spot, and smiled slightly, calling it hers.

She kicked her feet slightly in her seat, and hummed quietly to herself, daydreaming once she finished her food. She breathed in slow through her nose, and closed her eyes a little. Finally she got up and washed her dishes, and put them away, then sat back down. She couldn't find a clock, and figured someone would return to get her when it was time for her to leave. What felt like only moments later, she could hear Mac's voice telling her to wake up.

"Come on! It's time to go... Wake up."

Juniper's head snapped up off the table and looked to Mac again, and she then rubbed her eyes shyly. "Sorry..." she said, sighing.

Mac began to lead her to the exit platform, and she began to panic. She didn't know this planet, let alone know anyone on it. She would be homeless with no where to go, no way to make money for food or shelter, and almost instantly after her thoughts began, she started to cry. She wanted to beg to let her stay, but the chances were probably slim to none. Juniper could feel Mac's eyes on her then, and she almost didn't dare to look up at him. Instead she heard him speak up again.

"Don't worry kid... You'll be okay."

Juniper nodded, sniffling as she wiped at her eyes with the back of her wrist. She wasn't convinced though. She had never been on her own before. Finally Mac handed her a bag with some Kredits in it, and nodded as he left her with Takashi, who she had met previously. Juniper watched as Ursa and Mac left the platform and headed into the city, and she saw Ursa smile at her slightly before turning her back to them.

Juniper finally took a deep breath in and turned to face Takashi, who was reaching out to push her gently on the back, as though to guide her off the ship. Juniper dug her heels into the metal and stood where she was, her eyes on his.

"Please don't make me go..." she started, quickly coming up with a story to hopefully get him to let her stay.

"You can't stay Juniper. Ursa said you have to get off here," he said, his voice kind, but firm.

"Please. I don't have a family anymore. My planet is destroyed... I don't have anything except this flower dress and this bag of Kredits Mac gave me. I'll probably die out there on my own. Please just let me stay!" Juniper's voice turned whiny and pleading, her eyes stinging with the onset of tears the further down the platform she was forced. Finally she broke into sobs, and reached forward, grabbing onto Takashi's arm.

"Ursa will be pissed... I can't let you stay. I know you've had some misfortune, but everyone has. You'll be okay I promise." Takashi really did try to sound convincing, but Juniper knew that he figured she was probably right.

"Then please at least let me say a proper goodbye to Ursa... She was the first person I saw after my parents died in front of me..." Juniper tried another approach, hoping this one would work in combination of the crying. Her fears and sadness were genuine, and she was reacting with honesty.

Takashi looked at her silently for a few moments, mulling it over in his mind before giving her an answer. Juniper knew right away at his hesitation that she had won, though.

"Alright, but only until Ursa returns... Please don't cry."

Juniper wiped her face and nose again and slowly stopped crying, becoming quiet after a few moments. Takashi then lead her to a sort of area with seats and they both sat down. Juniper didn't feel awkward at all in her silence, though she couldn't say the same for Takashi. He had a neutral expression on his face and she sighed softly, then stood up.

"Wanna see a trick?" She waited for Takashi to answer her, and she suddenly began to change shape. Her body shrank down many sizes, and her bones and features morphed and changed into the shape of a the same weird looking cat creature she had before, and Takashi's eyes widened with almost horror. This cat might be cute to Juniper's people, but maybe not to Takashi. Juniper smiled and then transformed back into her normal self, but only for a moment.

"Wanna see another?" she grinned this time, her soft voice excited. Takashi raised his eyebrow and looked at her expectantly. Suddenly, Juniper began to take the shape of Takashi. The details were exactly the same, and she stared at him in silence for a moment, enjoying his expressions which ranged from surprised, to angry, to suddenly laughing. Juniper began to laugh too then, and her eyes shone from within, feeling happy even for a moment.

"Well done. That's talent right there."

"Thanks," Juniper said in response, changing back into her normal form once more. She sat back down and closed her eyes, simply just trying to relax while she waited for Ursa.

------- A couple hours later -------

Takashi had gotten up to go greet Ursa, Juniper assumed. It had been a while, so she figured she was probably on her way back. Juniper ran after him, and Ursa began spouting off angrily about what had just happened. She sounded pissed.

"That fucker.

Takashi began to explain when suddenly a blast sounded outside the ship. Ursa yelled to get them off the ground, and the ship took off roughly, causing Juniper to stumble slightly. Ursa moved to set new coordinates, then turned to look at Juniper with angry eyes.

"Now...let me ask again. What are you still doing on my ship?"

Juniper stepped closer to her, folding her fingers together to keep from fidgeting. "Please... I don't know anyone here... I could be useful to you... I'm a good learner, and can work hard if you need me to."

"I'm not really recruiting right now... I'd need some time to think it over," Ursa said, turning her eyes back to the coordinates.

Juniper wondered where they would be going, and spoke up again, "Please, you don't even have to pay me. I promise you wouldn't regret it."

Ursa gave Juniper a deadpan expression, her thoughts still on her fight with Yondi. She took in a breath pinching the bridge of her nose, "Look, kid. I get it. Your whole world was destroyed. You have no one else but we aren't bloody babysitters. You don't even know who we are or what we do. I don't know you and to be brutally honest I don't trust you."

