The Year 1899

January

The month of January saw little importance in world history, nations went about their business and nothing of note truly happened.

February

The second of february saw the start of the Itheraen-Bonon War, with the aggressors being the King Sanguine Bonon IV, who sited that Itheraen land “was once a part of the old Boish Empire and that union must be restored should the state have a chance at being considered a world power again.”

Later that week on February Second saw the first battle of Thermolae, where a force of 9,000 Bonan Soldiers attacked the militia of only 700 Ithereans. The battle lasted 14 hours before the Iterean militia was destroyed, but inflicted a devastating amount of casualties upon the attacking force, almost 980 Bonan lay dead.

The Bonan Forces were not able to advance much more before they met resistance from the Itheraen army.

March

{1} The Empire of Oyashima saw the finishing of another Kawachi-class dreadnought, while certainly not the first and likely not the last that the Empire will form, it has sparked worry from some neighboring nations about the increasing size and power of the Oyashiman fleet

The Republic of Greth celebrates the “Day of the Savior” with the biggest parade in history, stretching for twenty kilometers, nations only hear of this with envy.

{5} The Empire of Saun continues to push colonial efforts despite increasing instability throughout the nation, an untold number of riots plague the nation as works throw their tools to the ground, demanding their people be treated equal in the eyes of the Imperial Diet.

{17} The Kingdom of Iathia sees an influx of refugees from the Salumanid Caliphate, while officials do not know the cause, the likely case is that the Caliphate’s various warlords are fighting amongst each other once more.

April

{3} The Itheraen-Bonan War slows to a crawl as Itheraen forces slowly push the Bonan army back to Thermolae, beginning the second battle of Bonan. 17,000 Itheraens clashed in a full front-wide offensive against an ill-prepared Bonan front. Itheraen forces, led by a Captain Alexandros Xerxes leads an impressive breakthrough with his regiment able to extend the front into Bonan lands.

{27} The Empire of Mille-Sessau sees a rebellion in its north eastern territory. The nation of Karum becomes free, claiming itself as an independent city-state backed by the recognition of the Kingdom of Chaegon and the Empire of Saun. Two days later, the Imperial Administration in D’amiens was forced to acknowledge the independent Karum.

{31} Coal mines are struck in the Republic of Joseon Republic, vast amounts of wealth uncovered allow for an increase in government spending.

June

{5} The Free States of Siracus sees the head family of Liame overthrown and replaced by Marino Bonzi, concerns grow between the Empire of Ethica and the Kingdom of Voskya, the nations closest to the free states.

{19} The Empire of Saun sees the largest strike in history at the capital of De’Leone where over 300,000 people refuse to work until they achieve equal rights. With over twenty different nationalities in the nation present, only three of which are treated as full citizens. The Imperial Diet is forced to convene.

{20} The strike in De’Leone shifts into riots and police forces clash with the citizens resulting the deaths of over 54 citizens and 23 police. It takes fifteen hours before the riots die down and the strikes are dispersed.

The Empire of Ethica, taking advantage of the stagnation of Imperial Saun seize a small island colony in Ryukan before selling it to the Kingdom of Chaegon to avoid the ire of Saun. This sees the rise of Chaegon as a colonial power, mainly for a staging point of the Royal Navy. Given the insignificance of the colony, Saun does not fight the case.

{21} The Republic of Atrines sees it’s nation prospers as a world record bounty of wool is harvested from it’s sheep and sell on the world market for a ridiculous $100 per pound.

September

{14} The Second Battle of Thermolae sees an Itheraen victory as starving Bonan forces march out of the city, surrendering to the Itheraen army.

The rest of the years sees nothing of relative note throughout history. Come the turn of the century, it is unknown what will happen in the world. But people are optimistic for the future.

It is the Turn of the Century

>Players are to PM their orders for Turn 1, posts are expected.

