"Of all the cyber cafes in this city, she had to walk into mine."

YEAR: 2005

PLACE: Earthverse-5U93R

Steam rises from city streets and you can clearly see where the polluting smog joins with dismal clouds. The smell of mildew and mould hangs in the air. You can't remember a day where EnviroControl didn't make it rain at some point. Crime is rampant and you're as likely to be shot by a dirty cop as you are of being mugged by some junkie.

Welcome to life, normie.

But now something new is here. You've seen it, playing in looped newsreels on the HiDef's. There's peeps doing what peeps aren't supposed to. Flying. Shooting lasers out of their eyes. Creating things out of thin air. The NewsCyc is having a field day with the speculation. Are these the GenMods GreenCorp. is rumoured to have been making? Has an AI been born? Does that mean the Sokovia Mandates have failed?

The HiNet is getting spammed with normie footage while the corpies like Luthor and Anthonies insist that it's a publicity stunt by bored pranksters and that the PolitiCrops have nothing to do with it. But it's happening more and more. Pix are appearing of a one-man tank in a suit or armor, dressed like a bat and taking out crims. Of normies holding lightning in their bare hands. The LoNet's full of jackers selling what they claim to be fragments from battles or even the blood of what peeps are starting to call nextmen.

A drug's hit the streets of New Gotham called Godsblood and word is the New Gotham branch of Police Corp. is on the warpath. They can't stop it and worse, they aren't getting their cut. Peeps are saying it drives users nuts, leaving them a cackling mess and there's even speak of it being able to affect the Net.

Shit's getting pretty fragged out there, chum. Better keep those optics peeled.

Welcome to the mash-up.

Remember Amalgam comics? Yeah you do. And if you didn't, you're in for a dumb treat.

The premise of this RP is simple: Take Marvel, take DC, do a dumb fusion dance and see what results from this ungodly union. But now it has a cyberpunk setting. Why? Shut up.

In the far-off future of 2005, tech's advanced but society's gone to crap. The megacorps run the world, politicians and CEO's are usually the same thing and the ones that aren't are backed by corporate sponsors. Congress has a weekly downloadable podcast, charging two Reward Bucks per episode, digital piracy is comporable to terrorism and somewhere along the way the world go stuck between the 50's and 80's while technology marched ever onwards.
Cybernetic prosthetics have Bluetooth integration for your smartphone, but only if you're rich enough to afford the costs of a For-Profit Healthcare System(TM). Sexism and racism barely exist, but only because it's been replaced by a level of classism that took notes from the Racial Segregation handbook. Libraries have a subscription model and buying a VR headset from Kuba Tech when you own a rig made by Ahura means paying two separate Customer Disloyalty fees.

The common folk, the working class normies, the beat cops, anyone lower than one of the up-mids on the social ladder, are jaded, cynical, overworked and nihilistic. You're one of those people. And you just got powers.

Before anything else, this is an OC-only RP. Don't copy a pre-existing Amalgam character, make your own. That being said, if you want to make a Spider-Man/Superboy character, that's fine. Just as long as they're actually different from their Amalgam counterpart.

Also, Superman and Batman are off the table. Because no matter how you spin it, those guys are busted as all hell before you even fuse them with anyone from Marvel. Batman/Wolverine Dark Claw? Superman/Captain America Super-Soldier? No thanks. Supes & Bats are exclusively GM controlled NPC's. BUT Batgirl, Supergirl and all the Robin's are free game. Want to make a Red Hood/Punisher? Cool. Supergirl/Gamora? Go for it. Batgirl/Black Widow? Your call.

Keep in mind though, optimistic characters are welcome. You don't all need to be gritty-grimdark and brooding in every possible corner you can find, chainsmoking with a bottle of whiskey next to you. After all, a Starfire character wouldn't have grown up on this planet, so she has no reason to be as downtrodden as everyone else. Just keep in mind that this world will actively try to beat that optimism out of you.

Taken NPC's.

RULES:

  • 1) The GM is the CEO with the majority share. What they so, goes. Y'all know the drill.
  • 2) Co-GM's can overrule and retcon if they have the majority vote from other Co-GM's. But if the GM allows it, it's allowed. GM's world, GM's idea, GM's final say.
  • 3) No busted, OP character BS. You should know what this means. And no Mary-Sue's, Gary-Stu's or over-the-top edgelords, either.
  • 4) Post at least once a week. PM the GM or Co-GM's if you can't due to circumstance.
  • 5) OC characters only.
  • 6) Two-character fusion limit. No Dr. Strangefate's (Dr. Strange/Dr. Fate/Professor X).
  • 7) You CAN create and play as a villain.
  • 8) No sexual content, as per sitewide rules. Take it to the PM's. Have the public post fade to black or something,
  • 9) This includes sexual crimes committed by villains or part of a backstory. Don't go into explicit detail and if (for some reason) you want to go into explicit detail, do it in the PM's, but only if the other party agrees to it. Otherwise, as per Rule 1, the GM reserves the right to say "Nah, that didn't happen."
  • 10) This is an adult, 18+ RP. But if you can't tell a story without extreme sexual or physical violence, then you never actually had a story to tell. Personality, motivations, background and character development all come before "So he pulled out the guys' innards, hit a woman and kicked a dog because he is a bad guy. Also, he is in the mafia."

