December 29th
After hours of intense negotiation, the Samgolan Technocratic Union manages to add in their own amendment to the Brick & Mortar Act, establishing their presence in the political arena by this brief friendship in the National Assembly.

January 3rd
In response to the Brick & Mortar Act in voting in the National Assembly, the Democratic Alliance for Reform begins campaigning with a prominent series of television ads in Kamidye promising the success of the Brick & Mortar Act. It's results will not be known until polling results are revealed.

January 7th
The 5th Air Wing of the Samgolan Air Force is deployed to Ziwa, stationed at Matutuke Air Force base. With 3 EMB 312 Super Tacano's and 5 Alpha Jets, the small air wing is designed for air superiority and ground attack. The Embraer EMB 312 Super Tucano, also named ALX or A-29, is a turboprop light attack aircraft designed for counter-insurgency, close air support, and aerial reconnaissance missions in low-threat environments, as well as providing pilot training. Designed to operate in high temperature and humidity conditions in extremely rugged terrain, the Super Tucano is highly maneuverable, has a low heat signature, and incorporates third-generation avionics and weapons systems to deliver precision-guided munitions.



The 3 ground attack fighters would begin their operations in support of the Samgolan Army by the end of the week.

January 9th
The Lawful Protection Bureau bill was called for a vote in the National Assembly.

Januaty 10th
A reported loss of nearly $7,500,000,000 for Samgola's GDP is reported due to high homelessness and unemployment in the nation: The government's approval hits an all time low of 48.61%.

January 11th
The first airborne operation is taken out when a single Alpha Jet conducts light ordinance bombing in northwest Ziwa, operational intelligence indicated a small enclave of Islamic Army combatants were struck, likely killing between 15-35 militants there. The air field at Matutuke Air Force Base are in abysmal shape and a letter is sent from General of the 5th Air Wing Biya requesting funds in the amount of $2,150,000 be allotted to allow for repairs and upgrades.



January 13th
The trial Mahol v. Samgola, heard in the Kamidye 1st Circuit Court is finished, the verdict slated to be read by the end of the week due to the heightened perceptions of the case in the political spotlight.

After being offically confirmed as party leader Jasura’s first duties were to travel to the highly controversial area of Ziwa where the militia and the army had seem to be engaging each other. Jasura and his party marched in and promised that they would be there to protect them if they could. While legally parties were banned from having any security division, the law strictly said anyone may hold a weapon so long as they were sane and so Jasura and his “activists” moved into the province and were armed. Offering protection to towns and cities as well as recruiting new members to help. Jasura and his party would begin setting up operations here before expanding to neighboring provinces.



Zan sat quietly and prayed in his Cell, he had just recently gotten out of the court. He believed he persuaded the court and that they would see things his way. He rose from the ground and walked towards the cell bars. Outside stood the guard Welida Bovak, a guard who served. “Bovak, whatever happens I want you to know you are appreciated for your service. To me and the country. Thank you.” Bovak confused turned around and zan had gone back to his bed to lay down.



“Again, myself and the Dawn will be voting no on this horrendous Brick and Mortor Act, firstly the amount of money put into it while we are already in a debt and losing money is horrid. Then you wish us to sacrifice the countryside landscape for highways and the urban settings when help is needed in the rural lands as well. For shame. As for the Lawful Protection Bureau, while we wish their duties were expanded we approve of wholeheartedly so that this government nor any that follow it may become corrupt.” Zaya Kolin. Strangely enough while before the Dawn members were wearing suits like any typical MNA, some Dawn members were wearing Black suits with a yellow tie, while others had pins. Zaya had none of this remaining an opponent to Jasura in any way he could.

“Furthermore, I would like to propose the following bills. Firstly the Governmental Oversight Bill. Which in it’s own premise allow myself and the other opposition parties to form a shadow government to oversee the current government. Secondly I propose the Parliamentary Military Oversight, which again allows the assembly to oversee the government specifically the military.

