Spring, Turn 0: The Hottgug Festival

The city of Grunn was unique. It was the only orc settlement south of the Great River that was never allowed to be under the rule of a single Clan. Instead, it was a communal settlement carved into the Hottgug Mountain. Grunn was also home to the Hall of Life, where shamans studied, trained and learned how to talk to the ancient spirits. Banners hung from all around the city. The Warmonger clan, the Mawnsta Clan, all of them, as their hosts marched to it's cusp and camped. The Hottgug Festival was party and politic alike. Orcs drank, partied and fought. Only during the Hottgug was bloodshed allowed within the village. And it was a great opportunity for ambitious young warriors who sought to challenge a Chieftain in front of a crowd.

Huts popped up in an otherwise sleepy little village that dotted the Marggg River, and from it the Hottgug Festival started, lasting nearly four weeks. For unbloodied warriors, it was an opportunity to take part in the Games--where by winning one of the many competitions there, they could leave the village themselves as a feared warrior of their clan. For the shamans, it was often a time to meet with the masters of the Hall of Life, from whose tower often spoke wisdom and shared knowledge. For the Clan Chieftains however, it was a time for delegation, challenge and strategy. Few times would the Chieftains of opposing clans come to meet to talk, to challenge, to deliberate.

Clan Willbreakers

Spring, Turn 0: The Hottgug Festival

“I remember this place from when I was a mere child. I studied here under wise shaman who truly manifested with nature.” He let out a loud roar to his second as if to honor those men who had died. “It is good to see it still intact even after so long.” He shook his head before turning back to his Lieutenant, Freakshaw who stood taller than most of the orcs around and has been a valuable warrior to the chief-shaman. “Make sure our camp is secure and that we gather what we need while we’re here. Also make sure you and our best fighters compete within the games to gain us some honor. I must speak to Chief Jhatg of the Blackmaw clan.” The lieutenant made a low grunt in acknowledgement before the two headed their separate way.

He had known Chief Jhatg from previous Hottgug festivals, but even if he had not known him from before, the reputation that proceed him and the famed Blackmaw clan was more then enough of an introduction.

The Blackmaw camp was not a long walk away as much like the Willbreakers clan has been given close proximity out of respect so too was the Blackmaw clan. The two orcs outside the camp gave a slight growl toward the Chief-shaman but upon recognizing him specifically because of staff made out of the bones of his enemies with the the staff head being that of the former chief of the willbreakers. They nodded their head slightly and allowed him through.

“Ah Chief Jhatg, it is pleasant to see you well.” Bloodrider said to the chief who stood with his out among his orc brothers by the red markings along his body where he has been hit and still survived. The Chief turned with a snarl to Bloodrider before nodding as an apologize. “Chief-Shaman Bloodrider, you as well. Welcome once again to Huttgog.” Bloodrider nodded “Might we speak alone in your tent about the coming meeting?” Bloodrider said as he stepped closer. Chief Jhatg acknowledged and walked into his tent and sat down. “What is it you wish to discuss brother?” The chief asked somewhat confused as while the two older chiefs had met they never truly spoke and it was a rare occasion. “I believe we have led without a warchief for too long the clans are disorganized and fight amongst each other that serves no good to anyone. I can think of no better orc then you yourself, having proven yourself in battle and I would be honored to support you. Should that time come this meeting which I fear it may.” Bloodrider said leaning on his staff as if he were an old man. Jhatg stood up immediately and beat his chest “You word support me? That is good news to hear brother I shall remember this, if there is anything you need or I may help with let me know.” Bloodrider shook his head “Please, it’s nothing and we both know in due time we may need one. Anyways I must return to my camp take care.” With that Chief Bloodrider returned to his game and await for the calling of the chieftans.

Clan Mawnsta

Turn 0, The Hottgug Festival

It had been ages since the old Chief-Shaman had been a part of any festivities, not having been one to waste precious time on such fun and merriment. He sat in a hut which had been converted into what could be called a bar for the Hottgug, simply drinking as one would do in such an establishment. However his fun was disturbed by a pair of younguns who were flexing their muscles and inadvertently started a fight, Seereyes had seen this disturbance coming. It was only a matter of time before the entire bar would be fighting one another, as orcs do in this time.

While it was fun to fight, Gozgum was not in the mood to fight such inexperienced fools who were not very much into the mystical side of nature like he was. The Orc shifted in his stool a bit before reaching for his dark, twisted metal staff and knocking one of the young orcs over the head with it. The one who was hit stumbled and hit the ground, now unconscious. His challenger roared in protest, “That was my challenge, old fool!” It seemed this one was clearly too drunk to realize he was talking to a chieftain of a clan, not any chieftain either, one with magical ability.

With a sigh, he turned his hooded head towards the young orc with piercing milky white eyes and a long snow beard. He rose to his feet to meet the Orc who roared and attempted to throw a reckless punch, he sidestepped the punch and hit his challenger upside the head. It was a knockout.

Gozgum couldn’t help but laughing at the two orc’s attempts to outclass him. He raised his drink into the air and roared, “To Hottgug and to a merry time more!” The shaman was met with cheers from all around the bar, entertained by the short fight and the toast from the chieftain.

The shaman went on to finish his drink and went off to find the other chieftains, wanting to return to his homelands and plan.
