Izuna Sakuya

Hiroko seemed to calm the stress Izuna was creating from her worries alone. Finding that it isn't going to be one of the worst days of her life, her peripheral vision caused her to turn towards Toshinari, taking the spot of the shrine that's less likely to have spiders or dust. She stomps over, pointing at said area and cleared her throat. "I call dibs, let me clean it." She challenges, walking over hurriedly to try and convince Tokuda about giving the spot over to her. If she was going to stay in a rundown shack, she sure as hell won't be sleeping near or even on a cobweb tonight. She fears there might be a large one somewhere.

She doesn't plan on sleeping with the moonlight over her head when evening arrives. Who knows what "yokai" she sees when she blinks awake.

"Well I... forgot to bring my phone when I left today... Goddamnit..."

Mentally, Kai was a lot angrier with himself then he let on. What kind of teen leaves home without their phone? Even without reception, some music or something might've been nice! Well, maybe he could ask one of the others about it, but maybe a bit later.

Besides that though, he supposed things weren't too bad. The shrine wasn't as badly damaged inside as he'd thought it looked, and while there were a few holes in the roof, there was plenty of space to sit and not be directly beneath them. There was even a little area where the floor wasn't wood so they might be able to make a little fire! Of course, he wasn't sure if that was there originally or part of the buildings decay, but he wasn't going to question it. You had to be optimistic when you were lost, even if it's because of time space anomalies that left everyone involved completely befuddled!

"Anyway, you guys can take the stuff from my bento." He said, placing it on the floor. "I'm going to see if I can find a little bit of firewood nearby. Don't forget to leave a bit for the kami of the shrine so we don't all get our souls stolen!"

Despite his words, his tone sounded fairly optimistic as he walked out the door. Even though he was still kind of worried about that explosion before, he figured that, as long as he stayed close to the shrine, things probably wouldn't be too bad.

It wasn't until he'd been foraging for a little while though that he noticed something... Strange. Whenever he went to lift a piece of wood or something, he was, well, actually able to lift it. Now, Kaito would be the first to admit that he's not strongest guy around. In fact, over the last couple of years he'd actually have described himself as pretty weak. Here though, he was lifting some big ass pieces of wood with far less effort than a skinny little toothpick of a guy like him should've been able to!"

"Am I..." He began, his eyes wide with excitement. "Do I have superpowers?"

Ikazuchi Hiroko

Forest around the shrine - ???
Hiroko watched as Izuna seemed to accept the fact that they had to stay here and then challenged Toshinari for the position that looked like it was less likely to have any spiders crawling around. Though she highly doubted that the spiders would leave them alone just because there weren't any cobwebs around, but she guessed it gave them peace of mind at the very least. What she needed right now were calm people so that they wouldn't have much trouble. She was rather confident they'd find civilization soon enough.

She watched as Kaito offered his food again to them and then nodded in appreciation. Though, what came next worried her. Before she could argue with him about going out to get firewood alone, Kaito had already left. Sighing, she turned to the others. "I'll follow him and make sure he doesn't get hurt. You two stay here alright? And you can eat first." She gestured towards the bento box that Kaito had put down earlier before turning and then hurrying to follow the boy.

Hiroko figured that Kaito wouldn't venture out too far so she wasn't exactly hurrying out to find him. After a few minutes, she found him with a load of possible firewood. He seems to be in a sort of state of wonder. "Hey, Kaito." She called out. "Looks like you have enough for a night's rest. Need any help with that?" She then tapped her coat and remembered that she did have a lighter. "I have a lighter here so it wouldn't be too hard to start a fire."

Toshinari had been making his way to one of the corners of the room with the intention of resting there for the night, but it seemed that he wasn't the only one with that idea. Izuna had hastily moved to him, calling dibs and demanding the spot from him — no doubt to avoid the eight-legged horrors that were probably hanging around and inside the temple.

"Oi, you can't just call dibs when I'm already near the spot, y'know?" He replied, scratching the back of his head as he did so.

"Besides, it's not like I want to sleep near any spiders either."