Marino Bonzi looked out over the sprawling expanse of Lazi. His manor house sat along the crest of one of the rolling hills that surrounded the city, and offered almost unrivalled views across the bay and out over the sea, glowing in the early afternoon light. The roar of the bustling city was little more than a whisper, and Marino allowed himself a smile. This was his land, his kingdom. The two Dante-Class Light Cruisers that skulked in the docks, did so under his flag. The hardened soldiers that patrolled the streets, keeping order over the passions and wildness of the city, were under his command. For too long his family had had to fight for it's place. The very house he stood in had once been the sole possession of his grandfather, a man who's family name was little more than a footnote in the rich history of the Free States. Marino's father had made sure people had at least heard of the name, expanding the family's holdings and forcing his place in the grand councils of the great families, but he had not held any real power. But Marino, he had ensured that the name Bonzi would never be forgotten. With his father's wealth, Marino had bribed all the other families of Lavi, and found other ways to handle those who refused the money. And that was just the start.

There was a brief knock on the door, and Marino turned in time to see his son push it open, nodding quickly in greeting to his father, who smiled as he held his arms open in greeting.

"Sandro, it is good to see you."

"And you, father."

"You have news?"

Sandro allowed himself a smile as he nodded. He had the same dark hair and bright eyes as his father, his lean figure dressed in the latest fashions from the continent, a long, thin rapier sheathed at his hip.

"I do. Liame is ours."

"And the Alboresi family..."

"They didn't know what was happening till it was too late. We already controlled most of the city, it was almost too easy to sway their soldiers to the winning side. No shots were even fired. Most of the family agreed to join us, those that wouldn't, I dealt with."

Marino's eyes flicked to the hilt of Sandro's sword for an instant.

"How many?"

"Just three. Luco, as you said. But also his wife, Marietta, and their eldest son, Alesso. Gabriello, their second eldest, was far more accommodating, I left him in charge of the remains of the family, under our management of course."

"Excellent news, Sandro."

The father and son embraced warmly for a moment before Marino pulled back, walking over to the heavy oak table that dominated much of the room, Sandro following after him. A detailed map of the surrounding area was spread out over the table, and it was to this that Marino gestured towards.

"I've heard reports from the east and the west, Ethica and Voskia. The more united that the Free States become, the more wary our neighbours become. I'm sure they'll soon hear about our taking over of Liame, so we need to make sure they don't do anything rash. Send men we can trust to both nations, under the flag of truce. It's been too long since I last met with the King and the Emperor, and I want to gauge how much we can rely on them."

"Of course, father. I'll also arrange a meeting of the other great families, here in Lazi. We need to make sure that none of those serpents are planning anything."

Marino smiled as he turned to look at his son. He placed a hand warmly on his shoulder.

"I'm proud of you, Sandro. Your mother would be as well. Now go, there is no time to lose."

January 1st, 1900

Sitting silently at his desk, John read through the new deal that was drafted by the Advisor of Economy. It is crucial that the King read this, she said, before the conversation cut short by one of her tax collectors. It seems like another riot had just broke out, John thinks as his fingers run along his hair, trying to pressing down a strand of hair back into shape. But no matter what, the resilient hair shows no sign of cooperation and continue to stand proud in the light of dawn. And he does not like it.

Just then, a soft knock coming from the other side of the wooden door, followed by a deep masculine voice, “My liege, Prince Henry William asked to see your presence at his summer castle tonight.” And then, the voice stopped, waiting for the owner of this palace to give his words about the matter. Although it is quite urgent as these form of messages should have been given notice a month or two prior the events taken place, the Second Prince would not likely to attend.

Controlling his breath so that it would not echo in this silent hallway, the servant fixed his posture before trying to “reminisce” about his master, the lord of this place, and the representatives of the people. During the past decade, Master John had never left his room. The time that he could see his master face under the light of dawn is as much as the number of fingers on his right hand. And although he never like to say it or having other to notice it., it is six and not five. Six chubby little fingers place side by side. He could move it with ease and possible to live by himself fine. But, for the sake of being able to a part of this society, the servant had to hide his sixth in. Only the master knows it, the servants thinks before placing his right hand into the glove. The pinky becomes a little bigger but that is all. Thanks god that he is the only one that know.

“Would other be there?” The voice coming from the other side, with something smashed against the floor. Despite the temptation of peeking through the keyhole to see what is happening inside continue to rise, the servant’s posture remained concreted. Head held high. Hand behind his back. Straight spine and chest filled with pride for the ability to serve. The servant did well to resist his temptation of disobeying his master’s order.