She turned to Takashi with an annoyed expression, and spoke up loudly, "Are they in pursuit?"

Takashi shook his head, his expression slightly ashamed, "We aren't seeing anything so far, but if they are just exiting the planet now it won't take them long to find us."

Ursa swore, looking through the table top, "A few clicks off to the left of us there is a black hole, get close enough that the blackness cloaks us but not close enough to send us into another dimension."

She turned to see Juniper looking at her, "No. It's not going to happen. We will give you a ride to the next planet and then you are off. Last I am going to say about it. Mac. I'm going to medical for some stitches, call me to the brig if we see anyone following us."

She headed towards the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of Caribbean Rum and headed to the small medical room. The ship had no doctor, but a few machines that were suited to perform some extensive surgical tasks. She walked over to a small white machine with two 'pincher' like arms that was used for doing a proficient stitching job. She booted up the machine and pulled the cork of the rum. They had no painkillers other than alcohol on the ship so she got to guzzling. She pulled off her jacket and tossed it over on a side table blood dripping down her arm like a red river. The deep red line on the outside of her arm exposed a pinky dark red wound. She hated the sight of it, moving to wash her arm in the sink before she headed back over to the machine and let it go to work. She grits her teeth taking another chug of wine as she fought through the pain. She was mad. No, in fact, she was pissed. It wasn't that the fight happened, it was that she let it happen. Ursa could usually defuse any issue or eliminate it before guns were necessary. She hated violence, it was a waste of time and money and almost always led to bad blood between people. When the machine was done she got up and turned it off, bandaging up the work before she headed towards her room to grab a book and a new shirt. After a while, she made her way back to the cockpit and noticed Mac and Juniper by the tabletop. Noting her presence Mac turned, "Feeling better?"

Ursa grunted as a response. Mac laughed before motioning her over, "Juniper showed us a quicker way to get to the planet. We should get there a few hours earlier than if we went our original route if we go her way."

Ursa looked it over with a bored expression. Well, what do you know? The kid did know something, "Sure. Sooner we get there the better." She eyed Juniper and gave her a smirk, "Thanks."

Ursa then turned moving to her spot without giving the crew a second glance and dove into her book, wanting to be alone for awhile.

--------------------Planet Ephus----------------------

Ursa climbed out of the drain pipe and came up to the cobbled surface moving slowly out of the way for Juniper and Dill to follow her up before closing it. Ursa turned to look out into the street, her expression reserved, "Follow me at 10-minute intervals and try not to bring attention to yourselves, got it. When we arrive at the location Dill head into the shoe store and buy a pair of Croc's, whilst Juniper you get in line for the bus. If you see any cops come into the store and let me know. Dill wire to the crew to get ready when we exit." She turned to Juniper, "Don't make me regret allowing you to come. After this, we are dropping you off at our next stop."

She shoved on her Treo's Pizza hat then walked out moving through the crowd slowly, making her way through the streets while strategically remaining quiet as she passed a few soldiers. She kept up her pace until she headed towards an antique bookstore. She nodded to the owner, moving to the back corner where she began to look through a couple of the stacks her yellow eyes reading through the titles before she spoke softly, breaking the silence of the store "Delays seem to happen quite often in my line of work. It's a good thing we aren't running on a clock."

She pulled one down, feeling a presence behind her.

Her voice paused, going deadpan, "Which one would you suggest, Draykon?"

After he arrived home, Emmett saw a letter in his box. He knew he finally had his next contract. Emmett opened the letter to find that his next contact didn't have much information. Normally they give a name, location or possible locations, likes/dislikes characteristics ect. On this contract there's just a name and possible location. Vashook, located in the galaxy Centauri Cloud 3. Vashook looked to being his mid twenties, but that could change as could his silver hair and brown fur. Emmett did the best he could to locate such a place but to no avail. The only information he could learn is that it's rich with potential fuel reserves, and at that moment he knew exactly who to contact to help find the place.

Emmett went to the antique book store that he knew Ursa always went to when it was time for them to meet and make a deal. As always she was late, Emmett helped himself to the Sci-Fi area as the non-fiction is always his favorite kind of genre of books to read. It was old as you would expect, and smelled of an old dusty shoe. As Emmett wandered reading the book, he could hear shuffling coming from the outside as people wandered past in the alleyway. He could hear the soft muffles from the passerby but not enough to know what they were saying. Emmett always knows when Ursa shows up as she never shows up alone. "Right on time," he thought as he could hear more movement outside, and not the same shuffling he's been hearing for the past hour but more like movement that's been set up. He waited for the weird Pizza hat to be insight before he moved in to talk to Ursa about his idea.

"Delays seem to happen quite often in my line of work. It's a good thing we aren't running on a clock."

She pulled one down, feeling a presence behind her.

Her voice paused, going deadpan, "Which one would you suggest, Draykon?"

"I quite like the non-fiction my self however, there are different kinds of books that I love even more. In fact there was this planet I was on once that had these books that were called "comics" and they were quite interesting." Emmett said as he closed the book he was reading while waiting for Ursa to meet with him. "Also you know you can call me by my first name, right Ursa?" he said with a smile.

