Age of Rebirth: The Rising Tide

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones"

-Albert Einstein

This quote adressed a major fear at the time it was said, nuclear annihilation. A threat that was once thought would bring upon the end of mankind if a true World War 3 broke out.

To put it simply, these fears were justified.

World War 3 began with a simple mistake really, the United States would accidentally shoot down a Russian plane over Syria, and in response, the city of Los Angeles would be turned into a nuclear wasteland. Fast forward 3 months and suddenly nearly every major nation on the planet has either suffered a nuclear bomb being dropped on them itself, or the radioactive fallout would decimate their populations.

By the end of the short war, sometimes referred to as "Ultima Bello" by new age philosophers, the human population would be decimated. Half a decade after the first bomb was dropped on Los Angeles, a total of 5 billion out of the Earth's 8 billion population at the time would have died, whether it be by the bombs itself, radiation from the aftermath, genocide from regimes trying to stay stable, diseases that formed with the collapse of the planet's health sector, or the mass flooding that the bombs caused. An unforeseen effect by the nuclear chaos would be the acceleration of climate change, bringing upon the loss of thousands of kilometers of land, with great cities getting wiped off the map because of the rising tide.

Of course, some nations were not as effected as others. Countries like Australia, South Africa, Ethiopia, Peru, and New Zealand were able to escape the full front of the bombs, facing little radiation compared to some of their neighbors and only losing smaller amounts of territory to Global Warming. In the years after the war, these nations, along with a few others, were able to keep themselves somewhat stable, and were the last hope for a renewed human civilization to equal that of the generations that came before the war.

This thought of them being the last hope though, it wasn't needed. Of the 3 billion humans that survived the "apocalypse", a majority of them existed outside of these nations, and they were forced to go through the chaos alone. Within 200 years of the bombs ravaging the United States, new city-states began to rise from it's ashes, whether it be by coming out of bunkers, or by conquering warring tribes that were formed in the chaos.

Within 250 years, majority of the planet had city-states start to be formed, and contact with the nations the surviving nations would be quick.

Now, 400 years after the fact, a large amount of these city-states have grown to be powerful nations in their own right, with some even rivaling the strength of those nations that survived World War 3. At this point, it seems that humanity is finally entering a new age after the apocalypse. Just as their was the Classical Era, the Medieval Era, the Renaissance, and so much more, it now seems that the next chapter is starting to be written. A chapter that may eclipse all the others in glory.

It seems that we are entering an Age of Rebirth.

Welcome to The Age of Rebirth: Rising Tide, a post-apocalyptic NRP based around how humanity is recovering from the chaotic 400 years that have predated the start date (2430). Basic tech-levels are to be around what a presumed 2025 world would be like at the most, with levels varying from nation to nation (with some of the earlier city states being around the basic 2025 level, the newer city states being slightly less advanced, and the nations that survived the war being slightly more, the explanation for this is that they cared less about advancing in places like warfare or space colonization and more in trying to not fall into chaos). Along with this, the nations that survived the war have presumably gone through multiple government changes and have conquered/colonized many of the surrounding territories.

During this NRP, I (and anyone who is given Co-GM, if I feel like that is needed) will periodically make Lore posts that will go more in depth from the character point of view of people who lived during the war or during the fallout.

Now lets get to the fun part, the rules:

1. While this RP is labeled as Advanced, that means I expect long and meaningful posts. I will accept grammatical mistakes.
2. Be Realistic (No Super Sci-Fi Tech)
3. My word (and the word of anyone else I might grant a rank to to help me run this) is final.
4. Basic Roleplayer Guild rules apply.
5. History must start after 2018, nothing before.
6. IC will be character based
7. No Godmoding/Metagaming
8. Have Fun
9. Only post your app in the Character section after it is accepted.
10. The Year is 2430.
11. If it isn't stated clearly, you can play as those nations that did survive the Hell Fire.

Has the environment changed due to the nuclear war? Like nuclear winter or something like that.

I'm not a scientist so don't quote me on this if you ever need to do a paper, but:

Assume that the climate has mostly recovered from what the nuclear bombs did. The only major change is the loss of thousands of miles of territory because of the rising sea level.

Great! Any idea of where you'd want your nation to be?

Cybernetics: Minor, at most. Anything regarding Cybernetics and your nations military would be experimental at most.

Robots: Robots, at this point in time, are mainly used for production lines and not on the battlefield (unless you count drones).

Mutations: You can have minor, and I mean minor mutations amongst your populations, such as Purple Eyes as a small minority, but nothing like Super Strength, Super Speed, or Ghouls if we are going by fallout standards.

Hmm. I am mostly having some thoughts about the English lands. With some thoughts about semi-aquatic mutations.

Since fallout, rising sea levels and us human being adaptable critters. I think cybernetics might be used in civilian fields.

What about genetic modifications?

Cybernetics, in the sense of civilians to help with rising tides, could work, espicially considering if you are putting your nation in England. Mainly it would just come down to how you'd write it in your application, and I'd have to make sure it didn't come of as overpowered.

Genetic modifications would be minor at most, similar to what I said about the ones caused by the bombs, you won't be giving people Super-Strength and making them 8 feet tall, but having an ability to change minor genes, such as hair colour, or getting rid of genetic diseases or mental disabilities before birth, would be okay.

@NecroKnight
Archeology would be fine, considering multiple cities/monuments would be underwater at this point because of Sea Levels.
Underwater Cities are a bit too advanced for this setting though.

Yeah, that concept seems okay then. Just nothing too advanced.
