Kenneth Styles

Another sun rises and another day Ken wakes up, but this time, with a start. He looks around frantically and quickly calms, realizing that he is safe. "I forgot... I'm in my dorm... I'm... home..." He contemplates that notion for a bit until his stomach protests his train of thought. "Right, food first. Then I can think about this more..."

His feet hit the floor and guide him into the kitchen. From there he scans the options that his roommate had already provided. "Well, there's not much, but I can make something out of this..." His hands get right to work, making a seasoned breakfast of eggs in a toasted sandwich with cream cheese acting as the mayo. He savors his food fully and then quickly cleans up after himself before going back into his room and putting on fresh clothes. He looks in the mirror and smiles in gratitude. "You've come a long way... But you're not done yet... Keep going..." He says to himself and then his eyes set upon his clock.

"Fucking Hades! I'm late! He scrambles all over his room, gathering his supplies as quickly as he can, and stuffing them into backpack and then rushes out the door. He dashes down and corridors to get to his first class, English 101. He makes it inside the main campus when it all dawns on him, "FUCK! MY MAP! I LEFT IT AT HOME!" Just as frantically when he ran into someone hard, making both fall on their asses hard.
"Ah! Fuck! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it!"
"Oh, it's okay." A female student smiles and stands up slowly. "Trust me, I know that feeling. What class are you looking for?"
"Ah... I don't know the room but I do know the subject. English 101.
"Second floor, Room 223, right hand side.
"Thank you so much! I'll have to repay you later! Lunch maybe?" He pauses, did he just ask someone out?! No, he can't have... But he just did... How is this possible?! he braces himself for the oncoming denial.
"Sure! I don't have much today!" Wait... What...? No... He must be hearing this! He must be!
"Ah... I'm sorry, but could you please repeat that?"
"I would like to go out. How about we meet after first period in the garden?" This was it! Ad date! An actual date!
"Okay! Great! I'll see you then, then!" He runs off, his heart racing like it was the engine of a Boeing 747. A fucking date! How could this happen on his first day! This has to be a fluke! It must be! No! Now is not the time for that! Class! Have to get to class!
He rushes in just as the class begins. Thankfully the teacher only lightly riffs on him for being late and allows him to take his seat in class.

"Lazy piece of shit"

While waiting for the bus to arrive, Raymond has been cursing under his breath and kicking a few stray pebbles at the stop. It was pretty sad that the son was beginning to seem more professionalo than the man who raised him. The boy simply let out a defeated sigh as the bus had arrived. Why should he let something that will be out of his life soon get in his way? He was going to move out soon and will never have to see that mans face ever again.

The bus ride to the college went the same as it did everymorning, earbuds in and everyone else out. Raymond took this time to focus on his day, it was always helpful and somewhat therapeutic for him to collect his thoughts. As well as remind himself why he wants to attain a higher education. The past few years have been the most critical in his life, he had lost his closest friend and mentor 3 years ago leaving a lasting scar on the boys heart. With Isaac gone, Raymond no longer had anyone to trust. His mother had long gone left the picture, and his father had been left an aggressive alchoholic ever since. The boy shook his head, now wasn't the time to think about that. There is a new chapter in his life, it was a fresh start. A small grin appeared on his face as he arrived at the stop.

The boy grabbed his bag and stepped off the bus, a smile on his face as he layed his eyes on Reinfield college, with his bag slung over his right shoulder he began making his way. After taking a couple of steps towards the school he could feel the presence of someone approaching him, he looked around and locked eyes with a pale skinned woman with black hair. The boy took off his earbuds and listened to what she had to say. It seemed as though she was lost and couldn't find the political science building, it kinda annoyed Raymond that of all people she decided to approach him, the guy with earbuds in listening to music. Raymond dismissed those feelings and checked his phone to see if he had some time to spare, the boy grumbled. He could indeed show her but at the cost of having breakfast, Raymond let out a defeated sigh and nodded. He'd feel bad if he refused to help such a frail and confused girl.

"Alright, I'll escort you."

Raymond placed both hands in his pocket and began walking with the pale girl in tow, he had to give a bit of thought as to where the political science building was as well as where his class was in relation to that. Though it kind was making him curious as to why someone would need an escort in the middle of the semester? Maybe she doesn't attend this school?

