so... is everyone attending the academy? Or do we all live in town? Do we live in town and attend the academy? Do we all know each other, or are we new?
I'm kind of lost in the "what age is my character to be / look like" situation...
Oh and... Discord = fine, as long as it doesn't replace the storyline
@Dutchess Sarah From what I understand this is massive sandbox RP so we can start however we like and do whatever we like as long as the things we do are not conflicting with the mechanics or the lore of the RP itself. For example I won't even be starting in Nowhere, I will be sent there to investigate nearby murders of a rather gruesome nature. So I will essentially be new to town. Your not required to go to the academy, you go if you want to. Your story is pretty much whatever you make it.

Basically like @Takida Inigo said. It is sandbox. I’m just providing a world. I will also be throwing in some plot starters here and there but it’s up to you if your character joins in or not.
I’ve made a Discord. Tell me if the link works or not. discord.gg/m932mYq
Occupation: Student at Gringore Academy Works at Darling Boutique
Race: Merrow
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Dark Green
Height and Build: 5'4", Average/On the thin side
Other Appearance: When Naida in salt water, her tail is similar to that of a vein-tailed betta fish. It's a dark green color that glints in the sun along with her silver skin. However, she is rarely in this from to prevent anyone accidentally seeing her. When in human form, Naida's hair is dyed brown to make her look more mundane, but her real hair is a silver similar to her skin in water. Naida usually likes to wear cute dresses and skirts. This is partially why she works at the Darling Boutique. She love the way it gives her legs room to breathe. However, when it gets cold, you will never not see her in a sweater of some type. She'd wear large sweaters and sweat pants all the time if she didn't go outside. She also prefers more cute clothing than fashion forward, it fuels her slightly shameful fantasy of feeling like a princess.
History/bio: The first thing Naida remembers is pain. She remembers being constantly hungry and sore. She remembers dark rooms and scary humans. What she doesn't remember are her parents nor the feeling of being in salt water and having a tail. Naida didn't have a sense of time or what life was supposed to be like. All she did was sit in a tiny room, and weave Gloss. Then after awhile of weaving Gloss, they would take her out and do all sort of things to get her to cry. They would beat her, electrocute her, berate her, anything they could. It wasn't hard given that she cried pretty easy, but even after crying until she had more tears, they would try to milk more out of her. It wasn't a good life, but it was the only one she knew. However, one day, her daily life was changed. A comforting hand was reached out to her and suddenly her life was filled with light. Nadia doesn't remember much of what happened since there was so much going on, but she was lead through the building where multiple shouts and lots of struggling took place. She eventually found herself in a large van with other people she assumed to be like her.
In an effort to keep Naida safe, she was taken to Nowhere. It was secluded, had a high concentration of supernatural beings, and there was someone willing to take care of her. When Naida met Nala, Naida was a nervous wreck. She wouldn't talk and was wary to trust. Naida was first drawn towards Kallista. They were similar of age and far from the mainly male adults who had tortured her before. The two grew close before Naida finally let Nala have a chance. Nala slowly taught Naida the ways of the world and gained her trust. Eventually, Naida gave herself her name with the help of Nala because of it's connection to water. Plus she thought it sounded pretty. The Merrow was truly fascinated with the outside world, particularly with nature. Something inside her called her to be outside in nature and specifically water. Finding out about her own abilities and her kind's value was a huge shock to her as well.
Naida felt the need to catch up with the kids her age in knowledge and eventually surpassed them. Because of this, she became an avid reader. Romantic novels and fantasy are her favorite genre. Nadia is a hopeless romantic and loves daydreaming and reading. Even though it's unrealistic, she loves the idea of being swept off her feet by some prince charming. Now Naida is enrolled in Gringore Academy along with Kallista. When she enrolled, she used the name Nadia instead of Naida since it sounded more normal and she had to keep her identity secret. She also began to dye her hair brown and if asked about her race, she either tries to not say anything or just say that she's a Fey. Both her and Kallista live in the dorms at Gringore. It's a fairly safe space for the two and Nala sees them frequently. The two adopted sisters visit Nala in her apartment frequently to chat and eat some nice food. Naida does lots of chores around the house for Nala to thank her for her kindness in bringing her in and treating her so nicely. Naida also initially took up a job to help Nala, but she refused because she didn't need the money. So now, Naida uses the money to save up and buy gifts for Nala and Kallista. Naida is constantly attached to Kallista and is very shy at the academy. She has trouble talking to others without getting nervous. She especially has troubles talking to authority figures such as professors. If any of them say anything that even hints at being mean, she begins to go misty eyed. She doesn't cry in order to keep her secret, but has occasionally gotten in trouble for running away from a professor.