~Vash~

Damned drunkard possessed quiet the bar-tab and an attitude to easily outmatch. Sprawled out within a corner booth of the establishment, seating granted view of any who'd approach himself. Albeit, state of intoxication could be taking it's toll on awareness. Even for being 6'6, and est. 200-210LBS, the ornery fella was still guzzling drinks far more than any creature should. Without a doubt, recent and ongoing actions, has caused several to be tasked with handling the alien who calls himself VASHOOK!

Considering the establishment Vash occupied was on the 'less reputable' side. Some of the assistance hired to dispose of him was far from 'legal-enforcement'. On-call security already attempted, and failed, to escort Vash out due to disruptive/foul behavior. So far, Vash stubbornly inhabits the establishment seeking to have his fill of alcohol while rudely explaining 'he'll only pay his dues after'.

Narrowing onto the subject of focus. Likely a bounty hunter or mercenary, instructed to remove Vash, signals their arrival by blasting a pitcher out of the goat's grasp. Glass and beverage fly everywhere as the projectile destroys Vash's drink. Angrily, Vash shakes himself to 'dry off' due to becoming drenched. Staring down the crosshairs of their weapon the mercenary shouts.

AYE FUCKWIT! YOU'VE GOT THIRTY SECONDS TO GO! BEFORE I MAKE YOUR LIFE HELL!"

Of course Vash didn't listen, merely ignoring the newcomer and resuming his drinking binge. Though, each beverage grabbed is effortlessly shot and destroyed. Like a broken record, Vash repeats the process: Angrily shakes self dry with a calculated 'dog like' maneuver, grabs another drink only to be doused again by the aftermath of an aimed shot. Mercenary even laughing at the determination, stubbornness, or stupidity of Vash. Right before the Merc shouts another string of commands, or threats. Vash finally lifts himself to a stand to face his agressor. Sernly, irritation coursing through his words.

HhhhhhaaaaaaaaaarrrrRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrruuuummmmmmphhh! THAAAAT'S ENOUGH!! Do you have anywhere else to be? 'Cause i'd find great joy knowing what direction to kick your ass in!!!”

Cocking their firearm the mercenary scoffs. Informing Vash of the current 'situation' and how he's on the 'wrong end of the problem to be giving orders, threats, or demands.' Not to mention, the mercenary comments on Vash's level of intoxication. A level which seemed utterly high as Vash stumbled and 'struggled' to kept balance. The mercenaries gun was even visibly moving with Vash's own movements, obviously keeping gun sights 'locked on'. Almost comically Vash hiccups a few times before and during speaking.

Don't fire that --hiccup-- gun again, Last w—hiccup—warning!

If not for the drunken swaying of Vash, the gunshot fired in protest would have grazed him. Roaring, well one could only imagine a 'roar' from a goat-like humanoid. Spiraling into a flurry of movements after warning is not heeded. Vash utilizes the 'drunken sway and momentum' easily performing a cartwheel and removing himself from direct aim of the gun. Turning hoofs into metal, Vash grinds into the wood flooring and launches himself with a charge and headbutts into the foe. Actions resulted with the mercenary rolling back, impact breaking several tables and being knocked out.

Exerting another 'harrumph' the goat-man mutters something about 'If more people listened this would happen less.' Only to return to his booth, grabbing more drinks from empty tables while doing so. Without skipping a beat, Vash keeps drinking and waiting. Wondering if he'll reach his fill before the next bounty hunter, or foe, arrives and attacks. Yet such 'worries' never showed as the ornery goat continued to wallow in alcohol.

Ursa turned her yellow eyes towards the young man, her expression remaining slightly deadpan as she eyed Draykon, “I like to keep it professional… Draykon. You know that. Plus I don’t want to encourage the belief that you and I are. Well, how do I put it eloquently, ‘chums’.

Despite her words, she gave him a friendly smile, “Surprising that we are thrown into another mission again so soon. Especially by the same employer. It’s happened..but not often enough.

You’re right it doesn’t happen often. Do you know where we are headed or do you need the information” He replied in a joking manner, watching Ursa’s expression? “The only thing that really concerns me is the fact that with this contact there was so much uncertainty what do you think?

As they were talking Emmett was also keeping an eye on their surroundings so nothing changes, as he knows they are not the best of people according to the public that is.

Ursa walked over towards the bookstore owner remaining calm, “Of course I know where we are headed. Don’t worry about transportation. I will get you to the planet. You deal with the target and remember same as before, I don’t want to see it, I don’t want to know where it is going down, and I don’t want the blood on my hands.

She grabbed out another book then turned to look at Emmett, "You stick to what you do and I stick to what I do. Also uncertainty? Who cares. If taking you to kill the poor bugger, means I get 300,000 kredits than that is what I am going to do.

She laughed bringing the books up to the table and handed the man two 200 kredits, way over the selling price of the books, before speaking again, “Besides if someone is willing to pay that much to kill this guy... then he probably deserves it in my opinion.

