Bruno VanAlrick Gillette
Age:
27
Species:
Human
Sex:
Male
Appearance:
Bruno is a man touched by magic. His appearance is changed with cosmetic enchantments or side-effects that leave him looking a touch otherworldly. To those that can't pierce the veil he looks like a somewhat average young man. His jaw is strong and box shaped; his face somewhat rough with a long flat nose and steely sharp eyes. A thin scar traces across the bridge of his nose underneath his eyes. His brows are thick though manicured, and his ears laden with piercings. His hair is dirty blond and often slicked back. His lips are full though his teeth chipped or capped in some places. With the aforementioned enchantments in place his hair takes on a more silvery tone, his teeth are pearly white and canines sharp. His eyes glitter silver in the light and entirely he is easier to notice. His fashion sense is professional or classy, often wearing a suit of black. He prefers adorning with cooler tones and is often wearing gloves, eye-wear, a pocket square and a few rings. His shoulders are broad and his skin thick, marred with scars across his wrists, neck, ankles and abdomen. A tattoo of a rose begins at his right shoulder, with threading thorny vines tracing down his arm.
Personality:
Bruno comes off with a seething roughness. The sort of understated violence found in a well veiled threat, and less in screaming rage. He is often stoic and collected, while calculated and cold. This all said he is not particularly sour or crass; he takes joy in a sense of humor and enjoys idle chat. He is the type to stay out of the way unless some event interests him. He is somewhat self-centered though not ignorant of the feelings other's posses. Quiet though not shy, reserved though not unattentive. He attempts to cultivate an air of grace and gravitas, which is where his cold appearance stems from. The sort of person you could describe as "having a heart of gold; if you dig really, really deep down."
Once he folds you into his collection of people he cares for, he is fiercely loyal and defensive. He can appear as the type to work only for himself, but in reality he is as directionless as the rest of us, and will gladly go out of his way to help an ally. Stubborn, sometimes cruel and protective. Duplicity; he is Bruno.
History:
Bruno began his adventure into the world of fantasy with a very simple mistake. He was in the wrong place at the right time. Having driven to pick up his older sister from the airport he was caught up in a duel of sorts. Some sort of being, whether human or not he can't remember; was facing off against some sort of large monster. Likely a devil of some sort he's come to learn. In the altercation his vehicle was used as a projectile, launching him towards the red beast. He was lucky enough to survive, and unlucky enough to be found afterwards. Unconscious after this moment he was taken by a small group of magic users working towards their own interests. Summoning, controlling and detaining magic entities of a certain power threshold. Part of their movement was to take in any bystanders affected by their "studies" as they called them. These people were written off as those lost to natural disasters, building collapses or terrorist attacks. Whatever event was fabricated to cover the less than mundane reality.
Now a missing person, Bruno was a subject of this mysterious group of individuals. One such series of experiments was to attempt combining humans with demons and other magical beings. The end goal was likely for these individuals to use the properly tested and safe versions of these procedures to do whatever nefarious things they wanted to do. Bruno was shackled and prodded with many invasive needles, spells and other manners of experimentation. One of the lucky few to survive this particular battery of tests he survived to experience the groups disillusion. Running out funding and time they were separated or outright crushed from whatever vicious higher-ups they were working for/on behalf of. Bruno was yet again just a loose end; auctioned to a rather quirky fae. This being choosing the cliche name "Oberon" was a collector of sorts, and took interest in these experiments. After promptly discovering he had only a fleeting wisp of magic in him, Oberon grew tired of Bruno. Fickle as fae can be.
He was left to make his own life, back into the outside world he spent his time trying to re-adapt to the world he used to know, as well learn about the fantastical one he was rudely dragged into. After another chance encounter (this time in a bar) he befriended a curator of magical artifacts. In time he began to work under this person and he currently finds himself exploring different parts of the world for these mystic talismans and trinkets. His attitude towards the secrecy around the world is ambivalent, and he works to the best interest of himself and those he considers friends or allies.
Other:
Bruno employs use of different magic items or tools to keep up with more talented mages or natural casters. His favorite tool is a magic gun, though he keeps a long-sword for the close and personal, as well as enchanted gloves for emergency skirmishes.
Magics/Tools/Effects:
Witch-Magnum: A handle pistol crafted to empower ammunition with the wielders magical energy. Takes regular ammunition and is maintained much like a normal weapon. Visually distinct from a mundane pistol due to it's etches runes along the barrel. Where a regular grip would be found it instead is wrapped with inscribed ribbon. Revolver type gun with 8 bullet storage, does not release bullet casing without manual input.

Appearance: Magus’ figure is unassuming, being slightly shorter than average and being scrawny. He has pale white skin, clearly a result from staying in-doors to much. He has short, white hair and his eyes are light blue.
Personality: Magus is intelligence, cunning, and willful. Before his introduction to magic, he was lethargic and unmotivated. However, being introduced to magic, he has found a new spark of life. The rush of arcane energy surging through him, and the relief of solving a complex problem in a spell’s design are both equally excubranting to him.
Magus is not particularly social to people he does not know, but is capable of cooperation if it means furthering his goal. While it might not be immediately obvious, Magus does value loyalty, and if a person is loyal to him, he will be loyal in return, but to those who are duplicitous to him, he is fully willing to be duplicitous in return.
History: Magus is not his given name. He shed his birth name long ago. The person he was before was poor, weak, and an outcast. However, even then, he had a keen mind and a strong force of will. He could see cracks in the facade of the world. It helped contributed to people thinking he was a freak.
Eventually, he would stumble across a group of wizards and sorcerers. They had posted an ad for a job that was too good to be true, a job that required no training, no experience, and paid well. He thought that it was some type of scam or criminal recruitment, but he felt a pull to believe it was true. He was able to shake the feeling, and hold that it was some type of trickery, but his curiosity got the better of him and he went.
They were hypnotizing people into being their servants, but he had the force of will to resist their mental intrusion, and the presence of mind to not show it. It was quite easy to fool them. They were to egotistic to presume that a mere mortal could trick them, making them all to easy to manipulate. However, this turned into a golden opportunity for him. He was able to learn magic right under their noses, by simply taking their books and reading them. Whenever he was caught, he would just say that he was doing research for another member of their group.
Eventually, members of the group began to suspect his trickery, but by then, he was useful to them, and they believed they were in control of him even without mental manipulation. Manipulating them was actually quite easy, as they were egotistical and foolish. It only took a few honeyed words, and the occasionally begging and grovelling. He studied under them for four years. In fact, by implanting the idea that others were using to complete their rituals and do the appropriate studies for them, members of the group began to actually use him for these services only helping him keep his ruse.
During this time, he had discovered an old, unfinished spell that could enhance the magic powers of the person who cast it. In secret, he worked on completing this spell. By this time, it was such a common place thing to see him reading old, musty spell tomes and preparing arcane rituals, no one questioned it. By time the ritual was fully complete, it was to late. He had grown to strong for them, he had been reborn as the Magus.

Total Score: 6
Effect: Through a long and gruelling ritual that must be performed at a nexus of arcane power, the power of gemstones and incense can be infused into magical book in order to bind it to a person and transform it into an Arcane Tome.
The Arcane Tome is capable of defending the mind of the person it is bound to, reducing the effectiveness of mind-altering effects by enhancing the person’s willpower and through warding magic placed on the tome.
The Arcane Tome also enhances the magic of the wielder, granting them in an enhanced reservoir of magical energy and allows the user to cast spells written into tome at greater power than they would otherwise be able to.
