The Trees Listen...
You awaken among some other individuals. You are all in a small hut, the fireplace warms the room with it's dying embers. Each of you find yourself in a homely wooden bed layered with blankets. Other than these beds formed around the flame, there is little to the room. A small bookshelf stocked with nothing but cobwebs. The two windows are closed with their wooden shutters, though the way they shake tells of the howling winds outside. A chest of items lies at the foot of each of your beds, with your names labeled on them. A note is pinned to the ledge above the fireplace, with a framed painting of a door above it This door is cradled into the side of a craggy stone wall; encapsulated by all manners of greenery and lush plant-life.
Reading the note, it says the following:
"Welcome, dreamers.
You are in the sleep without end now; and there are only nightmares beyond these walls.
You've each been granted some mementos of home. Use them and make your way to the door above, it the only chance you have to return home.
I don't recommend you chance it without confidence in your abilities though. You may stay here, share my home with me. I won't ask for much.
You don't have much left to offer anyways :)"
...
You have the feeling you are being watched.
Welcome. I want to try something out, a little alternative fantasy.
Your characters will come from a world different than the one that this story takes place in. Whether it's our earth or some other world doesn't actually matter too much. As long as your character doesn't start with any magic or fantastical abilities then it's fair game.
As stated above they will all wake up in a small wooden cottage, with nothing but a strange note and some random items from their life beforehand to guide them. The image of a door, and a hazy map in their heads guiding them in the same direction.
Gameplay
Game-play will be much like most other RP's around here. We will try and stick to a post order to keep things orderly and on the same page. A relatively small group is ideal and people who wish to join should be understanding of eachothers schedules. Combat will work to this post order as a turn-based game might have turn orders. Each character will have different stats decided by their class at level one. Damage is calculated by adding a relevant stat to a relevant bonus. For example adding your characters STR (strength) score to a weapons damage score.
Each character will be granted something called a memento. This is an item you find in your chest that has some significance to your character. Once arriving in this world it will begin to manifest some special abilities. These abilities can be nearly anything you can imagine, within reason. Remember that power playing isn't fun for anyone. The abilities your memento(s) might grant get stronger and more numerous as the character levels up, but must remain within their initial "theme". For example gaining the ability to fire small air blasts at level one, then later giving flight or creating wind-walls.
I mentioned each character has a class, though they will each actually have 2. The first is something more basic like a fighter, ranger etc. While the second is completely unique to your character, and made by you. This could mean you play as a Mage/Elementalist; should you want to use the elements in particular. I would suggest your memento(s) somehow connect with this class, as they are both supposed to be based on your character and who they are.
Rules
We're all rational people here. The rules are as expected. No fighting in the threads, if you have a disagreement with another player keep it out of the game.
All other general rules apply that apply across RpG. Essentially if you don't think you should do it, then don't.
To keep things moving we may insist upon a time limit for posting. Nothing like "post in the next day or you're out" but more along the lines of "wait for two others to post, then you can post again." We will all work together to keep on the same page and allow for those who might not be able to post as fast to play as well.
Character Creation
I went into some character elements in the game-play section but here are some more concrete ideas:
Base Classes:
There are only these three options to emphasize how much more important your second class will be. These just give a framework for your character to start off of. You start as your second class at level one as well.
Your second class grants you some further changed in your stats as well as another ability. Each memento also grants an ability. These are called abilities instead of spells on purpose. Of course a spell counts as an ability.
Abilities can be something like: "Attack twice in once turn". Or "a fireball spell that deals damage equal to INT plus 5". They can also be for more roleplay purposes, such as "Scale surface as many feet tall as DEX X 2"
A level one character cannot start with more than 5 abilities.
Your unique class grants you +10 stat points. These can be spent however you'd like within limitations. HP cannot go over 25 at level one. All other stats cannot go above 15 at level one. These points cannot grant you more abilities, only upgrade your stats.