Salomon Massamba, a younger MNA had decided to take the floor and speak to his fellow MNAs. “It wasn’t long ago that a flight from Samgola air had crashed and killed several people, a tragedy that is still fresh in the hearts and minds of many Samgolans. Many called for the extreme, regulation or nationalization, today however I propose an alternative solution. Let us grant Samgola air an $8 billion tax credit, this will give them the opportunity to innovate in both aviation safety and infrastructure, things that our nation is in desperate need of. Let’s give the free market the opportunity to create a better Samgola.”

The Trial of Zan Mahol was a long and tenuous thing to say the least mainly lawyers loyal to the SD saying everything they could about how legal the SDSF truly was. The trial lasted a total of five hours before the jury was sent to decided upon the case where they spent an additional three hours to decide the fate of Mahol. Eventually, the Jury came back to the court and stated, “Zan Mahol is found guilty of breaking law thirty-seven, however he is not guilty of treason to the state,” the speaker told the courtroom, the lawyers for Mahol sighed in relief as this was the best possible outcome for the man.

“Very well, Zan Mahol, I sentence you to no more than five years in prison, but only three years with good behavior,” the judge said, before hitting his gavel down, “I find this trial adjourned.”

The Minister of Defense was glad to see that the Air Force was providing some much needed support for the ground forces in Ziwa. However the situation of Matutuke Air Force Base has definitely caught his eye, not wanting for the pilots to work under hazardous situations in their own air fields as well as wanting something that was more up-to-date, allowed the funds of just over two-million to be allocated to the air base. It would no doubt improve their ability to strike at the militia forces with ease.

As the weeks passed and the new government aged, it seemed events were swirling more out of control. Rampant unemployment and growing homelessness, the arrest of a party leader and the looming arrest of another as well an escalation in relations with the national militias into seemingly all-out war. Samgolan killing Samgolan once again and the last civil war was not even a distant memory.

Throughout these weeks the party's slight presence in the National Assembly was harshly felt, resigned largely to the role of a single seat observer. Beyond the calm facade of Mr. Boro in the National Assembly there lay yet deeper concerns for the leadership of the Labour Front, primarily that of funding after the party had invested much into the Dabarado campaign. A campaign which could be considered a victory given the accomplishment that Labour Front was now the second largest party in the province but the void now found in the party's funds and the paltry returns of fundraisers held in Dabarado and the capital were far from encouraging. Regardless of the growing concern within the party's leadership, the Labour Front continued it's actions using it's seat and voice at the vote.

Two bills proposed by members of the Liberty Coalition had been called to a vote and awaited the National Assembly's decision. The Brick and Mortar Act promised to fight unemployment through a grand infrastructure project and the Lawful Protection Bureau proposing the creation of a new bureau intended to challenge and prevent injustice. Both proposals to the view of the Labour Front did nothing to directly harm the interests of Samgolan labour and people, indeed both in their own ways looked to further them and so when the call came to vote Mr. Boro cast his vote in support.

Mahol v. Samgola is finalized and Zan Mahol, former General in the Rubusana Regime and leader of the Samgola Dawn is sentenced to five years in prison, to be released January 14th, 1999. [-5% Approval for Samgola Dawn.]

January 15th
An airstrike launched in Kolodam by two Alpha Jets hits Okungelewe village, killing 51 civilians and an assumed 16 National Militia members. This is front page news for the entirety of the week, citing "Lack of Air Force Training Leads to Disaster in Ziwa." [-3.5% Approval of the Bureau of Defense. -16 National Militia. Sets back "Goal" for the mission back 4.8%.]

January 16th
Construction on Matutuke Air Force Base begins, with operations in paving concrete and setting up permanent hangars for the aircraft to be stationed and repaired on away from the elements. This is slated to be finished in May, 1994.

January 17th
The Lawful Protection Bureau is passed, legally allowing for the creation of said bureau. With a starting budget of $1,500,000 and a new cabinet position, it would be up to President Samuel Bassong to appoint a minister to head the bureau. [The Bureau of Lawful Protection is officially created. 75% Approval rating. Requires an appointment.]

January 22nd
The Brick & Mortar Act passes with the assistance of the Liberal Democrats and Labour Front. Per the Samgolan constitution, it's implementation will begin immediately, a colossal undertaking.