Nicknames/Alias/AKA: Brawling Drunkard (not everyone can have a flattering and cool nickname I guess)
Age: 36
Gender: Male
DOB: 1986, exact date unknown
Occupation: Jobless, chases after wanted criminals when broke.
Race: Human Hunter (though completely untrained and ignorant of his race, thus unable to use his full powers)
Hair Color: Dark blond with a reddish beard
Eye Color: Light brown
Height and Build: 5'9 ft with a muscular build, to the point of being considered a little bit bulky.
Other Appearance: He is a heavy smoker and drinker. Has a scar on his left palm from when he once tried to stop someone hitting him with a broken bottle. He has a deep and bass voice, that scares little children.
History: Unknown to him, even to this day, Jack is a descendant of a long line of Human Hunter elites. Their proficiency in hunting down supernatural beings, led to some of the most sinister residents of Nowhere to unite their powers against this common threat. In fear of their, at the time, newborn child's life being in danger because of their enemies' plot, they left their child to the other side of Nowhere, the tranquil city of Erewhon.
Jack was found by the Greelies. John Greely and his wife, Helena could not have a child on their own and were happy to have a baby among them, eventually formally managing to adopt the child and give him the name Jack. However, soon, miss Greely suddenly died and Jack realized he saw strange things like bird people, fairy like beings and many other paranormal beings, which everyone dismissed as "a child's vivid imagination."
Not having memories of his mother, due to his very young age, Jack spent his later childhood with his now depressed father, helping him with the bar, since he didn't want to socialize with kids that though he was crazy for seeing "ghosts and aliens". Surrounded by the patrons of the pub, he was quick to develop some bad habits as he grew up, like smoking, drinking, gambling and fighting, especially with the less sober patrons of the pub. This led to his fair share of troubles with law enforcement.
While learning that not talking about the strange things he saw was beneficial, he wanted to make sure he was not crazy, so he followed some fey and was eventually led to Nowhere. After spending some tine there to confirm that everything he saw was real, he returned to Erewhon, not interested in learning more about the Nowhere beings and culture. His returns to Nowhere usually involve him to go after a wanted criminal, an activity he started to get money from time to time. His natural knack for fighting was able to provide him with some good income, although his income is many times reduced due to the collateral damage caused by his reckless attitude, which causes trouble to his acquaintance/having-a-hard-time-keeping-him-out-of-jail friend and chief of the detectives of the Nowhere Police Department, Terrence Archeletta.
Despite his short temper, Jack is not a bad character, who cares about the well being of his old man. He mqy be hard to approach, but with enough patience he can turn out to be a valuable friend or acquaintace.
Family/Relationships: John Greely (adoptive father), Helena Greely (adoptive mother, deceased), Terrence Archeletta (weird kind of friendship due to Jack always causing trouble and Terrence being a police officer)
I’m pretty sure you all already know this, but just to make sure. Erehwon is the name of the mundane human town. Nowhere is the same exact town, but the name used by the supernatural population. They are the same place. So it’s the same as the worlds/places in the TV shows and movies like: Lost Girl, Grimm, Buffy the vampire slayer, the librarians, Blood Ties, The magicians, supernatural, shadowhunters, being human, Harry Potter, bitten, hemlock grove, Warehouse 13, moonlight, the originals, teen wolf, and charmed.
The supernatural and mundane humans live side by side. Some buildings like gringore are magically spelled to trick humans or scare them away. Some of the stores and such in town are owned by a supernatural who may or may not be running a second business only known/offered to supernaturals. For instance the town library. Another example might be a seemingly mundane jewelry store, but they also sell charms and magical stones to supernatural. Does everyone understand?
Oh, and would you look at this! I found this lovely CS just sitting here:
Appearance:
Full Name: Dimitri Calazans
Nicknames/Alias/AKA: Dee
Age: 25
Gender: Male
DOB: Hatched beneath the Burrower's Moon (Aquarius), 1993
Occupation: In Between Jobs
Race: Arachne
Hair Color: Brown
Eye Color: Blue
Height and Build: Five feet tall, lean, and muscular.
Other Appearance: His true form has four smaller, completely pitch-black eyes forming a semicircle above his main pair of eyes (which appear larger, and also are fully black). He has very large chelicerae, that extend down to his chest. He is covered with a reddish psuedo-exoskeleton covered with small dark hairs. And he has a small, tail-like abdomen hanging down behind his legs, as well as two extra pairs of arms (features which he keeps hidden from those who can see through glamours by often wearing a long coat).
