An old hand at hunting at this point, it often shows outside of a fight. Despite standing at an imposing 6'8" and weighing in at 230lbs, he often slumps against the cane he has on him, and does not need in the slightest, even with the fact he can carry around his rather imposing weapon Bratach with no loss of agility. His silver hair has begun losing its luster, becoming a duller grey in nature, and beneath the mask he wears one of his eye sockets is empty. The other shares a crystal blue eye, long accustomed to being his only remaining ability to see, even if his other senses have heightened to compensate him for his loss of half his vision.
-Name-
Jerod Argenti
-Age-
58
-Species-
Human
-Aura Color-
Grey
-Semblance-
Weight of the World
Jerod's semblance revolves around manipulating the gravity of himself and other close by entities. Those with Auras can resist the effects rather easily, even with the long years of practice that the older Hunter has, meaning that the target either has to not have an Aura or accept the effects of the Semblance. While this could be as simple as reducing its effects, allowing him to jump higher or even invert it to soften impacts, his imagination is the limit. Walk up a wall, stand on the ceiling, send a Grimm plummeting through the floor of a building, and other examples could go on for quite some time. Of course, he has to be able to see what he wishes to apply his Semblance to, himself excluded, or otherwise be familiar enough with the object or person in question to be able to reliably alter their personal gravity. This can also be taxing on both himself and those under its effects, as altering the gravity of someone who has spent their entire lives under one constant tends to be jarring at best. Maintaining such an effect is also draining, and while he can maintain it longer than he ever could in his youth, keeping it up for too long is still a bad idea.
-Weapon-
BratachOriginally constructed at the earliest days of the Hunters, the massive smooth bored cannon was designed for sheer, unrepentant destruction at the cost of any semblance of flexibility or effectiveness outside of a short to mid range. Having dug the thing up during his youth, before becoming a Hunter, Jerod rebuilt the weapon into something more suitable to modern hunting of Grimm. Mainly, besides adding rifling to the barrel to fix the range problem, he replaced the rusted metal and half rotted wood with modern materials while maintaining its original aesthetic. In its restored form, the Bratach acts as the result of taking an anti material rifle to its logical extreme, requiring reloading after each shot and recoiling painfully, even with recoil dampeners inside the main framework of the rifle portion of the weapon.
When pressed into melee, the stock forms the hilt for a longsword, which is deceptively light compared to when it is sheathed and performing its role as a stock. In theory, someone could still fire the rifled cannon without the stock, but in most cases not only would accuracy suffer greatly, but would likely injure the person trying such a frankly stupid stunt. In regards to ammunition, the Bratach technically can use and has conventional rounds, though Jerod almost exclusively uses a modified version of the original Dust infused ammunition, namely altering the rounds to take advantage of the rifling, it was original designed to prototype. One last touch he personally added was the hilt of the longsword has a slot for a dust canister, the very same system that his son uses and, in fact, Jerod helped him figure out how the system worked and, in theory, how to construct his own version. As such, dust canisters can be loaded to coat the blade in dust and, from there, create a variety of effects, his personal favorite being fire dust for obvious reasons.
-Other Equipment-
Besides the pouches full of ammunition, Jerod has his cane that, while not at all necessary, is still something he has grown rather fond of. While he doesn't carry the full set, he has a set of tools meant for building and repairing the signature weapons of Hunters and Huntresses.
-History-
Jerod has a surprising lack of unique events in his past, having been the son of a scientist and Archeologist, the two commonly having worked together and ended up caring enough to sire a son. Though he would eagerly tag along with them, going on various digs and eventually finding an abandoned Hunter weapon, which he found alongside some notes on its purpose, though nothing else. It sparked a flame in him, one that would never die down despite his parents attempting to dissuade him otherwise. He would spend day and night restoring and upgrading the weapon over the span of years, learning the hard way such a complex prototype should have been well and truly beyond him. Yet he didn't let it slow him down, and once he was 18, he attended the Shade Academy to become a Hunter.
Jerod always would remember his time at Shade fondly, remarking on his team with a wistful smile and the general shenanigans that they tended to get themselves involved with. Though he certainly picked up his lack of formal style there, and found the same style of attire that he would wear up through his mid to late fifties, he also developed a rather precise, military approach to hunting Grimm. Mitigate risk, maximize reward, and all with as little input as possible. He learned that working alongside Faunus tended to actually be preferable to working alongside fellow humans, and he quickly learned that the racism instilled in him by his parents was not only wrong, but a serious problem in the world.
