Mass Effect Andromeda.

If you look past the rather overblown animation issues, it was definitely a very solid game. The gameplay was actually the best in the series in my opinion. The story was pretty okay, I guess, but I felt like there were a lot of holes that would have been closed if it wasn't for EA pulling the plug on it so soon.

The Finale had a lot of ME1 callbacks and was super fun, too.

What games defined your childhood and why? What aspects of them interested you and how have they shaped your taste? And how do they hold up for you?

Rollercoaster Tycoon and Sim City 4. Those were the first video games that I ever played at a young age. It really got me interested on strategy games for a young age. I still play the original and (mainly) modded version of both games. Especially OpenRCT 2. Good mod that combines Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe and Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 together. Better than Rollercoaster Tycoon World. It is sad how EA and Atari treated those games. SimCity failed terribly and caused Maxis to shut down. While RCT: World also failed and killing the franchise for good; however, they did release Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic for the phone. I wished that both of my childhood games had a happy ending. But, I liked how they died so early before microtransactions became a thing. Otherwise, we might of ended up a Battlefront 20-style microtransaction in Rollercoaster Tycoon.

Other games that (sort of) defined my childhood were: Tycoon City: New York, Zoo Tycoon, Mass Effect, Mall of America Tycoon, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

What is a game you know is bad or is widely considered to be bad but you enjoy/love anyway?

Homefront: The Revolution. I know that the game was broken (and kinda of still is) at launch, it's a generic first person shooter with the main character having no voice (until the DLCs), and other stuff that people hate about this game. But, honestly I loved the story. And shit gets serious towards the middle of the game. I loved the whole story of the game with a few minor issues that I had. There's also Homefront, the first game, but I like and hate it for the same reasons as Revolution.

Then, there's the Walking Dead: A New Frontier. The third season of Telltale's The Walking Dead. And I liked the season even know it was too fast, some of the characters weren't good, and we barely saw/played Clementine. I liked Javi and Kate. Also, David but he was like Kenny from Season 2. They became insane because of the apocalypse. I also liked the relationship between Kate and Javi even if she forced it out at Episode Five. I have to say that the season was a fresh point of view. And I hope that either we see Kate and Javi or they get mentioned again in the final season.

And there is Mafia 3. Nothing like Mafia 2. It was broken as hell on release. But, again, I really liked the story. Especially the documentary style cutscenes. It was something that I haven't seen before in a video game and I wish more games did something like that. Lincoln Clay was a good character along with some members of the Marcano Crime Family and Vito. I also really liked one of the DLCs where afterwards you get to rebuild and redesign your "father's" bar. The whole game just falls into the open world symptom, where it feels barren with collectables to collect here and there. I think there are other games that I could mention if I look into it but I am busy with school work at the moment.

EDIT:

Mass Effect Andromeda.

The story was pretty okay, I guess, but I felt like there were a lot of holes that would have been closed if it wasn't for EA pulling the plug on it so soon.

I really wanted to like Mass Effect Andromeda. I did. Even pre-ordered the game and stayed outside of Gamestop for a hour to be the first person to get the game. But, after playing it over and over, EA honestly killed Mass Effect for me. The good thing about it was the gameplay but the story was a lackluster. If EA wants to keep Bioware alive, they should be focused on releasing a remastered Mass Effect trilogy to win back fans of the classic. But, they will most likely leave it to die while focusing on Anthem and the next Dragon Age game (if Anthem does well).

@Inkarnate. I just realized something while looking at the photos. Was the current game photo played on a PS4 Pro? Because it could be that it was played on a regular PS4?

Also, Insomniac's Community Director James Stevenson says that there wasn't a downgrade. But, we will have to wait until a comparison video comes out to see if there was a downgrade or not. Still going to play it regardless.

I found this edit of the Spider-Man suit from the classic film and I am crying right now:

as long as the game is fantastic, i couldn't care less about what they do with the graphics. i trust the developer to give us the intended experience

Bullshots are kind of a staple at this point. Watch_Dogs was notorious for it but when demoing games it's rarely using final code as it's way easier to make a controlled demo look and run a certain way compared to making a playable product for wide release.

The thing is my doubt is really set in with Insomniac due to how many blunders they've had (starting with FUSE). I want to trust them, but they've not exactly given me reason to.

I really wish Spider-Man and Dragon Quest 11 didn't come out in the same week because the latter has completely usurped the former in terms of hype and excitement to me. Like I'm sure Spider-Man is a totally fine game, but Dragon Quest games have a way of feeling me with an indescribable joy as soon as I hear that iconic overture and that's not something a Spider can hope to match.

i'm genuinely looking forward to NBA 2k19. as much of a disaster 2k18 was, 2k19 looks to be a step in the right direction with how less grindy the game is and how much better the story is. they got rid of literally one of the worst video game characters in history

i mean just look at her.

i'm really hoping the folks making the game don't shit the bed this time, because my god was 2k18 a disaster. is it a day one buy for me? i don't know. what i do know is that if 2k was smart, then they'd have plenty of incentive to make 2k19 not a shitshow considering EA is coming in hot with the comeback of NBA live

Powered through a lot of PS4's Spider-Man and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot. I have some issues with it, but I'm real happy to see Insomniac got it right this time.

What were your issues with the game?

What were your issues with the game?

A lot of them were minor – but also apparently the same issues some commentators had. The third act went by too fast, some of the “busywork” side-missions were pretty tedious, and some of my favorite characters weren't included in the plot. I also found the difficult pretty forgiving and thought the option to skip QTEs and puzzles was a laughable choice.

I'd probably rate the game pretty high all things considered, though.

I finished Spider-Man (and I mean literally platinum trophy finish) and like it's a generous 3/5 in my opinion. There are a lot of issues with that game structurally and narratively but the attention to detail with things like the sound design are genuinely impressive. It both doesn't do anything that hasn't been done before in other games of its type and even in other Spider-Man games and does the best at controlling Spider-Man. That it does these things well doesn't exactly change the fact that there's only so many times you can see the same car stopping animation or the same exact 'street crime' so many times before it gets dull.

And the game gets to that point long before the crimes stop happening.

Also the game thought it could hide a trailer for the DLC in the game without people noticing but they were wrong.
