Name: Jonah Kalrem
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Generally Homosexual
Chosen Marking: An upside-down triangle, on the left half of his chest.
Appearance:
Without the red string, of course.
Familiar: Jonah does not have a familiar yet. He's the only Chosen to not have one by the time he's been fully trained, and this bothers him. A lot.
Out of character, Jonah doesn't have a familiar because he still hasn't fully "mastered" being a water chosen. He's afraid of his powers somewhat, explained in the history. A familiar will be given to him once Jonah learns not to fear this power.
Chosen Element: Water
Skills:
Basic Manipulation: Currently, he's able to manipulate up to two hundred liters by volume of water or ice with precision, as long as the material remains within about 50 meters. He can manipulate larger portions of water or ice, but it will be much more general and harder to control. This might include in creating a large tidal wave and send it in a direction, but he would have little control over its speed, and wouldn't be able to maintain it for long. Jonah is also not affected by the heat or cold of the water/ice he creates.
Create/Destroy Water: Jonah can create as much water in liquid form as he can control. This will scale as his capacity with the Basic Manipulation ability increases. The water he creates disappears as soon as Jonah falls unconscious or if he dismisses it. Note: Water he manipulates that already exists is not destroyed by this effect.
Notable techniques:
Icicle Spear: Jonah's most used technique right now is to form spear-heads of ice, and send them at his target.
Weapon creation: When in melee encounters, Jonah equips himself with weapons made of ice. His most common weapons are a Trident paired with a shield, but he can make other weapons, such as knives, swords, and javelins.
Construction: Using either ice or water, Jonah can create structures such as walls or bridges.
Encase: Jonah's most useful battle technique involves encapsulating his target in a sphere of water, and turning it into ice.
Weapon: Fitting with Jonah's personality, his weapon is a Viola. Nothing notable about it, just a regular instrument. It's what Jonah does with it thats dangerous. By playing "
Decretum" on it, he can capture the attention of anybody nearby, and bring them into a trance. This completely clears the affected minds (temporarily of course) of all thoughts. Jonah must continuously play, and any disturbance, such as a loud noise or being hit by something, breaks the trance immedietly. Jonah must also maintain eye contact with whatever he's hypnotizing.
Personality: He's reclusive, but by no means is he edgy. He tends to keep to himself in most things, but has no problems coordinating with others, its just not his thing. If Jonah finds himself comfortable around people, he'll often make witty remarks and stupid puns, and won't hesitate to share his thoughts. Jonah takes his abilities very seriously and is careful with them, borderline afraid of them. His hobbies include music and poetry.
History: "Alright, the story's not a short one, so you better not interrupt."
From a very young age, Jonah always had an affinity with the water. It was so calming to him. It helped him to think, and to concentrate. He spent most of his time by the river on the north end of the town, just sitting there, staring. His parents always told him that he would be the water chosen, and Jonah figured it would be something important, but Jonah couldn't figure out what they meant. One day though, A strange old woman came one day when Jonah was about 6 years old, smiling, saying something like "Im glad to finally have a successor!" Jonah didn't really understand, until the woman showed him a mark on the back of her palm- the same on his chest.
Once it sunk into Jonah that we was going to be the next Water Chosen, he got giddy with excitement. It took nearly a day for him to calm down. He wanted to start training right away, but was told time and again that training didn't start until he was ten, at least. Jonah begged and pleaded, but nobody budged. Finally having enough one day, at age 9, Jonah went off to the river and tried to use magic. He failed in a spectacular fashion, not being able to move any of it an inch. After nearly an hour, Jonah got so fed up that he started pounding with the water with his bare fists, shouting in frustration. And then, he fell in.
"Ironic, isn't it? The Water Chosen not knowing how to swim?"
Jonah panicked and shouted, but nobody was nearby that day. He continued to thrash about, water filling his lungs as he floated downstream to the center of town. Thankfully he was found in time. The current Water Chosen had been on a walk and saw Jonah in the river. She pulled him out on a bed of ice, and drew the water out of his lungs. After a short break, the two began to return home.
"And i'll tell you. Despite having nearly drowned and being pulled out of the water through ice, ive never felt more hot in my entire life. It felt like my forehead was on fire. I was such an idiot..."
Jonah's parents and the Water chosen had a discussion. His training could start a half of a year early, so that incidents like this wouldn't happen again. She came by again the next day and took Jonah away to the river and began his first lesson.
"She told me, 'Do you see the water? Look into it deeply. Look deep enough and you'll see it has a mind of it's own. It doesn't like being told what to do. You cant
command water.'"
For the rest of the day, Jonah tried in vain to move the water. He got more and more frustrated at himself before smacking the ground. The old lady then produced a viola, and started to play
Decretum. Jonah had calmed down by the end of it, and she asked him to try moving the water again. After he cleared the tears from his eyes from his earlier frustration, Jonah tried again.
"And, i did it."
Jonah made small back-and-forth waves and splashes in the river. He jumped in joy, before the woman told him it was time to end for the day. These sessions continued everyday as Jonah practiced more and more. By the time he was 11, he'd managed to convert water into ice. It was also around this age that he asked to learn how to play the viola like her. So every other day it was music lessons, instead of water practice. In neither area was Jonah a fast learner, but he applied himself everyday, or so it seemed to the Water Chosen. Every time he went to the river, Jonah was afraid. He was afraid the water would fight back with the mind it had. He was afraid that he wouldn't be able to control it and would end up hurting someone.
It wasn't until Jonah was 18 that he was considered a true Water Chosen, and had mastered his element. Despite this, he's still afraid of his powers. He only uses them when absolutely necessary, which makes him much less experienced than most Chosen.
"Now if you don't mind, i'm currently trying to compose a song. I've wasted enough time telling you my story."