“Yes, sir. Princess Margaret Vaughan von William, owner of the Purple Palace; Princess Lucy Vaughan von William, the Lady of the Grand Library;...” Just then, the voice is cut short by his master grumble that echoed from the other side.

“Fine, fine. Tell others servants to prepare my wardrobe. Heat up the bath. Call the barber. I want everything to be prepare when I come down.” The master said, before the sound of the door closing could be heard as the vase next to him move a 1mm to the right.

“Understood,” the servant whispered as he fixed the vase to its proper position. As the tip of his finger touch the vase, a strange sense that he had no longer felt begins to arise in his soul. Was it fear that is arising on his heart? Or was it the great sense of pride for a servant being used after it had accumulated years of cobwebs and finally able to stand in the light of dawn use? The servant doesn’t know for sure. But the questions about these mixed emotions continued to ripple in his heart, just as his footsteps are echoing in the silent hall of the unnamed palace.

"My Emperor." Prime Minister Nakamura bowed.

"Take a seat, Prime Minister."

Nakaruma nodded, seating himself before the Emperor. "We have started our reforms. We will further industrialize our country's infrastructure." The Emperor sipped his tea. Listening closely to what his prime minister was saying. "Further, we have also set up a program that will allow for our army to receive better training. Our naval expansion plans are going as planned. If all goes as planned, we will be able to expand the empire's territory onto the mainland very soon." The Emperor nodded in approval. "We must also ensure that our population is content. The stability of the empire is the greatest priority. We must secure our future for our children."

"Hao Bing Dynasty seems to be descending further and further into instability. I worry that if the dynasty collapses, certain groups might set their eyes upon Oyashima." The Emperor said. "And if that day comes. The Imperial Navy must be ready to defend our islands. If you must, set up more aggressive policies of industrialization. Build more ports, whatever you must to bring more jobs to our people. But to further strengthen our military power."

The Prime Minister bowed. "Yes my Emperor."

The President looked through the days newspaper. The country is weary. Stuck between the HaoBing Dynasty and the Oyashiman Empire puts the Joseon Republic in a diffcult position. It seems like many the mainland continent is growing weary of the Oyashiman Imperail Navy's aggressive naval expansion. Meanwhile, the state of the Hao Bing Dynasty deteriorates with each passing day.

Joseon is playing catch up. The president reads on concerned. He knows that Joseon isn't the strongest nation. But at the same time, he is weary of possible aggression by other nations.

Trade with the Oyashiman Empire is one aspect that isn't looked upon favorably by others. But its his nations largest sources of income. The possibility of becoming a part of the Oyashiman Empire isn't out of the equation. If push comes to shove, then he has no choice bu t to let the Joseon Republic merge into a province of the Oyashiman Empire.

For now, all he can do is continue to industrialize his nation and prepare for any form of self defense. He must also prioritize forging stronger relations with the Oyashiman Empire.

Hao Bing Kingdom

Things are further spiraling out of control within the kingdom. The socialist movement, though minor is still wreaking havoc across the western region of the kingdom. But there are also rouge militias within the western region battling for control. Meanwhile the pro monarchists continue to support the national army in attempting to maintain control over the land.

In these times, the Emperor had no choice but to reach out to the Oyashiman Empire for assistance. Relations with the Empire aren't bad. Infact without some of the Empire's supplies to the Hao Bing Kingdom, the Emperor would not have been able to arm his men and the monarchy loyalists. His adviser informs him that the leaders of the pro monarchists had arrived and the Emperor told his adviser to let them in.

Bowing before him, the men of the pro monarchists faction. "I've summoned you all here to inform you one thing."

"Our grip on civil control is losing. We have to ally ourselves with the Oyashiman Loyalists. There is no other choice if we are to get weapons. I have already sent my minister to the Empire to negotiate a new arms trade deal. Whatever the Oyashiman EMpire demands in return for its aid, we must accept."

"But I will also be sending your militia to train along side the national army, in order to improve military training and readiness."
