Name: Zrell Age: 32 Race(s): Imp Gender: Male Appearance: very short even for an imp, dogs tower over Zrell with his mighty height of three foot two, clearly making up for his lack of size he is fairly bulky; barrel chested and with arms which would seem impressive on a larger frame. Has a rough black beard and hair which he keeps slicked back, the dark colour of which stands out against his pale skin. Overall he looks like a miniature biker gang member: crusty leather jacket, white shirt complete with egg stains, inch thick boots and the oldest pair of jeans you have ever seen.
Powers: telekinesis Racial Trait(s): omnidirectional senses Genetic Trait(s): small size Sorcery abilities: manifestation of wings, can infuse objects with magical properties, slight boost to racial telekinesis, awareness and much to Zrell’s annoyance shortness. Patron occasionally offers tasks to complete in exchange for boons.
Personality: grumpy and unwelcoming, Zrell has had enough of other people causing him problems or begging him to deal with theirs. People would probably understand if he bothered to tell them about his past instead of doing his best to be unpleasant. To friends though he can be slightly more welcoming and even funny, especially if drink and cards are involved. Is very self conscious about his height, especially since his patron demon said they would take an inch off his height every time he annoyed them. To the unfortunate soul who decides to take a jab at him for being short a trip to A&E is guaranteed.
Biography: Zrell was born into slavery deep in a mine, as he grew up he was abused and malnourished, this greatly attributed to his less than average height. Luckily the slaves were rescued when he was at an early age, unluckily the slave rehabilitation schemes in New York didn't work at best and at worst chucked the newly freed into ghettos with the worst of criminals… the latter happened to Zrell. In order to survive the ex-slaves turned to sorcery, taking power from powerful demons who offered the power to protect themselves in exchange for deeds in the material realm, this rough upbringing made Zrell bitter and hateful of those who seek to oppress metahumans blaming them for his troubles. In his early adulthood he joined a gang which served his demonic master and carried out attacks on rich pure humans who they saw as the scourge of society. Zrell has since escaped his former life and is now working as a personal bodyguard, he has since tried to make amends for his crimes and tries to support cooperation between races when he can. Despite this he still maintains his sorcerous connections, you never know when it might come in useful to have a demon on your side.
Equipment: self enchanted dagger which acts an extension of his omnidirectional senses, allowing him to 'see' the area it is in, and can be summoned back to him at will; can be moulded into different shapes and even fixed when broken given enough time and energy.
It wouldn't be that strange for a changing to have multiple names (maybe just a male and female, depending on which body they're using)
Ya know...I might use multiple names. I had also contemplated her personality slightly fluctuating depending on the person, gender, etc that she shifted to.
Name: Icarus Ryder Age: 25 Race(s): Null Powers: N/A Racial Trait(s): Magical Immunity Genetic Trait(s): Mage-bane Hormone Witchcraft ingredients: None Sorcery abilities: None Ki abilities: None Personality: Icarus is a kind man and loving father, wrapped in the shell of a cold-hearted soldier. He, for the most part, presents himself as a calm and intelligent person with a sarcastic but friendly attitude. While not overly friendly, he is a kind yet stern man; he is willing to help those in need but he has an intense dislike of those with a sense of entitlement or superiority simply because of their race. He also greatly values his family and sympathises with those in similar situations, often putting the needs of his wife and daughter above himself.
He can quickly transition to a serious and focussed demeanor when required, a skill he acquired in the military. He is deadly and cold if he needs to be, showing little remorse but willing to show mercy to a defeated enemy if they surrender. He is also highly tactical in combat, often looking for weaknesses to exploit or steps to take in order to win, with a fairly good grip on long-term strategy as well.
