Storm's End

Lord Paramount Darion Baratheon

The Amberly Incident- Starting in the year 332 AC and ending in the same year, the Amberly Incident(named after the seat of one of the main rebel lords) nearly threatened to throw the Stormlands into rebellion and end the rule of the Baratheons as Lords Paramount of the Stormlands.

While the base of the incident had started a year earlier with the then heir-apparent Darion Baratheon refusing rather rudely an offer of marriage from Lord Garrat Rogers himself, the true cause that set off the incident was when Darion Baratheon nearly beat to death the heir of house Rogers, Lord Prestan Rogers for throwing insults at House Baratheon and his own brother.

This incident served to unify some houses of the Stormlands against House Baratheon. Darion Baratheon then pleaded with the Crown and the heir of the Iron Throne to help stop this possible rebellion, however, neither the queen or her heir Rhaegon responded to his calls for aid. So, an angered Darion decided to call the bannermen still loyal to House Baratheon and to prepare for battle.

The two sides would meet north of Summerhall, the seat of the bastard prince Jon and would get ready to battle, however, just before the battle starts, prince Jon, who was convinced by Effrin Baratheon to help mediate the conflict, arrived on his dragon Rhaegal to do just that. Thankfully, since the rebel nobles thought that prince Jon had sided with House Baratheon, the situation was solved without any real loss for the Lord Paramount.

However, despite the fact that many of the other houses had been pacified by this, House Rogers still considers House Baratheon as their rival.

House Rogers- Despite the Amberly Incident having been settled, both the heads of House Baratheon and House Rogers still have a deep seated rivalry with one another. The refusal of a marriage offer before the incident certainly did not help the relations between the two noble houses.
House Tarth- Due to Darion's own mother Ayenna being part of House Tarth, the two houses have been and are very closely tied to one another.
House Seaworth- After leaving a daughter of the current lord pregnant, the relation between the two houses was about to worsen, however, when said lord came to ask for reparations, the lord acknowledged the baby as his and even promise to try and get the son to be legitimized by the king whenever possible, forging an alliance with House Seaworth as well.

The plans of the current members of House Baratheon are fairly simple, though known only by the two twins of the house. Upon the death of Queen Daenerys, the Stormlands will support the bastard Jon instead of the heir-apparent Rhaegon Targaryen, not only because of the closeness between the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and and the prince, but also because of honor. Darion and Effrin's grandfather had fought a war to depose the Mad King, accepting the rule of her and her bloodline would be akin to spitting in the face of his Grandfather.

A more secondary goal, more for Darion than for the Stormlands is to get his bastard son Lyonel legitimized, however, since nor the current queen, nor her heir have proven willing to do so, he has turned once again to the bastard Prince Jon to legitimize his son once he would ascend the Throne.

Born in 310 as the eldest of the two Baratheon twins and the acting Lord Paramount of the Stormlands in his ailing father’s name, though with no prospect of his father’s health improving, many consider the young Lord as Lord Paramount already.

Unlike his younger sibling, who does not show the qualities of a Baratheon, Darion is quite opposite in that regard, being everything that’s to be expected of a Baratheon and more. He is a very strong-willed person and somewhat stubborn when it comes to some things. Like his grandfather Robert Baratheon, Darion has the talent of drawing people to him, befriending people and making them loyal to him, even if they were an enemy the other day. As for his size, he is a very big man, easily reaching a height of 6’10” and towering above many men. It is thus that he earned his nickname as the “Storm Giant”.

Ever since he was born, Darion had lived his life to the fullest everyday, trying things that seemed interesting and if they bored him, then he would try again and again until he found something he enjoyed. Many people, including his own father encouraged this curious nature of his son, thinking that he would maybe find a hobby to enjoy besides leadership, something for what he was already being groomed for, despite already having shown quite the aptitude for it.

Among one of things he found that he had a calling for, was fighting. And it was no wonder that he often won in these mock duels considering his size, and his father, seeing that, hired a few trainers to refine his skills in combat and though he is slightly above average when it comes to skill, he counts more on his strength than his actual skill in combat. His second hobby, he truly found at the age of 14 as he laid with one of the various serving girls around Storm’s End and found that he enjoyed it quite a bit as it had the same pleasure one would feel from defeating a foe, though in this case, nobody would be really hurt. So, the young lord partook in both of his hobbies quite often, beating down squires and bedding young maids.

However, only a few months later, Darion had taken to love a woman different from all the others, he had taken Lyanna Seaworth, she was the daughter of Lord Devan Seaworth of the Rainwood, one of the high lords of the Stormlands and she was a shy young woman that had fallen in love with Darion and had given her maidenhood to him during a feast at Lord Devan’s holdfast. However only a few months later, Lord Devan came along with his daughter who was now pregnant with his child and demanded retribution.