Graduating from Shade, Jerod would head out to attempt to prevent Grimm populations from ever growing large enough to attack fringe settlements, working alongside other like minded Hunters and supporting personnel to do just that. It would be at this point he would meet his wife, Lashiel, and was immediately struck with her poise. It helped that she laid him flat on his ass due to a misunderstanding on their first meeting, and they would eventually, though temporarily, retire to a larger city once it became known to them that Lashiel was pregnant with their firstborn, who they agreed to name Ansgar on the way to their city life, named after Lashiel's brother, who had died under unusual circumstances. He was 37 when Ansgar was born, and the next 18 years would be spent raising the boy, with the help of his wife.
While Ansgar's story is told elsewhere, Jerod did a lot to prepare him for a potentially hostile world. Teaching his son everything he knew about hand to hand fighting, the aging Hunter couldn't help but be proud when told of his son beating bullies senseless, though he vehemently disagreed with his son's choice to run with a gang of Faunus for awhile. He didn't hold him at arms length when Ansgar came to his senses though, forgiving him and making it a lesson learned. Once Ansgar was eighteen, Jerod had to depart on Hunter business once again, having done what he could to prepare his son for the future in the world on his own. With the breaking of the Calm, Jerod's wife also departed to help at field hospitals and the like, responding to Grimm attacks. Knowing that the remaining Hunter's were not enough, and hearing of the new Beacon academy, Jerod set off to help instruct and prepare a new generation of Hunters. He was, surprisingly, unaware that his son had also went there to follow in his footsteps.
-Personality-
Considering how his son acts on a regular basis, one has to wonder whether or not Jerod is his biological father or not. A reserved, polite individual, he has no problem holding a conversation while, at the same time, he won't just talk for talks sake. He is stern and stoic towards all but two people in the world, that being his beloved wife, for whom he would go to the ends of the world and further if need ebe, and his son though, while he is proud of him as much as any father would be, they don't always see eye to eye. Outside of these two, he retains the same calm front and even when in the thick of a fight with someone, will show them due respect so long as they don't cross one of his lines.
The first being racism, considering Jerod's wife and son are both raven Faunus, he will firmly and grimly put someone in their place if they prove to be a racist, regardless of whether they are a faunus racist towards humans or a human racist towards faunus. He is a firm believer in teaching someone how to protect themselves rather than protect them directly, citing an age old adage of 'Feed a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for the rest of his life.' Of course, he will still step in and put himself in harms way for someone who cannot protect themselves, but he will seek to rectify such things once its safe.
The second line is his family, whether that is hurting them, threatening them, or otherwise thinking that they could be used as leverage over Jerod. He reacts
extremely poorly to threats to his family, this being his only berserk button, and then it becomes clear where his son learned to fight as dirty as he does. There is nearly no limit, no boundary, when going after someone who threatened or hurt his family, though he does draw the line at innocent bystanders. He won't make it quick either, drawing out someone's punishment as an example to anyone else who might come after Jerod or his own. And considering how long he has been doing this, he can be extremely creative.
-Fighting Style-
Economy of motion and action, would be the best way to describe Jerod's approach to fighting these days. Finish a fight as quickly as possible, with as little expended energy as possible, and in regards to Grimm or those that cross his second line, anything goes. Whether that means ambushing a Grimm from a distance with a well placed shot with his rifle, or gutting it up close, he doesn't waste any more time or energy then is needed to finish a fight with the Grimm. Using long years of experience, he tends to know the tactics for taking on most Grimm that were encountered both before and after the Calm broke.
Much like his son, Jerod is even more dangerous than his son is in unarmed hand to hand, thanks to both his Semblance, oddly not shared with his son, and long years of experience and hard learning. While he taught his son a great deal, all he knew, Jerod has the experience and size to employ the techniques with far more brute force than his son, though he is hardly anywhere near as quick to employ dirty fighting tactics.
-Other-
Jerod is a self taught savant in regards to Hunter and Huntress weapons, quick to pick out their purpose and intent once observing them in use. If given time with them and his tools, he could readily
