Since the first days of the world, when the Greatfather and his six mighty sons walked the land, Magnar has been the homeland of the Born: Children in their tongue. A dozen centuries have passed since those heady days, and in that time the children of the Greatfather's sons have tamed the rugged lands of Magnar and carved out six great realms, one for each of the Greatfather's sons. The hosts of the vengeful dead have been laid to rest forever and the trolls have been banished to their lairs deep in the mountains. Invaders too have hoped to despoil the birthright of the Born; the Thalasan Empire, bringing horses and magicks, nearly succeeded in destroying the great realms centuries ago, but they too were ultimately repulsed. Every enemy of the Born, unbowed children of the Greatfather, have been laid low. Magnar has always been a birthright for all men, though not one easily-earned. Now, winter snow thaws in the north. The rivers run swift, impregnated and gorged by the melt and rains of springtime. Leaves bud anew as the bone-chilling winds of winter give way to the wet snap of spring, and the world-snake uncoils from its skin, anew for the fresh year ahead.

Hey, Iā€™m interested in creating an application. I was thinking of creating a pious, warrior culture type realm, situated in the center of the map. With the focus being on a group of highborn knight-like priests whose purpose is upholding honor, tradition, and faith. So my question is how flexible and creative can I be with the religious aspects of their culture? As Born should they follow a certain, specific faith, or can I make up my own, with only a few ties to the greatfather? They would be associated with Honor, Piouty, and Badgers.

@Dusty I dig it. I'm gonna write a flowery description for the Bornic faith later, one that actually sounds like an old scandinavian is telling it, but for now here are some basic rules. I trust you guys to take liberties with the rest, which I will slowly add to the OOC, which is still a work in progress.

ā€¢ The world (Earth) is on the back of a giant snake that is constantly eating its tail. This is why the Earth spins -- the latter concept was introduced by Thalasan invaders, which has been digested by the Bornic as something that bolsters their pre-existing faith. Every winter, the world snake dies, and every spring, it sheds its old skin and is reborn.

ā€¢ The Greatfather may or may not watch over us, but the valkyries definitely do. Despite cursing them with mortality for the sins of their father, the Born are still sons of valkyries, and so the valkyries pick only the most honorable to join them in the heavens. The heavens are a lot like Valhalla. but they're just called the heavens, because there are different levels depending on how Good you were.

ā€¢ The six sons of the Greatfather are a pantheon with many stories that serve to better explain natural phenomena. Skeletons do not decompose, for instance, because the Born are still technically part immortal.

ā€¢ Thalasans were Not-Catholic, so I'm hesitant to allow Viking Crusaders. The Bornic value honor that is strong, whereas I think the Thalasans would have a more Anglican reserved strength that values piousness, celibacy, restraint, etc. This isn't to say that the Bornic are barbarians, but I think their ideals would be more focused on when it is and isn't appropriate to kill than any chivalric code.

Didn't get to the sheet last night like I wanted. I'm thinking of taking Eshkag's progeny, seated at Narskur at the confluence of the rivers right in the center of Magnar, just FYI