Before his father said anything, Darion instantly acknowledged the child and invited the young Lyanna to stay at Storm’s End so that both she and Darion would be able to raise him properly and promised that he would try and get the child legitimized as soon as possible.

Only a year later, one of the serving maids of Storm's End, a woman with which Darion had also laid came to him with a little girl. Like the child of Lyanna, he acknowledged the little girl as his own child and brought the child to court to be raised by maesters and other educators and would soon prove to be as fierce and hot-headed as Darion was.

A few years later, despite him already having two bastard children, Lord Garret Rogers presented his daughter as a potential wife to the now 18 year old Darion Baratheon. However, the young lord refused Lord Garret quite rudely telling him that if he had wanted to marry his daughter, he would have been the one to propose to her. This was a grave insult to the Lord and though, he made sure to send a letter to apologize to both the father and the daughter, the damage had already been done, he had sown the seeds of discontent within the Stormlands against him.

Only days later, a small retinue of knights headed by the heir of Amberly, Lord Prestan Rogers arrived to demand a personal apology from Darion, not just a written one. However, they would find none there, as the stubborn heir of the Stormlands refused, and after a few more arguments, the young Prestan challenged Darion to a duel, a duel that he accepted.

The duel itself was brief as Darion easily overpowered the young lord, shattering his shield and drawing blood. In a fit of combat rage, Darion then challenged any of the knights that had come with the young Prestan to the same duel. Thankfully, while some of the knights were a bit more skilled in combat, Darion's strength was what allowed him to win all of the duels, though he would soon fall ill due to exhaustion soon after the duels themselves. Even with a victory, though, this only served to worsen the relations with house Rogers and further sow the seeds towards rebellion.

In the year of 332, Prestan Rogers, the son of Lord Garret Rogers had discovered Effrin laying with another young man during a banquet. And though Darion did not know what had happened between the two inside the room, Prestan had come out yelling obscenities at both his brother for his heinous crime and at the Baratheon family for all their sins against men and against the gods.

Darion, who was of a fairly short temper when it came to his family, assaulted Prestan and a brief fight started between the two, however, again, due to his strength, Darion beat Prestan unconscious and would have probably beaten him to death had his own and Prestan's father not stopped him. Lord Garret, seeing this demanded retribution for this by exiling both his children as a form of justice, however, he would find none as Edric banished both Garret and Prestan out of Storm’s End.

This move had great repercussions, as many of the noble houses of the Stormlands now banded under Lord Garret Rogers and threatened rebellion against the future Lord Paramount. A furious Darion, though somewhat pacified by his mother, had sent ravens to both the queen and Rhaegon to help settle this incident before it came to bloodshed, however no response came from either the queen or her heir, leaving the two Baratheon siblings to deal with the situation by force rather than diplomacy.

It took a month for the forces of both sides to gather. The battlefield was to be decided as the place between the seats of the two houses, close to Summerhall, the seat of the prince Jon Targaryen. While Darion was confident that he would prove to be victorious in the battle ahead, his brother did not seem to think so, or at least, he thought that this would be only the first rebellion and it would sow the seeds for yet more years of possible rebellion from the various strong-headed lords of the Stormlands.

In order to prevent the death of so many soldiers and nobles, Effrin was able to convince Prince Jon to mediate the two sides. So, just before the battle would start, all the great nobles on both sides met in the middle of the battlefield and awaited for Prince Jon to arrive. And when he arrived, he certainly made quite the scene as he arrived on top of his dragon Rhaegal, with his bronze and green scales shining in the daylight. Suddenly, everyone there seemed to be ready to negotiate, as neither side really wanted to try and fight a fully grown dragon on the battlefield, knowing that they would most likely end up burned like in the Field of Fire.

Though they were called negotiations, under perceived threat of dragonfire, all the rebel lords save the Rogers had conceded their requests for the Baratheons and once again swore fealty to him. Now, being alone against House Baratheon and most of the other houses of the Stormlands, Lord Garrat conceded as well and swore fealty to the Lord Paramount once again, though the rivalry between the two houses still brewed.

With that, the forging of a bond between the two twins and the prince. Effrin had taken a near instant liking to the young prince and who Effrin trusted, Darion was willing to trust as well. After a time of negotiations, the young prince even took the bastard son of Darion as his own squire, making the relationship between Darion and Jon, even closer than before and gaining the loyalty of the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands.

Prince Jon Targaryen- Darion is absolutely loyal to the young prince, not only due to helping in the solving of the Amberly incident, but also for taking both his brother in the kingsguard and taking his son page and as squire... and for other, more secretive reasons.

Effrin Baratheon- Darion loves his brother absolutely, even more than his own children and has sworn an oath to protect his brother and to kill those who would do him harm, and though he is not sure if his brother reciprocates the feeling, but if it were necessary, he would even die for him.

