sandWitchDoctor What Chu Be Cravin' ?

Member Seen 7 yrs ago

Hello, I’m new to roleplay. Reading through everything on this site isn’t particularly hard (navigation wise), but I see a lot of terms that don’t quite add up. MxM, FxF, the differences between casual and advanced, etc. While that certainly isn’t anyone’s fault but my own, I am still quite confused!

I’m a 20 year old troll who lives in the world, and I have a habit of writing. A lot. I have never done joint writing, unless you consider being high out of your mind while you write a story about a young dwarven archer named Gorm. Then again, that’s the best kind of joint writing right? English isn’t my first language, so I truly apologize if I mess something up. Not that there’s much to mess up right now, but still. Genre wise, I like a lot of fantasy. So much in fact, I want to try the complete opposite my first time roleplaying. Maybe something mundane, like adventures in highschool? I dunno.

Other than that, what up B?

Welcome! :>

You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. Role playing is writing at a partner or group in turns, you usually only using a character or two to interact with theirs. In one on one requests, people generally want romance/chemistry as an option regardless of how romance-focused the RP is, so they outline whether they want a male-female, male-male, or female-female couple as the focus (MxF, MxM, FxF respectively).

Then here on RPG we have different levels of writing. Free is loose and allows for single sentences or one liners. Casual writers usually wants at least a paragraph or two to respond to. And Advanced players want multiple paragraphs and generally higher level, complex stories. I'd recommend starting at a low casual-casual level for ya first RP or two.

I prefer group RPs, but one on ones are definitely an option, and they're split into different threads for ya convenience.

I hope that helps explain some of the basics ya asked about. Feel free to ask anything else and again, welcome to the guild! I think there are information dumps about the site, too, for new RPrs

I guess I have another question. For these interest checks, do I need to have a specific plot in mind to make one? Like... I really don't have one, I just want to try roleplay. shrug

@sandWitchDoctor If you don't really have one, it's fine to put a few basic ideas out to get help brainstorming. Like I havent had my one on one open in forever, but if you go to that thread from my profile, you'll see I've listed some basic ideas that I'd like to try with partners. You can do something similar to catch interest. I recommend going through interest checks that are already up, though, in case you find someone with similar interests that way.

I've been searching through other interest checks, but I've gotten to the point where I'm looking at 5 day old posts. I kind of want something consistent, nor do I really know the standards on considering a post dead. Like, I've been banned for necroposting on other sites, and that'd kinda suck if I did it here.

None of the scenarios or fandoms really tickled my fancy.

Usually for the 1x1 section you just pop a message on the thread or PM the original poster to find out if they're looking for more partners or not. The interest check threads themselves are not going to have a lot of activity.

Yeah, I'd definitely make your own then! Just outline genres you want to do, level of writing you expect, any limits on things you dont want in a RP, I'm sure someone will work with you to start a RP you'll like

Welcome! If you wanna roleplay with the guild's creepy shapeshifter you can find me in the free to casual sections or 1x1 (of any of the three things) The genres you'd see from me are horror, steampunk(there's a new combo for me to search for), fantasy, sci-fi, and romance. Sometimes I like to combine different genres I like

Often if you're looking for something specific and only want a single partner, it's best to make a post ^-^ Most people seem to respond to 1x1 interest checks, especially if you list a variety of ideas.

If you're looking for group RPs though, I'm surprised you haven't found something :o You can look through the interest or roleplay sections, and anything with "Apply" next to it means it should be accepting c: Casual is where you'll find the most stuff, so if you're desperate, I'd recommend there ;)

If you need anything lemme know! Or if you wanna hit me up with an idea :D