(Note to GM: I thought that a full exoskeleton brought up to humanoid scale would be far too OP. I hope that the liberties I have taken with his true form are acceptable. If not, just let me know and I will change it. But I want you to know that I have no intentions of trying to exploit the multiple pairs of arms thing, it just seemed too appropriate to the race for me to exclude it. Also, the eye pattern, reddish coloring, and large chelicerae are based on the Dysderidae family of spiders.)
History:
3rd day of the Jumper's Moon, 2018
I stayed with my mother, and sisters when dad first left us. My siblings and I were five years old at the time. He said he had to go make certain we all remained safe. I said I hated him, and that I hoped he never came back. I was lying to us both, and lucky for me he knew it.
Mom was a traditionalist. Superstitious, and distrustful of other species. She didn't hate humans per se, but she wouldn't have understood how to be friendly with them either. I guess after a few thousand years you get set in your ways. I learned a lot from her though. She taught us all the old lore she knew. She taught us how to survive. And she encouraged my sister's to look after me, the way a human parent might encourage their male spawn to look after their female siblings.
Then when we were almost 14, dad showed up again. He asked us if we wanted to come live among the humans with him since it was almost time for us to go out, and lead our own lives, anyway. Mom encouraged us. She said she never got this chance, and with the world changing these days, it could aid our survival. Circe, and I went. Mara, and Vesta stayed behind.
And for the rest of our legally underage lives, Circe, and I lived with our dad, Thea, his human wife, and Abigail, her daughter from a previous marriage. We both found the humans completely weird at first. And hiding what we were was just Exhausting. But we got used to it all within the first year and a half. Even Dad never shared his true nature with them. And as far as they knew, he worked for a government contracted security firm.
Dad told us that this is how vampires, and several other species live, and thrive. And that He learned about it as a Guardian. And that being a Guardian is how he met mom. We got some crazy stories when Thea and Abigail weren't around. I thought it was cool. But Circe fell in love with the idea. Our girls always love to be where the action is, I guess.
She was training in Nowhere, studying to be a Guardian, when dad disappeared for real. I think she got somebody who was training her at the Gringore Auxiliaries to give up some sensitive information, because she stopped freaking out disturbingly quickly. Like someone had just hit a switch. Bam! Calm and deadly mode: on.
I was coming down there to get her for a trip to see mom, and find out if she knew anything about it when I got a call from her. She told me mom couldn't help us, but she had a lead. But she said I had to stay in town with Thea, and Abigail to make certain they remained safe while she was gone. I said I loved her, and that I hoped she came back with him soon. I wasn't lying this time, and luckily for us both, she knew it.

So to everyone. If you haven’t already checked out the discord, you should. Also thanks to @Takida Inigo and his lovely helpers, we have a Wiki in the works.
Alright, I finally finished this lol. I want to add more backstory about her parents and the other people mentioned in the sheet but for now, here she is :D
Full Name: Kalista
Nicknames/Alias/AKA: Kayley Sherwood
Age: 22
Gender: Female
DOB: December 6th, 1995 (It’s unknown the exact date but she claims this as her birthday)
Occupation: Student at Gringore Academy
Race: Unicorn (Is thought to be a Maagia with magic immunity)
Hair Color: White (Dyed light brown)
Eye Color: Light Blue
Height and Build: 5’9”, toned build
Other Appearance:
Hidden far in the depths of the Seelie court lived a few of the last remaining Unicorns in existence. Asteria and Charon, well known among the supernatural community for their past endeavors, had decided to settle down after the birth of their first and only child, Kalista. Here, Kalista was able to live blissfully in peace, away from the dangers of Hunters and Humans. She could wake up every morning without the fear her parents had held growing up. The family lived happily for the first thirteen years of her life. Every night, Asteria and Charon would tell Kalista of their past adventures, under the magical tree, Dodona. She could still remember the leaves rustling against the wind, as if it were whispering to her. Both of her parents believed Dodona to bring good fortune, so they took residence there. They would often explore the area, always making sure to stay within 10 miles of the tree. Kalista’s parents taught her how to hone her magical abilities, to transform into her human form, and most importantly, how to enjoy life. She was incredibly close with her parents and loved them dearly. She keeps these memories close and often dreams of the times she lived within the Fae realm.