Honestly, I don’t really care if they deserve it or not it’s all in the money,” He said with a chuckle as he was following Ursa out the store, “How long will it take for you and your crew to be ready? Need a few hours?" Emmett said as he knew that he was always ready, but for someone with a large transport ship and a crew to move it might take a while. Emmett studied the outside and surrounding shops and noticed that he was correct with his much earlier statement, that Ursa was not alone. He noticed Dill, whom he had met before buying the most impractical and downright ugliest of shoes at the shoe store but he did not notice anyone else from her crew. 'Normally she would have about two or three people with her but one?' he thought to himself as they were in the alleyway.

Ursa walked down onto the street, stretching to signify to Dill to follow her in 10. She then turned looking to the left her eye’s connecting with Juniper. She nodded lightly before turning to Emmett, “Walk towards the third in line at the bus stop and then follow her back towards my ship in about twenty minutes. I will explain details there. Also, you hit on her or make her feel in any way uncomfortable. You are sleeping below docks in the sanitation room.

She popped on some sunglasses then headed down the street making her way back she came with Dill following behind after about fifteen minutes later.

Emmett walked over to the girl that was third in line as he was instructed. “Are you here to take me back?” he asked the girl that was standing there, trying not to draw anyone's attention. He looked at her dressed in all white with flower petals, with short brown hair with amber eyes. He thought to himself, 'I’ve never seen eyes like that before so rich with color, but also rich with sadness.' He studied her as he waited for her answer.

Juniper turned toward the voice that spoke slowly, her eyes landing on a tall male. Her brows furrowed slightly, confused at his remark. She had never seen this person before in her life, and she was sure he wasn’t one of Ursa’s crew members.

Uhm… I don’t think so? I don’t know you?” She asked him curiously, though starting to doubt herself. “Do I?

Oh I’m sorry, where are my manners. The name is Emmett Draykon, you can call me Emmett.” he said with a slight bow and tilt of his head. “Ursa sent me over to ask you for the way to the ship, as she is preoccupied with other business. I can also see why she threatened me about you as well.” he said with a soft smile.

Juniper’s eyebrow raised then, and she shook her head a little. “You just need to follow me back to the ship then, I suppose.” She said this as a fact, though her voice was still kind. She saw Ursa nod her head a few minutes before, and so Juniper began to walk back toward the ship, keeping a close eye for police of any kind. She wanted to roll her eye at Emmett’s last comment, but ignored it instead.

My name is Juniper.

A short while later, they made it back to the ship, and she headed up onto the platform quietly.

As they made it back to the ship unnoticed, Emmett walked onto the ship acknowledging all the crew members that he knew nodding his head or waving at them. As they walk through the ship waiting for Ursa to show up, Emmett curiously watched the young girl that walked in front of him. It wasn’t like Ursa to bring on new crew members so young or even at all. “So how long have you worked for Ursa, Juniper?” He spoke to her softly trying to be friendly.

Oh… I don’t work for her. She’s planning to drop me off at the next stop…” Juniper said, her voice just barely a whisper, her eyes to the floor.

Drop you off? Why would she do that to you?” he said as he saw her eyes drop to the floor. “So she plans on leaving you with me on the next drop? I don’t really think that’s a good idea as on the next drop, I have a job to do and it’s not really a job I would take you to.

Ursa headed into the platform with Dill behind her carrying two large sacks of food. She tossed them to the edge before speaking up in response to Emmett, “Well then what do you suppose I do Emmett? Let her join our crew and become a criminal just off the bat. In the words of ol Jerry, ‘I ain’t fishing for snapper when I already have cod in the kitchen.’ Besides Zaron is a big planet with a ton of ports she can easily catch a ride on a rig there.

She turned to Dill and pointed towards the kitchen in response to the sacks of food before speaking up, "Also, quit giving me that look about the Crocs. It was funny as hell and you know it!"

Do you honestly think it’s the best idea to leave her there? Would you rather her get killed or worse? You of all people know the kind of people that live on that planet let alone in that galaxy.” He said in an almost condescending tone. “I wouldn’t want a pretty young thing such as her to have to fend for herself on that planet and I don’t think you want that on your conscience, or what you have left anyways!

Ursa crossed her arms and leaned against the metal wall eyeing Draykon with her own condescending stare, “You really underestimate my kindness Draykon. Also slightly hypocritical coming from you, I would say. However, I see your point.” She turned to Juniper, “You still have the kredits. This is your stop. Door’s just there.

She turned to Draykon with a cold stare, “There. Conscience cleaned.

Okay well if you leave her here how much money does she have? I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be enough to last her till she can find whatever kind of job that doesn’t involve our line of work. I mean she can come with us but she doesn’t have to do the actual crimes we commit.” Emmett said with a disapproving look. “I understand you’re just looking out for her hoping she doesn’t follow our line of work but honestly what else is she going to do? Next you’re going to say she should be a cop or something stupid like that.” He said with a soft chuckle.

Ursa remained calm, although her tone turned sharp, “I’m sorry I think you are mistaking me for a charity worker. I saved her from a destructive planet, I gave her 500 kredits, and I transported her to a planet where she has WAAAAY more of a chance of survival than where she started. So let me state this plainly. I don’t give a shit, what she does, and if you feel so charitable how about you foot the bill for her new life because I ain’t doing it.