"You must be someone pretty important if you were assigned an escort, its a bummer that they didn't show up.

“When you invite your colleague to help lecture, one would expect it only proper to provide some sort of escort.” Eleanor replied. “This is my first time in American, let alone this University. Honestly, they really are living up to the great American reputation.”

Eleanor walked a half step behind, taking in everything about the school. Seeing everything from a fresh perspective was invigorating but she was getting distracted. She returned to her attention to the boy guiding her. “Oh! Pardon my manners, my name is Eleanor Jones, a political analyst out of the University of Cambridge.” She looked him over and smiled, excitement sparkling in her eyes. “And who do I have the pleasure of being saved by? You must tell me all about America. Is it true all of your food is twice the size of ours? Is everything deep fried? Do you all have red, white, and blue guns? Do you work into the ground under the pretense of Patriotism?”

His suspicion was correct as she wasn't a student here but she was a guest teacher, it made sense to him now. "Yeah you are right." The boy said in agreement, it was clear he wasn't too invested in the conversation but at the same time he was not outright rude.

When she jumped and introduced herself after sometime of walking, her name was Eleanor, Raymond just did a half turn and nodded while introducing himself, "Raymond Carter, Digital Design Major." The lady continued speaking, well in fact she bombared him with questions. It was a bit too much for him as he didn't even have breakfast yet. "Yes and no."

He said blatantly to answer he questions, after a few seconds of silence he elaborated. "I've never been to England so I wouldn't know but yes, I am pretty sure our food portions are double, possibly triple the size. Yes, just about everything is deep friend. When it comes to fast food. No not everyone holds red, white, and blue guns, and not everyone is truly as patriotic as they seem. They may scream 'America' yet contradict what this country stands for. Personally I do not stand under the pretense of Patriotism.

With that the two had arrived at the front of the political science building, "I believe this concludes this little trip, I hope I answered some of your questions about America. But I have to go now Miss Jones, it was a pleasure meeting you. The boy turned around checking his phone, it was nearing time for english class to start and he was on the otherside of the campus. As he was about to turn his stomach growled rather loudly and it was clearly audible by Miss Jones. Raymond's cheeks turned a very light shade of pink as he kept a straight face trying to play it off as if he didn't hear anything. With that embarrassment he was gone.

He manage to arrive at English class right before the professor had arrived, taking his seat in the back of the classroom. Raymond pulled out his pencil and notebook, waiting attentively for the professor to begin the lesson but before then. A boy wearing glasses had jetted into the classroom breathing heavily. It was a kid he was familiar with, Ken was a very flighty individual, and a bit too energetic in the mornings. Raymond prayed that he didn't try and talk to him, especially when he didn't even have breakfast yet.

Ken Styles

Ken settled down in his chair and takes off his backpack and pulls out every material he needed and then immediately slaps his head with his face. There was his map... He should have known that he stuffed it into his bag earlier last night. "I should have checked my bag you moron..." He mutters to himself before dragging his hand down the center of his face and then getting out the rest of his study materials. This may be his first day, but he is intending on making the most of it while he can. He sees the young man next to him and taps his shoulder to get his attention. Once it is give, Ken reaches over with his further hand for a hand shake. "Ken Styles. Nice to meet you." He whispers so as to not disturb the rest of the class. His hair is ratted from having to rush out the door. The scars on his arm shows. Scars from a broken past. A past that he's sooner forget about rather than think about any longer. They are a deep pain for him, but he smiles warmly anyways. After all, what's the point of dwelling on the past in pain, when you can make others happy in the present?

Raymond was focused on what the professor had been writing on the board when suddenly he felt a tap on his shoulder, before even looking over the boy rolled his eyes. It was as if he already knew who was tapping on his shoulder, call it irony for that it was the energetic guy. He seemed to have been extending his hand forward and trying to introduce himself. Raymond gave him an annoyed face before raising his hand and extending it forward, but not to shake is hand. The boy pointed forward towards the professor who stopped whatever he was doing to give Ken a piercing gaze. After he would realize he was the center of attention and the professor resumed, Raymond turned back to the bored. He didn’t blame him for being annoyed, first he shows up late and then tries talking in class?

”Raymond Carter, good morning”

It was a bit forced for him to be so cordial, you could tell just by the enthusiasm behind his good morning.