In the midst of their confrontation, Kaito had left to collect firewood — leaving his bento behind for the rest to eat at their leisure. Hiroko had followed suit, giving permission to the remaining two to start eating Kaito's bento.

Of course, this meant that Toshinari was left alone with Izuna to compete for the spiderless corner.

"You eat first, Izuna." Toshinari offered politely, gesturing toward Kaito's bento in the centre of the room. It was a trick. Were she to go to the bento, he would take the spot. If not, then he would just have to try something else.

Hell, even as he offered, the boy had been slowly but surely inching toward the spot anyway.

Izuna Sakuya

Izuna took only a few seconds to look at the Bento that Kaito so kindly left behind but she quickly stare back and glared, noticing him inching little by little to the cobweb-free spot. She points accusingly as she steps back slowly to reach for the bento, only for her hand to reach nothing but its edges and the air around it.

"What about you? Aren't you going to get hungry?" She inquired, still focusing on his not-so-subtle movements to the spot, not like she's doing any better trying to reach for the box while still locking eyes on it. Her stomach was rumbling though so she had to move at some point, cute groans coming from her mouth as she started to think about the food. She wanted to wait for Tokuda's answer to her question. Perhaps if he were hungry, she would cut a deal with him in a way that she can earn the spot.

Oh so she hoped...

"Oh, Rocko…" Kaito said, the tone in his voice betraying his surprise and excitement. "I… I actually don't think I do…"

And then he lifted the stack of firewood over his shoulder with surprising ease, which was weird considering there were some big pieces of wood in there, and turned to Hiroko, finally revealing his wide-eyed, shocked expression.

"I… think I might have superpowers…"

And it was only then, when he said it to another person, that he realised it wasn't just his brain playing tricks on him. He, even being the skinny little toothpick of a human being that he was, was able to lift enough wood to put him on par with a heavyweight wrestler.

"I think I might have superpowers!" He shouted again, this time with a steadily growing grin. "How am I doing this?! I don't have the muscles for this!"

He blinked for a moment, coming back to his senses when he realised she hadn't finished talking.

"Oh, right, yeah. The lighter probably will come in handy. Thanks Rocko! But now… Now I'm intrigued… How did I get super strong? Was it to do with whatever brought us here? And the real kicker, is is possible that the rest of you might have powers as well?"

And then he started walking back to the shrine, still in a state of surprise over how easily he could carry all that wood.

"Anyway, yeah." He said. "I'll be fine with all this wood. We should probably get back inside though. Don't wanna get stuck outside once the sun is down, after all!"

Ikazuchi Hiroko

Forest around the shrine - ???
Rocko? Hiroko had little time to process the nickname given to her before Kaito started to tell her that he might have superpowers. Normally, this would be the time Hiroko started scolding him for jumping to conclusions too quickly. However, one look at the man's less than impressive body told her that he actually wouldn't be able to lift all those without breaking a sweat.

And yet there he was, carrying them without breaking a sweat.

"Superpowers or no, let's just get back." Hiroko replied with a dismissive tone. As much as she wanted to believe something completely impossible, the logical part of her mind just wasn't agreeing wiht it. And if it doesn't agree, then Hiroko doesn't follow with it.

She followed him back to the shrine. At least it didn't look like anything was going to attack them. Which was good, since she had nothing to protect herself with aside from a small lighter. She'd be way more at ease if she had a knife... or a bow or something.

"And Kaito..." She called out before stopping herself. Should she continue to entertain the idea of superpowers since that's what was making Kaito happy and energized? It was ideal, but continuing to entertain it if it wasn't true might not be good for them in the future. But still. "If we did get superpowers, then at least we have some way to survive this forest."

It had seemed that Toshinari's plan had worked for a moment; Izuna had turned around to look at the bento while Toshinari was inexorably shuffling to his claimed spot. However, his hopes were quickly dashed when she suddenly turned around. He froze suddenly as she turned, but Izuna had already caught him moving, throwing him an accusatory glare and pointing a finger at him. He chuckled nervously.

Shit! She caught me! Toshinari chided himself in his mind.

Had he not been so careless, he might've been able to sneak into the spot with her being none the wiser, but that was out of the question now. The boy — busy contemplating what went wrong — he almost didn't register Izuna's words, asking him if he was hungry.