Lord Garrat Rogers- For refusing a marriage offer, humiliating his son in a duel and nearly killing said son, the lord of Amberly currently hates the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and though they have sworn fealty to him once more, they are waiting for the another occasion to take him and his brother down once more.

Prince Rhaegon Targaryen- Though the two have never met, Darion does not like the heir to the Iron Throne at all, both for not agreeing to settle the Amberly Incident and for his rather hostile opinion on bastards.

Beric Hightower- Darion has rarely talked with Beric, though from the little they did talk, the stormlord did admire the knight's honor and skill in combat, though his son might not, considering that the knight is one of his sons trainers.

The Eyrie.

Lord Artys Arryn, Lord of the Eyrie, Defender of the Vale, Warden of the East and Keeper of the Gates of the Moon.

The recent history of House Arryn can be said to begin with Lord Timett Arryn, father of the reigning Lord Artys. Timett was a war chief of the Burned Men, one of the mountain clans of the Vale operating out of the Mountains of the Moon. He was a relative of House Arryn through his mother, Janyce Waynwood, a fiercely strong and independent woman who was believed to have been abducted by the Burned Men. Janyce had actually run off with one of the Burned Men, with whom she had an illicit relationship, to avoid being married off to a lordling against her will. Timett was raised in the custom of the tribe and never told of his mother's ancestry, that he would not be burdened by it and have difficultly becoming accepted by his clansmen.

Timett's lineage became of importance when the young and sickly Robert Arryn, called 'Sweetrobin', passed away of his frailty towards the end of the year 300 AC. Timett became embroiled in a plot between his mother Janyce and Bronze Yohn Royce, a powerful vassal of House Arryn, to name Timett the Lord of the Eyrie ahead of Harrold Hardyng, to take over the Vale in support of Queen Daenarys. Timett was taken by his mother in secret to Runestone, the seat of House Royce, during the initial chaos that followed Robert's passing. There, he was introduced to and made to wed a young woman by the name of Sansa Stark, a lady of the North who had been living in secret with Petyr Baelish, the power behind the throne of both Robert Arryn and Harrold Hardyng. Sansa's betrayal of Petyr to join with Lord Royce had delayed Harrold's ascension; the 'Young Falcon', as he was known, had been meant to be wed to Sansa instead of Timett. Timett and Sansa's marriage occurred in the light of the Seven, a Faith to whom the two were also converted in the same ceremony. The other Vale lords in attendance at Runestone, among them the members of the so-called "Lord's Declarant" who had long opposed the machinations of Petyr Baelish, named Timett 'the Lord Timett Arryn', calling him the rightful Defender of the Vale and pledging to install him as Lord Paramount of the Vale of Arryn, under Queen Daenarys.

The ensuing civil war could have been an enormously bloody and prolonged affair, were it not for Timett's support from both the mountain clans and Queen Daenarys. The fierce warriors of the mountain tribes harried the lands of those houses loyal to Lord Harrold, their constant raids preventing them from amassing much of their potential strength and delaying their efforts to field an army large enough to march on Runestone. The Eyrie itself, a castle entirely impregnable to a conventional army, fell victim once again to the same weakness that had been its downfall in Aegon's Conquest: an aerial attack. The Queen and her dragons made short work of Lord Harrold and his retainers in the Eyrie, burning the would-be Defender of the Vale alive before a single major battle could be fought. Lord Petyr Baelish, the instigator of the Vale's troubles, was dealt with in the earliest days of the war, coming to Runestone shortly after Sansa's flight to attempt to plead his case and join Sansa and Timett's side in the conflict. Timett refused him, and instead gave his new wife justice for her fallen father: the removal of Petyr Baelish's head from his body was the war's first casualty. With Harrold and Petyr fallen, Queen Daenarys and King Aegon triumphant in the south and the loyalists of Lord Timett growing each day, those who had refused to call a mountain clansmen 'my lord' were quickly forced to bite their tongues and swear fealty to the new Lord of the Eyrie, whether they liked it or not.

Predictably, most of them didn't like it. Even those lords that had sided with Timett against Harrold and Petyr did not want an uneducated and uncooth mountain clansman as their overlord, whether he had joined the Faith of the Seven or not. Worse yet, Lord Timett made radical reforms in the Vale following his ascension, working alongside his wife Sansa to reorganize the hill tribes into petty lordships more akin to the better respected mountain clans of the North. The proud Andal lords of the Vale considered the affront a step too far, and within barely a year of his ascension, the Lord Timett was assassinated, his exact killer forever unknown. Thankfully, Timett and Sansa had shared a bed long enough to produce a single infant son: Artys Arryn, named after the legendary founder of House Arryn centuries ago. Sansa Stark would rule the Vale as regent in the young lord's stead, doing her best to keep the peace in her adopted kingdom and prevent the mountain lords and Vale lords from going to open war. Keenly trained in diplomacy and intrigue by the late Lord Baelish, Sansa proved a talented regent, and worked tirelessly to maintain the loyalty of the Andal houses, working in tandem with her stepmother Janyce, who was able to convince her own adopted people, the mountain clans, to assimilate to the feudal system of Westeros and prevent their falling back into the old ways.