Eleanor (Alfonse)

Eleanor watched as her mark dashed away. Distant, straight forward, and, she chuckled to herself, hungry. A simple warning may not work so she’d take an additional precaution. Eleanor checked her phone and hummed ot herself as she made her way to one of the shops on campus and picked up a few muffins and a tea for herself. She made her way to the boy’s building and sat on a bench outside to wait for him. She pulled out her phone and logged into her student government email.

Attention All Student Clubs,

It has been brought to our attention that several clubs have violated the campus’s terms of conduct for club conduct off property and abused student government allocated funds. In light of these acquisitions, the Student Government will be implementing a monthly audit. Please be sure to document all activities and funds used in an official club capacity. Student government will begin auditing in three days. Please have your club’s treasurer prepare all applicable documents and forms as outlined in the student club handbook. Please visit the Department of Student Rights and Responsibilities or the Student Government Building for a replacement if you have lost or damaged your club’s copy.

All copy of the results of your club’s audit will be emailed to your club treasurer after being reviewed by the school board. Adults will be held from 1pm to 5pm daily for one week. Please email or call the Student Government to schedule your audit time. Failure to comply will result in your club’s suspension and/or termination and the suspension and/or termination of any offending members in the club at the discretion of the school board.

Thank you for your understadning,
Alfonse Corrumpi
Student Government Vice President

She sent the email to all club presidents and CC’d Alice on the email. She scrolled the news as she waited for the boy. Once she’d lifted his address from his mind, everything would be in place.

Eleanor (Alfonse)

After introducing himself to the Ken, class went rather smooth for Raymond, the only thing that seemed to have been bugging him was his empty stomach. I definitely have to get something to eat over the short break between classes. After introducing himself, Ken didn’t exactly speech much which somewhat surprised the guy. Usually his type would not stop bugging you until class was over.

Soon enough an hour and 15 minutes went by and Raymond was out of his first class and making his way towards the cafeteria. As he left the building he noticed Eleanor sitting on a bench outside his building. Didn’t she have a class that she was teaching for today, it seemed rather strange that she was able to get out of class before him and walk across campus.

Eleanor felt Raymond moving and kept her gaze down on her phone until she was sure Raymond noticed her. She glanced up and twisted her mouth into a full grin. “Raymond!” She shouted at the boy, waving him over. “Come sit with me for a second!” She waved the bag with muffins in it excitedly.

When the boy heard Eleanor call for him, he couldn’t help but wince again. It was as though the universe was purposely trying to starve him today. She then waved a bag with muffins, which made the boy’s mouth water as his hunger reached another level. Soon he felt his body shifting in her direction, Shit! It was as if she played him.

“Surprise seeing you again miss.” Raymond said as he took his backpack off and took a seat next to her silently waiting for what she might have to say. While waiting, he peaked out the corner of his eye he was trying to catch a glimpse of what kind of muffins they were.

“Eat, eat! I stole your away from your breakfast this morning so I thought I’d make it up to you.” She said brightly and passed him the bag. “I just asked for an assortment so I hope you like some of it at least. And the doddering fool forgot to mention the class I’m lecturing for isn’t for another few hours. Forgot to send the email he said.” She scoffed. “The old man just needs to retire. Mostly so I replace him as the premier expert in the field.” She winked at Raymond with a chuckle. Eleanor kept her eyes firmly on his face, ready to slip into the boy’s mind as soon as they made eye contact.

So she must have heard his stomach growl earlier, the boy shook his head in slight embarrassment. “I appreciate the food Miss, thank you.” the boy said nodding his head as he pulled out a chocolate muffin from the bag and began eating it consciously. If she wasn’t in front of him he would have downed the whole thing in one go. Though as he took a bite, there was a slight hint of enjoyment he was getting out of filling his belly. It was clear to her that he liked food, after feeding him he felt a bit less hostile towards the lady, staring her in the eyes and thanking her again.

“These are really good, thank you once again.”

It’s not everyday that a stranger treats you for breakfast so why not take advantage of the situation.