If I’m such a burden, I’ll get off here.” Juniper’s voice which was normally very kind and soft turned annoyed and almost offended. “And don’t speak about me as if I’m not here!” She shouted at the end, her eyes stinging with another round of tears as he headed toward the door which held the platform, the petals of her dress swaying slightly as she moved.

As Juniper was leaving Emmett grabbed her hand “You are welcome to stay at my house if you choose to leave. If you choose to stay you can come along with me. I have no problems teaching you and keeping you out of trouble but it’s a choice you need to make!” after he was done speaking he let her go. He looked to Ursa “I understand how you feel about everything and not wanting to add more people and what not.,” pausing for a second, “How about she stays with me? That way you don’t have to spend extra money or time on her and I will watch out for her and take responsibility for her.

Ursa’s frown turned into a cocky smirk, “Done. You want to train her in your line of business that is up to the both of you. I will fulfill the transport for as long as necessary to complete the job then when you leave my ship, you take her with you. Problem solved.

She grabbed her bags of food then headed towards the kitchen, feeling exhausted with the whole discussion. She turned to Emmett one more time before disappearing, "Close the door when you figure out what you two want to do. We leave in ten, and Emmett you are in the guest room, like before.

She headed down the hall heading towards the kitchen than to the cockpit where she fist bumped Mac and nodded to Takashi before walking over to the tabletop to set coordinates for Zaron. Mac looked at her with sharp eyes, “You really are going to leave her with him? She’s just a kid.

Ursa gave him a serious stare, “It isn’t my or your business what she does. Now that is enough about it. Prepare for takeoff and set the jets to burn.

Juniper simply stared up at Emmett. She didn’t really want to go with him, but it seemed at this moment there was not much choice in the matter since Ursa didn’t want her. Ah, who was she kidding anyway? She was useless as far as they were concerned.

I’ll just go with him.” She said to Ursa, her eyes dull, her voice sad. She sat down and brought her knees to her chest, then waited for them to take off.

Ursa waited until Emmett and Juniper were in the cockpit and nodded at Juniper's decision. She felt a little guilty, looking at the girl but... she would not be the one to turn the girl into a criminal. This might make her out to be an asshole, but at least she was a consistent one. She turned to Takashi and nodded, "All right. Let's get this mother out of the port and into the skies." She then turned to Anna, "Anna, Track three, and crank it."

Suddenly the music filled the cockpit, as thoughts of money and Zaron filled Ursa's head.

Standing amidships within his trusty corvette Bessy Girl Jean Wylder watched the scene played out before him in quiet contemplation. Normally he’d pace the observation deck while in deep thought but at this moment his hand was strapped to a small hovering medical droid. The bot whizzed and whirled, laying open Jean’s hand and repairing the severe damage done. Moving bones, nerves, and veins around in an attempt to restore the appendage to its proper functions. The droid had injected a nervous agent to freeze Jean’s entire arm, reminding him a little too much of the immobilization drug from back at the saloon. The droid worked on and Jean stared intently out the porthole not wanting to look at the mess of bones, and opened flesh his hand currently was.

The Bessy Girl currently sat in stasis in the shadow of a massive gaseous planet Theonia Z14 a few hundred light years from Theonia Z17. The ship’s placement made it effectively invisible to the naked eye, and Jean knew from experience that the massive waves of energy wafting off of Z14 would scramble long range scanners, camouflaging him to any unwanted observers. Jean felt this precaution necessary as through his own observation screens he could see nearly thirty light attack frigates orbiting Theonia Z14. Each one alone having enough weaponry to rip Bessy Girl to shreds.

“So there’s who you’re workin’ for Bart ya asshole.” Jean muttered to himself, watching as a small fleet of landing ships returned to the frigates, seemingly offloading a cargo of some kind taken from the planet’s surface. “Just what are y’all up too?”

Sheriff, communication with the Bessy Girl[i] is being attempted from Tajax Prime. Station thirteen. Access code seven, seven, bravo, six, two.[i]” A computer generated feminine voice startled Jean from his thoughts. Shall I patch them through?

Jean extended his head ever so slightly. “Go ahead, pull up the display in the observation deck.”

”Aye Sheriff.

For a moment the screen in front of Jean wavered and crackled before a shotty image of another human came into focus. She wore a similar outfit and badge as Jean, with her booted feet propped up on her desk. Seeing who it was Jean touched the tip of his hat in greeting, which the newcomer copied.

“Well howdy there Director Jane Krytok, fancy you patching in ma’am. I didn’t reckon I’d see you for another couple months at least. I must’ve done something right. Or.” He added as an afterthought. “Really wrong…”

“What in the Hell happened with Bart!” Jane blurted out, getting straight to the point. “I just received word from the Cajjy space that they have him in custody! You were supposed to drag his hide back here, not allow the corrupt Cajjinx cops to snag him. He’ll be sitting in a comfy cell for two years before being released on parole, rather than being hung from the noose like he deserves! Now when ‘e gets released we’ll have to send another Marshal into dangerous space to hunt him down. We’ve lost enough good marshals, and rangers pursuing this one man an’ you had to go an’ botch it again. This isn’t good for your record Sheriff, and what th’ Hell happened to you! You look like ya just got stampeded by a herd of Spugheffers! There better be a god damn good reason for all this Sheriff. This don’t look good.”