January 26th
The first rails of the Kamidye Line Expansion are officially laid with 3,200 workers now in full force working throughout the city--laying rails and concrete. [Unemployment drops by 0.02%]

The deficit for the 1994 fiscal year reaches $36,000,000,000 and the government's approval has dropped, but given that the Liberty Coalition has spent little time polling the population, no one in the administration can quantify how the population at large feels about the government.

The Pay Raise for Samgolan Reservists is fully appropriated and begins to be sent out to the reservists in the Samgolan Army. [+5% Approval for Bureau of Defense. +1.5% Approval for Liberty Coalition of State Employees.]

Humanitarian efforts in Ziwa continue, with Samgolan soldiers helping rebuild a school previously destroyed during the Civil War. [+.7% Approval for Bureau of Defense.]

February 1st
"Six Months In" is published. A scathing editorial of the Bassong Administration reveals that "little has been done except big promises," written by the trade unionist writer Nwankwe Owu whose two page op-ed blasted Samuel Bassong and his mostly inert cabinet. [-1% across all Demographics in Kamidye for Democratic Alliance for Reform. +5% Approval for Socialists & Trade Unionists for Labour Front. +8% Approval for Patriots for Samgolan Patriotic Party. +5% Approval for Youth for Samgolan Technocratic Union.]



February 2nd
A Panhard VBL with a dozen Samgolan soldiers is attacked in Subara. During the attack the Panhard is struck by a RPG, all three men inside are killed instantly. During the firefight 2 Samgolan soldiers are killed. [-2 Samgolan soldiers, -1 Panhard VBL]

Zan was officially given his sentence. 5 years, 3 is he was good. He had traded in his suit and party pin for an orange colored Jumpsuit. He was brought in and while the guards frowned upon him he worried not about them. In fact is was his fellow prisoners he was worried by. Many of whom were former soldiers if not leader’s of the civil war’s People’s Front who had still yet to been dealt with by the Bassong Government. Zan was mortified but ready for whatever may come at him. It was his first day at lunch on January 17th, a man came over to him as he sat alone Gerald Yonway, former officer of the people’s front. He along with 3 others came to Zan and with a shiv and stabbed him in the arm. Zan immediately clutched in pains and guards ran over but not before being stabbed 4 more times in other parts of the body. He was sent to intensive care and it was unsure how he would come out but it was belief by the grace of Allah and the medical team he would survive.



Jasura flipped over the table knocking the map and glass of water he had onto the ground breaking it. He had just received word of Zan’s official sentence, Zan had been a father figure to him. He was one of the few chosen by Zan to help Lead S.D. and now he lost him, for now at least. In the meantime he would have to rebuild the party and renew the confidence. His first action was to disarm any and all activists. At least for now, for now they would just be simple recruiters to the party attempting to round up support. Eventually when a majority for the S.D was made or if the country became desperate he would inform Zaya to bring up paramilitaries bill. For now, he had speeches to give and parties to smear, he needed to re-earn the supporters of the rural voters. But first with the introduction of the “Aviation Safety Act” he would head to Tenkosse sight of a tragedy to rally support against the government.

February 3rd
The first construction workers begin their shifts from the contracts handed out from the Brick & Mortar Act. There are no super highways, elevated platforms that resemble titans of concrete and re-bar. Instead, thee local highways are mostly gravel and quikcrete. Nearly 44,000 workers are employed across the entire nation, the vast majority of them doing simple manual labor. Money in their pockets wasn't easily turned down however. February 5th
The de facto president of neighboring Nigeria, President Sani Abacha appears in a special television broadcast regarding Samgola and the Islamic Army. In the broadcast, he condemns both the Islamic Army and the inability of Samgola to corral them, citing: "Nigeria will not be held ransom to the ineptitude of Samgolan politics. We support Samgola's desire to free the region of militant influence, but we cannot continue to abide the snake that is the National Militia that has infected our people."



