It did not look like an evil place. No dark tower with stormclouds or vultures watching overhead. There was no distant cackling or the flap of massive wings, no, it was just a ruin. The frightening part however, was the fact your little group found it. No amout of scrying by master wizards or searches by armies found this place, but somehow a group of children following nothing but varied chunks of story, found a ruin of legend that should not exist.

The first memories you can gather since the trouble started was around the fireplace of the tavern your group hid themselves in. The events of the past few days came flooding back to you all, some cried, some were silent, all wished it was a nightmare.

It did not happen overnight, but over a week's time. Men and women alike were filled with greed and envy, hatred for all who had anything that could even vaugely be considered theirs. It was as if all the evil of thousands of years, once buried deep in the hearts of mortals, was now set free. War broke out across the entire world, not race against race or kingdom against kingdom, but everyone against anyone, a true madness that would bring a tear to any madgod's eye.

You all could remember how it started, how could anybody forget. The madness seemed to cloud the minds of all but children, unfortunately not many children lasted the first few days. You remember how you met, frightened at the edges of civilization and, despite the hatred and bias your elders had for these other races, you all were everything to eachother now, there was nothing left.

Races

At the moment these are our races, please make suggestions and ask questions.

Magic

For children, much magic is out of reach, though there are a few things even children can learn if given the oppourtunity.

Pyromancy: Easy to learn, hard to control. A child pyromancer will oft find that their emotions effect their magic. Depression and sadness cause their flame to die out, making it near impossible to cast, whereas extreme anger and hatred will cause the flame to burn bright but out of controll, making it difficult to distinguish freind from foe.

Restoration: A magic that requires detication, very few outside of clerics and preists will weild effective restorative abilities. What makes Restoration a powerful tool for a child is a second, little known factor outside of skill. This factor is hope.

Those with hope and trust in their abilities will oft see more sucess than those doubting themselves. Though in this respect, a child may also sometimes find that they cannot save everyone.

This is not a limit on the magic, but more of a guideline, an example. Use common sense when creating a magically inclined character. Like any other skill, it takes time and effort to master, and with magic emotions play a huge role.

Once again, questions are welcome. I am currently poking around with the story a bit more. Feel free to take artistic liberties with your CS application, but use common sense.

I'd like to make a character from this little guy.

Perhaps he's another characters pet, or something like a friend they tell no one about. After all, children arent supposed to play with big mean dragons.

Here is a question for you @That1Guy, for example (and i'm not sure if this is a dumb question) but elves supposedly live a long time or at least age really slowly- so would a child in their world be someone under 50 or are we having everyone do things in the sense of a human child where its everyone is old at 100 and young at under 18?

Either answer i'm fine with- just curious as I start to think about character design :)

It really can depend, the world I base this off is one of my shortstories. To make this easier, the age range I am looking for is, in humans, 12-17 or, the general area where puberty starts/ends.

So, humans 12-17

Elves 24-34 (Elves will quite obviously be a bit more mature than the younger races, High Elves will try to maintain a face of maturity even if their emotions and surroundings are just as clueless to them as it is to others, Wood Elves tend to be more outwardly emotional though, and will openly admit to not understanding something, but will often be willing to learn.)

Orcs 10-16 ( Orcs physically mature faster than the others, being the largest of the children.)

Naga 12-17 (Naga share the human lifespan, but emotionally do not mature until adulthood, possibly due to their coldblooded nature. They are often clingy as children as a result of needing warmth, and when mingling with the other races, are rarely found not in contact with children their age. )

@ShwiggityShwah As interesting as it may be, I am not so sure about a dragon being your sole character, especially if you depend on another player for it. I would suggest that as a pet for your character It could work. I am nothing if not flexible though, so send me a cs if you would like.

Just remember a few things.

Dragons tend to live to be 1000+ maturing at around 250.
Adolecence ranges from birth to around 85 and until they reach this age they grow very slowly. They are however intelligent enough to completely learn a language at 10 and at 20 tend to be able to understand the native languages of many races, however speech is not possible until 150 when their vocal cords properly develop.

@That1Guy

Blast it all! The ages dont work, having 150+ year old at that point would make the dragon an egghead compared to the other characters.

Which I guess might work as a brain of the operation, I didn't want him to be at all powerful, maybe even quite cowardly to start with.

@ShwiggityShwah well there IS a reason dragons are normally bosses or information hubs. Give me some time and I may be able to work something out. I still have yet to finish the actual plot.

I kind of had more of plucky teenager anime kind of vibe to this. Very important issues but a bit of humor tossed in.

also

Would a fledgling necromancer's son with barely a grasp on how to construct a proper undead servant be allowed?

Sounds good to me, remember you don't have to be useless, just dont go all " 12yr old archmage " on me.

I have a character in mind that is an Orc from a warrior family but she doesn't want to be such a warlord. Is this something reasonable? C:

I'm considering a half-drow half-giant youth. No tendency to any profession as of yet. Would that work and be acceptable?

Did you plan on waiting before you got a CS up? If one hasn't already been made it would probably be a good idea to make one if you are waiting for them.

I'm interested in joining this, and I already have a Cleric healer character that I've been wanting to use. A few tweaks and he'd it right into the world you have set up here.

Very tempted to use that naga picture.

A 16 year old naga with a farmer/rancher background that is very vain and boy obsessed. Maybe a pyromancer, having to use such magics merely so her people are not limited to the colder lands.

If anything is to say. Id love to play a little human child. A little builder always tearing things apart looking at them, maybe doodling a bit and putting them back together again. The type of child to stare into the open pit of the hearth as people fordge stuff and smelt their own little metal bits. Copying what the adults do.

Anyways enough brainstorming there. @That1Guy expecially during the more past relegsted timephrames humans in their teens were often apprentices at something. Or at least learning the skill. So would that also apply here?
If so, seeing as before the adults went crazy the kid could have been the apprentice to some type of artisan or intelectuall and then have the ability, with allocated high chance of failure, to attempt the same thing?

@Song Book@ShwiggityShwah@ShwiggityShwah@Dusty@Doll Maker@Fetzen

All seems good on most everything guys. My posting will be slow seeing as life comes first, but I am still here.

@Song BookWhat you say is true, and if what you mean by artisan or intellectual is some sort of golemancy or smith focused character, all good to me. You lot on here seem to be the intelligent sort and seem to understand what I am going for here so let the mind wander with your CS applications, just remember to pm me your finished cs application and if I at all find anything I have a question about I will let you know.

And speaking of cs, I was never good at making them pretty with the bbcode, so if anybody wants to fix that be my guest.

Name:

Age:

Race:

Fears: [ Can be added to later on for rp reasons, but requires at least one item, snakes, spiders, chickens, darkness ect ect. ]

Description: [pictures and such allowed and encouraged but not normally as a complete replacement for a description. ]

Magic: [ if applicable, be reasonable. ]

Weapon of choice: [ if applicable, be reasonable, race and age will play heavily into this. You won't see a 14 year old human swinging around a full broadsword or spear to great effect. Think smaller weapons a child or young teen could realistically handle based on their race. Speaking of race, A Naga for example will have easier access to shortspears and longbows than battleaxes and crossbows, and by an extent will more than likely know these weapons better.]

Skills: [ skills other than those of mainly combat focus, Alchemy, Enchanting, Cooking, Leatherworking, tracking ect ect ect. ]

Background: [ Why are you here, what happened to make you follow a children's story into a ruin of myth? ]