“Something wrong then.” Jean muttered when Jane paused to take a breath. “Listen, we’ve got a bigger problem. I had Bart but-“

“YOU FUCKING HAD HIM!” Jane screamed. “WHAT THE ACTUAL-“

“Listen Director! I let the Cajjy police take him because he was connected to the situation at Theonia Z17, an’ it don’t seem to dandy. He was smuggling a cache of untraceable kredits to the invasion fleet here. I’m staked out an’ watching them now, it’s a handful of unmarked frigates, a few landing craft an’ snub fighters. They look kinda raggedy, like they were bought independently.”

“Like someone’s building themselves a personal fleet.” Jane cut in, looking a little less angry and a little more interested. “What’s the situation on the surface?”

“I ain’t sure, I can’t get much closer, my camouflaging capabilities ain’t good enough- hang on.” As Jean watched a small smuggling freighter zipped by the invasion fleet off the planet plotting a course past Jean’s hiding spot. The two lawkeepers watched in interest as the freighter zoomed past less than ten lightyears away providing a clear picture for the long range scanners. “The Ranger, looks like another smuggler for the invasion fleet, maybe.”

“They were cloaked, th’ invaders might’ve not even noticed them. They could just be sneaking past.” Jane cautioned. “Was mere luck we saw ‘em.”

“Yeah, or not. It’s a good lead either way an’ Bessy Girl is better suited to dealin’ with freighters than frigates.”

“Right, well follow them then and see if you can detain and question. I’ll get some more marshals on the Theonia situation in the meantime, this is looking to be an intergalactic incident. An’ don’t think I ain’t still mad at ya about Bart. I’m still as pissed as a wet mountain lion.”

“Aye Director I don’t doubt it. Catch ya ‘round.” The display screen switched off and Jean checked his hand, glad to see the bot was nearly finished. Tilting his head up the Sheriff called in a loud, clear voice. “Ship, begin plotting a course after that freighter’s hyperspace trail. Don’t lose the signal. And prepare the engines for a jump, we’re going after the Ranger.”

Zaron------

Ursa stepped out of the Ranger after they arrived at Zaron. The trip was smooth, regardless of the tense atmosphere between Emmett, Juniper and herself. The ranger landed in a small port called, ‘Angie’s Dinner Plate, was located in an isolated bay about three miles from the city. It was a hub for many smugglers and pirates, and hosted a small town filled with drinking, bisexual hookers, and Ursa’s favorite bathhouse, in the galaxy.

After taking a look around she walked over to a tall man with wood-like skin that erupted up into rough antlers and gave him a fist pound, “Valen. Thanks for letting us use your port hideout. The legal routes are getting too difficult to enter…

Valen laughed pulling a piece of paper from his back pocket, “You are telling me. Look what I found?

Ursa took the piece of paper looking at a picture of herself at the age of seventeen. She had short cropped hair and was giving a camera the finger. She looked at the highlighted neon name and bounty, “A wanted poster… Great… How many are there?

He looked her up and down, “Enough for people to inquire whether it was worth the risk to turn you in.

She grit her teeth, wanting for the millionth time to just be left the fuck alone so she could get along with her work, “Hmm… " She crumpled the paper and pulled out a cigarette lighting it, “Well I guess I better make sure they lean towards the later. Can you host the ship for a day or two? I have the money and my crew won’t cause...too much trouble.

Valen crossed his arms, “Yeah we can host for a few day, but I ain't performing any security duties. How are you getting into the city?

She turned to see Emmett and Juniper exit the ship with Mac and Takashi, “Noneya.

Valen expression crinkled, “Nonya?

She turned giving him a smile before she headed over to the others, “Noneya business.

She stopped short in front of the four of them and gave a thumbs up, before pulling the cigarette out of her mouth to crush it beneath her foot, “We are all good to harbor here for a few days. Takashi, Mac. You two stay with the ship and make sure no one touches the Ranger. You sense danger. Go. You hear me.

She then turned to Juniper and Emmett, “As for you two. The city where you will find the target is a few miles off from here. I will get you into the city then we part ways. When the job is done. We will meet at a certain spot that I will show you when we hit the city. Then we are getting the hell out of here. At the most, you have a day or two...good?

Once Emmett had agreed she walked over to Mac and gave him a fist pound before leaning up to whisper in his ear, “If I am not back by the night, get the fuck out of here and find Jerry. Don’t let anyone take my ship. Also... take care of the crew.

Mac leaned down, pulling Ursa in for a slight hug, “Of course. Captain.

Ursa hated when he hugged her, but a warmth went over her when he called her captain. She nodded to Takashi before turning to the other two, “Alright. Let’s go!

She walked ahead keeping her head low as she headed towards the center of the small little port town, before heading into the woods. She pulled back so she was walking beside Juniper slightly in front of Emmett and spoke softly, “I’ve had a bit of a thought about our last conversation, and I wanted to apologize for my abrupt candor. I know you probably think I am being unfair to you, but I am not in the type of business where I can keep strays in good conscience. Besides you don’t want to end up like Draykon or myself. You can do better…

She kept her eyes forward but she spoke evenly in response to Emmett, “Shut your trap, before you say a damn thing. No I don’t expect her to be a cop, but she can do a lot better then what either of us do. Especially with her skill. Ahh..Here we are.