When Lord Artys Arryn began to rule in his own name, at the young age of 14, he continued Sansa and Janyce's policies of reconciliation. The son and heir of a hated lord who divided his people, Lord Artys saw his destiny as being to unite the Vale as his namesake had done in ages past: but through diplomacy, rather than war. Artys became a seasoned diplomat, settling land disputes between the mountain lords and the Vale lords and even managing to arrange a few marriages between the two, helping to assimilate and to bond by blood the tribal societies of the Vale's fringes into mainstream politics and culture. Both the more barbaric practices of the mountain lords and the most discriminatory policies of the Vale lords were put an end to, and peace and understanding gradually came to rule the day. The divide between the Vale's two societies continues on to the present day, however, and tensions still exist between those most uppity of the Andal lords and those of the First Men most stuck in their old, war-like ways. Lord Artys, ever the pacifist, is weary of the potential for war to once against sunder the Seven Kingdoms, fearing that it might tear open old wounds in his native Vale that he has spent the whole of his adult life attempting to mend.

House Targaryen - House Arryn under Lord Artys has been careful to avoid becoming involved in the dispute between Rhaegon and Jon, cautioning peace and reconciliation between the two rival brothers. Having no blood ties to either claimant, House Arryn is set to be a neutral power in the coming war, unless the prospect of a tantalizing marriage and an assurance of the unity of the Vale can be given to the cautious Lord Artys to sway him from his pacifism.

House Stark - Lord Artys is the son of a lady of Winterfell, Lady Sansa, who was also the woman who personally raised him from the day of his birth until her unfortunate passing a mere two years ago. Lord Artys has nothing but positive opinions of the Starks, and seeks to emulate both their fair-handed dispensation of justice and the deftness with which they have managed to keep their culturally disparate kingdom in one piece.

House Melcolm - Loyal bannermen of Lord Artys, with whom House Arryn has forged a close alliance via the marriage of Artys' eldest daughter, Aemma, to the ruling lord of House Melcom, Eustace. In exchange for this generous match, Eustace's own eldest sister was married to the son and heir of a mountain lord: one of very few marriages yet arranged between the lords of the Vale and the newly ennobled petty lords of the mountains. Artys considers the pair of matches to be among his greatest successes as lord.

The kingdom's politics have been dominated by distrust and disdain between two solitudes since the last great war. The reigning lord seeks to put the divisions of the old days in the past, while his heir is aggravating them with calls for purity and the revocation of the rival peoples' powers and privileges. Meanwhile, another great war awaits on a rapidly approaching horizon, with the potential to further inflame old passions—or, maybe, to help assuage them.

Lord Artys is half Northman and the other half a descendant of the mountain tribes, and so is naturally prone to a gruff, dark appearance—which he takes care not to accentuate. His hair is dark black and he is prone to a thick beard, which he keeps closely shaved to avoid appearing too much like the unwashed barbarian from whom he is descended. His one decidedly Andal feature is his Arryn blue eyes, which keep a loose and inviting gaze. A somewhat neurotic man, Artys has a resting frown, but is capable of warm and even goofy smiles in the right company and circumstance. He stands at an average height, and is of a lithe and decidedly gentlemanly, rather than knightly, build.

Ser Osric Arryn, Son and Heir - Artys' ambitions to unite the Vale have long been the source of a sour relationship between him and his ambitious first-born son and heir, Osric. The heir to the Eyrie grew to resent the mountain clansmen as a young man, seeing them as the cause of the disunity that stole Artys' attention and prevented the boy's father from forming a close relationship with him. Artys ultimately blames himself for this—he does not see himself as a good father, and is ashamed to have failed to instill the same virtues in his first-born that were instilled in him at a young age by his mother.

Lady Gwayne Arryn (née Grafton), Wife - A fine woman, perfectly fine. Artys holds her no ill will. They have their differences in temperament, and so be it. She is, by all accounts, a capable mother, investing more time in her children than most noble ladies would. Her frequent hunting outings do phase the Lord of the Eyrie, though; he worries sometimes how his children, especially the younger ones, Olyva and Creighton, would deal with the demise of their dear, fearless mother. Still, the two do not fight at all publicly, and less often than most couples even in private. Artys and Gwayne both seem to accept the nature of their marriage, and both seem to respect their vows to one another. That is more than enough for Artys.