The moment he finished speaking, Eleanor’s eyes flashed red and she cast herself into his mind as his body relaxed into the tell tale trance. She flipped quickly through memories, picking out his address quickly and confirmed he was unaware of his abilities. She slipped out just as quietly, eyes darkening once again. "It's the very least I could do, a favor for a favor and all that.” Eleanor said, waving off his thanks. She stood and smiled at him again. “I’ve taken a bit of a liking to you so I’ll give you a word of advice Raymond. If you value your safety, stay home tonight. I would be rather distressed if you were hurt. It was a pleasure meeting you young man. I do hope you are as pleasant the next time we meet.” She blew him a kiss and walked away, humming to herself.

Raymond was a bit confused, the boy just simply continued gnawing on the muffin before his mind went blank for a split second. He was completely unaware of the magic that had just been performed on him. He came too shortly after, it seems as though Eleanor was going to be heading off somewhere. When she stood up she told him to stay home tonight which made the boy a bit skeptical of what was going to happen but before he could ask any questions, the woman blew a kiss at him throwing him completely off before leaving.

“What the hell was that?” he said before eating the rest of the muffin once she disappeared out of sight. Why would he she tell him to stay home tonight though? It was so..odd...

In winter, the air is cold and the days are short. All too soon, darkness falls on the US, but it will be another few hours before it is light again in the UK.

As the Washington sun began to drift behind the mountains, Alice woke with a start, grasping in the air for something to hold onto. Breathing raggedly, she stilled and ordered her thoughts, calming herself as she realized her bed was cloth, not stone, and that the past was the past. Taking more time than necessary to steady herself and change into some spare clothing she kept around, she moved to the door. She carefully pushed her way into the main room, fully expecting everyone to be gathered and waiting for her. She had no idea exactly how long she had been asleep, but she felt more rested than she had in days so it must have been a while.

“Good morning, my liege.” Alfonse greeted Alice as she emerged from the room. “Did you sleep well? I had considered waking you earlier but I decided the rest would do you good.” Alfonse set down the student council records he was working through down and poured alice a cup of tea, leaving cream and sugar on the side. He bowed and returned to his seat, picking up the papers to continue preparing for the audits coming up. He needed the head start since there was a stray to deal with tonight.

The thought made him hum, pleased with himself. Running into the boy tonight should be next to guaranteed. His alcoholic father broke easily after a few polite demands and the boy should be homeless within the hour, leaving him emotional and vulnerable. All in preparation for Alice to secure his sacred gear into her household. He looked back up at Alice.

“Ah forgive me, there are a few matters I should brief you on. Narti successfully located the stray earlier this afternoon. Once you are prepared, I will transfer us there immediately. In mortal affairs, rumors that several clubs on campus have broken multiple policies are growing. In an effort to reduce the chance of the school board directly interjecting in our affairs, I established a monthly audit of the clubs and their activities and spending habits so I can control the flow of information that makes it to the school board.”

Their time in London was very... boring. He didn't speak much to Desmond since they weren't particularly close. Nothing seemed to be bothering the general area of people there, and no one started any contracts that the Corrumpi people can't do by themselves. No one bothered with calling for them specifically too, so there were no complications. In the end, the most they did do was going around aimlessly.

The only thing Baradiel thought was important was the fact that the croissant was ridiculously delicious - something he didn't quite expect. Maybe he should have Alfonse buy him some varieties of this croissant next time he prepares breakfast. At least he knew what he preferred now. Maybe he should try out the other pastries. He didn't realize he hasn't paid attention to them before.

Seeing as they had spent quite some time there already, Baradiel told Desmond that they were going back to Alice as they would have to hunt down a Stray later. He grabbed the newspapers Alfonse wanted and then headed for the teleportation rune and waited for Desmond. Once he was prepared, Baradiel activated it and they were back in Seattle. Ah yes, if he were new, he would have hated going back and forth two countries with such a time difference. Well, at least it wasn't too bad.

"Alfonse? We got your papers for you." He called out as he stepped out of the room. It looks like they arrived just in time as Alice just walked out of the resting room - Kouta padding closely behind her before heading over to Baradiel. "Are we ready to go get that Stray?" He questioned once he handed Alfonse the newspapers he requested.

It was difficult not to look at the humans with contempt. Weak, pathetic creatures that barely understood the order of things. There was hardly any conversation made between him and Baradiel, not that he tried to initiate it. The concept of casual chatter was still somewhat foreign to him and he did not have anything to speak about outside of the peerage. Despite his distaste of humans, he found the differences between Seattle and London to be quite interesting. The sounds, the sights, and even the smells were totally separate from one another.

