@AdmrlStalfos19 I'm going to be speaking very subjectively here, as I'm not 100% what Satoshi thinks of your sheet. It's definitely very well-written and I like the rivalry you set up with Leopold, but there's two things about it that rub me a little differently.

The first and most simple one is that I don't really see a link between the decks your characters play and the type of people they are. The closest I get is having the one struggling with self-identity playing something that negates everything, but even that's a little bit of a stretch. What's the thought process behind the decks? Why does Kirari play dinosaurs, for example?

The second is... a lot more subjective and weird. I'd like Satoshi to give his own opinion on it, but to be blunt, your cast doesn't feel very... Yu-Gi-Oh? YGO is very traditionally shönen at heart, so it matches its cast to those tropes. You'll see some inclusivity, e.g. the overweight Tetsuo, some foreigners like O'Brien and so forth, but they're few and far between. You, though, have given almost your entire cast special 'quirks'. I'm personally not against characters like a crossdressing boy who identifies as male, an overweight woman who has to deal with it and a lesbian, but having all of them played super straight doesn't really seem in-line with the general over-the-top fantasy screamfest that shönen shows are known for.

The characters are well-written and I, personally, wouldn't reject you for them. Let's be clear on that. I do like most of your cast, they just seem weirdly out of place in a YGO setting. Just wanted to bring it up.

Oh wow, forgot this was still a thing for second there.

...

@Ammokkx Since you asked for it, I suppose I should enlighten you on what I was thinking for deck choices.

I originally wanted Jurracs for Kirari, figuring they'd best represent her competitive spirit due to the battle interactions that they're known for. Unfortunately I got sniped out of them to an extent (can't exactly have 2 Jurrac users running around), so I made alterations to the deck so that Lost World would be the primary focus of it. I was hoping Lost World shenanigans would play on her stubbornness and her desire to stand up to those that would look down on her, and sometimes you have to fight high ATK beatsticks with high ATK beatsticks.

With Juzaburo, I was trying to sell him off as the "grizzled veteran" type of guy; as such, I looked into how Kaiba was made as a character as I was trying to bring life into him, figuring Kaiba's character would make for a good basis. (I guess you can add Kaiba knock-off to my Scooby Gang of lesbian, extra thicc girl and cross-dresser with existential crisis now that I've said that, but eh; that's what I get for writing them in in the first place.) I originally had a vanilla beatdown deck in mind for Juzaburo to use, but since Kaiba was such a heavy inspiration on his design, I thought I'd might as well go the full nine yards and just give Juzaburo a Blue-Eyes deck. After all, the lower-statted support mons kinda symbolize his softer side to an extent. I'm surprised you haven't picked up on the link based on the blue eyes and the white hair alone, though I guess you don't take appearances into account... which I guess makes sense.

You do get points for seeing what I was trying to do for Yakumo... if only a little. Lockdown decks in general would've fit his style of play just fine; it was just a matter of finding one that seemed fairly generic. Hence SkillDrain.dek.

As for Wazuka, I could've probably developed her a bit more now that I think about it, but hindsight's 20/20. In any case, for her, I wanted an archtype whose mons were all cute and primarily female, since that would (hopefully) aid in the presentation of her facade of innocence... and Madolches were, high-key, the only archtype I could think of at the time. I realize this may scream afterthought, and there might be decks that probably suit her better, but I stand by my decision of giving Wazuka Madolches.

Finally, idea of giving Long Scraps was that they'd represent his humble beginnings of having to start his Harmonia journey from scratch, building his skills up from what would essentially be nothing. Junks could've worked just as well in regards to that symbolism now that I think about it. But I was primarily looking for a deck that'd be easy to learn and that would, theoretically at least, stand up to all the top decks that the world of Yugioh would have to offer if played well enough.

...

And there you have it; some insight on why I chose what I did for each char.

@AdmrlStalfos19 Aight, I'm currently waiting on Sat's opinion on stuff 'cause I can't accept or reject you. One thing though; Kaiba's deck isn't Blue-Eyes. Kaiba's deck is pure power plays, with cards such as Ring of Destruction and Crush Card to lock the opponent down while high ATK monsters such as Vampire Lord, Vorse Raider and Blade Knight beat the opponent down. He also has some defensive monsters such as Kaiser Glider, Giant Germ and Different Dimension Dragon to make it hard for the opponent to break through to his life.