I'll take a subscription for 3 reward bucks per month, please! (count me in!)

working on what my mashup is gonna be.......

Nightcrawler/Grifter. Teleportation, extremely high combat senses (combining grifters combat prowess and nightcrawlers physiologically advanced agility), Psychic abilities (toning down/combining the telekenesis and telepathy from grifter and the spacial awareness of Nightcrawler), abnormal physical appearance, and finally a moderate regeneration factor.

I've got two ideas, and I probably need help ironing them out and deciding which one to go with:

1. Speed Demon: The Flash/Ghost Rider. The idea here is to have a Speedster-esque Antihero who got his speed because of a deal with the Devil. He'd have Flash's speed (though probably nerfed a bit, and I don't really think the Speed Force will ever come up either due to the more demonic origins of the powers) and some of Ghost Rider's stuff (Flaming skull for instance, leaving fire trails in his wake instead of a lightning aura, the Penance Stare, etc). I think where I'm stuck is Villains. I know the Flash's rogues fairly well, but not Ghost Rider's. Plus I'd have no idea how or who to fuse them with.

2. Spider-Bolt: Spider-Man/Static Shock. Having the Spider-side of him be based on Miles Morales makes the most sense to me (though truth be told I'm far more familiar with Peter Parker). I think Miles even had an electric web thing too, even. I know both characters decently well, including a lot of their Rogues Galleries. The only issue I see with this is Static. I know he's technically part of DC but I don't know if that's enough to justify him being in the Amalgam Universe.

@Double oooohhh, I like your speed demon idea. I was tempted to use ghost Rider, but decided against it.

I don't think you have to create a villian to counter your hero. Just that you -could- make a villian if you wanted to. At least that is my understanding of it.

@Mr Rage That looks cool. I'm gearing up to expand Super Symbiote and Iron Bat with CS' so you'll be able to get an idea of Bruce Anthonies' kill policy.

@Double Spider-Bolt/Static-Spider sounds pretty cool, I could see the character being bitten by a spider that had been exposed to Quantum Vapor or something where he develops spider powers but also electromagnetic ones that allow him to have an electrical "sting" and an electromagnetic sixth sense that acts as his spider sense, as well as other powers that would be partly negated by water.

I will admit I'm leaning a bit more toward Spider-Bolt than Speed Demon. I like speedsters but with how often they get used in the CW shows (Really Flash? 3 seasons in a row?) I think I'm in more of a mood veer away from that. Plus it's been forever since I've seen Static be used for much of anything so it would be nice to explore that mythos again. The Big Bang, Quantum Vapor, and even Static's rogues such as Hotstreak and Ebon. Sounds like a fun time.

So here's my idea for an Origin Story. Spider-Bolt, we'll call him Miles for now until I give him a better name, got his powers the way you suggested. Bitten by a spider that was previously exposed to Quantum Vapor. As for where the Vapor came from, maybe it came from GreenCorp? Oscorp was always the source of the enhanced spider in the original story so maybe Quantum Vapor was some kind of GreenCorp Experiment? Probably a bit of animal testing (again, similar to the original Oscorp) that led to the spider that bit Miles. Drawing inspiration from the actual character, I'm gonna say Miles had an uncle (probably an Amalgamized Aaron Davis) that possibly used to work for GreenCorp but became disgruntled after he was fired. To get revenge, and perhaps to pay off some debts to this unverse's version of Kingpin, he managed to steal a shipment of Quantum Vapor from Oscorp. Miles has already become Spider-Bolt by this point, but has only dealt with mundane muggins and gang violence. This is his first major crime to stop, and he hesitates because it's his uncle. Well during the struggle, the tanks explode producing the famous "Big Bang" that then leads to Bang Babies popping up for Miles to fight. This version of the story takes cues from Spider-Man and has Miles be partially responsible for the Big Bang itself, and by extension the various villains that come about from it (because it wouldn't be Spider-Man if he wasn't at least partially responsible for creating his own enemies).