Ursa jumped over a log and felt around, through some bushes before finding an odd potato shaped rock with a runic symbol on the back. She picked it up, moving towards a tree and shoved it awkwardly into a knot, turning it twice before a small door creaked open. Ursa dropped the rock and then looked over at Emmett, “You first. Catch Juniper when she hits the bottom. It’s a bit of a drop.

She waited until the other two headed in then prepared to follow when she heard a noise. Her gun was in her hand and a bullet was in a tree where the noise had been within seconds her yellow eyes glazed the woods. She pressed her lips together, waiting for another sound but nothing happened. She let out a breath, shaking her head before she put her gun back in it’s holster and walked towards the tree shutting the door behind her as she slid down a small tube before falling in mid air, her sneakers hitting the ground with a dull thud. She looked up at Emmett and Juniper, “Sorry...thought I heard something.

She walked into the dark, feeling around before her shins hit a large metal bin. She reached inside pulling out a small lantern, and some clothes. She threw them at Emmett, “ Disguise, if you need it. I assume the Honour guard is going to be on parol. Up to you.

She picked up a dark brown bomber jacket and a turned her Treo cap around her head, tucking in her hair so she looked more boyish. She then grabbed some dirt from the wall and rubbed it on her hands and face. If you weren’t looking close enough she could pass for a boy. She picked up the flashlight a few seconds later and aimed it at a track where three old abandoned mining carts filled partly with rocks and dust lay empty on a track that led into blackness. Ursa jumped into the first one, “Hop in guys. This mine shaft will take us to a mine just a few miles off from the main city. She motioned Juniper to hop into her cart and then Emmett took the second one, attaching it to the first. As soon as they got comfy Ursa pulled out her gun and aimed it into the dark, trying to shoot at a lever that was holding the breaks. She closed one eye and bit her tongue before she let off a shot, “Shit...I guess I missed...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Suddenly the cart shot off, and they headed into the dark going up and over long perilous hills, turning strange steep corners, not knowing how perilous the journey was. Ursa grabbed Juniper’s hand as she held on tight, moving at a fast speed as they moved towards their target. Suddenly a small light filled the front of the cave and the cart speeded towards it stopping with a violent thud as the group were thrown from their carts. Ursa rolled lightly letting out a cough, “Well that was….exhilarating. SHIT! I forgot it was like that...

She sat up looking at the other two to make sure they were okay before she walked towards the light that was emitting from behind a few boards that were crossing off an entrance to the mine. She pulled a few easily off then motioned for the other two to go ahead of her before she followed them inside coming out into the entry of a cave. She let out a breath already exhausted with the day when she pointed towards the woods, “This way.

She headed out walking threw the woods as if she knew them intimately. Finally they hit the cities tree line. She turned to Juniper and Emmett with a smirk, “Alright. We made it. So here is the deal. This is the meeting spot. Message me like we did before Draykon, and I will meet you here at this spot. I have some errands to run in the city, but I won’t travel farther than fifteen minutes away from this area. Good luck. Although you won’t need it.

She stood up and shoved her hands in the oversized jacket before turning to look at Juniper, “I would invite you with, but might as well bond with your new best friend sooner rather than later. Be safe!

She headed out of the woods slowly moving past a few houses into a suburban area before entering the city, the bath house her final destination as the smell of steam and Takaida shoots and Rose water filled her senses. She walked in, knowing the owner well enough to get a private room all to herself.

~Vash~

Something far worse than bounty hunters, or law enforcement, crossed the path of Vash. Effortlessly draining another pitcher of liquor, a new problem arrived. Employers of the establishment, which Vash occupied, refused to associate with him. Leaving him to his lonesome and own troubles until someone hired showed to remove Vash.

Glass shattering broke the Goats silence. Concluding this place was no longer of interest, Vash drags himself to a stand. Onlookers would wonder how balance is upheld on this ‘drunken state’ as he swayed and hardly kept himself upright. The one woman who saw this, trying to tell Vash to stop and await justice, was easily ignored and idly threatened.

Soon enough, the goat spit into the cement floor outside a casino. Chuckling with a ‘baaa’ at the end of his vocal-remark as he began walking into the building. Due to bouncers, or security, not knowing of Vash’s recent actions they foolishly allowed the Goat inside.Taking a seat at the bar, the server provides Vash with the drink asked for. Yet couldnt refrain from concern after hearing these words exit the goats mouth...

Biggest pitcher of the strongest liquor on the shelf. Preferably whisky or rum. Actually, a mixture of the two.

Then after a little convincing, the Goatman got his wish and returned to drinking. Though this time, the sips (yes sips) were slow paced and calculated. Vash didn’t exactly want to blow his cover, desiring to hide from his last problem which he created on the other side of town. Yet looking around at his own onlookers, the patrons and employees, Vash was realizing his presence wasn't exactly enjoyed even without knowing of his rambunctious or criminal nature.