Kaiba clones steadily grew to just sit on one boss monster over time, but I wanted to point out that 'Blue-Eyes' isn't exactly Kaiba in itself. His deck has a lot more nuance, Blue-Eyes is just the ace.

@AdmrlStalfos19

After days of trying to review your sheet, I knew something was bugging me and it finally hit me.
The way you described your characters. How you described your characters and how they behave or are treated, this is supposed to be like the show so your whole ‘making fun of people’s appearance’ thing isn't correct. In the show, nobody ever actually cares about appearance, the worst you get in the show is like “this guy looks strong” or “this guy looks weak”. I think Harmonia wouldn’t be very different, people would care more how you duel rather than how you look.

As for the Saiki character, it feels like she’s based almost entirely around being a lesbian. She doesn’t have much going for her outside of who she’s attracted to, making it hard to get a good grasp on her personality. I don’t think it should be as important as you’re making it, I’d rather you cut it down to only a single sentence and lay more of a focus on who she is outside of that one trait.

Another thing is that you’ve done a good job on character relationships, but it feels like they aren’t really flexible. The characters seem to be made to play off of each other more than anyone else and I’m not sure how well they’d get along with everyone else considering how close-knit and interwoven each history is. It might be better to break it down a little more and be more subtle and vague as to how each of them got along, rather than have each of them link into each other so tightly. (for example, Naoki having pins from Kou shows they get along well, but it isn’t directly stated. Or Ammo’s Emi and Keitaro having helped Masaru reach the top, but not going into detail. Or how Kaito only has two sentences on how he butts heads with Ren)

Also, I’m pretty iffy on the cross-dressing thing. There have been some examples of forced cross-dressing, but not really any willing crossdressing because of an identity crisis. I dunno, it feels kind of weird to have it

Since I realised about halfway through today that Armors were a way better fit for Keitaro than Psychic, that's now his deck. Also, because Armors are lacking a bit of punch, have the first custom card in the RP:

Gravitational Barrier
Type: Field Spell
Effect: When an Armor monster you control declares an attack on an opponent's monster, you can have the attacking monster gain 200 ATK for each face-up card on the field.

These will be located in the second post of the thread (excluding the 0th post)

Well, we're currently on three players. You, Deluge and Knight. However, we kind of want 4 to start at the very least. @AdmrlStalfos19 isn't replying to either me or Satoshi at the moment, though. I also know @The Irish Tree is working on a sheet, but they've told me they're busy with school. So we're basically waiting on either of them.

Sorry for the slow burn .m.

After suffering from over a week of no power and actually forgetting about this like the dunce I am after I had electricity again, I have returned thanks to Ammo reminding me.

Glad to know my sheet's alright, and that you guys saw where I was going with it. Let's get this rolling again!

@Satoshi Kyou Let me help you with that.

@ThePlumbum@Deluge@MidKnights What do you guys think of this? Should we start now, or wait for another person to show up so there's a little more variety in the cast? The first two or so posts are going to be pretty railroadey anyway and after that is a short sandbox segment to get everyone settled in, so starting a little ahead of ourselves shouldn't hurt too much. Still, it'd be better if we had another person to fill out a dorm so we're not quite so limited with our cast.

I'm interested in taking part in this; I've never taken part in a Yu-Gi-Oh RP before but I have wanted to for a while.

I wasn't expecting to have to make all five duelists for a dorm, nor create a consistent theme for all of them, but I'm still interested even if it's more work. Also it looks like Dragon Rulers are still banned, so there goes that deck idea.

I think I'll take a stab at the Water dorm; how does level-headedness and adaptability sound as a core theme?

@King Cosmos The duelists in the top 2-5 don't need to be as detailed as your main guy nor will they need as much focus. They're mainly there to give a bit of variety to the cast and make it so the PC's aren't the only people on the entire island.

You also don't really need to tell us the theme ahead of time, it's preferable you just write up a sheet and we notice ourselves what links them all together.

That's fair enough, I was mostly just throwing out ideas. Thought I would probably want to use the other 4 a bit if I took part in this, if only to be able to duel with more varied decks; I'm putting about the same amount of thought into all of my characters decks and it's honestly hard to decide which one I want to use as my 'main' deck.

I'm a little swamped with other stuff at the moment and I want to do a bit of play testing since I haven't touched this game in a while and there are a lot of cards I'm seeing I've never heard of, but I should get my templates up by Friday.