"No, no, no," Toshinari said, shaking his head.

Truth be told, he was a bit hungry, but to yield to hunger would be to lose the spot that he had been working so hard to take.

"I can just eat when we get to a city. You go ahead."

The boy patiently waited for Izuna's next move.

Izuna Sakuya

Izuna's eyebrow twitched at such persistence, giving up food for what is the only clean spot in this entire shack? "Damn it.". Her tummy growled for the bento in front of her, with a soft sigh she opened up the bento box and sat on it, clapping her hands twice before chanting a prayer and telling aloud: "Thank you for the food." The contents don't mean much to her but it was pretty decent to look at, with a pair of chopsticks already in she began to dig in, the mysterious mix of flavors entering her mouth aren't unlike other people's cooking... still, it's a decent meal and her belly would full by the end of it.

She doesn't seem to note her rival, Tokuda, already entrenching himself into the spot as she continued to gobble down the food down her throat. For a girl she doesn't seem to have the manners of one, burping constantly and not paying any mind to manners. "I wonder when those two are coming back from their evening walk?" She thinks out loud.

"Yeah!" Kai said happily as he continued towards the shrine. "I can start helping people properly again, instead of just getting beaten up all the time! It's gonna be great!"

When he reached the shrine though, he paused for a moment, trying to figure out how to open the door without dropping his giant bundle of wood. Reluctantly, he took one hand away from the pile, immediately pausing when he felt the pile shudder. However, after about a minute of very slow, careful movements, he finally managed to open it without dropping anything too big.

"Hey guys! I have superpowers!" He shouted gleefully as he walked inside. "Look at this pile! And the weedy little beanpole body! This shouldn't be physically possible!"

And then he placed all the wood beside him and sat down right in the spider free area that, unknown to him, had been the subject of a great battle of wits.

Ikazuchi Hiroko

Shrine - ???
Kaito's optimism brought a smile to Hiroko's face. Help others huh? What he did say about always getting beaten up did worry Hiroko, but then again, bullying was frequent. She could guess that this guy tried to stand up to face thugs or something. Ah the heroic souls of others. Hiroko just can't fathom how someone that knows he is physically weak could even think of standing up to others.

Shrugging to herself, she followed him back to the shrine. If he was carrying all that load, if something were to come to attack them, it certainly wouldn't spell good for them. She watched Kaito try to open up the door. Hiroko would have offered her help if Kaito didn't look so focused on doing it by hismelf. After a few agonizing seconds, Kaito managed to open it up.

Hiroko didn't seem to react to Kaito saying that he has superpowers. She grabbed some of the firewood and then placed it on the free area, also unaware of the fight between Izuna and Toshinari. Grabing her lighter and a piece of paper from her bag, she lit it up and then placed it under the formed firewood. "Admittedly, I have no idea how to make fire." She said honestly. "So if this doesn't work, you all cannot blame me."

She then sat down beside the firewood, waiting for the fire to eat the wood - undisturbed by the fact that there are some cobwebs here and there.

Tarashima Forest, Eferion
Evening

When Kaito and Hiroko returned from the forest to collect scrap wood, there seemed to be nothing to have changed. Sakuya and Toshinari had stayed put, sorting out the issue with the bento, though it was clear that most of the group would have to endure the lack of a proper dinner for the night. That is, unless they wanted to scavenge the woods in hopes they didn’t end up with a handful of poison berries and rotten apples.

A strong fire wasn’t likely from the materials gathered, but at the very least the embers caused by the loose paper and wood would give them a degree of warmth, though it wasn’t a particularly cold night, so that was probably luck on their part. The night sky stood above, peering through the single hole in the roof of the shrine, though for anyone who was adept in astronomy would find themselves most confused. None of the stars matched up into any sign whatsoever. A curious thing. The forest was quiet and despite the webs that hung above some of the corners of the shrine, there didn’t seem to be any spiders lingering that they could see. Then again, if they noticed the native species of spider, they probably would’ve left the shrine and took their chances at night in the forest, trying not to stumble over their own feet.