Shortly after Kalista had turned thirteen, Asteria and Charon had received news from an old friend. A castor, Yana, was nearing her end and wished to see them one last time. Yana had been one of the very few present at the birth of Kalista and was especially close with Asteria. They knew the risks of entering the human world. They hired two Guardians to escort the family to Yana’s residence. A powerful Ignis Witch, Stefan, also an old friend of Kalista’s family had willingly volunteered to help them. An Irish shifter, Conor, who had come in place of the family's close friend, Valon. Conor had trained under Valon, a powerful, Mezmer Guardian, and due to Valon's inability to leave Rome, the young pupil gladly volunteered to take his place. Transforming into their human forms, the family secretly set out to Yana’s estate.
It had been the first time Kalista entered the human world. While she was curious about its existence, she preferred the seclusion and familiarly of her home. The group had travelled for two days and were on the outskirts of Russia before they were attacked. The Korikov family was well known for their malicious methods of murdering the supernaturals. Kalista’s family was well aware of their threat as they travelled. Despite the large amount of secrecy and planning that had gone into the journey, a Korikov couple and their son had managed to hunt them.
They attacked in the middle of the night. Kalista’s remembers the event vividly. She watched as her parents were brutally murdered, watched as the older man sliced the magical horn off her mother’s head, watched as they continued striking her father tens, hundreds of times. They were smiling. She wasn’t able to move, even after Stefan firmly grabbed her shoulder, even after she heard a sharp scream escape from her own mouth. She couldn’t feel the heat of the flames Stefan created to border them from the Korikov family. Everything had gone numb. Kalista’s eyes stayed attached to the two individuals she loved more than anything. She watched their bodies slowly cease to move. She watched it at all. She remembered her eyes eventually meeting the young boy, his dark, colorless eyes swallowing her. He smiled as Stefan dragged her away. Kalista fell into unconsciousness shortly after.
Kalista awoke several weeks later, in an entirely new world. Unsure what to do, Stefan had brought Kalista to a small town in Virginia, known as Nowhere, where he had spent several years of his life studying at Gringore Academy. He met with the headmaster in private, and begged for his help. Alfred immediately called in the Fae Advisor, Nala, and the academy’s own Unicorn, Arianwyn. The four swore to secrecy of Kalista’s identity and agreed that Nala would raise her. Death of Asteria and Charon soon circled around the world, and a great mourning shortly pursued. Kalista’s whereabouts became a mystery to all. Stefan claimed she disappeared when they were attacked, and eventually returned to his Guardian duties. He occasionally visits to check up on Kalista, but stays far out of sight.
It took several months before Kalista was able to cope with her reality. Nightmares haunted her every moment, both awake and asleep. She hated herself for not having the strength to help her parents. She vowed to never transform into her Unicorn form until she had brought justice to her parents. A year passed before she was able to make it through the day without tears. Nala taught Kalista the ways of the world and helped her learn how to blend in with human society and avoid modern iron inventions. She changed her name to Kayley Sherwood and pretended to be a Maagia with Magic Immunity, to both keep her protected and blend in better. Kayley eventually came to trust Nala, but continued to keep her at a distance.
When Kayley learned of Gringore Academy and the Guardians, she promised herself to work harder than anyone and become a Guardian who could protect those who needed help. No one would have to go through what she did ever. Until she came of age, Kayley busied herself studying supernatural creatures and getting her human body into shape. Three years after Kayley had been with Nala, Naida was brought to her home. A Merrow who had nowhere else to go. Kayley saw so much of herself in the girl and easily grew close to her. She helped her ease into the human world and quickly became protected of her.
After a few years of adjusting to mundane life, the two eventually enrolled in Gringore Academy. Kayley quickly became one of the academy’s top students. Because of her vow to her parents, she studied, practiced, and worked harder than any of the other students. She is incredibly dedicated to becoming a powerful Guardian and bringing justice to her parents. Unlike Naida, Kayley is quite blunt, stubborn, and often viewed as rude during first impressions. She has no social skills and tends to keep conversations with others short. The only person she feels comfortable around and trusts completely is Naida.
Charon was a well distinguished individual among the supernatural community. He and his wife spent their life dedicated to healing others across the country. He is courageous and kind. He died 9 years ago by the Korikov family
Like her husband, Asteria has a well known reputation for her many good deeds. She is incredibly sweet and caring. She was murdered by the Korikov family, along with her husband 9 years ago.
After Kalista’s parents died, Nala took her in and showed her how to live among the human world. While she is grateful for Nala and her help, she continues to keep the two of them at a distance
Naida was adopted by Nala three years after Kalista was. They two grew close very quickly
I'm putting the accepted characters family members (those in town) into the Townies NPC tab. They will be unavailable for adoption unless you say otherwise. I am also going to be giving them a temp appearance pic (unless they already have one provided in the CS). Feel free to PM me a chosen pic, and extra information about them if you want!