Lady Aemma Melcolm (née Arryn), Daughter - Proving herself as dutiful as she is beautiful, Artys was overjoyed (and somewhat relieved) when his daughter Aemma consented to be matched with the Lord Eustace Melcolm—even given the transactional nature of the marriage. Always a good daughter, Aemma had been well-behaved throughout her childhood, seeming to remain affectionate towards her father even despite his unending business. From what he has hard and seen of her, his eldest girl seems bright and sweet as ever, genuinely happy in her new life in the Melcolm seat of Old Anchor. If Artys is not sure where he went wrong with Osric, he is not sure where he went right with Aemma.

Hugor 'the Septon', Son - Hugor had always been quite close to Artys' mother and the boy's own grandmother, Sansa Stark. Even entering his teenage years, Hugor spent most of his time with her, constantly enthralled by his grandmother's stories and charm. For this reason, Lord Artys was not surprised when Hugor took Sansa's death very hard. Yet, he was not expecting what his second born son would do in response. Seeming to take inspiration from his namesake, Hugor threw himself into his worship, constantly reading the Seven Pointed Star and discussing matters of faith and clergy with the local septon. When the time came for Hugor to plead with his father for permission to join the faith as a septon, Artys felt it wrong to refuse him. At least, he supposes, mother shall have plenty of prayers made in her name.

Lady Olyva Arryn, Daughter - Half the joy and half the looks, is what the other children had said of Aemma Arryn's younger sister. Knowing her to be constantly living in the shadow of her elder counterpart, Artys did learn from his mistakes with his sons and make some effort to ensure Olyva did not find herself isolated and secluded, but his efforts bore limited success. Olyva seemed content, even happy, to be away from her coevals, and from most everyone, in fact. Quiet and with a morose way about her, Olyva is perhaps just as dutiful a young lady to her father's plans as Aemma, but with her the acquiescence seems to come entirely from apathy. She is without a match quite yet, Artys still trying to find the best strategic candidate for his remaining daughter's cold hand. He hopes that perhaps he can find a man who could make it warm.

Creighton Arryn, Son - Artys paid the most attention with Creighton. Upset with himself that he did not take enough personal care of his older children, he devoted more time than perhaps he should have to the young third born son, his administration even suffering sometimes as a result. Yet, where a lack of fatherly attention harmed his older children, Artys might have given a bit too much to young Creighton. Still childish, even at the adult age of 15, Creighton has what Artys identifies to be all the benchmarks of a boy confused. He pursues the sword and the pen and everything in between, all of it with middling success, and each attempt eagerly cheered on by Artys. In recent months, though, the boy has been growing more distant from Artys. Osric has been stealing him away, insisting her spend more time learning to ply the sword and even taking the boy as his quire. Artys has mostly accepted this, but he does still make a point of ensuring Creighton observes his business as lord often enough to appreciate the humanity of the mountain lords and the necessity of their welcoming into the Vale, lest Osric turn the boy towards prejudice and hate.

Like his father, the heir to the Eyrie has the natural appearance most common among the First Men of Westeros, with dark, thick hair and a generally gruff and quintessentially 'Northern' build. Whereas Osric's father simply keeps himself looking civilized, however, Osric actively attempts to hide his 'impure' ancestry. Most notably, his naturally black hair is dyed blond, the colour more common among the Andals with whom Osric identifies. His posture and gait, too, are meant to give off the opposite impression of a rowdy barbarian: every aspect of Ser Osric's manner exudes refinement and propriety, a far cry from the styles of the up-jumped petty lords of the mountains whom Osric reviles.

Osric was raised in the Eyrie, the first born son of the reigning lord. It has been impressed upon him all his life that he is the heir to the Vale, the man destined to succeed his father as the rightful lord of the Eyrie. His dynasty has an illustrious and powerful past dating back to ancient days, and he always understood himself to be the only latest in a long line of strong and able rulers. Many boys raised in such circumstances become enormously confident of themselves, perhaps even arrogant, the stories of their ancestors and their supremacy over the common folk ensuring them of their ability to succeed in life. Osric's perspective could not be any more different.

Though Osric exudes an aura of strength and of smug confidence, this is largely a lie. In truth, he is enormously insecure, intimidated by the height of his office—he finds the stories of the ancient Arryn warrior-kings of old more foreboding than encouraging, an impossible standard which he shall be measured against, rather than a reassuring symbol of determination. The two sides would meet north of Summerhall, the seat of the bastard prince Jon and would get ready to battle, however, just before the battle starts, prince Jon, who was convinced by Effrin Baratheon to help mediate the conflict, arrived on his dragon Rhaegal to do just that. Thankfully, since the rebel nobles thought that prince Jon had sided with House Baratheon, the situation was solved without any real loss for the Lord Paramount. This part reads a little iffy, particularly the first sentence, but I get what you mean. So far, so good.

