They are only superhuman - but human nonetheless. - Moira Rand 2011
Evolution? Evidence of alien tampering? Divergent evolution? Signs of the End Times? Proof of the paranormal? There are so many theories about metahumans. It is unlikely that any one theory is correct. Theories are just Man’s way of trying to explain everything in existence - to make sense of the universe.
Metahumans have been around for as long as we have recorded history. In early times such beings were regarded as the offspring of gods, with legendary tales of their deeds lasting for centuries. But it should be known that our forefathers were given to exaggerate a bit.
The purges and inquisitions killed off many a metahuman bloodline or drove them far into hiding. And for centuries such being practically vanished. A few were notable and recalled fondly by history. Leonardo da Vinci was one such being. Some of the other greats of science were early metahumans, simply born with creativity and great minds. Some of the greats were regaled in fiction. Frankenstein, HG Wells, Nemo, Phantom, Dr Jekyl, to name a few.
The first world war again ravaged our gene pool. Metahumans who survived often found themselves in freak shows, or living as hobos on the rail, or in the various great frontiers of the world. Those without abnormalities of appearance lived in secrecy among humans as paranoia gripped the world. When World War II came around a very few metahumans came forward to stand against atrocity - and a group of Nazi Ubermenschen known as the Fourth Reich. Oh the comic books were just that - stories to inspire kids. The real stories were never told. Who would have believed them?
It was in the wake of the second world war and the development of the H bomb that the metahuman phenomenon became publicly known. North Korea unleashed the first metahuman attacks in the Korean War. They were far from being as powerful as the Nazi group was, but still began to change the face of the war. It wasn’t long before other metahumans showed up to restore the balance of power.
Realizing it was already losing the metahuman race, the West, particularly the USA, began an intensive search for metahumans to train and study. It is particular note that this era is best known for UFO sightings and reports of secret government experiments. Coincidence?

Over two hundred years ago a young adult dragonlord fleeing from a world in another realm sought refuge and a place to someday raise a family. She settled in what she thought was a sparsely inhabited world. As decades rolled by and their numbers grew she assumed her human form and began to observe the humans.
She didn’t really like them, nor how they treated one another. Yet she also found they had redeeming qualities from time to time. She began to understand how they formed large grouping called nations - not so different from the humans of her former world. Then the inevitable happened.
The place she had selected for a home was none other than a place not far from where a city known as Philadelphia would one day stand in the years of the colonies. England was making her friends miserable - almost as slaves. And so when they decided as one to stand up against the tyrant, King George, she decided to aid them. Of course, the prose of Thomas Jefferson might have had something to do with this. She was quite fond of the man - at least as fond as an dragon could be. She chose to help fund their little rebellion. And dragons, as you know, aren’t fond of parting with their hordes.
On the day that Pearl Harbor was bombed this same dragon was distracted by the hatching of her son, whom she named Warlock - for this was the day a great country became locked in a war. (Humans joke about it being a day that would live in infamy - but never to her face.) Warlock grew up idolizing superheroes such as Captain America. For his first birthday he was given a comic book and had collected them ever since. At age one he went off to ‘fight’ Nazis. (Translation: cowered in bunkers while London was getting bombed, then swam to Germany where he had to hide behind tanks to keep from getting shot full of holes. He was trying to save a downed friendly pilot - who spent his time keeping the dragon alive until he could get the fledgling smuggled out by the French Resistance.)
During the World War II era an organization known as Legion was born - again funded partly by the dragon - to fight a menace known as Hydra which was bent on conquest of the planet itself. Hydra was composed of layer after layer of control and divided into several organizations. By the end of the war Legion had broken the backbone of Hydra and scattered them. They were thought destroyed.
They were wrong. Some of the parent organizations survived. New organizations sprang into being that Hydra would find useful. And in the 21st century the Hydra has again begun to rear its ugly head. It remains in the shadows, careful not to awaken its old enemy.
Legion still exists, though it has been badly weakened by a general lack of funding. But they have found new backers willing to donate to their cause so that they can remain vigilant. And as the metahuman menace continues to grow they have begun to seek out and recruit a team of superheroes - men and women of character and power.
Their funding is limited. They will thus only accept the best choices. The selection process is very much like the Avengers. Legion is a cross between SHIELD and GI JOE. They may very well pass on a powerful character that lacks strong moral fiber.

Powers
1. This is a Mid Powered RP - NOT Low.
2. Work from a concept. I am looking for more Kapow, Thwip, Whoosh, Krakathoom than lower powered RP’s. Think of somewhat watered down versions of Marvel.
3. Be explicit about power limits / drawbacks. Powers should not be OP.
4. Try not to duplicate other members.
5. Character Age range 25-35. I will consider exceptions, BUT the character must have an established life, but not be some methuselah. This means 35 is pretty much the extreme.
6. Characters MUST have a life beyond their superhero work - friends, family, career. Each must be described, with comments as to whether that individual is aware of the hero’s secret life.
7. ALL characters MUST have a Secret Identity and a Superhero Identity. NO Public ID’s.
8. ALL characters MUST have a superhero career already ongoing. Otherwise, why would anyone contact them?
Forbidden powers (for members. NPC’s may have some of these. You may ask, but odds are I will say no.)
1. Time based
2. Mind Reading
3. Mind Control (or similar powers that control others)
4. ESP
5. Power Nullification
6. Androids and Cyborgs
7. Any OP powers. (This means no one hit kills, or victim can’t resist type powers.)
Note: Don’t expect to tell me the character vomits forth magma or liquid nitrogen, then expect to tell me that he can roast or make corpsicles out of a human in a split second and expect that to stop an archvillain. Why? Because it doesn’t happen in the comics.
Don’t bore me with a lot of physics. Keep the explanations succinct and easy to read. (I happen to love physics. I used to pilot all the hard courses for a college.) I want other players to be able to understand the concepts before they go cross eyed trying to read them.
There WILL be NPC’s out there with the same powers. Expect that. Of course they may be villains.

About the RP
This will be a GM guided setting with characters being required to stick to the main plot. I will not be entertaining nor supporting side adventures. There will be 6 open slots plus up to two for myself. I will be running a number of NPC’s as well, such as the mysterious benefactors and the recruiters. Some will have powers; some will not. There will also be a number of trainers to assist those who are lacking in skills, as well as specialized medical personnel and shrinks.
This RP is intended for a group of CHARACTERS. That is each character should have a distinctive persona, not exist as a two dimensional profile. Breathe a little life into them. The characters should have personalities built on a past.
Characters will be expected to interact. If interaction becomes short and choppy, the members are welcome to create a Convo on the side, then copy and paste to the group. Just make it very clear who is talking and thinking as you go.
The group HQ will be set up in the classical New York City. Missions may take them all over the planet. However, this isn’t some UN initiative where the characters will have the authority to act. The benefactors are still working on that sort of recognition.

Anyways, first let's find out if there is any serious interest before I create an RP and post a blank CS.