This unique factor of humans was not enough to keep his attention from drifting back to Alice and his home in Seattle. Desmond was more than eager to return once Baradiel stated it was time to go. Teleportation still made him uneasy but he handled the effects easily. He gave a respectful nod to Alice upon seeing her. Time spent doing nothing in London left the desire for battle in his heart. While the two talked, Desmond excused himself from the conversation and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge to drink.

Alice

Alice took the proffered cup with a smile, leaving her night terrors in the room behind her. Listening carefully to Alfonse's explinations, she nodded at the measures he had taken. "Good. I had noticed some issues with funding, but I'd rather this stays in house. The last thing we need is someone from outside coming to check on our school. Send it over to me for final approval once you're done setting everything up." As Baradiel and Desmond entered the room Alice greeted them with another small smile, taking a seat and fixing her tea the way she wanted. There was still time before full night, judging by the sky outside, and she wanted to go over a few details before the fight tonight.

"Before we head out, I want to go over the plan. I want to go about this quietly, rather than charging in half cocked. We barely know anything about what we're up against, other than that they've been stray long enough to forget their sanity. We'll go by car most of the way to avoid being noticed and scout out our target. Once we're sure what we're facing, we can form a more concrete plan." Alice looked at each of them in turn, making sure they were on board. It wasn't much of a plan at all, really just a more proactive version of 'wait and see', but she refused to put any of them in danger because she rushed into a fight she wasn't ready for.

Once the school day was over, Raymond would retreat to the library for some quiet studying time. It as always much quieter there than at home with his lousy alchoholic dad. This was an everyday routine as he would often take the time to take in all the notes he had wrote down for that day.

Night fell pretty quickly and it was time to head home, sadly. The boy placed all his belongings in his backpack and made his way to the bus stop to catch the next bus home. Going home had to be the guys least favorite part of the day just because of the environment he would have to return to.

”Shit.”

He cursed at himself as he got off at the bus stop near his house, he prayed that the he had already passed out drunk. Raymond even walked extra slowly just to give him extra time though it wasn’t enough to prevent the inevitable. Raymond placed a hand up against the handle of his house and opened the door. His father had been laying face down on the counter with bottles of beer surrounding home. When he heard the door open, the man turned his head towards his son giving him a grin.

”Welcome home you little shit.”

Just ignore it, he is piss drunk. It’s the alcohol talking. Raymond tried to continue walking towards his room but soon felt a hand latch onto his shoulder.

”Just gonna ignore me? You ungrateful little!”

As Raymond turned to face his father, he felt a fist crack him right in the jaw causing the boy to crash into the wall. Anger and adrenaline filled the boys eyes as he pushed off and tackled his father to the ground. ”I’m done putting up with your shit!” the boy said as both of them wrestled on the ground for positioning. Eventually Raymond won and began raining down a multitude of blows to his fathers face. Each punch he delivered slowly sucked the fighting spirit out of the guy. The boy had blacked out for a bit as he wailed on his old man, coming back once he saw that his punches were drawing blood.

Raymond stared at his bloody hands with a traumatized gaze then at his fathers bloody face, before rising up off the man. The boy grabbed his backpack and spit out some blood onto the floor.

”It didn’t have to be like this, don’t blame me for your bull shit. Maybe if you manned up and played your role you wouldn’t have gotten the shit beaten out of you.”

Raymond made his way towards the front door, he definitely wasn’t about to stay in the house.

”Maybe mom would have never left your ass.”

Desmond nodded in accordance with the plan "As you wish." His voice hid the contempt he had for this creature. He understood well enough that some devils leave their masters for good reason but once they become strays, they are nothing but a menace. Often when killing strays under Lucius's experiments he would imagine them as his father. Rage was a powerful tool in battle but it was something Desmond could hardly control once unleashed. The practice of steeling his emotions was to ensure this did not happen.

His thumb edged the hilt of the blade once more in comfort, a habit that had come about naturally. This blade was his connection to his mother, a reminder of the person who had given it all for him. It was perhaps a bit selfish of him but he would give his life for Alice just as well. Desmond leaned against the wall next to the door, arms crossed as he awaited the order to head out. Stray or even the Angel Michael himsef....Desmond would take on anything and anyone in defense of his lady.