February 6th
The country of South Africa enacts a 6% tariff on all electronic equipment, of which Samgola is a major exporter of. Because of this tariff, exports of electronic equipment falls by nearly 12%. The President of South Africa, F. W. de Klerk, cites an over saturation of the goods in the market and cites "a lack of diplomatic friendship" by a country that had formerly been very active in South African political circles in decades past. February 7th
Thousands of homeless city goers establish the Flats, a quarter mile stretch of land under the Kamidye Rail Line where communities form. The United Nations, receiving word of this epidemic have sent a delegate to Kamidye to meet with President Bassong and request allowing several hundred private doctors and a half dozen small non-profit organizations in to help in whatever way they can.





February 8th
The Global Economy climbed from 1.75% growth to 2.14% growth, increasing Samgola's reputed GDP growth by 0.34% in areas of plastic and oil & gas.

February 9th
The first State Housing Units, nicknamed Shu-Shu's (State Housing Units) are laid down and slated to finish by the end of the month. These simple--comprised entirely of one or two rooms--buildings are simple brick constructs with heat and water and not much else. Costing between $6,000-8,000 per unit, it's expected that they will be built in entire districts. Nearly 15,000 people apply for living in Shu-Shu's, and homelessness is expected to drop by 0.03% a week as batches of Shu-Shu's are finished after an initial drop of 0.1%--nearly 6,000 people. The efforts of the D.A.R.'s first major legislative achievement, the Brick & Mortar Act, were already bearing fruit. The bill responded to unemployment and homelessness concerns by trying to kill two birds with one stone: hiring those out of work to build simple dwellings for those without a roof over their head. Although it was in its earliest stages, and deeply expensive, the plan seemed to be working thus far: unemployment and homelessness were both on the decline, with thousands already being given by a job to work at and a cheap home to spend their pay on. The abundance of cheap, simple dwellings to be constructed in the months ahead was likely to drive down the costs of housing, allowing those who already had work from outside of the B&M programs to be able to better afford their lifestyle. Lessening the surplus of labour—even temporarily—with abundant construction work was also economically imaginable to be a cause of steadily rising wages for the rest of Samgola's poor and middle class, on top of the constructed infrastructure boosting economic activity and productivity. Hard evidence of all of these (hopeful) trends was hard to come by at this point, but the plausibility of it all would play well with the D.A.R.'s coalition partners, particularly the free-market toting Liberal Democrats. The government and the coalition that constituted it both seemed stronger than before, and Samgola was stronger, too. Other issues aside, things seemed to be going well.

Those other issues weren't insignificant, though. The insurgency in Ziwa was proving to be a massive headache for the President and especially for the Defense Ministry, headed by the coalition partner SPP. The Islamic Army was proving a substantially larger threat than originally expected, but the use of airstrikes had proved to have serious consequences. Although the President's assent to airforce participation in the mission had specifically forbid the use of strikes on civilian centres, poor training among Samgola's airforce pilots had nonetheless led to a deadly bombing in the Okungelewe village. The government had offered little to no reaction to these events, or to other ambushes in Ziwa, hoping for bad news to be brushed aside and instead clinging to what good news they could. Good news on this front was admittedly hard to come by, though. Even Nigeria, which President Bassong had hoped could be a contributing partner in dealing with the Islamic Army, did not seem to want to play by Samgola's rules; it seemed likely the Nigerians who commit only to unilateral action, which could have dire diplomatic consequences. With both the African Union, the UN (with their recently assented medical programme) and Western powers to appeal to in the event of an incident, though, and with Task Force Europa still based out of Kamidye, an invasion of Ziwa by Nigerian President Abacha would be incredibly reckless. Nonetheless, all possibilities needed to be accounted for, and Samuel Bassong was ready to take any action that needed to be taken to protect Samgola's integrity, regardless of who threatened it. Notwithstanding the president's readiness for a response, diplomacy would still, of course, be preferred.

Politics in coalition was a game of give and take. The Liberal Democrats had helped bring Brick & Mortar into fruition, despite the opposition Samgola Dawn's typical obstruction of the bill, and so the DAR was willing to bend its principles to accept a very generous aviation safety bill that would strongly favour Samgola Air, at the LD's behest. The amendment to the bill offered by the DAR, requiring at least some of the tax credit to be spent on hiring new highly trained Samgolans for various positions in engineering and maintenance, only made the act slightly more palatable. Nonetheless, Prime Minister Ephraim Yombi and President Samuel Bassong alike preferred to keep the Liberty Coalition and the current government intact, and so wee willing to whip their MNAs into support for the potentially controversial act of the National Assembly. The SPP, too, were expected to give their support when the time for the bill to be put to a vote eventually came. Hopefully the act would have some success at making Samgola's skies safer; they could certainly stand to be, given crises old and new.