However, despite the fact that many of the other houses had been pacified by this, House Rogers still considers House Baratheon as their rival.

House Rogers- Despite the Amberly Incident having been settled, both the heads of House Baratheon and House Rogers still have a deep seated rivalry with one another. The refusal of a marriage offer before the incident certainly did not help the relations between the two noble houses.
House Tarth- Due to Darion's own mother Ayenna being part of House Tarth, the two houses have been and are very closely tied to one another.
House Seaworth- After leaving a daughter of the current lord pregnant, the relation between the two houses was about to worsen, however, when said lord came to ask for reparations, the lord acknowledged the baby as his and even promise to try and get the son to be legitimized by the king whenever possible, forging an alliance with House Seaworth as well.

The plans of the current members of House Baratheon are fairly simple, though known only by the two twins of the house. Upon the death of Queen Daenerys, the Stormlands will support the bastard Jon instead of the heir-apparent Rhaegon Targaryen, not only because of the closeness between the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and and the prince, but also because of honor. Darion and Effrin's grandfather had fought a war to depose the Mad King, accepting the rule of her and her bloodline would be akin to spitting in the face of his Grandfather.

A more secondary goal, more for Darion than for the Stormlands is to get his bastard son Lyonel legitimized, however, since nor the current queen, nor her heir have proven willing to do so, he has turned once again to the bastard Prince Jon to legitimize his son once he would ascend the Throne.

Born in 310 as the eldest of the two Baratheon twins and the acting Lord Paramount of the Stormlands in his ailing father’s name, though with no prospect of his father’s health improving, many consider the young Lord as Lord Paramount already.

Unlike his younger sibling, who does not show the qualities of a Baratheon, Darion is quite opposite in that regard, being everything that’s to be expected of a Baratheon and more. He is a very strong-willed person and somewhat stubborn when it comes to some things. Like his grandfather Robert Baratheon, Darion has the talent of drawing people to him, befriending people and making them loyal to him, even if they were an enemy the other day. As for his size, he is a very big man, easily reaching a height of 6’10” reeeand towering above many men. It is thus that he earned his nickname as the “Storm Giant”.

Ever since he was born, Darion had lived his life to the fullest everyday, trying things that seemed interesting and if they bored him, then he would try again and again until he found something he enjoyed. Many people, including his own father encouraged this curious nature of his son, thinking that he would maybe find a hobby to enjoy besides leadership, something for what he was already being groomed for, despite already having shown quite the aptitude for it.

Among one of things he found that he had a calling for, was fighting. And it was no wonder that he often won in these mock duels considering his size, and his father, seeing that, hired a few trainers to refine his skills in combat and though he is slightly above average when it comes to skill, he counts more on his strength than his actual skill in combat. His second hobby, he truly found at the age of 14 as he laid with one of the various serving girls around Storm’s End and found that he enjoyed it quite a bit as it had the same pleasure one would feel from defeating a foe, though in this case, nobody would be really hurt. So, the young lord partook in both of his hobbies quite often, beating down squires and bedding young maids.

However, only a few months later, Darion had taken to love a woman different from all the others, he had taken Lyanna Seaworth, she was the daughter of Lord Devan Seaworth of the Rainwood, one of the high lords of the Stormlands and she was a shy young woman that had fallen in love with Darion and had given her maidenhood to him during a feast at Lord Devan’s holdfast. However only a few months later, Lord Devan came along with his daughter who was now pregnant with his child and demanded retribution.

Before his father said anything, Darion instantly acknowledged the child and invited the young Lyanna to stay at Storm’s End so that both she and Darion would be able to raise him properly and promised that he would try and get the child legitimized as soon as possible."Hey no prob I'll ask the king neither of us has met to legitimize this bastard and give you no marriage if you keep your daughter here so I can keep banging her without having to leave Storm's End" is an offer no lord would take. "Retribution", in this case, is a marriage.

Only a year later, one of the serving maids of Storm's End, a woman with which Darion had also laid came to him with a little girl. Like the child of Lyanna, he acknowledged the little girl as his own child and brought the child to court to be raised by maesters and other educators and would soon prove to be as fierce and hot-headed as Darion was.
Storm's End now has a teenage lordling who has brought in two bastards, one of which is "fierce and hot-headed". This should both
A: Significantly reduce the marriageability of the future Lord Baratheon
B: Be included in "Why a rebellion was possible"

A few years later, despite him already having two bastard children, Lord Garret Rogers presented his daughter as a potential wife to the now 18 year old Darion Baratheon. However, the young lord refused Lord Garret quite rudely telling him that if he had wanted to marry his daughter, he would have been the one to propose to her. A marriage offer from a father would not be unusual. I get that this furthers "Darion was rude this single time" but it doesn't really make sense.This was a grave insult to the Lord and though, he made sure to send a letter to apologize to both the father and the daughter, the damage had already been done, he had sown the seeds of discontent within the Stormlands against him."Darion sends a letter of apology to continue to be virtually without flaw, though Lord Rogers had already become much more angry than the lords whose teenage daughters Darion had impregnated and never married." is kind of a weird way for this rebellion to start. It sounds like you want Darion to be an infamous womanizer without giving him any negative traits or real-world repercussions to his actions.