"Sounds like a plan to me." With their lack of members, there was also the lack of firepower. It was for the best that they play it safe. He was definitely not opposed to thinking smart. After all, his style of fighting relied heavily on stealth and strategy as opposed to the other members who can go to the front lines and blast everything to bits. He let out a yawn before heading over to get another cup of coffee. There was still some leftover from earlier. It was colder, but bearable. He downed the pot in one go in an attempt to keep the sleepiness at bay.

"Hm... we could lure it out too. Test the waters of its power. It won't exactly be showing off a lot if it's just idle." The Bishop said with a small shrug. Baradiel had been a master of pissing things off - a few well placed shots would send a Stray ballistic. If it truly was a rampaging devil, then it should be easy to let it demonstrate a fragment of its power and magic. Though, if it was still smarter, it would be a bit of a problem. "But let's save that idea for later." Once they tested out the waters of its ability to think, a more solid plan could be made. Besides, Alice wasn't stupid so he figured that it wouldn't be too bad to follow her orders. It is why he's here in the first place.

"In any case, shall we go? I'd like to meet this Stray already." Baradiel wasn't one to get angry or anything like that. The main reason was because he took it out on things or people who he could harm, like Strays. Though if they turned out to be rather weak, he was rather sure the combined might of Alfonse and Desmond would be enough. It'd be a shame.

“Certainly, Mr. Dublois. Give me a moment to tidy up.” Alfonse responded as he carefully replaced the paperwork in the appropriate folders. He stored the newspapers the pair brought him away with the others he picked up that morning and, with a second glance over, he nodded in satisfaction.

“Very well my liege and gentlemen, I believe it is time we meet our unwitting prey.” Alfonse headed to the door before he turned around. “And please remember, our target is the stray and not the surrounding area.” He sent a long, levelled look at everyone but stayed on Alice for a moment longer than the rest. “We do not need more attention than the Beast has brought us for the time being. With that in mind, let us depart.” He stepped out, expecting the others to follow quickly.

Alice almost stuck her tongue out at Alphonse at his collateral damage comment, but by supreme force of will managed to only give him a sarcastic look instead. She followed him outside, regaining her composure as he led them to where the vertical was parked.

---

The drive to the target was surprisingly uneventful. With the last days of the sun quickly fading, everybody was safely inside. The already sparse traffic thinned to nonexistence as they passed from the busy urban area into the industrial sector. Their target was hiding out in an steelworks warehouse just on the inside of Alice's territory.

The warehouse was a squat building with a rounded roof. No windows allowed visual access near ground level, but skylights on top of the building allowed the light from the full moon in. The entire property was surrounded by a tight chain link fence topped in razor wire. A single guard sat in a booth at the front gate, his eyes on the book in front of him instead of the street until Alice and her group stopped.

Desmond gaze was directed outwards the entire ride, his body still as he watched people and cars flash by. He didn't say a word for he had nothing to say. His thoughts however were numerous and constant, rampaging through his mind like a stampede. There were some who preferred to empty their mind before a serious event, but Desmond was the opposite. He found that by letting his mind run rampant he could push out all distraction when he fought, his mind exhausted to do anything else.

The location of their stray was hardly surprising. Humans' industrial sectors were ugly and crude, much like the stray devils have now become. Desmond took the privilege of stepping out of the vehicle and opening Alice's door for her, since Alphonse had been the driver. It was hard for him not to glare at the guard. How useless he was for not keeping a more watchful eye over his employer's property. Laziness seemed to be a quality all to prevalent in humanity.

Once Alice left the vehicle, Desmond would fall in close behind. Diplomacy was certainly not his forte and when he tried, it often came out as a threat than a proposal. The citizens of Seattle were lucky to have them here to protect them from threats such as this. Everything waited on Alice and Alphonse's mark.

Alphonse stayed silent during the drive, focused on the destination and their upcoming battle. If all turned out well, the Stray would be dealt with quickly and without much surprises. The edges of his mouth twitched in a brief flash of humor. The only suprise should be the one he set up. He pulled up to the front gate and rolled down his window as the guard approached them cautiously. With barely a a thought, Alphonse settled the memory of the previous shift mentioning a representative from a major consulting firm and the student government of Reinfield college would be appraising the property for possible purchase.