The Bessy Girl exited hyperspace seconds after the Ranger flying down towards Zaron a few thousand kilometers behind the larger freighter. Jean kept his distance not wanting to startle his quarry. It’d been an easy trip, the Ranger while not advertising its presence didn’t seem interested in hiding from possible pursuers making Jean’s job all the easier. And while the planet Zaron was an odd choice for the freighter to stop, Jean doggedly stuck to his task, sipping whiskey at the control panel of his corvette while breaking the planet’s atmosphere.

The Ranger took a sharp dive just before it reached the city coming to rest at a small out-of-the-way spaceport. Jean passed overhead jerking on the controls to perform a slight roll hovering upside down just long enough to confirm his suspects had exited their spacecraft. Righting the Bessy Girl Jean made a straight course for the nearby city. His ship was clearly marked as a law vessel, and a small joint like that would probably have the honor amidst thieves to warn the Ranger’s crew in time. He’d have to arrive inconspicuously on hoof.

The air traffic grew absurdly thick over the city and it took the better part of twenty minutes for Jean to find an open lot, land, secure his corvette and saddle up Leeroy. After shoving enough kredit tabs into the meter drone to keep Bessy Girl from being impounded for a full day Jean rode hard for the smaller spaceport outside the city, making sure to tuck his badge away under his vest.

The ride didn’t take nearly as long as Jean expected, Leeroy made excellent time even rushing through the close nit trees, the sure footed spugghoss darting like a fox between the plants. The two crested a small rise, passing a number of grounded ships before Jean dismounted by the diner. The gritty assemblage of galactic creatures there didn’t give the sheriff a second look, he fit in well without his badge. Just another ruffian stopping for a drink or a quick bite of chow. Jean left Leeroy to graze, trusting the spugghoss to stick around before stalking inside, his spurs clinking with every step. Locating the alien who appeared to work there Jean ambled up, tipping his hat politely.

“Howdy partner, I’m reckoning you own this fine establishment.”

“You’d be reckonin’ wrong stranger, though I do work here. Welcome to Angie’s, how can I help you?” The alien, who looked to have wooden skin and antlers inconspicuously shoved a poster into his pocket. “We serve breakfast till five so you got thirty three seconds if you’re looking to get our famous boiled Frupple legs.”

“Naw, I ain’t lookin’ for a meal hoss.” Jean leaned against the wooden counter, lowering his voice ever so slightly. “I’m actually lookin’ for a ship, well, the ship’s owner more realistically. I’ve got important business with them I think she touched down in these parts not too long ago.”

“She…?” The alien’s wooden eyebrows rose ever so slightly.

“Yeah, she as in the ship. Ya know how these things are.”

“Oh aye, yeah, yeah.” The alien pulled a dirty rag off its antlers and began to wipe the counter top, his movements methodic and slow. “So which ship are we talkin’ here?”

Jean smiled, confident now. He pretended to think, stroking his chin. “The Ranger I believe it was. A big freighter ship, the kind traders use. Ringing any bells hoss?”

“I know just the one.” The alien assured rehanging the rag on his antlers. For just a moment Jean caught a rather suspicious smirk on the alien’s face, but it was gone again in the next second. “I don’t know where her captain is, off in the city somewhere. But I’d be happy to introduce you to her first mate. Foller me.”

The two ambled out of the diner, engaging in a little small talk. Jean walked at an easy pace in no rush, careful to not appear overly interested. Several times the alien who introduced himself as Valen attempted to pry into Jean’s “business” but was constantly frustrated by the sheriff’s dismissive manner. Together they rounded the port and the docked freighter came into sight, along with a number of its crew.

“There she lies, a nice ship don’t you think.” Valen announced as they approached. “Captained by Urma Looper, one of the better ‘traders’ in the galaxy.” Here Valen let the name resonate, looking for any reaction from Jean.

“Ain’t that right?” Jean said, not falling for the trap. “Ain’t that a famous name for something, yeah, she did that godawful music track, th’ Goobic Roar. Back on the Sol System. My lady friend at the time had to drag me kickin’ and screamin’ to that fiesta desastre.”

“No the Captain of this ship, isn’t musically gifted…. I don’t think.”

“I wouldn’t know hoss. Maybe they share a name. If that’s actually who captains this ship.”

“You don’t know the name of the person you’re doing business with?”

“They’re the mysterious type.” Jean explained, clapping the wooden skinned alien on the shoulder. “Gotta be careful these days ya know. She’s no fool that gal. It was like wrangling a rattler just trying to pin down a single planet with her, let alone something as specific as a space port.”

“Ha, you can say that again stranger. Ursa likes to keep things down tight.” Valen chuckled, before waving down a large black man with a goatee and metal dreadlocks. “Hoy Mac, I got someone whose been looking for you.” The man in question stood a full head higher than Jean, and the roughrider would’ve sworn the very ground rumbled with each of his pounding footsteps. Not to be intimidated Jean shoved his fingers into his gun belt and stood his ground, eyeing the proposed first mate up and down.

“Howdy there, I hear you’ve got the Cap’n of this fine freighter’s ear if not else. You must be Mac.” Jean reached up and touched the tip of his hat with one finger. “Th’ name’s Jean. And I’m looking to have a nice chat with your captain, Ursa, I think it was…” Behind Jean, Valen groaned aloud having realized his mistake to late. Jean smiled holding out his hand to shake. “Now that is a famous name.”