Only days later, a small retinue of knights headed by the heir of Amberly, Lord Prestan Rogers arrived to demand a personal apology from Darion, not just a written one. However, they would find none there, as the stubborn heir of the Stormlands refused, and after a few more arguments, the young Prestan challenged Darion to a duel, a duel that he accepted.The beginning of the rebellion's reasoning takes another tumble here. The letter wasn't enough, he wants an apology face to face, but this is now too much for Darion? :thinking:

The duel itself was brief as Darion easily overpowered the young lord, shattering his shield and drawing blood. In a fit of combat rage, Darion then challenged any of the knights that had come with the young Prestan to the same duel. Thankfully, while some of the knights were a bit more skilled in combat, Darion's strength was what allowed him to win all of the duels, though he would soon fall ill due to exhaustionwhat soon after the duels themselves. Even with a victory, though, this only served to worsen the relations with house Rogers and further sow the seeds towards rebellion.This lord shows up and Darion doesn't apologize, whoops his ass, and then whoops all his knight's asses. Darion has so far sired two bastards and been attacked by a force of knights, and the only bad thing that has happened to him is that he got sick once, after the fight?

In the year of 332, Prestan Rogers, the son of Lord Garret Rogers had discovered Effrin laying with another young man during a banquet. And though Darion did not know what had happened between the two inside the room, Prestan had come out yelling obscenities at both his brother for his heinous crime and at the Baratheon family for all their sins against men and against the gods.If Nebulous quits, I will either help you rewrite this part or play a gay Baratheon. Time can only tell.

Darion, who was of a fairly short temper when it came to his family, assaulted Prestan and a brief fight started between the two, however, again, due to his strength, Darion beat Prestan unconscious and would have probably beaten him to death had his own and Prestan's father not stopped him. Lord Garret, seeing this demanded retribution for this by exiling both his children as a form of justice, however, he would find none as Edric banished both Garret and Prestan out of Storm’s End.Lord Garret's response to seeing his son nearly beaten to death is to exile him and his other son?

This move had great repercussions, as many of the noble houses of the Stormlands now banded under Lord Garret Rogers and threatened rebellion against the future Lord Paramount.Which ones? A furious Darion, though somewhat pacified by his mother, had sent ravens to both the queen and Rhaegon to help settle this incident before it came to bloodshed, however no response came from either the queen or her heir, leaving the two Baratheon siblings to deal with the situation by force rather than diplomacy.

It took a month for the forces of both sides to gather. The battlefield was to be decided as the place between the seats of the two houses, close to Summerhall, the seat of the prince Jon Targaryen. While Darion was confident that he would prove to be victorious in the battle ahead, his brother did not seem to think so, or at least, he thought that this would be only the first rebellion and it would sow the seeds for yet more years of possible rebellion from the various strong-headed lords of the Stormlands.Also, this usurper has presumably told everyone Effrin is gay.

In order to prevent the death of so many soldiers and nobles, Effrin was able to convince Prince Jon to mediate the two sides. So, just before the battle would start, all the great nobles on both sides met in the middle of the battlefield and awaited for Prince Jon to arrive. And when he arrived, he certainly made quite the scene as he arrived on top of his dragon Rhaegal, with his bronze and green scales shining in the daylight. Suddenly, everyone there seemed to be ready to negotiate, as neither side really wanted to try and fight a fully grown dragon on the battlefield, knowing that they would most likely end up burned like in the Field of Fire.This part reads a little iffy, but once again, I get what you mean. The tone is a little off here.

Though they were called negotiations, under perceived threat of dragonfire, all the rebel lords save the Rogers had conceded their requests for the Baratheons and once again swore fealty to him. Now, being alone against House Baratheon and most of the other houses of the Stormlands, Lord Garraet conceded as well and swore fealty to the Lord Paramount once again, though the rivalry between the two houses still brewed.

With that, the forging of a bond between the two twins and the prince. Effrin had taken a near instant liking to the young prince and who Effrin trusted, Darion was willing to trust as well. After a time of negotiations, the young prince even took the bastard son of Darion as his own squire, making the relationship between Darion and Jon, even closer than before and gaining the loyalty of the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands.

Prince Jon Targaryen- Darion is absolutely loyal to the young prince, not only due to helping in the solving of the Amberly incident, but also for taking both his brother in the kingsguard and taking his son page and as squire... and for other, more secretive reasons.

