I just had an odd idea, since medieval fantasy is done quite frequently here, (not that there's anything wrong with that. I love medieval fantasy.) What if we did an idea featuring an American Wild West theme, but with magic? Something centered around the time of American Manifest Destiny and territorial expansion, with themes of mysticism and perhaps some fantasy themes in there? Now cowboys and dragons maybe far fetched, (although riding a dragon while firing a gattling gun sounds pretty badass), but what if we tried to blend history with fantasy?

You might want to take a look at Deadlands. I'm doing an RP set in it right now and it would hit a lot of those points for you.

Okay? So are you also wanting to join into this particular rp or not? I mean, if this idea is already out there I can modify the plot to be it's own thing.

Put me down as a maybe. Just figured I'd mention Deadlands for inspiration basically. It's a supernatural western setting so I figured it can serve as a good basis for you to build on.

Alright, but I'll look into it. Also honestly, I had no idea this roleplay was already a thing. Sorry if our wires crossed here accidentally. I'm just trying to come up with some new ideas to toss around.

Cool! I'll think of the plot in the meantime. I'm considering it taking place in Texas as it's the most easiest setting for me to think of.

I'm heading out on vacation for three weeks but if this is still here when I get back I'll be pleased.

I do have two suggestions though:

1.) Establish the limitations of magic before characters start being created. Make certain that those limitations insure pistols and lever action rifles are still relevant.

2.) Don't bother with Texas. Have fun with altering the existing stereotypes to fit your vision. For example, maybe the orcs were defeated by the combined races and now are subjugated and work corn fields and sugar plantations. Maybe various factions are pro or anti-emancipation. It's up to you. Have fun with it!

I think it will, I mean I may make this RP a long term one once it gets started. I need to think of a big plot though, but I'm going to see if I can whip this one up really good.

1).Right, I may make you able to enchant a gun, but maybe this is hard to do for some reason. Still, you need to know how to use a gun to fire one with specialized ammunition anyways. I may make it where you can only enchant a gun to alter it's properties, but not making it hit every time or make ammunition pop out of thin air. Perhaps something elemental with guns, or you have to use certain inscribed weaponry for certain types of ammunition. Magic will be an "old art" or something that probably has always been used in one form or another, but the gun is high tech and basically an equalizer. You can kill a mage or whoever with a gun easily, they just can do a lot if they know how to use them and know how to use magic themselves.

2). I could do that, maybe Orcs were semi reasonable and basically what would be "African American" in this universe. Like, the orcs could have quite a lot of legitimacy and not be "WAAAAAGH!" Warhammer like. (Like Skryim basically), heck we could say the Confederates were half vampires, or even dark elves. Native Americans could be something like wood elves as well. I was going to go with "humans with magic fighting other humans with magic", but actually having fantasy races be a part of a historical event would be interesting. (If people actually like that idea.) It could be in parts of the south, new Mexico, or maybe even in Nevada as well. Still, it would defiantly be the cowboy era going strong and the United States is going at it with Manifest Destiny.

(By the way to anyone who may get offended, I'm from Georgia so "vampire Confederates" or "Dark Elf Confederates" would be a funny take on the Civil War. Of course, this is all in the brainstorming phase currently.) )

This sounds amazing! I recently just finished Red Dead Redemption for the first time (I know I’m behind on the times ^_^’) and I need my Wild West fix. Consider me interested!

Yo, this sounds legit! I'd be down! Maybe:

1.) A Sheriff's badge is--upon closer inspection--etched with runes that protect him or her from basic, low-level spells (scrying, fire, and maybe offers bullet deflection?)

2.) Maybe there are specific rangers for specific situations? Magic, monsters and so forth.

Either way, I'd be down for something like this! I have an enchanted cowboy sitting around somewhere I'd like to give a whirl if I'm chosen!

Okay, the starter is up, but it's also being worked on as ideas come along and I try to balance everything. I would love for support and some suggestions in this, however you can also go ahead and write your starter CS's in the OOC section as well. The roleplay shall be called Legends of the West.

1) That's a good idea, but perhaps magic is able to be practiced under permit? I would deduce that not all magic is used for fighting. Since the invention of the steam locomotive it maybe useful in steam technology or to transmit morse code. It could also be used for practical applications as well on the homefront. I'm thinking that magic can complement technologies that were invented around this time period.

2) Perhaps, plus there will be racial advantages and disadvantages as well.

1.) So maybe a little bit of "magepunk"? For example, locomotives would be powered by coal and a guy in the back is superheating it with fire spells. Permits should be treated like driver's licenses. If you get busted for casting without a license you'll need to pay a fine, or if your job requires you to use magic you need to have a permit and have been pracisting for x-number of years.

2.) Bingo! So if you're a bail bondsman you'd be specially trained in say scrying and binding.

1) Exactly! No reason there cannot be practical or peaceful application of magic in this. I mean this is in a established country with most people not trying to do anything malevolent. More than likely magic would be under the law such as guns would. Heck, we even could make a unique amendment to the constitution in this universe that dictates the rights of a magician or the magically inclined. There's several ways to go about this.

2) Yep, officers could even use spells to negate magic or perhaps hold people in arrest without harming them. Maybe even tying up their shadows so the person being arrested cannot move or something. The law would have magic and know how to deal with as well, makes sense like how officers would have guns in real life.

Okay, so maybe

1.) If you're born with the gift to use magic (I assume not everyone can use magic) you're taken to either a special school or there are "special education" courses spellcasters alongside their normal courses.

2.) I could see the change to the Constitution happening after a 2nd Witch Trials when we realised that magic users were on our side and not against us.

3.) I dig the shadow entrapment! Either tangling someone up in their shadows or taking control of an opposer's shadow by connecting yours to their's (akin to a Shadow Possession Jutsu in the Naruto franchise). One could go even further by manipulating water, vines, earth etc to entrap someone.

4.) Enchanted guns or bullets? Enchanted handcuffs? Maybe even prisons that negate magic!

1.) Perhaps, I mean I would hate to make magic sort of like a "Jedi only" thing, however there could be more people sensitive to magic. Then again you can just make your character already sensitive to it as long as everyone doesn't go overboard.

2) Bingo! It would be an interesting development. Maybe there would even be witches and mages in the US government who lobby for this as well. It would be an interesting twist to have magic gone through a legal process and then state sanctioned and regulated as is anything else.

3) I think the justus idea would work here, but let's not make it harmful unless you're evil and you know how to do that to basically kill someone. However, it may take concentration and usually isn't the best tactic when you're in a sporadic gunfight.
