They arrived at in the main room, Alexander taking a seat at the bar, opposite the tender. He placed two plates on the bar, generous helpings of both sausage and egg on them. A single large biscuit was placed on the side of the plates, and the entire thing smelled of too much pepper. Two mugs of a bitter orange juice were placed beside the plates to finish the breakfast, clearly intended for the guests of the inn. "Alright, I've given you a free room, and I've given you a free breakfast. What happened? We can..." He glanced over to Calliope and quickly corrected himself to something less worrying. "Ah... It's clear that something bad has happened to Calliopes home."
He decided not to mention the plumes of smoke that now rose from the manor. The entire town, by now, was well aware of them, and were clearly worried about what was happening. The general consensus, however, was that there was a house fire of some sort... How wrong they were. Alexander took hold of the fork sticking out from his plate and took a bite of the peppery eggs, closing his eyes at the overspiced food. Still, it was better than nothing, and now that he realized it, Alexander was starving.
"So, here's what happened." He put down the fork and folded his hands across the top of his head, sighing. "The army of Rhal attacked her home, almost certainly as an interlude to an invasion. I'm taking Calliope to some of her family in Norgarrum. Rhal wouldn't march that far to chase a girl I doubt they know lives. It would be suicide to anger so many nations at once. She should be safe there. We need supplies, mainly food, and then we're leaving. I would suggest you inform the towns populace and do the same. Go, do something, but they'll be heading this way next. I'd give you by the end of the day, at most, before they get here." He paused and looked over to Calliope, curious how she was taking this.
