Kat is usually a loner, she prefers peace and quiet and is very shy and socially awkward in general. But you should see her after she had a few drinks – you can’t find a more talkative person. She only has one or two close friends, she doesn’t like to make shallow acquaintances. But if she deems you worthy and you manage to get closer to her, she would do anything for you.

She enjoys reading and watching movies and TV shows (anything fantasy or science fiction) – her idea of a perfect evening is sitting in a comfy armchair wrapped in a warm blanket, holding a cup of hot chocolate and a great book. Since she adopted Lexie she also started jogging (very lightly) and hitchhiking in the beautiful nature around the city.

History:

Kat was born and raised in Czech Republic, in central Europe. She was always a very smart child – learning to read and write long before she even went to school and reading every book she could get her hands on. Unfortunately, that always made her sort of an outsider amongst the other children. Most of her friends from that time were imaginary.

Being very good with technology, she decided to university and study programming. There were only few girls amongst dozens of boys in her classes, but she didn’t mind – she did much better in male collective than with other women. During her studies she worked part time for a software development company and once she finished her master’s degree she already had a career lined up in front of her.

But she didn’t feel like being tied to one spot at such a young age. Despite being afraid of new things and places, the desire to see the world has won and Kat moved to Barcelona – her job allowing her to work from anywhere with a decent internet connection. She lived there for a few weeks, but decided that big city life isn’t for her and she moved to a smaller town in the countryside instead. Since then, she had changed the scenery a couple of times, she lived in Sweden, Italy, even on Bali for a short time, always settling in a small town and exploring the lesser known sights of the country.

She arrived to Drumvar a few weeks ago, and wasn’t really planning on staying long, the weather being too cold and rainy for her taste, but then she walked past a local animal shelter and immediately fell in love with Lexie. Kat adopted her and before she knew it, she fell in love with the city and decided to stay longer.

Ellen's a right-out understated bohemian type, often wearing throwback-influenced clothes as a form of self-expression. Her chestnut-brown hair is long and more on the auburn side, same as her dark eyes. Occasionally she wears horn-rimmed glasses, but lately wears contact lenses more frequently. She’s small of stature, barely over 5’2”, and rather slender.

Personality:

Ellen is a vibrant human being. While being extremely intelligent, she’s rather ruled by her emotional nature. While the quality is a terrific asset in her approach to art, it can color her social interactions somewhat unpredictably. She might react hastily to a situation that she wasn’t prepared for, or lose her temper easily if too frustrated too quickly under just the right conditions. She’s old enough by now that she’s developed enough self-control to mitigate most potential disasters of such nature, but it doesn’t prevent her from having an incessantly busy and taciturn inner monologue during such instances. Ultimately, though, she’s got good intentions. When not in conflict, Ellen can be charming despite also being rather absent-minded, eccentric, and occasionally clumsy by way of both body and speech.

Ellen grew up as the oldest daughter of an American infantryman, moving frequently around the world until she graduated from high school and double-majored in both Journalism and Art History at the University of North Carolina. After graduating, she worked on and off as a producer in various newsrooms before tiring of the conflict-heavy environments and then began work as a graphic designer at a small firm in Austin, Texas, then in New York City. All the while, she developed her abilities as a songwriter and musician, taking influence from mostly U.K. acts such as The Beatles, T Rex, and David Bowie. After a great deal of encouragement from friends, she applied at the age of 32 to pursue further studies in art at NYU and was shocked to be accepted. A year into her studies, she was offered an opportunity to do a graduate student exchange at the University of Drumvar, with a chance to earn experience as a teaching assistant. Not at all one to spare an opportunity to not visit the homeland of another musical hero of hers, Donovan Leitch, Ellen enthusiastically went. She's been in Drumvar for approximately five months, and while she still has yet to truly carve out her social network in town, she dreads the idea of leaving. Life in Drumvar has been rather peaceful but also pleasant and exciting; teaching has been going smoothly, gigs aren't hard to get, and people are generally very friendly.

While doing fairly grueling creative work by day, by night Ellen hammered out any frustration with work by developing her abilities as a songwriter and musician, taking influence from mostly U.K. acts such as The Beatles, T Rex, and David Bowie. She began performing music with friends four years into her time in NYC, finding herself involved with the occasional music project and in a couple of bands for fun here and there. Six years after moving to New York, and not long after her promotion to Creative Director, the firm was acquired by an even larger firm, and massive layoffs ensued. Preferring to walk into her fate head-on and walk out with something rather than nothing, she took a sizable severance package and left her job.

After a great deal of encouragement from friends, Ellen applied at the age of 32 to pursue further studies in art at New York University and was shocked to be accepted. As part of her studies, she was offered an opportunity to do a graduate student exchange at the University of Drumvar, with a chance to earn experience as a teaching assistant. Not at all one to spare an opportunity to live again in Europe—not to mention the homeland of another musical hero of hers, Donovan Leitch—Ellen enthusiastically packed her life in NYC into a small storage unit and went.

Ellen has been in Drumvar for approximately five months, and while she still has yet to truly carve out her social network in town, she dreads the idea of leaving within the coming months. Creative work, especially music, has reached new heights for her after leaving what had been normal life for so long; life in Drumvar has been rather peaceful but also pleasant and exciting; teaching has been going smoothly, gigs that pay well aren't hard to get, and people are generally very friendly. Currently Ellen is watching over the home of a University professor taking an academic sabbatical abroad with her family, and also looks after the family dog, a Bearded Collie named Saoirse.