More at the forefront of the DAR's messaging, though, were the actions being taken by Samgola Dawn. The SD had repeatedly slandered the DAR on the campaign trail, and had, in the President's eyes, attempted to overthrow the democratically elected and DAR-led government in a paramilitary coup only months earlier. They were a dangerous and unpredictable element to be kept in close check, especially considering the instability of their current leadership. With Zan Mahol sentenced to several years in prison for his formation of the SDSF, the SD's new leader was Jasura Hervit: an equally dangerous individual who was believed by some government authorities to have held a leadership role in the SDSF itself. Less insane among the SD's ranks was Zaya Kolin, Samgola Dawn's leader in the legislature. He seemed to have been sidelined in the SD's leadership election somehow, despite hid apparent overflow of support from MNAs. Given Jasura's believed connections to SDSF activities, the entire matter was deeply suspicious. The issue was a limp fish, though; there was little actionable proof of wrongdoing on Jasura's part, and the SD, even Kolin himself, seemed unlikely to cooperate with authorities. To that end, Samgola Dawn was simply to be continued to be put under watch, for now. The Security Bureau under David Desange would continue to monitor their activities, on the legitimate basis of their potential risk to national security. If the SD were seen to be breaking Samgolan law yet again, drastic action against the party would need to be taken. For now, though, their status as the government's main power in opposition was too strong a shield. Desange would need something solid if he was to arrest two different successive leaders of the primary opposition party to the government twice in a row.

February 11th
Nearly 13,000 people turn out for Jasura Hervit's rally in Dabrado. The immediate reaction is unknown but the turnout seems indicative that there are many who support the message of restriction on Air Samgola.

February 16th
National Militia soldiers reportedly take control of a nursery in Watongo village in Sapogandé State, with nearly 800 infants and their caretakers as prisoners. Witnesses reported to the Provincial Police who immediately alerted nearby Samgolan Army patrols. The area was cordoned off and the standoff began. Inside were 16 National Milita soldiers. They wanted ammunition, food, water and to be allowed to escape into Nigeria, otherwise they would kill everyone in the building--including themselves. Within hours, the Ziwa State News were on the scene as well.


February 24th
A Report on the State of Security in the Republic of Samgola is finished by David Desange of the Bureau of Security. It is hand delivered to the President and reported to be the most important document published since he won the presidency. The first U.N. Aid members enter Kamidye with the approval of President Samuel Bassong. 1,800 workers alongside 2,200 members of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Homes for Africa and smaller private organizations get to work on aiding the helpless and homeless and the jobless. A brief firefight in Northwestern Ziwa ends in three National Militia and one Samgolan Soldier dead. [-3 National Milita. -1 Samgolan Soldier.]

March 4th
The Flagbearers, a Patriotic activist group, is founded in Soussiam. They are devoted to the ideals of Samgola and favor conservative values. It is estimated their charter begin with approximately 250 members and they start the Flagbearers Listening Station, a local radio station that criticizes the Bassong Administration for requesting international aid and a weak national military.

March 5th
The Kamidye Rail Line expansion has laid nearly 61 miles of double sided track now and the project is ahead of schedule by 2%, at nearly 10% completed. [-.31% Unemployment]

March 6th
Already almost 10,000 Samgolans have been housed in new Shu-Shu's and another 3,000 have been pre-approved or approved for a private housing loan. 135,000+ have seen the effects of the Community Planning department--where trees, playgrounds, clinics and local constabularies have been planned in at-risk neighborhoods. March 8th
Unemployment drops another point and a half when the Allied Constructive Cooperative hires 35,000 workers to begin construction of additional highways and byways in the central province of Dabrado. [-1.30% Unemployment]

Terrorists and babies, that was the perfect start to a day as the Islamic Army managed to capture a nursery holding many infants and caretakers. Such a situation was delicate as the people made their demands clear, for a clear route to Nigeria. Unfortunately, attempting to clear them out might result in the slaughter of these minors, something they could not allow. With this in mind, the military would rather not take the chance, even if they were starving and had low ammunition. With that in mind however, it made the prospect of pushing in a lot more tempting, but they would have to be stealthy with how the army went about it.