Biography: Icarus was born and raised to a fairly average family in the city-state of New London, part of the United Kingdom of British City-states, or just the UK for short, a collection of city states run by a single Monarch, Queen Victoria II. Growing up, he did well in school and was well-liked by his teachers but once the Latent magical talents of his classmates began to bloom, his nature as a Null meant he was cast aside in the eyes of the magic-focussed educational board. By the time he entered Secondary School, He looked down upon by his Teachers and mocked, even physically bullied by his peers. This lead him to resent his Null heritage and isolate himself, his parents unable to help.
This continued until an elven girl transferred into his class, named Alyssa d'Lac. She possessed abnormally strong Elemental Powers, with both Water and Lightning Elements, but had difficulty controlling it, which lead to people keeping their distance. Seeing he was unaffected by her rampant powers, she gravitated towards Icarus and formed a close friendship as he helped her learn to control her powers, and she helped him accept his nature as a Null human. The two fell in love not long after, and would later come to be married at the age of 20. His daughter was born two years after that and with another child on the way, Icarus agreed to take one last deployment before taking an extended to leave to spend time with his family.
Icarus left schooling at 18 and floated around jobs for a while until joining up with a UK-Based PMC called Aegis a year later, specialising in Military Security and Counter-Mage operations. Over his career, he underwent training in multiple specifications, including Marksmanship, CQC, Combat Engineer and Demolitions. He was awarded the rank of Lieutenant just shy of his 25th birthday, 7 years after enlisting, and was dispatched with his platoon to the City-state of New York by request of the Mayor.
All guns are magically enhanced to provide Anti-Magic Effects, effective in piercing or destroying weak (Class 1) to moderate (Class 4) magical barriers. The Nemesis is an exception to this, as it is heavily enchanted and can pierce magical barriers below Class 9.
Magically Enhanced to be lighter, quieter and more durable than standard combat gear, as well as harder to detect by IR Sensors. The helmet also has magically-enhanced Night Vision, IR, UV and Drone Feed Modes. Lights are adjustable in colour and brightness for stealth and intimidation
Recon Drone with a few basic enchantments, like an improved battery and remote feed to helmet. Loses signal past 200m.
@TheUnknowable I've only got two questions about the CS: First, How does the Mage-bane hormone work exactly? Does it turn the absorbed magical energy into carbohydrates and then metabolise them, or does it turn it directly into chemical energy for the body, like metabolising carbohydrates but not literally?
Second, what scale to we measure the strength of magic by? It is sorted by Names (eg Apprentice, Novice, Adept etc), Ranks (E-Class to S or EX Class), Numbers (eg X Units of Mana/Magical Energy) or something else?
@Shadow DaedalusAt first it's a literal simple carbohydrate, like a sugar, so it will give you a boost of energy, but once your blood sugar gets too high, it starts getting stored.
The power ranks are technically done on a 1-10 system, with a 1 being "with enough effort, I can do something" and 10 being the limit of what a human can do, but not all powers fit well into that. Just list the strength based on the limits of what you can do with it.
Edit: I'm guessing the S-rank in your CS would be something like Class 7 or 8, with Class 8 being around where people start considering you a master. Witchcraft and sorcery can technically go beyond class 10, as can the abilities of certain races (Awakened (limitless energy from heaven) Angels, some spirits, gods and demi-gods, etc). Class 5 is about average.
@TheUnknowable I was thinking of closer to Class 9, as a kind of 'King Slayer' weapon. It's heavy and unwieldy, difficult to move and the ammo is limited but It's made to break through Magical Defences where all others have failed. I'll adjust my CS in a sec
@TheUnknowable, so I'm trying to think about how to best employ something like witchcraft in situations where Sam may need something instantly. Considering she has no combat/fighting experience, her skills will really revolve around deception/misdirection.
I'm thinking like an "illusionist" type thing for her, which goes along with her shifting ability. Her power would essentially be planting suggestive thoughts, or conjuring something that might be perceived as real, or something like causing temporary blindness. So, do you think that might be more along the lines of Sorcery?
@HallionWitchcraft is powerful but slow. Sorcery is much quicker. For an ability that could be used effectively in battle, sorcery makes more sense, due to the fast pace.