Effrin Baratheon- Darion loves his brother absolutely, even more than his own children and has sworn an oath to protect his brother and to kill those who would do him harm, What?and though he is not sure if his brother reciprocates the feeling, but if it were necessary, he would even die for him.

Lord Garraet Rogers- For refusing a marriage offer, humiliating his son in a duel and nearly killing said son, the lord of Amberly currently hates the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and though they have sworn fealty to him once more, they are waiting for the another occasion to take him and his brother down once more.

Prince Rhaegon Targaryen- Though the two have never met, Darion does not like the heir to the Iron Throne at all, both for not agreeing to settle the Amberly Incident and for his rather hostile opinion on bastards.

Beric Hightower- Darion has rarely talked with Beric, though from the little they did talk, the stormlord did admire the knight's honor and skill in combat, though his son might not, considering that the knight is one of his sons trainers.

All in all, the main changes I would like to be made before your take on the Baratheons is accepted is for Darion to be more fleshed out, having some negativity and facing negative consequences for his actions, and for the beginning of the rebellion to be more cohesive.

Driftmark

Regent of Driftmark, Lady of the Tides and Mistress of Driftmark, Lady Valaena Velaryon

House Velaryon has been relatively quiet. They fought for their liege during the rebellion, and reluctantly fought for Stannis when the Targaryen's were forced out of power. Then when the Targaryen's were restored in King's Landing, they returned their support back to the family they had supported for years, except they were a dying house. The family was reduced to one legitimate son, and his bastard uncle who disappeared when Cersei fell out of power. Everyone feared the worst when the last remaining Velaryon married and didn't have a heir for the 10 years he was with his wife. Then, at the age of 49, his Lady Wife died, and he remarried a 3rd daughter of 2nd son of the House Celtigar, who had just come of age. And within the year she had produced a male heir. Then, in the next year he passed in a fit of sickness, naming his Lady Wife regent until their son came of age. The 17 year old girl became the matriarch of one of the oldest houses in Westeros, and her 1 year old son, Lord of the Tides. 2 months after his passing, she learned she was pregnant with another child, this time a girl who she gave birth to seven months after the death of her husband.

House Targaryen - House Velaryon is a vassel house to House Targaryen of Dragonstone, and she supplies much of the royal fleet.
House Celtigar - Her family supports a lot of her financial endeavors in exchange for some of her fleet.

House Velaryon is a dying house who was almost wiped off the face of the world because of the various wars, and the current Velaryon matriarch wishes for nothing more than peace until she can stabilize the island.

However House Velaryon is also a house that has almost as much Targaryen blood as the Targaryen's themselves and they are loyal to blood. If another civil war were to rake the country, House Velaryon would support the Targaryen with the most claim to the throne, Prince Rhaegon.

Valaena stands just a hair taller than most of the horses in her stables, which a confident horsewomen it makes her not, with a slender build. She carries most of the trademark Valyrian features, silver hair, pale skin, with a notable exception of purple eyes as her mother's mother was from the Riverlands, and gave her the trait of Tully blue eyes.

Valaena was not expected to be much. While she was beautiful as a child, she was from a large family who had few connections anymore. As so, while she was raised to be the perfect southern lady, she was also given much more freedoms than the average highborn lady, she wasn't made to entertain like her cousins, and she didn't have too many marriage proposals like her elder sisters. She spent most of her time in the library, and became a very well-read young woman. She had entertained the idea of becoming a Septa before news of Monterys Velaryon's wife passed. Before she knew it, bargins were being made and she was becoming the newest Lady of the Tides. In truth, she had quite a good relationship with Monterys, they were both studious people by nature and they became quick friends, and she found no hardship bearing his child. When he passed she mourned him like she would a friend. On his death bed, he named her regent of Driftmark until their son came of age, something no one contested as the Velaryon house was a dying house and she was as loyal as most.

Valaena, as a result of her more sheltered upbringing, was not the most cut throat noble, but she is a very shrewd business woman.

In the past eight years since her husband's death she had doubled their fleet and while they are no where near the numbers they used to have, she is determined to revive Driftmark to it's former glory. In fact, she has also started to rebuild Spicetown, as their best port town had remained a charred blight as a relic, which Valaena thought was absolutely ridiculous.

Valaena also has the reputation of being called a Mother of Bastards, as she started taking in first the Celtigar bastards that couldn't stay on Claw Isle for one reason or another, and then other bastard's started to make their way to the island of Driftmark, especially if they wanted to escape the notice of other houses. Valaena takes them in, the older ones she finds work for the younger she takes care of and gives them more of an education than they could of hoped for otherwise, and helping them find their way in the world once they were older.

Prince Rhaegon Targaryen - House Velaryon is a vassel house to House Targaryen of Dragonstone, and as such Valaena does come into contact with the Prince, or at least the Prince's envoy's from time to time.