The decision was made, the plan was made, a six man team would insert through a maintenance area while a negotiation was feigned. Another team would find an entrance through an unlocked window or roof if there was one. They would clear out the resistance quietly, alarm could not be raised until the last possible minute. The plan would take expert timing and perfect acting by the negotiator, but they could not allow themselves the chance to let these terrorists get what they wanted. They would take prisoners, valuable information could be extracted from them.

The debates within the National Assembly continued as the weeks passed on by. The democratic process taking it's course. The recent days had been interesting for the Labour Front, their goals aligning with the Samgolan Dawn in a unique display as the new month of March blossomed. The proposal of the Governmental Oversight Bill had overseen the outreach of the Labour Front to the Samgolan Dawn with an amendment proposal in hand. Following short but successful negotiation the two parties in a Bi-partisan effort set about rewriting the proposal as well as the addition of a second article. Quite satisfied with the results of their collaboration, the two parties submitted the renewed proposal to be received by the National Assembly at it's next gathering.

The Samgolan Technocratic Union raises nearly a quarter of a million dollars in Dabrado and Kamidye and takes on new donors in anticipation of the 1996 elections.

March 11th
The Tabongei Standoff ends when Samgolan S.F.T.4, Special Forces Team 4 is ordered to breach the area. With the element of surprise on their side, General Biya's report cited: ".. mixed results of the operation were linked to the request by the Bureau [of Defense] to take prisoners, which undoubtedly reduced the effectiveness of the operator's mission parameters. Although prisoners were taken, five of the six members of S.F.T.4 involved were killed or critically injured and 86 of 811 hostages were injured in the ensuing shoot out." Unemployment takes another strike when the Allied Constructive Cooperative hires another 7,000 workers to begin construction of the first "national highway" in the province of Nambé. [-0.91% Unemployment]

The Labour Front party, working alongside Samgola Dawn, amends the Governmental Oversight Bill by introducing Article II.

March 14th

The case of Stephen Adeagbo was a simple case of a bank employee attempting to sell customers’ identity to foreign entities. While it was a lucrative task, it was not legal, in fact it was a felony… felonies are bad. Thus, Stephen got sent to the District Courts.

Next on the list was Seye Egwero’s case which was about a law passed in the province of Dabrado requiring “hard to get Voter Registristration IDs,” thus, in order to vote he is challenging the law in court. This was a very valid case that was best suited for the Provincial Court to take care of. You go Seye, get your right to vote.

Recent discussion among the Liberal Democrats had lead to the creation of another health related bill, while many felt that such a bill would likely be to drastic others within the party simple nodded their head and agreed. Eventually Dominic Melembe stood and took the floor. “Greetings fellow members of the national assembly, I’m well aware of the drastic and sudden changes that our party has taken in regards to our nation’s health. Such changes have been controversial to some, but well received by many. It is because of the reception that the Freedom of Health Act received in its creation that I’m inclined to expand upon it with the creation of a new bill, one that will give the nation the opportunity to choose the type of health care they receive.”



Once his fellow MNAs where given the opportunity to read over the bill, Dominic began to speak once again. “I ask that my fellow MNAs recognize the necessity of this bill for the nation. Since my time as minister of health, I’ve come to recognize the tragedy that our healthcare industry has become. Patients turned away because of both arbitrary and authoritarian laws. Let us put aside our partisan squabbling and push through this legislation.”

Fear of economic downturn because of protectionist policies with their trade partner has stirred Charles Mpeya to action. Expected to leave to South Africa by March 20th, he has scheduled an official visit with President F. W. de Klerk on establishing a more agreeable trade agreement. The visit is expected to last upwards to two weeks, to give ample time for negotiations between the President of South Africa and Charles Mpeya to take place.
